Lifting like girls

Just finished my WOD. My legs were screaming from the last few days of Cathe Live. So I decided to do an upper body workout. Silly me, I should have known that Blast in the workout name, was short for Cathe Blast. (we all know what that means) But anyway, it was Upper Body Blast, from July 2016. Great upper body workout, but those blasted blasts. My legs are screaming. Another goodie from Cathe Live! Sending great week-end vibes to everyone!

Tom, that's a nasty visual. Scrubbing blood from under your nails? The fact that you went back the next day, and did it again. (I thought keeping my appointment with the gynecologist, was bravery)
 
Confession...I punted yesterday, and it was ARM DAY, not leg day! Back was sore, shoulder was sore and flu shot was sore, no excuse but decided I would NOT be doing deads on Sat so I might as well rest up and have a more productive arm day..and so I did! I did 4 supersetted tri sets. skc 3x12/ dumbbell curl 3x12, tri pushdowns 3x10/ hammer curls 3x10/crossbody tri's 3x12/ szott curls 3x8(spelling?) and kickbacks 3x15/ ez bar curls 3x10 and did 1x8 conc curls. For abs I finished with 1x50 crunches and 1x30 cable crunches. Sorry about yesterdays "barf inducing" commentary, but there was not as much stuff out there in those days. Now it would be plain stupid to do surgery or any dental treatment without gloves. Probably 1/3 or more of the patients I see daily are hep c positive. I have stuck myself 3 times with instruments on hep c positive patients, so I get screened on a regular basis...so far, so good! I try to be really careful, but as many as we see and the high incidence of bloodborne pathogens, it can be a little daunting! Enough blood talk...have a terrific weekend my friends!

Karen, uh-huh, that Live is DEADLY! No breaks for your heart rate and, um, yeah Cathe blasts are guaranteed to burn your legs out. When I did that one I remember that I also had lower body DOMs and was thinking, "Oh, not bad, this is upper body blast so my legs will be fine!" Not so much. Fun, in that crazy-commando-way, though huh?

Tom, good thinking on making it arm day. Looks like it was a good one! Please no more blood talk, LOL!

Today I did a Live that I don't think I've done before--Step Sweat Live (3/26/15) and then I added the Upper Body ball portion from yesterday's Live. Ouchie! Good start to my weekend.

In an attempt to get as much work in this week as possible,I did chest today. We are going with my youngest son and family to the Florida Keys. I leave Wed to fly to Orlando, DW is driving so we can have her van while there, then I will drive back with her. My son's home is about 40 miles from Daytona, so they got a lot of wind and rain, but no damage. For chest I started with bench, bar first and it wasn't getting loose, went to 95# and no better, so I did 3x30 of my max contraction chest isos, then tried 95# again and it was better so I moved up. All sets were close grip to reduce shoulder pain, and I did sets of 5 at 115, 135, 155 then a short triple at 175, then 3x8 at 155 and 3x10 at 135 and finished with 2x30 chest isos. I really felt this w/o.probably because I haven't been able to do much benching, but it felt good to do some sets. Burning out with these isos seems really effective...gotta remember that. I don't think I will get the chance to lift much for the week, but it may be for the best, this antique bod may need the rest!! Enjoy Sunday lifters!
 
I am happy to report a good case of chest DOMS! YAY. Been awhile. Today was back day, chins 4x8, pullovers 3x8, pulldowns 4x10 and dumbbell rows 3x8, finishing with 3x8 cable crunches (upped the weight a lot here and had trouble staying down) and 1x50 crunches. I used the heaviest dumbbells I had for rows and upped the weight 5# each for pullovers. Hope everyone had a great weekend...snap out of it, its MONDAY!
 
Tom, great work. DOMS are a badge of honor! Safe travels this week, glad your son's home was not too damaged in those horrible storms.

Lib, cool, you're still going for it! You're probably burning out on your STS sets earlier because you're killing it on the push ups. Those really take it out of you!

Today I did another everything plus the kitchen sink Live, Cardio & Weights Live (5/29/14). It's the fourth Live, I think, so the camera work isn't as great but the workout is super fun. I've done this one multiple times. Good butt kicking for a Monday.

Today I hit shoulders and a light, short leg w/o. For shoulders, 5 sets light strict press, 3 sets sidelat, 3 sets rear delts, 3 sets barbell front raise, 3 sets Arnold press (new for me) 3 sets dumbbell shrugs. For legs I did 1 long set gob squats, 1 leg deadlifts, and single leg calf raises. Nothing heavy today (except shrugs) but good work was had! Have a great one all!
 
Karen, your bad luck with cars is apparently contagious and I caught it. My car battery just up and died. Good thing I had just met up with my DH so he could jumpstart my car! Now I get to sit and wait at the auto shop. Good times. Funny how griping about it makes me feel better!
 
I know, griping does make you feel better. You can gripe to me all day long. I feel your pain! My poor car is still sitting at the Honda dealership. They can't find parts for her. She's just too old. I feel her pain, too!
Today was my second day of metabolic stuff.
DB Walking Lunges 3 sets
Low Squats 2 sets
Ham Glute Raises 2 sets (love these, cuz they hurt so good)
Smith Machine Calf Raises 5 sets
I think it was about a 20 minute workout, it's just one exercise after the other. I may have to go up in weight, not quite feeling it the way I want.
 
Arms and airports today. Did the usual supersets, skc/dumbbell curl x 3, tri pushdown/hammer curl x 3, kickback/ ez bar curl x 3, then did a short set of decline curls as a test and a short preacher curl set, but neither was comfortable, so I did 2 sets of conc curls and 2 sets of crossbody tris. I got in 25 sets of arm stuff and it felt really good! This next 7 days maybe all rest, not sure what facilities will be at the Keys, but if not, I may try to do some bodyweight things. I think the rest may help me get healed up...hope so, but I will be "faunching at the bit" Hopefully no hurricanes blow the place away!! Have a fun filled Wed all!
 
Lisa, I know a little about the griping thing...I am King of Gripe! "My shoulder hurts, my tendonitis hurts, I'm old, I'm not flexible enough for those,I have water in my basement,my back is sore, what do ya mean it's leg day!! ....get the picture? I have taken this griping thing to an art form and don't think any of my Commando sisters can steal my thunder! BACK OFF ladies and leave the griping to ME! (but Karen, your little car "hurts my heart". Hope they get her fixed as good as new!
 
Tom, your Royal Highness of Complaining. That can be your name on our Commando Calendar! ,Hey, if you can't complain to your Commando friends who can you complain to? Keep it coming! Geez. 25 sets of arms? NOT shabby at all! Safe travels and hopefully you come back feeling 100%.

Aw, Karen, so sad about your car still being sick. Do you think that's why it got stolen. Because the parts are so hard to find? I hope there's a mechanic who can heal her! My car got fixed pretty quickly yesterday, thankfully. Cars, gotta live driving them but they sure can be a pain.

Today I went old school with Cathe Cardio & Weights DVD. I hope there is a new Live tomorrow!

Lisa, I thought my Honda had been stolen for the parts. But, turns out, it was just some kids joyriding, and beating her. Anyways here's hoping for parts.

Underhand EZ Row 3 sets
Overhand Pull-Ups 2 sets
DB Hammer Curls 4 sets
DB Side Lateral Raise 3 sets
V-UP 4 sets
