I think I'm getting FIRED...(long, sorry)

Ok ladies, I'll make this as short as possile...some of this material may be a little on the gross side, but please bear with me...

yesterday, I was having a HORRIBLE bowel day, I was running to the bathroom a lot! I'm a cashier and I need people to help me with customers as I ran to the bathroom...

however, the second time i had to go, the maintenance women WOULD NOT let me in...and ladies., i don't know if you've had this problem, but sometimes the number 2 feelings COMES OUT OF NOWHERE!

so, instead of...deficating in my underware...I decided to use the MENS bathroom (no one was in there).

So, to make the second part of this short, I got called into the office, got introuble for "abusing" the maintence lady because I was trying to push her to the side so I could use the bathroom AND now they are telling me that I had to apologize to the maintaince lady!!!!

Oh and on top of that, there might be a harrasment charge on me because I went to the mens bathroom (no one in there).

PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK! I'm so upset and scared, ugh.

Alana, calmly state your case to your supervisor. You may need to apologize to the maintenance lady regardless. I don't see where a harassment charge would be appropriate if the only ladies room was unavailable. Good luck and remember to breath. :)

Oh, you poor thing! ((hug))

Did you explain to your manager that you were sick? That makes a huge difference obviously.

Shoot, if I were in that state, I would have stayed home, so they were lucky you managed to show up to work.

i CLEARLY stated what was going on with the TOTAL EMBARRASMENT of saying it in from of THE STORE MANAGER (MALE), AD OFFICE SUPERVISOR (MALE) and AND ANOTHER SUP. (FEMAILE)...I was SO EMBARRASED. Walmart is a horrible place to work for and they don't give a rats ass about anyone....They would rather have us associate deficate in our pants then having the maintenence poeple lets us when, we we REALLY have to go. such crap.

Oh, and I do not think me apologizing to the main. lady at all. I did nothing to her, I did not "abuse her" I didn't shove her to the ground or to a wall. I'm so sorry for this rant, I havn't been this upset at my work in SUCH a long time. I'm sorry ladies :(

I think you should make it very clear that if you are fired, they will be speaking to your lawyer. It doesn't matter if you don't have a lawyer - they don't know that. Then it's time to start seriously looking for another job!

That's what I was thinking! Oh, and I've already started looking for another job. It just blows my mind how inconsiderate and how insensitive people are. It's like humans aren't humans anymore...does no one care about anybody but themselves? it's just sad. I treat people how I want to be treated, yet I still get stepped on. It's depressing.

Alana, hugs, I am so sorry you are going through this when you have done nothing wrong. :( I'm not lawyer but I think, unfortunately, unless they fire you for a "protected" issue (race, sex, religion) they can pretty much let you go for any reason - or no reason. I'm glad you are looking for another job already, I'm sure you will find something better, even if they don't fire you. Conversely, I don't think you can be accused of discrimination when there was no one in the men's bathroom! I think there needs to be a recipient of the supposed discrimination for it to exist!

It's odd that they are making such a big deal over this though! Why not just chalk it up to a misunderstanding between employees and move on??

Again, hugs. It sucks to be unhappy at work. :(

Bummer, . . . .hmmm what state do you live in and how would that be legal? Hopefully some HR people chime in on this one. I know that some employment situations are AT WILL employment, . . .but I know that here in CA employees have tons of rights. I mean I don't think that they would have approved of you pooping in your pants in front of customers. I would have probably told my boss "Look guy I've got the runs and heck when you gotta go, . . you gotta go." I'm sorry to hear this is happening to you. I'm hoping that everything will work out. Keep us posted.

I live in Reno, NV. Not only were they saying "we probably not going to hear the end of this from customers", I talked to my aunt (she used to me a manager, not at any walmart) and she said that I should be careful because the maintanence lady could file a harrassment charge on me too. I'm very freaked out, but another part of me is hoping they'll fire me because I can't stand to be around such inconsiderate, self centered people. Most of all, I'm sad to see how people are becoming...

OH! I should have mentioned this in the beginning, BUT, not even 2 months ago, the same thing happened to an elderly woman (looked to be in her 70's) and she had to go to....GET THIS....

They wouldn't let her in, and the women deficated her pants RIGHT outside the ladies bathroom. Then OFCOURSE they let her in to clean herself up! I was SO UPSET they did that to her, I told my supervisor, but OBVIOUSLY nothing got done cause I asked the sups, and they said no one complained so there was nothing they could do...BS!

What they could do is tell the cleaning lady to LET poeple in when it's an OBVIOUS emergency! Oh my gosh, I've opened up the whole can of worms, once again, I'm sorry but thank you all for letting me vent! I think I've reached my limit with these people. :(

This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard!! Not about you...the fact that they are making such a huge thing out of it!! I mean REALLY!!! Would they have preferred you go in your pants in front of customers and then had to leave work in order to go home and change???? OMG!! You were sick....she wouldn't let you in so you used the empty men's room.....what is the big deal?? I think the maintenance lady owes YOU the apology for giving you no other option but to use the men's room.

I would have quit already over them making such a big effing deal over the whole stupid thing. Really, i'd rather live on top ramen and cereal and PB sandwiches while looking for another job than to stay in a place like that one more day.

Well, I'm so sorry for your experience! How horrible!

If the fire you, I would certainly check with the EEOC about what types of grounds you can go after them for. If you are ill and need access, I wouldn't think they could deny you, then blame you for anything! I can't imagine any corp. treating anyone that way! Years ago, I worked for K-Mart and they weren't anything like that!

It make me want to never go back to Wal-Mart ever again! That is unbelievable treatment of an employee and that poor elderly woman! She must have been mortified!

I went through a bought of IBS where I would, without any warning, suddenly need to go to the bathroom. Mine was caused by excessive stress. Once I reduced my stress level and got back to working out, I was rid of the symptoms, but when it happened, man! There were times I had to just pull over into a field and find a spot to go! This was down South, so there were lots of agricultural land around (thank goodness)!

That is a terrible issue when you suddenly have to go.

Try to stay calm when they do it, but definitely let them know they'll be hearing from you! Hopefully the EEOC can help you!

Phew! I am glad that I'm not the only one who thinks this whole thing is rediculous. You ladies are awesome, thank you so much for letting me vent. Now, the worse thing (even worse than being fired) is that now I feel like I'm walking on eggshells, waiting and wondering if they're going to do anything to me or not. Gosh! What a horrible feeling. Anyway, ya'll rock! Happy workouts to all of you!!!:D

They really suck as an employer. My husband worked for them several years ago, both in a few different departments as well as a shift supervisor (something along those lines). They will nitpick at little things and I think their tactic is that when they feel you might cause them issues (real or imaginary), they will give you the crappiest job possible to make you want to quit.

I really hope you find work elsewhere.

Sugar, if they fire you for that, you might just have a wonderful lawsuit to lay on them. You could apologize to the maintenance lady, letting her know the situation. You could also tell management that you were very ill, but because of your commitment to your job and the company, you came into work anyway and did the best you could. Be honest with them, and you won't lose your job- after all, firing people is a pain in the ass (even worse than what you went through yesterday!:p). But if you do get fired, see a lawyer. I don't know the laws where you are, but I think you could have a suit for mistreatment of staff in some way or another. Chin up- we all have to poo- even upper management!

Oh nonononono they absolutely cannot fire you! My advice to you is see a doctor immediately. Get IBS or whatever in writing from her/him & give it to your supervisor. The best defense in a case like this is documenting everything. This is a CYA move & you should do it ASAP.

If they discipline you for harassment or fire you, see an attorney, you will most definitely have a case. If an at will employee is fired, there still needs to be cause (altho many employers get away w/this for citing "budgetary reasons"--however if they replace you that argument flies out the window). This is utterly ridiculous. If there was no one present in the men's room, how can they charge you w/harassment? Who were you harassing? Good grief!

If they file against you, then you file against them. Make a claim that they are putting you in a "hostile work environment" with their "bathroom practices."

I just want to add that THEY should be embarrassed, NOT you. It is so shameful and embarrassing for the company as a whole that they would ever treat employees that way!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad:

Good luck, whatever happens.

Alana, I'm so sorry you had to deal with this. Was the maintenance lady not aware of your problem? I just don't know why she would be so upset if she was. I just don't get this? Have you talked to your supervisor and voiced your concerns? That may help some. Let them know this incident did bother you and your concerned for your job. Who knows, if you don't say anything they may assume you're blowing it off as nothing and you don't care about what they decide to do. Especially since common sense seems to have eluded these people.

But yes, keep looking for something else. No need to work for idiots if you don't have to. :D

Couldn't locking someone with a medical emergency out of the bathroom be considered some form of harassment? Or something?
