Hardcore Fitness Maniacs for June 2023

Cam - I do think the key is portion conrol. And for me- trying to not emotional eat but only eat when I'm hungry. I cancelled Noom - I liked some of the initial readings and encouragement but I don't think I would keep it up even if I knew I was paying for it. I'm going to try a different free app for a while and see how it goes.

In other news I'm the new ower of a NordicTrack x9i Incline trainer. A neighbor had it out at the curb for free and I talked my husband into picking it up and bringing it home for me. I turned it on and tested it out and it seems to be running fine. The incline/decline works, the screen and graphics works, I loaded a workout video fine so now I guess I have to figure out how to get it into my basement workout room. I think I'll have to partially disassemble as it is too wide to fit down the stairs.

This morning I did Legs/back/abs from a Nourish Move Love Youtube video series. My server is down so I can't access STS 2.0 from it on my devices. I'll have to look at that tonight.

This morning I did RAW Box 4 Your Waist and had a great workout. I really like this workout, it is fun and has some good music in it. I used my 1.5# eggweights for the whole thing. Not a long workout but perfect for today, I have a lot of running around to do.

Workout was 40 min., burned 350 calories, did 2925 steps and HR was 136/167.

So I'm going to look at a Sleep Number bed, the memory foam mattress my DH and I have is getting old and I'm finding my hips are hurting when I get up in the morning. Sure sign of a mattress fail. So I've been wanting one of these mattresses for a long time and we can finally afford one. So I'm going to go check them out.

Then I'm going to my holistic doctor this afternoon because of some blood work I have had done from Feb. through June due to my knee surgery and my high blood pressure. I received the latest results last week and it looks like AC1 has jumped and my doctor wrote in all capital letters "You are PRE DIABETIC! Eat less carbs or we have meds for that." That's it, that's all she wrote. REALLY??? I live on carbs so WTF? And no questions like have you been eating a lot of sugar, what supplements are you taking. No, nothing like that. Just YOU ARE PRE DIABETIC, let's get you on some drugs. Piss off. So I'm going to talk to my holistic doctor and see what she thinks. I will take all the supplements and see if I need to tweek anything.

Great workouts, everyone! I'll try and do personals later. Have a great day!!

Yesterday got away from me so I forgot to post my workout. My husband and i took the dogs on a long walk through the hills, my senior dog I pushed most of the way in the baby jogger. Walk was 1 hour and 50 minutes, traveled 4.5 miles and I burned 890 calories. We stopped a few times for me to catch my breath since pushing the jogger is tuff stuff. My husband pushed a little bit of the way but i wanted to do it so I could get in a good leg workout.

Today I took my puppy for a 45 minute walk, 2.3 miles and burned448 calories. Next, I did STS Meso 2, Disc #13 Shoulders only and added one extra exercise at the end. I will be doing STS this week with walking and doing one body part per day. I want to start lifting a little heavier than the Cathe Live workouts so these are my favorite workouts for this type of lifting. Workout was 21 minutes and I burned 152 calories. Total workout time was 66 minutes and I burned 600 calories.

Seated Overhead Press- 20's x 12, x 10, x 8, x 11 TF
1 Arm Lateral Raise- 10# x 12, x 10, x 8, Both Arms- 10's x 9 TF
Rear Flys- 10's x 12, x 10, x 8, x 13 TF
Upright Rows- 12's x 12, x 10, x 8, x 11 TF

The upright rows hurt my elbow, I hit it in the shower on the soap dish on the wall and boy is it bruised.

Debbie, great job on your box 4 workout this morning. I love my new bed, but I wish I had gotten a softer one, I still wake up with a slightly sore hip. I can put a new memory foam mattress topper on it, so I am not too worried about it. My parents have a sleep number bed, and they really like it. Let me know what your new doctor says regarding the supplements they want you to take for this issue you are having with the Pre Diabetic issue. This can be controlled by supplements, no meds are needed. A lot of the time the medical doctors read blood test numbers incorrectly, so I bet you will get a different result from this doctor. Take a blood sugar supplement, they usually contain a lot of Cinnamon and that helps control the blood sugar. Your optimum blood sugar should read 100. When I worked at my dad's company we had full blown Diabetics get off their meds quickly by using natural supplements. Doctors discourage natural supplements because they do not understand how they work in the body. Going to a Holistic doctor is a good idea. Natures Way makes a good one called Blood Sugar Support Manager. I got mine from Amazon. It has really good ingredients in it.

Doreen, way to go on scoring the Nordic Trac workout device, I will have to check it out on line. Great job with the leg workout today.

I hope you all have great workouts today!

Hi,

Today I did week 5 of STS, Upper body 1. We had to take Sadie to the vet for her shot. It‘s to humid outside to walk, plus my knees need a break.

Debbie - do you eat before you get your blood test done? Sometimes that can effect your results. My blood test are always higher even my AC1, it‘s from the prednisone and meds I am one. I have sleep number bed for the last 20 years and love it. Try them in the store out first. You get a feel for them.

I will be back later.

Today I did STS 2.0 Lower Body 2, 56 minutes, 137 calories, 98/131 heart rate. I also did 2.0 mat yoga 23 minutes, 33 calories. Total time 79 minutes, 170 calories. I lowered the calf raises this time because my right leg is off or something. It is near impossible to balance and raise up into a calf raise. My whole leg shakes. This has been a problem with even the quad move that Cathe does in lower one without weight using the stability ball, but that leg was torture getting off the floor. After the workout I tried to hold something and work on that leg with some calves barefoot and no weight. It did not used to be like that.

STS 2.0 Lower Body #2
Goblet squats 1 (I used a kettlebell) 35#, 10 reps
Goblet squats 2 35# 10 reps

dumbbell one leg calf raise R/L 2 15# 12 reps

Doreen, that is great that you got a free Nordic Track incline trainer off the curb. We have had to take apart our tread climber two times to move it which meant removing the controls and another part with unhooking some wires that sort of snapped together. It is one heavy piece of equipment. It took two men to move it with it apart. I am sure you will have fun with it.
Nice work with Nourish Move Love youtube. I hope you get your server back up and running.

Debbie, great job on Raw Box for your waistline. It really is a fun workout. I like that it works for a short cardio workout, works the abs, and the music is good. Our bed is so old I am guessing maybe 15 to 20 years old. We have purchased two different memory foam toppers for it.
I was looking and there are a few holistic doctors popping up here. None close though. I don't think insurance would pay for it though. I read that there are more medical doctors going to school and taking on naturopathic mixed into their practice. ALA is said to help with diabetes. I take it every morning, but not for that. It has a lot of helpful benefits. I originally bought it for my husband as it is supposed to help with numbness and tingling in the feet, but he does not like to take pills. My diet is more protein and fat than carbs most of the time. I have lowered the fat some though because I was following Paleo pretty strictly and recipes for keto and paleo often have a lot of saturated fat in them. I sub on some of those saturated fats or cut back and add something else. Although this has caused a lot of weight drop. Even my Withings app is telling me I am underweight. I am trying to adjust up. I know that irritates some people, but it is a problem for me right now.
That was rude of them to just tell you to eat low carb or take medicine. This should have been discussed.
Jolie, that is nice that you got in a walk with your husband and the dogs. You got in a lot of calories for sure. That is a good idea to do the walking and one body part per day this week. Those are some heavy weights for the overhead press. Great job. Ouch on the elbow.

Belinda, nice work on STS 2.0 Upper Body 1 today. I imagine with all of the leg work in these workouts that they could use a break day. I always make sure I do not eat or drink anything before I get blood work even if they do not tell me to. I want the results to be accurate.

Jolie, that is nice that you and your husband got in a walk together.

Do any of you know if there is an STS 2 upper body bonus like on the lower body or just the ones added to the body part dvds? I was looking at the moves on the workout card for the lower body. I think I may try some of these when I want a quick workout or to maybe string some together. I almost did the last move on the lower body bonus, but decided I did not want to drag out the step, and stability ball.

Today I went for a walk with Rowdy, 1 hour 10 minutes, traveled 3.8 miles and burned 651 calories. Next, I did STS Meso 2 Disc #13 Triceps only and did really well. My elbow is sore, so I went lighter with the weights than normal and still was fighting for it at the end. Total workout was 782 calories. It is so nice and sunny, I got to workout in the garage with the door up and it was so nice to have the fresh air.

Lying Triceps Ext.- 15's x 12, x 10, x 8, x 12 TF
Lying Cross Body Ext.- 12# x 12, x 10, x 8, 11 TF
1 Arm Kickbacks- 10's x 12, x 10, x 8, 2 Arm Kickbacks - x 14 TF

Walking the dog and then doing one body part per day works out well, this way I get to do both instead of just on or the other.

I hope you all have great workouts today. Enjoy your day :)

Today I did HiiT Chest, Shoulders & Triceps from the Ripped series by Cathe. I haven't done a Cathe workout in forever and enjoyed this one. I'm sure I'll feel it. I can't believe the last time I did this was in 2017 and I was pressing 30# dumbbells. Holy moly!!

Dumbbell Bench Press: 15's - 3 sets/12 reps
Finisher - Pushups: 15 reps (I did about 8, LOL!)

Incline Dumbbell Press: 15's - 3 sets/12 reps
Finisher - Tricep Pushups: Skipped

Incline Dumbbell Flyes: 12's - 3 sets/12 reps
Finisher - Decline Pushups: Skipped

Barbell Overhead Press: 20# - 3 sets/10 reps
Superset w/
Upright Rows: 20# - 3 sets/10 reps
Finisher - Scarecrows: 3's - 15 reps

Alternate Lateral Raise: 8's - 3 sets/10 reps
Superset w/
Front Raise: 12# - 3 sets/10 reps
Finisher - Lateral Raise w/Rotation: 5's - 15 reps (like pouring a pitcher of water)

Overhead Tricep Extensions: 20# - 3 sets/12 reps
Finisher - Dips: 40 reps (I did about 20, hate these)

Lying Barbell Extensions: 20# - 3 sets/12 reps
Finisher - Kickbacks: 5's - 20 reps

Workout was 45 minutes, burned 338 calories, HR was 125/166.

Then I walked on my treadmill for 1.15 miles and burned another 184 calories. Walked 2819 steps.

So I saw my holistic doctor yesterday and she seems to think the reason my A1C is high is due to stress with my mom's stroke and that happened during the time I had a lot on my plate at work. I told her I've never had issues with stress except one other time in my life but she says our bodies react to things differently as we get older. She told me to take L-Theanine 200 mg. which I ordered and already received. I took one and we'll see how it works. It got very good reviews. She also told me to lay off the high starchy foods as well, like potatoes and pasta which sort of irks me. I've grown up on pasta - I'm Italian!! I always eat whole wheat pasta and she told me that is the worst pasta to eat because supposedly it gets sprayed before they harvest it and then they never wash that spray off. Do any of you know if this is true? I need to research it. I will try to limit my starchy carbs, I agree that I do eat too much of it so I need to reel it in.

It is FREEZING here today!! Holy crap, where is summer? This June has been the coolest on record for Ohio since like 2007 or something like that. What is going on?

We ended up getting the C2 Sleep Number bed, I cannot wait to get it!! Of course she's trying to sell me $6000 beds. I'm like, all I want is one with the air and no foo foo fluff to lay on. I don't need heat/cooling and I don't need it to elevate. So after she showed me all the beds, I finally asked if she just had one of the originals and low and behold, she did. It was $899!!! Yea, a big difference from $6000.

Doreen - Congrats on the NordicTrack!! Have fun with it!! That is so cool that you got it for free! Nice deal!!

Jolie - Great job on your walks and workouts! You are doing great!! See above on what my holistic doctor said yesterday. What do you think about L-Theanine? I read great things about it and stress relief. My glucose levels are always good, it was my A1C that was way high. I think that was due to stress.

Belinda - I never eat before my bloods tests. I can't wait to get our Sleep Number bed, I have two cousins that have had theirs for years and still love it.

Diane - That is odd that you can't do calf raises, I wonder why? Do you have a pinched nerve or something causing that? Great job with that workout, though!! Way to go! No, insurance doesn't pay for holistic doctors which is ridiculous. I had to pay $135 for yesterday's visit of 45 minutes. I was surprised to read you mostly do keto. Maybe that's why you can't gain weight? You need some carbs in your diet. Can I ask why you don't eat carbs?

Roselyn - Great job on your chest work!!

Have a great day everyone!!

We lugged the incline trainer down to the basement last night. It took both my son and my husband and a couple hours to get it disassembled, down and then re-assembled. Whew! I was trying to figure out why someone had put such a nice treadmill (originally $2999 retail) out for free but that thing was heavy! And its a discontinued model so if it breaks I think I'll just have to toss it! I walked by the house this morning and there was a for sale sign out so I'm assuming they were purging getting ready for a move and didn't want to move it! My husband said its going to stay with our house if we ever sell.

I did STS 2.0 Lower body 2 this morning. Good workout -slow and controlled!

Today I did STS 2 Upper Body 2, 64 minutes, 149 calories, heart rate 98/131. I followed it with STS 2 chair yoga 21 minutes, 30 calories. Total time 85 minutes, 179 calories.

Jolie, nice work on the walk with Rowdy and STS triceps today.

Debbie, I have not done RWH weight workouts. Great workout. I find it interesting when I did out a workout card and see the dates and weights. I don't know if you would call it really starchy, but when I want a pasta dish I like Jovial Chickpea Pasta. It cooks up nice. I have tried some other brands that were just mushy and not the right texture. I think trying to use zucchini and vegies as pasta does not work so well. I think sweet potatoes are better in the carb category than potatoes. I like them diced and cooked in a little avocado or olive oil.
I mainly eat low carb as I want enough protein to help build muscle and help with bone health. I do eat plain unsweetened yogurt or cashew yogurt unsweetened with berries. I have added oranges recently. I am not totally carb free. Yesterday's macros were 35% Carbs; 20% Protein; and 35% Fat. So not bad. I had to throw in something before bed because mfp said if every day was like yesterday, I would be 102 lb. o_O Calories were not so good as I ended with 1,362 and that was after throwing in a chunk of Swiss cheese. I was surprised as I cooked up the meat from The Bad Ass Bowl and put it on cauliflower rice but had not made the Awesome sauce so topped with Siete Botana Sauce and a spoon of organic sour cream. I will get it figured out. I do have times where I have the urge to snack and will eat too many nuts or if I buy Siete grain free chips I may sit and eat the whole bag in one sitting.
Well I guess it is worth the money if the Naturopath helps the problem. The meds and stuff the doctors come up with can be costly even with insurance. I am using L theanine with ashwagandha to help relax before I go to bed at night. I have heard similar about fruit crops like apples and also stuff to make them keep through shipping that is not healthy. I don't think they do that stuff to organic, but have not researched it that much.
I can understand being excited about the Sleep Number Bed. You got a good deal.
It is not cool here. I was woke up to thunder and rain. Now it is 91 and sunny with high humidity.

Doreen, nice work on STS 2 Lower Body 2 today. Our Tread Climber is and older model and we called out a guy that does fitness repair and he replaced the treadles. It took some time because Bowflex did not have exactly what he needed since it was an older model so he had to cut the boards to fit and attach the belts. It cost us 500 dollars. but we have had it 6 more years so it was worth the money. My husband used it a lot.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did STS LB 1 plus Chair yoga and walked. Today I will walk and stretch. I am so sore.

Debbie - interesting! I had no idea WW pasta gets sprayed? I eat a lot of whole wheat too. I do buy organic. I think you like it.

Diane - thanks for the link.

This morning was bike to work day in Colorado Springs. So I rode to work. It takes about 30 minutes for me to get to downtown in the am. The real workout is this evening when I have to ride back home - uphill!

This morning I did 4DS Kickboxing and Heavy Legs & Core. Had a GREAT workout! I wasn't going to do the kickboxing one, I just started with the warmup and the warmup was so fun I decided to do the whole thing. Glad I did, it was fun and it's been a long time since I've done a Cathe kickboxing workout. I did almost all of the Heavy Leg workout, not sure why it's called that, it's not that type of workout. But it was good nonetheless. Haven't done this workout since Dec. of 2017!!

Legs & Core
Squats
(warmup) - 20# Barbell - tons of reps and counts
Front Squats w/Wedge - 20# Barbell - 2 sets/12 reps
Barbell Deadlifts - 30# Barbell - 2 sets/8 reps
Alternating Dumbbell Plie Squats - 20# - 2 sets/16 reps
Leg Press - 10# - 2 sets/12 reps each side (I used 2 risers)
Low Plain Lunges - Skipped
Leg Press w/Ankle Wts - Skipped
Seated Step Outs w/Band - Green Band (great burn!)
Squats - Skipped
Core - Skipped

I was worried about my knee for some of the exercises so skipped them, however, my knee has been doing very well so I probably could have done them. The kickboxing workout had ab work so that's why I didn't do the core work here.

Total workout was 1 hr. 6 minutes, burned 479 calories (woohoo!!), did 3479 steps and HR was 129/159.

Doreen - Glad you got that piece of equipment in your basement. Holy moly, I can only imagine what that took to get it down there!! And setting it back up again. Hope you get years of good use out of it!

Diane - Your workout looked awesome yesterday!! Looks intimidating but I bet it was a great one. I need to look into some STS DVD's I think. It's been a while since I've done RWH and I only have the upper body ones, I didn't buy the lower body or anything else with that series. I love seeing when I've last done these workouts, it's been so long. I miss working out with Cathe but her workouts always seem to injure me. At least I'm a smarter trainer now, I know what my body can and cannot do. I wish I could eat Chickpea - it's in a lot of vegan recipes - but I break out in a rash when I eat them. Not sure why, it's very odd. But my chest and arms get a bad rash and itch like I have poison ivy. Bummer because there is a lot I can do with chickpea. Thanks for that link, I will certainly look at it. That Bad Ass Bowl was good, I remember making that a long time ago. Very high in calories though. The meds doctors come up with always have side effects. They don't care, they just want their cut of $$ from the meds. I can't wait to get our Sleep Number!!

Belinda - That's what I need to find is organic pasta. None of the stores I go to seem to have it. Great job on your workout!

Have a great day everyone!!

Debbie - sometimes you can order them online. They are a little more expensive. Do you have a Whole Foods close by? I usually buy enough to last me for awhile when I go shopping. I also look for non GMO products. I think you love the mattress. Ours is basic too. We still love it.

Today I have my house cleaner coming so I only had time for a walk, I will do a walk and weights the rest of the week. Rowdy and I went for a 1 hour 10-minute walk, traveled 4 miles, mostly flat ground but there were a few steep hills, and burned 689 calories.

Debbie, great news on the holistic doctor's appointment! Yes, I take that supplement and it is really good for you. I would take more than one per day, I would take one at night too along with Calcium and minerals, especially Magnesium. Minerals are the most missing supplement in most people's bodies and it can cause a lot of problems if you are deficient. You also lost your brother-in-law a while back and that was very stressful if I recall. Any type of brown pasta or rice are really bad for you. Most are genetically modified, and I agree with the pesticides. It is basically forbidden by the Asian culture to eat brown rice because they know how bad it is for your health. That was all a gimmick to get people to eat it and they charge more for it too. Nice job on the workout today, it seems like you are getting in some great workouts now that you are off for the summer. I am so happy that you found a bed at such a great price! Sweet dreams...

Diane Sue, you are lifting some very impressive weights especially at 105 pounds!!! Darn girl, you are my idol :)

Doreen, enjoy your new piece of cardio equipment and also good luck with the ride home tonight on your bike.

Belinda, good job with the lower body workout and the yoga!

Make it a great day. It is cool and overcast here today but it will be sunny for the next 10 days after today. My son and a friend are coming home on Friday for the 4th of July from college, I am excited to see him. He went on a job interview with a Military Contractor for a Finance position, I hope he gets the job. It was his third and final interview, he would be working while finishing up his Master's degree. 22 years old making 150K per year would be great! All his hard work is paying off.

Today I did Cathe Party Rock'n Step 2 stopping after combo 5 and doing the stretch, 44 minutes, heart rate 117/155, 178 calories, 3,346 steps. I did 6 minutes prior to this and noticed my Garmin was still at 87 heart rate even though I knew it was not right. I stopped it and turned my watch off and back on and then started over. I forgot about some of the impact moves and modified some of them. The next combo had quite a bit of impact and then it was everything combined so that is why I stopped where I did. Besides I did not need to burn that many calories. Just take care of my heart. I also did STS 2.0 Standing Abs Metabolic Core Warm Up, 12 minutes, heart rate 122/142, 59 calories, 761 steps. Total time was 56 minutes, 237 calories, 4,107 steps.

Belinda, nice work on STS Lower Body 1 and chair yoga yesterday and I hope you have a nice walk today.

Doreen, I bet the bike ride is pleasant in the mornings going to work. I bet uphill on the way home is a challenge.

Debbie great job on 4DS and legs and core. I have not done that one if a very long time. Most of the time I just do the two step cardio workouts. I always had a dread of the lunge move that was pushing off of the floor. That was always a fun kickboxing workout. I am not sure why I do not use it more. I just forget some of them. Chickpeas are a favorite for me. I do not eat them often, but really do like them. I used to buy them dried and cook soak them to rub off the hulls. It was a lot of work doing the process, but the chickpea burgers I made were yummy. I have tried different grain free pastas and have only find that I like the chickpea ones. I tried casava and did not care for the texture when cooked. I like casava tacos. You can buy organic Pasta in caseloads of usually 3 to 6 boxes on Amazon. I order some of that stuff from Whole Foods and have them delivered. I do not shop more than one time a month with Whole Foods and that is when I order all of the special things and buy a lot of things like fish and meats. Then load up on my nondairy things. Walmart does not carry a lot of the things I like. I used to try to eat smaller portions of the awesome sauce.

Jolie, nice work on the walk today with Rowdy before your housekeeper came. Thanks, on the weights. I am going to start phase 3 which is Body Parts. So tomorrow will be lower body if I can get around to it early. My grandson will be coming so we will see. I did all but one of the Upper Body workouts before I got the workout cards, so just did the no repeats mixes. That will be nice having your son home fourth of July. That would be a great job for your son. I hope that he gets it.

Today I did Michelle 30 min. No Repeat Hiit. I liked the design of this. 5 compound moves, 5 upper body exercises, 5 cardio, 5 lower body, 5 core exercises. 45/15. It was moderate to heavy weights and she suggested that you can repeat it for more burn, and I did. Really enjoyed this one after a couple days off.

Time to walk my dog.
