Halloween and scary movies??

The Prince of Darkness...that is the one film I will not watch alone, nor will I watch it in the dark! That film scared the crap out of me!

I heard of this one. I'm gonna have to Netflix it now! I also heard Audition, a Japanese movie, was one of the scariest, most disturbing movies ever made. Has anyone seen it?

I also have to add that Rob Zombie's remake of Halloween scared the crap out of me, more so than the original.

OOOOH I love horror movies!!!!! Great thread! :D

I thought 'The Auditon' was really good, but not scary...more creepy maybe.

The Exorcist.

My 14 y/o isn't trick or treating, but she's decided to dress up as her favorite guitarist. My 10 y/o can't make up her mind, but she's currently leaning towards a vampire.

I will be in a giant banana costume. I might even take pictures and post them. ;)

Oh you just HAVE to post pics! I'd love to see the banana costume! :)

I don't know why but as a child, . . I think I was 7 or 8 I was just so darn fascinated by scary movies and science fiction. I'd do the thing that kids do when they put their hands over their eyes but peek anyway. My parents didn't care if I watched scary movies so I remember watching Friday the 13th, Exorcist, Nightmare on Elm Street, Carrie, . . I thought I was so cool for getting through it but I would be so freaked out when night came. I still love all the old classics, . . . I like watching the newer scary movies but they don't seem to do a very good job of scaring me, . . .they seem more gore and special effects, . . although that creepy backwards filming thing in the Grudge was sooo scary to me. I can't remember the name of that movie with the house that was a remake and the family moved in and the dad started trying to kill every amnitville, . . or something? That was pretty creepy to me too.

I used to be a huge horror fan. I remember seeing Halloween and Alien roughly the same time. Scariest week of my life!!

Friday the 13th was out that summer too, but I was leaving to be a counsler at a camp in the woods, I opted to see it when I got home...Thank God.

Exorcist
Halloween
Alien
Silence of the Lambs
Ghost Story (probably my favorite, the 1981 version)
The Omen (remember when they found the 666 on the kid's head!!)
Jaws
When a Stranger Calls (the original)
Trilogy of Terror (the doll thing, yikes)
Misery
Carrie
The Shining
Poltergist
Blair Witch

The Amityville movie didn't do anything for me, but the book scared the hoos-foos outta me. I read it several times, but I haven't touched it since Jr High. I should put it on the reading listed. Lover Avenged is next, then Frakenstein, then The Once and Future King, I can put Amityville after that, and still get it in before Halloween

Oh all great choices! My mom loves horror movies and thrillers and let us watch them when we were kids. I can remember watching When a Stranger Calls at the drive-in and being scared out of my mind. Ghost Story is another good one.

Great memories I have as a kid -----> my mom loved the classic horror/thrillers. They'd run on Channel 56 in New England on the weekends. So my sis and I would be asleep and my mom would come in and wake us and say "You don't want to miss this one!" THe three of us would gather in the living room with a giant bowl of popcorn and watch Psycho or Wait Until Dark or a vampire flick until the small hours. Good times. :)

Rob Zombie

These are more disturbing than scary, but both House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Reject did me in.

Those weren't scary - those were straight out gory/jacked up/disturbing. Not for the faint of heart or delicate of stomach.

I thought House of 1000 Corpses was pretty scary. I had nightmares for weeks after that movie, and of course me being the glutton for punishment goes out and buys both movies on DVD!

There was a French (I think) movie called High Tension that scared the bejesus out of me! Gory, twisted and just weird...the dubbing wasn't that great but it's worth a watch!

Also another one I forgot is 28 Weeks Later. Gave me nightmares for days.

Melissa - Ever seen 28 Days Later? I loved that one, but I haven't seen the sequel 28 Weeks Later.

I'm way too much of a chicken to watch scary movies. But, I watched Jeepers Creepers b/c it was on TNT. It still freaked me out.

I don't mind the Nightmare on Elmstreet movies much b/c the cheesy humor of Freddie kind of cuts the spook factor.

Why is it when DH goes away for a snowmobile trip or deer hunting trip every scary movie I have ever seen pops into my mind the minute my head hits the pillow??

The Grudge
The Shining
The Ring

I love horror movies, but most of them are so goofy, they just don't do it! They all have "jump" moments, but don't keep me looking under the bed and turning all the lights on like these three!

Holloween is my favorite holiday! My mom's too! The scariest movie I have seen is the exorcist. It still freaks me out even though i've seen it over 30 times. I don't have kids so i can't respond to the kid question. But my favorite holloween candy is candy corns:)

Yup, I love that movie! It was scary but for some reason the sequel scared me even more.

I'll have to check out the sequel. ;) I'll admit I was too enamored by Cillian's blue eyes to be all that scared of the first movie. He's not in the second one so it should be easier to concentrate. :)

Alien
The Exorcist
The Grudge
The Blair Witch Project

and . . .

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (the 1979 version with Donald Sutherland - remember the last last scene? "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!")

and . . .

Vacancy, with Luke Owen and Kate Beckinsale. That one scared me so bad I had to tell DH to turn it off right in the middle of it. He watched the rest of it the next day and told him I'd made a good call - I wouldn't have been able to live through the end.

Ditto on everything you said! We could be sisters:D
Possession movies really creep me out!!!

This year I'm very excited because they are finally releasing the movie Trick r Treat. I have no idea what happened. It was supposed to be released 2 years ago. It never made it to the theater but it's finally out on DVD next week! I pre-ordered my copy from amazon:D

You have gotten a lot of great responses, but I don't think anyone has mentioned Burnt Offerings yet (unless I missed it). A fellow forum member, Klaudia, told me about that one last October and I LOVED it! I recommend that one. :)
