GRRRRR!!!!! Driver's License Road Test FLUNK MAX!

Cathlete
Hello, my fellow Cathletes - thanks so much for your good wishes on my previous post. Alas, The Bald One bit the big one during her test, ironically NOT from the parallel parking mishegoss or mistaking the accelerator for the brake, but instead I screwed the pooch TWICE in getting into the proper lane to make right- then left-hand turns on a multi-lane. (well, i didn't know . . .) I have my little yellow slip with a big circle around the FAIL section to post as my motivator for the next time.

I plan on the second round of humiliation taking place no later than the end of September.

2009.

2008.

Maybe.

Thanks so much for your warm wishes! I think I'll console myself in a very mature manner: eat junk and Retail Therapy.

Oh no - at least you tried, and will try again! I nearly failed - don't know how I passed except that I just argued with the moron giving me the test. He instructed me to go up the wrong way on a ramp. I told him that didn't make sense and he told me to do it. Well, I did, then he got onto me for doing it. Being a smart mouth, I told him it hadn't made sense in the first place, but he was the adult and was supposed to know what he was doing so I followed his instructions, against my better judgment!! I did, however, fail the parallel parking part. Later on in life, I wanted my motorcycle license. I failed the written part, even though I memorized the book. Apparently, I thought too much...

Enjoy your day of eating and shopping, then get back on that horse (well, car) ASAP and give it another go ;)

Live and learn, right? :) Now you know what to do next time.

So what exactly happened? Did you fail to signal?

I shudder to think how I would score if I had to take the road test now. Back when I was 16, I did everything by the book. Now I drive a little more relaxed, and I'm sure I have developed bad habits.

That's great advice! Really, it just takes a lot of practice but I am certain you will rock it next time. In the meantime, consoling ((((((((hugs)))))))) and let us know what retail therapy items you bought. Hopefully, not the "never rotten meat" that's being inappropriately solicited in the forums here!

Take care A-jock.

Sorry you failed:-(
I failed parallel parking. I passed the test without it. To this day, I can't parallel park. I just look for spots I can pull straight forward.

Can you get professional driving lessons? I know they are expensive, but they tell you exactly what you need to know to pass. I bought lessons for both my sons when they turned 16. They only needed 2 lessons. They both passed on the first try when I really didn't want them to:eek:

Oh, so sorry! But, it's true that the next time won't be so intimidating, right? You'll get it then! Take a deep breath, buy some fun stuff, and eat something really bad for you. And, don't worry about it again for 3 days. Give yourself a time limit to not even think about it, and once that amount of time passes, take another deep breath and go back at it. Best of luck!

A jock, sorry to hear you didn't pass this time. Next time for sure. I've heard that a little Meat ganoderma lucidum right before test taking helps...

Hold on...you learned what NOT to do the next time! Just keep at it, envision driving, drive the car when your a passenger too!

Awwwww A-Jock~

Sorry to hear that! FWIW those closed courses can be tricky with all the one ways, two ways, and different signs in such close proximity. Now that you are familiar with the course, next time will be a breeze;)

Enjoy a bag of your favorite cheese doodles!

Thanks, guys! It may actually be that, when I go back, I only have to re-test on the parts I screwed up. Re the turning, I failed to get into the extreme left lane for a left turn, and failed to get into the extreme right lane for a right turn. Who knew?

NinjaMom, you're right - a lot of little paces to be put through in a small space. However, I'm glad it's a closed course!

DH (who has been the soul of encouragement and patience, as well as an awesome driving instructor) and I went and got him some new shirts at TJ Maxx, then we went to Target so that I could get some more jewel casings for as-yet-unrecorded Cathe DVD mish-moshes with my favorite DVD recorder gizmo. I have to think if I can master that little bugger, a Buick Lucerne tricked out like the Starship Enterprise shouldn't be too bad, right?

Next stop: Haagen Daaz, and Judge Judy! (Schlock TV Therapy)

Thanks again for your kind words, everyone!

You just need to move to Florida. You would fit right in with the "snow birds." They NEVER move all the way to the right or left lanes to make turns. They just make the turn and everyone else needs to get out of the way:D!

That's a bummer -- but we're still behind you all the way! Hope you enjoyed your day...we'll wait to hear more!

Good luck on the next try Aquajock!
My hubby flunked the written test in CO a few times!
I like your attitude and retail therapy approach!

A-Jock,

Don't worry about it. I will admit that my first time out I failed also. The written exam I passed. It took two tries, but I did get in the ninety percent the second time. I think I was just lucky though.

Congratulations for trying, and best luck to you on your second try. What ever you do or happens, don't give up! Driving gives you all kinds of independency, you don't want to be dependent on anyone but yourself anymore, right?;) As far as getting from one place to another.

Good luck, A-jock!

I had a similar experience a few years ago. After moving to a new state and letting my old driver's license lapse, I had to re-qualify in my new state--both a written test and a road test. I aced the written part but then, once behind the wheel, I failed to make a right-hand turn from the far-right lane--just once though. It happened on a fairly calm semi-residential street, and I was OK everywhere else, so I squeaked by and passed -- but it was still one of those "who knew" moments for me too! It's one of those things that's drilled into you when you first learn how to drive, and then you forget as the years go by.

I'm sure you'll breeze through on your next try!

Sorry to hear about your test. At least now you know exactly what you are in for and how to prepare. Like I said before, these tests are totally subjective, if the instructor is in a bad mood you could be set up for failure immediately. No to worry, you will get them the next time!
