I totally agree, I would have started back with the Native Americans. Since this discussion started with the Eurpoean point of view I started with the Spainish. At one time, there were more Spainish Catholics in SC. Also data also refers to Muslims, especially from Africia, from plantation records.

I also have Native American blood, thus if truth be told, I would be speakin' alot of languages.

Well, just to take this full circle (b/c you know I can't resist), the demographics of this country are changing rapidly, & supposedly by 2050 a majority of American citizens will be Spanish speaking (but when I was in college it was supposedly 2025, so that date might change again). We'd better all brush up!

In my county, 62% of residents are white, 20% AA, & 15% Hispanic. Believe me when I say si usted no habla español donde vivo, no puede contratar a no a trabajar para usted (please excuse my Spanish grammar, I kinda suck at languages).

Hopefully we will reach a day when we are so completely and truly a genetic melting pot that attaching too much importance to one's ethnicity or race is unnecessary and impractical. Can't we all just get along?

I feel the same way about gay rights. Hopefully we will come to a point (soon, please) where we no longer even need to debate if gay people deserve the same rights as the rest of us. (I mean REALLY?!)

Oh yes!! I own it and have watched it 100s, er, several, times. I'm not a big one for going gaga over Hollywood men but CB is my tinsel town crumpet. Too bad so many of his films are downers!!

Every parade in the history of parades has been hetero other than the Gay Pride Parade , & every channel in the history of TV has been WET other than BET.

Oh and I agree with you on the parades etc in theory (in reality I'll always defend the right of any group to march/protest/parade.) I'm not saying "gee I wish straight whiteys would move on from this" but that we could *all* move on from our national obsession with race and gender and sexual preference and just BE, you know?

So, you'd give up your U.S. citizenship to just live in another country because there was work there for you? I wouldn't!

I thought this country was about freedom of expression, etc. - for everyone?

I do agree that if you move to another country and are spending a significant amount of time there, you should learn the language, no matter how old you are! I am trying to learn Chinese now, just because, and know a little bit of Spanish.

No I would not give up my citizenship but I would enter that country LEGALLY and become a citizen of that country as well. I just would have to learn and embrace the countries culture that I was moving to. I just would not drive all over town with my car draped in the American flag. If I did I would expect some comments and not favorable ones at that.

A week or 2 ago there was a man from Mexico on the nightly news saying pretty much the same thing even giving his kids "American names" -just adopting everything and embracing America because he worked hard to get here. I have to have respect for that.

Some immigrants that have come here LEGALLY are NOT happy with the ILLEGALS. We have laws regarding immigration and they are useless just because everyone is ignoring them. They are breaking the law. The illegal aliens have no respect for America or the laws but really why should they? Law enforcement looks the other, way, and Americans hire them, paying them under the table, so they are not paying taxes. I don't want criminals here.

It would not be right for me to move there and expect them to change thier ways because I don't agree.

Years ago when I went to Europe our guide told us that many of his countrymen didn't care for Americans because of our arrogance and how we treated THEM while we were in THIER country. We expect them to know our language while in thier country. We referring to them as foreigners while we are in thier country. When WE are in THIER country, WE are the foreigners.



A few years back I learned some Russian through adult ed. classes for no other reason than just because.

But not specifically titled 'Hetero pride parade" to celebrate heterosexuals. We have parades; 4th of July, New Years, Veisha that may have predominently heterosexuals in it but there are gays and transgenders in there too.

And we specifically don't have a station entitled W.E.T. Why that would be racist.

We don't have a group specifically titled NAAWP. because that would be racist.

We have a double standard and most people are accepting it and I don't understand that. Reverse racism exists and it seems like it's ok at least with the people on this board. I have to question it. Sorry if I'm going against the grain.

Colleges not accepting a caucasian even though the test score is higher because they need to meet a quota of certain amount of ethnic groups.
I don't understand how that is right. I just don't.


And why is there no Children's day. That's not fair. I'm not a mom therefore no one celebrates mother's day for me. I guess I brought that on myself though electing not to have children since there is an overpopulation problem.

Tami, it's not a double standard b/c whites haven't been discriminated against & aren't a minority. There have never been specific hetero pride parades or white entertainment TV b/c it wasn't needed, it already existed in a country where whites were the majority & therefore in control of virtually everything.

Wow, what a thread. From Timesaver to Eggs. Technically, if one reads the true history of the United States of America, English would be our second language, Spainish the first.

That's only true for some parts of the US. In the North and down along the Mississippi, for example, we'd be speaking French.

(And why wasn't a French version of the Eggland's brochure included, since Cathe sells to Canada as well?)
