Getting Our Licks In!

Good night's sleep and started the day with Stretch Max routines 1 and 3. Boy, am I going to enjoy this active recovery week. It is definitely needed after finishing a mesocycle of STS. It is very cold (1 degree F this morning). I'm layered up for Quantico this morning and then into the office for a fun day of work. Can't believe I'm in such a good mood--must be active recovery week--YEAH!

Laura: I've never done the bonuses on LIC or Cardio Super Sets. I'm usually happy just to get through the workouts. We only got about 4 inches of snow and it was very light and fluffy, so shoveling was easy; it is the cold that is awful. We haven't heard from Kathy--but she is up in Long Island and I think she got a lot more snow up her way. You are doing great with your workouts and it is great having our Laura back with us. ((((((HUGS)))))) to you.

Back to the cold. Schools are still closed down throughout much of Virginia or going 2 hours late. Main roads are fine but the neighborhood and county roads are a mixed bag of good and bad. For example, in my Circle, the road in front of my house is clear but up around the bend, it is iced over. The difference is between those sections of road that get sun (even in this cold) and those that get no sun. And since many school buses run on diesel and diesel engines don't like to run in the cold--even if the roads were clear, they would probably close the schools because school bus reliability would not be there.

Something to consider in this cold weather: you burn more calories when it is cold because your body has to work harder to stay warm. Sounds like a good time of year to lose weight.

With that in mind, stay warm and keep getting your licks in.

Wow did we get snow 13 inches!!! Roads were too treacherous to get to the train station + DH had a snow day so decided to stay home. Its a good thing b/c the Long Island Railroad had limited trains & it was PACKED when I viewed the news!! I just can't deal w/all that anymore. Our new Mayor DeBlasio got blasted from all the people that live on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. They were the last to get plowed. I felt for this Mayor. NYer's can be very nasty. I'm back at work today.

Tuesday I got home early from work & did 10 Days to a Better Body the Upper Body workout + abs again. Wed. was 10DTABB Lower Body + abs again. Tonight I'll be doing Stretch Max. As I age I feel as if I need more stretching. I'm just not a fan of yoga.

Michelle: Glad to hear you got only 4 inches. Our lovely Mayor decided to keep the NYC schools open yesterday. Only 47% out of the 1.1 million school kids made it in. Oh boy here went another complaint to his office. Parents have to leave their house anywhere between 7-8 am & the sidewalks had quite a bit of black ice. Good for you for continuing on w/STS. Enjoy your recovery week!

Janie Sis: Thx so much for the info on MELT. I'll have to purchase this. I can't wait until I'm retired to get into my "zen" zone. Happy to hear that your back is all better.

Laura: I've never done or can't remember if I did any of the bonuses from LIC or Cardio Supersets. High 5's to you when you do Yoga Max. Cathe just holds those poses way too long for me.

Renee: Since the schools have been closed the kids will have to make up the time somewhere. Usually NY kids have to make up the time during the spring break. High 5's to you too for doing YogaX. I remember when I did this during Crane pose I lost my balance & went crashing face first on the floor. Had a split lip & a bruised nose. Never again! LOL Hope you go back to teaching tomorrow.

Cindy: Good to hear that things are back to normal for you & all the kids are fine & doing well. Glad also that your keeping up w/P90X3. I think I'll purchase P90X3 soon. Its sounds more put together & varied than P90X.

Stay warm,
Kathy

Tonight was Yoga Foundation. Sorry I forgot to post yesterday.

I'm making some water kefir and have to get back to it. Will talk more tomorrow.

Caught up with the posts.

Take care everyone,

Janie

Last night was a good stretch w/Stretch Max. I needed it. Today's windy & only 12 degrees. With the wind it feels like -12. Brrrr! Can't spring come around already? I had enough of this snow. Tonight I'm just going to rest. I usually do on Fridays.

Tomorrow I have a dental appointment which is 1 1/2 hrs. I doubt I'll be working out as I have errands to run first thing in the morning before my appointment. Sunday I may decide to do KCM's Shape Up workout #2. This is the Tabata one. Its hard!

Janie Sis: Glad you enjoyed Yoga Foundation. What's water kefir?

Stay warm everyone.

Kathy

Happy Saturday!

Thursday was my rest day. Friday I did P90X Chest & Back. This is the start of week 9. I definitely feel the DOMs in the area I worked. It's a good feeling. Today I get to do Pylometrics which is one of my favorites of P90x.

I had a 2 day work week this week. Seems so strange for the weekend to be here already. I despise winter. Especially January and February. Greatful that this month is almost over. I can't wait for Friday next week, when I'll be nervously sitting In front of my computer @ 1:00 ready to sign up for the road trip. It always gives me such a belly ache because it fills up so fast.

Everybody stay warm and strong! Keep getting your licks in.

Renee

Well dare I brag about the weather today after reading the cold bad weather posts!!! 63 today in beautiful Colorado! Felt like spring! But I know it won't last I hear it's going to snow again next week...

I did do Yoga Max. I like that one and yesterday I did Atheltic Step which I loved. Boy that step gets you going right away. I did kinda wish it was more true circuit style with cardio between the weights, but I have to admit I was happy when the step was over!!

Today was one of my old time fav's Rhythmic Step! Some how I had got it in my mind that this was an easy work out, But I was in a flop sweat by the end! I like that there are no blasts but that doesn't mean Cathe doesn't work ya!

The girls are having some friends over for a sleep over. One of the girls is being a pill......I kinda want to say hey do you realize your are being difficult and making everyone uncomfortable??? It's hard knowing what is ok when your the hosting mom, I set general guidelines for the house but behavior is difficult....I won't encourage the girls to ask her over any time soon though I can tell you that!

Stay warm everyone!!

I did the cardio in the Wedding Video. Loved it.

Renee, Good on your rest day Thursday. Great job also on Fridays P90X Chest & Back. Congrats on the DOM's. Hope you are able to sign up for Cathe's road trip. Fingers crossed.

Laura, Oh how nice to have 63 degrees. Enjoy! Great job on Yoga Max and yesterday's Athletic Step. And for today's Rhythmic Step. I love that one too. Don't blame you for not wanting to ask the little girl over again when she is being a pill.

Take care everyone,

Janie

Why is it I do better checking in on the weekdays than on the weekends? Friday was a break day. Sister gave me several Jillian Michael's dvds for Christmas, one of which is Yoga Meltdown. It has a level 1 (beginner) and a level 2 (intermediate, I guess) workout. I did the level 1 workout yesterday and today. I really like it. Jillian goes through the movements more quickly, so you kind of get your heartrate up as well. It's a good combination of stretching and strength moves, plus movement mixed in. It's a good active recovery week workout, only 35 minutes long. We are going to start exercising at work again and I'm thinking I will use this workout for the first few days. So I'm thinking I'll do a light step cardio in the morning and then this late afternoon at work. Thursday I will start the first week of meso 2 for my morning workouts.

Laura: you certainly can brag about 63 degrees, but to me weather in Colorado is a bit schizophrenic. I'm okay with winter weather, just not this extreme cold day after day. I actually think at this point in time that I prefer Yoga Max to Yoga Relax. Athletic Step always gets me good and you know that I love Rhythmic Step. You've been doing a good mix of workouts and sticking with it, which is the most important thing. YEAH for you! Your girls are about 12 or 13 now aren't they? It's a tough age period for kids. Hopefully, this one child grows out of it or perhaps she was just having a "pill" day.

Kathy: That was alot of snow you guys had. I'm glad you took the day and didn't deal with the commute headache. On the plus side, we are almost through the month of January, so only one more month with serious snow potential for us in Virginia. Sister and I have relatives that live in Orange County, NY and we hear through our parents who keep in touch with relatives about how much snow they have had. Not a fun winter up there this year. Are you thinking of signing up for the Glassboro roadtrip this year?

Hi to Cindy and sister (who I just gabbed with on the phone).
Michelle

Today is my rest day. Kinda boring. LOL

Michelle, How nice that you have some of Jillian Michael's DVDs. Lucky you! Great job on an active recovery workout and doing her level 1 Yoga Meltdown. Liking your plan to start up the exercising group at work again and doing the yoga's for a few days. How's your weather lately? So far we have fantastic weather and in the 40's. A little chilly, but the sun is out and making it nice and crisp outside. LOL

Take care,

Janie

I just couldn't believe we got more snow on Saturday 3"!!! Disgusting! Today its quite balmy 40 degrees. However, tomorrow & Wed. 10 degrees. Is it any wonder that my cough is coming back? I only lost it for a few days which felt great.

Saturday I did KCM's Your Best Body workout #1. My back, arm & legs felt nice DOMS. I must've done something right. Sunday was KCM's Train Like a Contender workout #1 then also did KCM's Circuit Burn the cardio & boxing premix cardio total time was 60 min.

DH leased a new 2014 Nissan Rogue yesterday. DH & I have to pay for it tonight + all the DMV charges so no workout tonight.

Michelle: Glad you tried Jillian's Yoga Meltdown & that your enjoying your active recovery week. Sounds great to me to do 2 workouts in 1 day. Are you the instructor w/the work class or do you follow a dvd? How did you do w/your pullup challenge that you were doing while back? I'm not planning on signing up for Cathe's roadtrip.

Laura: I'll take your 63 degrees thank you very much. LOL Spring is right. Great workouts too. I haven't done Rhythmic Step in quite a while. That's a shame that the girl was such a pill. Perhaps she just had an "off" day & isn't really like this all the time.

Janie Sis: Enjoy your rest day today. I'll take your boring day. LOL Thx for the link re the water kefir. How did it turn out? Glad you had fun w/the cardio in the Wedding video.

Waves to Cindy & Renee!

Kathy

Today was Jillian's Yoga Meltdown level 1 again. It really is a great recovery week workout. I'm thinking I might do a short Shiva Rea yoga practice tonight before going to bed or maybe one of Cathe's total body stretching segments. Called the golden retriever breeder in Richmond today; left a message. So nothing new to report there.

Kathy: 3 more inches of snow--goodness gracious! Fortunately, we did not get any of that down here in VA. So, my pullup challenge fell flat. I'm just not that motivated. What can I say? When we workout here at work, we usually use one of my Cathe or Jillian Michael's dvds. My friends here at work weren't prepared to workout today, so we'll try again tomorrow. Fortunately, I don't predicate my workouts on these guys. I always get my licks in first thing in the morning.

Janie: nothing wrong with a boring rest day. Boring days are good to have every once in a while.

Hi to sister, Cindy, and Laura!

Michelle

Tonight was Upper & Lower Body Sculpt and Stability Ball Abs. Still playing the piano and almost done with my bird drawing. Will be getting my guitar sometime this week. Joey will pick it up for me. Won't see it until next week. Purchased a guitar beginning book and a capo also a tuning device. We are planning to go to the Oregon Coast after Superbowl and I will bring the guitar along with me. We should be back home in a couple of weeks. And will visit my Dad East of the Mountains to help celebrate his 90th birthday. Lots to do.

Kathy Sis, Another 3" of snow sounds awful. But glad today was in the 40's. Sounds like sheets of ice for commuters, do be careful out there. Oh no, you cough came back? Nyquill helps me with that. Great job on Sat. KCM's Your Best Body wokrout #1. Congrats on the DOM's. Also for Sun. KCM's Train Like A Contender workout #1 along with KCM's Circuit Burn The Cardio & boxing premic cardio. You must of had some energy to burn. Good job! I'm going to have to look up Nissan Rogue. I love Nissan's. Enjoy your rest night and the car. Been making water kefir for about 3 years now. It's soooooo good. It's like drinking pop, but have all the wonderful benefits in it. Hmmm num yum.

Michelle, Great job on today's Jillian's Yoga Meltdown Level. I love Shiva Rea. Were you able to do one of her practices or Cathe's stretches tonight? Can't lose either way, they both are good. Hoping you hear from the breeder.

Take care everyone,

Janie

Weather here in NY is just plain ridiculous!!!! Its 14 degrees what a drop from yesterday's 40!!!! I'm moving on down to VA to be w/Michelle. LOL Not joking.

Tonight I'll do KCM's Your Best Body workout #2. I was thinking of doing KCM's Shape Up workout #2. This is the Tabata workout but b/c I'm back to coughing I don't think I should push it. At least not until the weekend.

Janie Sis: I rec'd the beautiful earrings yesterday. Thank you so much sweetie. I'll wear them tomorrow w/my navy blue pants & my sky blue sweater. They'll compliment my outfit beautifully. Enjoy your time next week at Oregon Coast & your DF's 90th birthday celebration. What a milestone for him. What are you planning on doing at Oregon Coast? Great job on your total body workout. Your challenging yourself w/not only trying to learn to play the piano but also the guitar? You're one amazing woman! Enjoy it. What kind of guitar is it? My DH plays an acoustic guitar + an electric guitar. He has a whole collection of guitars in our basement.

Michelle: Glad your enjoying your yoga practice. It feels so good to have your body just stretch everything out & have that relaxing feeling. Its difficult to keep up with a pullup challenge. I don't blame you for moving onto something else. Hope you hear soon from the breeder.

Waves to Cindy & Laura & Renee!

Take care,
Kathy

Well it seems a post I made didn't make in on the thread.

Sunday I did my first Slow & Heavy workout which I really enjoyed. I know it's a favorite of Michelle's. I ordered awhile ago, while in the middle of a STS rotation, and then everything went bonkers so I never tried them till now! I liked it a lot but it did really aggravate my rotator cuff! UGH I am going to see the Dr to get a script for a PT cause I don't want this to get even worse.

Yesterday was a rest day. I took it off to let my shoulder have some down time. We got winter here again! 7 degrees out this morning and 7inches of snow, warming up today and tomorrow and back to snow and cold on Thursday! Michelle is right....schizophrenic weather out here in CO.

This morning was another new workout to me! The original IMAX!! WHOOP WHOOP! I loved it! There were some familiar moves in the step sections that Cathe uses in her other DVD's and since I knew them already I could just follow right along! That was nice and the Intensity Blasts were good and tough while being doable which was also very nice. I am kinda dreading the last Cardio on :confused:;) the Rhythmic Step DVD which is Maximum Intensity Cardio. It has a high low portion on the floor for 26 minutes which I honestly just HATE!!! I will do it once and probably never again unless I like the step portion which is 34 minutes and I might add that from time to time.

I had one more DVD from Low Impact that I kept not getting to which was Yoga relax. I have done it before so I just moved on. I hope to tag it on one of these days or maybe my next rest day. An hour is hard to 'tag' on to one of my days. I know ya'll can relate.

Kathy: the news on NYC concerning the cold and the super bowl is all the buzz! All I can say is those are some dedicated fans! I am going to enjoy the supper bowl inside at a nice super bowl party thank you very much! Good job! Your workouts sound fun and super intense! Are you enjoying some results and fitness gains? Hows the diet?

Michelle: ah enjoy your rest week and all that relaxing yoga! Meso 3 is your favorite cycle right? I think it is Renne's too! And mine as well! Did you and sis get on the road trip roster?

Janie: I never got the wedding video. You do always say how much you like it when you do it so it must me one of your favorites! Guitar too! WoW! That's impressive!

Waves to Cindy!

Tonight was Yoga Foundation #2 and still need more practice on the plow. It's going to take awhile, I can tell.:)

Kathy Sis, Such a huge drop in degrees with your weather. Wow! Glad to see you listening to your body. I hope the coughing stops soon. You are so welcome and glad you could find clothes to match the earrings. We are mostly going to see museums, and enjoy the coast line which is spectacular all by themselves. Also will stay in Parks, some are still open for Winter visitors. It sounds like I'm some kind of exceptional person doing all these different things. The thing is I get bored really easy and need a variety of projects and things so I don't get bored. I think it has to do with my ADDA. I can do a lot of things just not an expert at them. It's fun. Don't know yet what kind of guitar it is. All I know is that it is an acoustic steel string guitar but made the strings into nylon. Easier to play for women and not so hard on the tips of fingers. Wow all those guitars in the basement. If we should ever meet, I would love some pointers from your hubby. How cool to have that many guitars.

Laura, You really didn't get the Wedding Video? Send me your address! I have an extra one with your name on it. Like I said to Kathy I get bored really easy and need a variety of projects and things so I don't get bored. I think it has to do with my ADDA. I can do a lot of things just not an expert at them. Great job on Sun. Slow & Heavy but sorry it aggravated your rotator cuff. Maybe the foam roller will help. Glad you had a rest day too, must be nice on the rotator cuff. So sorry about the schizophrenic weather you are having. It doesn't sound like fun at all. Great job also on this mornings IMAX. Yep, it's a lot of fun.

Take care ladies,

Janie

Shiva Rea Creative Core yoga this morning--Vinyasa yoga--not easy. I didn't do a stretch or yoga practice last night, but I did do some gentle stretching. My glutes are really sore. I was hoping they would feel better after my week of active recovery. Oh well. Still one more day.

Kathy: unfortunately it is not much warmer in Virginia right now but we do not have all the snow, so you come on down. That being said: we are supposed to get 1-3 inches of snow tonight. I hope the weatherman is mistaken. You will love Janie's earrings. I always feel great energy from Janie when I wear her jewelry.

Laura: I do love slow and heavy. I do not love maximum intensity cardio. It is long and it is hard. Plus it mixes hi/low and then step and my body just doesn't like traditional hi/low aerobics anymore. Good luck. The original IMAX is fun--glad you finally tried it.

Janie: sounds like you are staying musically engaged: piano and guitar. Wow! How do your fingers feel? Enjoy the visit with your dad and your coastal travels. Sounds like fun. Will Rolly go with you?

Who am I missing? Sister and Laura. Once again sister and I spoke a little on the phone tonight so I know that she is looking foward to a Cathe workout tomorrow. And where she lives they have had enough snow already to cancel school tomorrow. Hi to Cindy!

Michelle

Greetings and Salutations!

No school...again. This is getting old but nothing to do but go with the flow.

I feel like I have really crushed my P90x workouts this week. DOMs in all the right places. Today is suppose to be KenpoX but I usually opt for a Cathe workout instead. I'll also add on an abs workout since I'm tired of Ab Ripper X.

Janie, Janie, Janie...you make me laugh! Women are more then capable of playing steel string guitars. Reminds me of "girl push-ups" and straight leg push-ups. I don't believe it's gender specific. I've been playing all sorts of instruments all my life and I have never seen one made for just guys or just girls. Roflmao! Thanks.

I'll be back later...

Renee

1-29-14

We got 3 inches of snow again!!!! Grrr! I'm thoroughly sick of all this snow. Trains are packed. Getting pushed & shoved so early in the morning is no fun. Don't think I'll be coming down to VA anytime soon to join Michelle. They maybe getting the same amount of snow as us in NY.

For Super Bowl Sunday its supposed to be 33 degrees. The stadium is in NJ but you'd think it was in NY the way everybody is carrying on. They even went so far as to rename Times Square "Football Boulevard." Really? Are they nuts! I'll be watching the game in my warm cozy den.

Last night I did KCM's Your Best Body cardio & upper body premix. You do a cardio drill first & then an upper body exercise alternating. It combines all of the ub exercises from workouts 1 & 2. I had a lot of fun. Tonight will be Great Glutes the no stability ball premix. I rec'd a new ball for Xmas but haven't pumped it up yet.

Janie Sis: My DH is self taught on the guitar. His friend, Joel used to be in a professional rock band back in the day. Joel teaches him new chords all the time. I wish we lived closer too. DH would love to teach you. I see your still enjoying Yoga Foundation. I would want to keep busy with a variety of things to do too if I were retired. I would say your an expert at everything you touch. Such beautiful work you churn out. I want to get into pottery. Maybe in the spring I'll take some classes.

Michelle: Shiva Rhea's yoga sounds hard. Too difficult for me. Don't think I'll be heading down your way b/c of the cold you have too. I hope the weatherman is mistaken re your snow accumulation. Enjoy the active recovery week & hope your glutes feel better.

Laura: How frustrating to lose a post. Wonder how that happened? Glad you enjoyed the original IMAX. Cathe one time had a rotation where you did on Mon. IMAX, Wed. IMAX 2 & Fri. IMAX 3. I did it & was that fun!! I should think about trying that again. I used to do Slow & Heavy constantly. Loved it. I'm sorry though that it aggravated your rotator cuff. Good thing to rest & see the doctor. How did it go? I happen to like the hi-lo section of MIC but don't like the step portion at all. Never did. I've had no results from my workouts at all not even the meal plan. It sucks getting old. I've gained 2" in my hips, waist & thighs. I just can't lose anything at all. I bought yesterday on HSN a meal replacement from Andrew Lessman. My girlfriend takes these shakes & she's lost 30#s!!! Whoop to her. I'm truly at a loss.

Renee: Sounds like your doing great on P90X. Do you have P90X3? I'm thinking of purchasing it. How much snow have you gotten? No school again. Kids & you are going to have time to make up. Will you have to make up the time during spring break? Stay warm.

Cindy you must be very busy. Hope all is well. Waves!

Take care,
Kathy

Today was High Step Circuit. Sweaty one! LOL Will be visiting my daughter tomorrow, then Friday will go to the Beach House to join my Joey. The next day suppose to pick up my guitar (YEA!) It's been tough for us (woman who has the guitar and me) to get together to do this. Hope it works out.

Michelle, Great job on Shiva Rea Creative Core yoga; Vinyasa yoga. None of hers are easy. And for the gentle stretching last night. Time to bring out the foam roller to those glutes. Your recovery week sure went by fast. Bet you are ready to gt back to a rotation. Haven't recieved the guitar yet, but I'm sure my fingers will be tender for a little while. Yep Higgin and Rolly will be going with us to the coast and to my Dad's celebration. The celebration is still in the works, but if there isn't one we'll visit my Dad and take him out, or something. Don't like it when things are up in the air like that.

Renee, Great job on crushing P90X this week. And congrats for the DOM's, I'm sure well deserved. You make me laugh too! I'm such a newbie! L:DL! Can you tell? LOL What kind of instruments do you play?

Kathy Sis, Hope the snow will let up a little! You guys need to thaw out! Joey and I will be watching in the comfort of our Beach House no matter what weather we have. Certain though it won't be 33 degrees or snowing. We are so lucky to have mild weather. Great job on KCM's Your Best Body cardio & Upper body premix. Sounds like a fun workout. Ever since I let it be known about my interest in guitar, there are so many people that play it. How in the world did I miss out on that all these years? I would have loved to be taught by your hubby. Wow! In my younger day I worked in Fresno CA at Duncun Ceramics as an artist. When I moved back to WA I bought a kiln and also I had a potters wheel and threw my own pots and fired them. I don't know why but for years they just sat in our storage area and were never used again. Decided about 4 years or so ago to give them to an older couple. They seemed so interested in it and I think they were supplementing their income selling their ware. Do take up this art form, it is so wonderful what comes out of that kiln.

Take care everyone and stay warm, cozy and safe,

Janie
