Getting Our Licks In!

Yesterday I took a rest day and this morning I did travel fit before heading to the airport and back to Virginia. They got a little snow here today but by the time I got back to Virginia, it was over and thankfully the roads were all clear and almost dry. Sweet! Both of my boys were very happy to have me home and I sure am happy to be home. Ripken and I took two short walks. Hopefully, we can get a long one in tomorrow some time during the day. I'm guessing the sidewalks in my neighborhood will be iced over in the morning but should get better during the day.

Sounds like everyone has been very busy and keeping up with their exercise routines. Doesn't matter what you do, as long as you do it!

Today's challenges: Pull Ups: 4 assisted, 5 Australian, 6 assisted, 5 Australian, (1 max hang) I was doing Australian, with one knee in, nope, so I did 4 real Australian push ups. Man O Man. It's so hard! I'm hanging in there. Push Ups: 12, 13, 10, 10, 20. Squats: 16, 18, 13, 13, 25. Sit Ups: 24, 32, 23, 23, 50. I also did the rest of a full body workout with heavy weight 3 sets ea. of 8. Whew!

Shoegal, Great job on that treadmill and Tracy Anderson's Mat workout. Hey, you are getting stronger. Isn't that cool? She's a good instructor, just different from the norm sometimes. Yes, Joey is doing his exercises. I told him not to get use to it too much because I'm coming back to him very soon. He says he's proud of me.:) Sometimes, I tell ya, that's all it takes and you fall in love all over again. LOL

MicheleZ, Grat job on on Step Fit. Congratulations on ordering the Shock Cardio Series and the 4DS. You are in for work! It's all good.:) You will love what you bought.

Michelle, Great job on TF and walking Ripken. You are so good.:) You got home with no delays and safely too, that's wonderful.

Have a good evening every one,

Janie

Good morning everyone. Ripken and I had a nice "short" walk this morning. Everything was iced over so we took it easy. Just so nice to be home and back to the regular routine. Contemplating my workout today. I'm tempted to do Cross Train Express this week. Have to see how the spirit moves me in a little while.

I cleaned the first floor of the house when I got home yesterday, so I just need to do a quick clean on the second floor today. Then I'll start working on taxes. Would like to get them done and filed before we leave for Jamaica next weekend. Also going to start packing this weekend. Why not? It's not like we are wearing any of our summer clothes. Well, Joe is still wearing shorts and a t-shirt inside but he does put on sweat pants when he goes out. Geesch. DH is also on a diet. I'm hoping once he loses a little weight, I can get him to start some moderate exercise. I'm hopeful.

Okay ladies--time to start rockin and rollin on this day. Hope everyone has a great Saturday. BBL.

Looks like it is going to be a Cross Train Express week. Earlier today I did Power Circuits. The aerobic segment on that one is pretty intense: Lo impact aerobics, high impact aerobics, and then the power circuits. WhoWEE!

Now, I am going through my paper files and getting stuff organized for taxes. Ick. I was not as organized as usual during the year, so I'm having to put in a little more effort. But at least everything is in one place and I don't have to go hunting. Once I get everything organized, inputting the information to turbo tax will go pretty quickly.

Michele_Z: Step fit is not an easy workout. Plus it is a little over an hour, isn't it. So you did great. I bet by springtime, you are really going to notice a huge difference in your fitness level.

Speaking of spring: It's been nice and sunny here today--got up to about 42 degrees. Okay, I know that it is not spring yet, but before long it will be. Fortunately, the sidewalks are pretty much clear of snow and ice. Ripken and I should be good to go for our long walk tomorrow morning. Think I will take a break and take the pup outside right now.

Its been a fairly low key Saturday. I went to karate this morning and really enjoyed the class. Working on all the basics in this rotation so next week when we work on Universal 5, things should go fairly smooth. Universal 5 is a kata or form that incorporates all the moves learned during an 8 week rotation. Just in case you were wondering, and if I recall, I do believe Janie had asked about that. Well, theres the the answer! :)

My Mom and I did a quick shop after karate, and then it was homeward bound. I hope to stay home, until Monday morning work. This afternoon I did the time saver cardio from BodyMax 2. That is so much fun. And then I worked on Universal 5 for about 10 minutes. I need to get it down, so it goes smoothly from one move to the next. I have the manual and the DVD, so that helps a lot. By the end of next week, I hope I'll be able to do it without either one!

Janie, you are doing great with your pull-ups, push-ups and sit-ups! Oh and that reminds me. Today in karate, Master Alley had us doing walking lunges. I foolishly said, I usually do those with 50 pounds on my back. So, what does he do, he gives me a 50 pound kettle bell. Well, I'm not one to back down from a challenge, and I commenced to do two full laps with the dang thing. I think I'll keep my big yap shut next time. LOL! :D

MicheleZ, Step Fit is fun! And I know you will love Shock Cardio and 4DS. Two years ago I did the 4DS rotation. You might want to look that up and give it a whirl. It takes an entire month to do, and by the 4th week, you should definately be hitting your stride with it. So many Cathe's, so little time!!

Hope everyone is enjoying thier weekend!

Hello all! Not sure why but now I am getting a cold . I noticed on Friday morning towards the end of Step Fit that I felt a little fatigued which isn't normal - usually my workouts energize me. I don't feel too bad right now so hopefully I will be able to workout next week. Might need to cut down from 1 hour to 30 - 40 minutes until I feel better.

I like the idea of doing a rotation for a month with Cross Train Express and then a month with 4 Day Split - sounds like a good way to get geared up for summer!

Really nice day today. Ripken and I did one of our long walks this morning. Most of the sidewalks were clear--just a few icy patches. It got up to the low 50s here today--lots of snow melted. Exercise today was 10-10-10 on Cross Train Express: 10 minutes of Kickbox, 10 minutes of hi/lo (in my case, mostly lo) and 10 minutes of step, followed by tricep work. There is so much diversity in cross train express, I could probably do it every week if I didn't have so many other Cathe workouts to do.;)

MicheleZ: you can't seem to kick whatever bug you've got. It sounded like you were feeling better but now may be having a slight relapse? I hope you are able to keep it at bay.

Not alot going on today. Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday.

Hi all! I'm still home - so much fun to be in one place for awhile :D:D:D

This has been a pretty good week for getting workouts back to normal. I am so close to pre-fall levels! . For the first time since the fall, I felt comfortable putting specific back/chest exercises back in my rotation, and pulled out STS for that (naturally!). I did just the first half of Meso 3's back/chest, with reduced weights. Afterwards I could feel a little sore spot still in the upper right part of my back --- backs take so long to completely heal! It's probably good I kept to just half an hour. STS shoulders/bi/tri was last night, and there I'm nearly back to where I was in October. Triceps for some reason are quite a bit weaker, but shoulders and biceps are within a pound or two of Meso 3 weights. I'll stick with Meso 3 week 1 for s/b/t one more time, then readjust my tricep weights to match. Doesn't it seem weird that a back injury would reduce my triceps so much???

The horses are feeling neglected, what with the weather keeping us from riding at all. It's alternating between slippery mud and slippery ice out there - no riding for now! Picante figured out how to take off his nice new blanket and then trompled it in the mud. That's why I keep their old blankets around :p Sierra has taken to grabbing big hunks of hay and dumping them in the water trough - this may be because he knows I'll spend a little longer in the paddock fishing it out of the water the next day, and he'll get more attention that way, poor boy. Atreides is just plain wistful. He wants to be Mom's Riding Pony, it's clear. Ah, well, spring will come soon...

On the other hand, the dogs are having a great time. There isn't as much snow and we can go farther into the woods, and their paws do not get as cold. There are plenty of new interesting smells and sounds for them, with the woods-critters moving around more. One unfortunate thing, we've been seeing coyotes relatively close to the house. They are hungry from the winter, preparing for coyote-pups, and it's early still for them to find much in the way of prey. Am not very happy at all about the coyotes and have been making lots of noise in the woods to help let them know our pets have guardians! You'd all laugh at me - yesterday when I went to woods, near where they'd been the night before, I spent a little time banging old logs together, saying loudly things like this, This is Not A Catering Service! We are going on a walk! No one is allowed to eat the Cats and Dogs or there will be Consequences! This means you, Coyotes!!!. And also I've been touching trees without gloves. Coyotes don't know the words, of course, but leaving angry human scent and making angry sounds may encourage them to hunt elsewhere. It need to ask my Forest Ranger neighbor if he wants to use our woods to sight-in his rifle again - some target practice would leave gunpowder smells, which is discouraging to coyotes. Probably just as well our neighbors are quite a ways away or they would wonder why I am yelling in the woods :eek:

Happy Monday!
It is a cold one here! The temperature is something crazy like -26° with the wind chill. We are also supposed to get a snowstorm tomorrow evening with up to 30cm of snow.

Yesterday I dusted off my Ali McGraw Yoga Mind & Body DVD. This DVD has stood the test of time. I originally bought this on VHS years ago and I remember it being challenging. Now I can do the whole thing and find it to be a really relaxing yoga practice. I still recommend this DVD to people even though it's older.

MicheleZ: Sorry you are under the weather. Take care of yourself! I don't have Cross Train Express but i highly recommend Cathe's 4DS.

Janie: Keep up the great work with your push/pull/sit up training!

Hello to Renee, Michelle, Shadowpup, and Laura! :)

Nice morning and Ripken and I were able to do a nice long walk. Then I did Cross Train Express Step Intervals. One of my favorites on the Cross Train set.

Elle_P: 26 below zero is just crazy. Makes 26 degrees sound like a heat wave. Stay safe.

Shadowpup: you and Janie are getting some crazy weather out your way. I hope you guys get a break some time soon and things get start drying out.
Back injuries are funny things and I guess you never know how your body is going to react afterwards. But even so, it does seem strange that you are experiencing side effects with your tricep work. Who would have thought that? Not me.

Hello to Laura, MicheleZ, Shoegal, and Sister.

Oops--one more thing. Today Getting Our Licks In is marking its 365th day. Tomorrow, we will officially be one year old. I will start a new thread tomorrow to mark the beginning of our second year. Same title, just a new thread.

Dropping in to say Hello!

Rather odd weekend in that it seemed to be a rerun of last weekend's festivities - and last weekend wasn't that exciting!!! I did manage to spend a whole bunch on new St Patrick's Day decorations. I really had no intention of decorating for St. P because I never did before and there is no Irish in my heritage. DH has an Irish background and I had decided last year that I would start decorating because he said something about it - plus it gives me an excuse to buy some new things - but I never really needed an excuse.

My goodness - the year flew by, didn't it? I can't believe Getting Our Licks In is a year old!!! Well, I plan to break out a new Rebecca Small step tape (I'll let you know what its called tomorrow) in honor of the occasion!!! I'll do abs too.

Ok - I gotta go but hello to everyone!

Howdy! I think I lost a few days again! Last week we had gorgeous weather, so I wanted to take advantage of it.

Thursday I went X-Country for the first time all season (jeez what's up with that?) it was so awesome. It is so quiet, so serene and beautiful and the rhythm of the movement can be hypnotic. Sometimes my only thought is "kick& glide" for minutes on end! I went for two hours.

Friday was the Rec center Cardio coach on the elliptical and then STS Meso Cycle 3 Squat Rack Legs.

Saturday I did P90x Kenpo X

Sunday I took the girls down hill skiing.

Monday I taught a Pilates class & a boot camp class that consisted of 6 rounds of circuits including Cardio, Cardio leg blast, a compound body exercise, and core. It was tough!

Sounds like everyone had a good weekend.

Challenges: Pull-Ups are being too much of a challenge for me, will have to redo last week. I couldn't do the Australian Pull ups very well. It's OK, don't want injuries, so will do it until I'm strong enough to move forward. For the Push Up: Ok, but harder as time goes on. Still doing well with them. 12, 17, 13, 13, and 21 with 60 sec between sets. Squats: did 15, 22, 17 and 17. Realized my left knee was hurting, so I decided to take this challenge out. I don't want my knee injured any more than it is. Seems it's to much for it. Will put ice on tonight. I feel my age might be getting in the way of this one. Sit ups are good. 27, 33, 24, 24, and 60. Yeah! Also did 3 sets each of 8 for hamstrings, inner thighs, outer thighs, biceps, triceps and shoulders. Used as heavy weight as I could before my muscles failed me. In this case failure was a good thing. My legs are fried! I'm already feeling DOMS

I can't believe how fast time goes. Would love to see a fresh thread for us. See ya all there.

Have a good evening everyone,

Janie

So yesterday my office had a free trial Boot Camp class after work and boy did we get our a$$'s kicked! It was a great workout so I'm hoping this is something they will offer regularly. The instructor was really good and those of us who showed up had a great time.

It's funny, because so many girls around the office complain they want to get in shape and complain about our company, yet only 4 women and 1 guy showed up for the free class. The company is looking to see who would be interested in this type of thing and everyone is so wishy-washy about making a commitment.

I went to my WW meeting and lost another 1.6lbs! Woo-Hoo! I'm still not quite sure what my target weight is but i'll figure it out at some point.

I'll keep an eye out for our new thread!

I've been waiting for Michelle to start a new thread ??? before posting. I decided just to go ahead on our old one.

Anyway - last night I decided to do my new Rebecca Small - I still can't remember the name??? I really loved the last tape partly because of the clothes Rebecca and her "back up babes" were wearing -really cute cargo pants and shirts that fell off one shoulder (sort of like Flashdance) - none of it was tight which I appreciated. Isn't funny how things like set, clothing and music make an impression on us??? - none of it changes if the workout is a good one or not - but we will like it more if it is all agreeable. Well - I can't speak for everyone - but it does for me. This tape didn't have cute outfits. She was wearing sweatpants and a white tank top and it was very dark on the set - even darker than Step Mechanics but the choreography was top notch. I was getting everyting 5th combo in (there are 9 altogether) when DH storms in mad as a hornet because he can't find the music he wants on Itunes. So I stop to help - and a 1/2 hour later - well, my concentration was lost and I couldn't return to where I left off - I was lost. You really have to concentrate sometimes!!! So I added on 15 minutes worth of Cathe abs and called it a workout.

Tonight - I'll be running on the treadmill and doing Tracy Anderson!!! We were supposed to get an ice storm today - it didn't happen. I am wondering who is getting hit with this monster storm that is coming???

Hope you all have a great day!!:)

Feeling much better! I did Gym Style Back, Shoulders and Biceps - man that hour passed fast! Probably because my brain couldn't handle the lifting and keeping track of time.....:p I really like the Gym Style workouts - old school feel to them. I am going to do the other 2 Gym Style workouts - I might make a month rotation out of them and then move on to 4DS or Cross Train Xpress.

Today watched TV and did stair climber at the same time. About 30 min.

Elle, Wonder why you all didn't have more people to do exercises. Their loss for sure. Your co. has the right idea, and hopefully people will realize that and join in on that bonus. Congratulations on losing yet another 1.6 pounds. 'So proud of you!

Shoegal, Impressions are important, and motivating.:) Sorry about your workout interruption. Not good. You did good for what you could do. If by chance you get hit with the storm still to come, be safe and warm.

MicheleZ, So glad you are feeling better. Great job on Gym Style Back, Shoulders and Biceps. Love those workouts.

Have a good evening everyone,

Janie

Sure is quite here lately. Will come back to report exercises. Hoping everyone is OK with all that snow. Stay safe, warm and hydrated.

Janie

Hi everyone!

Well we have been hit by the super supper cold! -32 this morning! Yikes! The girls school has been closed for two days. And I cancelled my classes as well. I took yesterday off as I haft had one in a few and my body has been complaining to me a lot lately. In addition to my R knee still being cranky again my L inner groin was not to happy with me either ....

Today I did STS Step Moves again and then I was going to do all of High Reps, but decided to just do the Upper Body as the Step seemed enough for my lower body considering my current issues, then I decided to tag on the Upper Body Split from Cross Train Xpress which made for a killer upper body workout! My arms are still fried

Elle bootcamp is fun! I find that therefor a huge gap between what people say they want and what they do! if I had a dollar for every time someone told me they were going to come to my I would be rich! Congratulations on your continued weight loss!

Shoe gal: I think set has a big impact and lightening is so important! Even though Cathe's older workouts might be dated by her hairstyles & outfits (to a lesser degree) the set & lightening are NEVER sub quality or distracting, so I can ignore the rest! Plus the there is nothing dated about the workouts!! Sorry your workout got interrupted !

Janey: so you are doing all those pushups from the toes? Good for you, for sone reason I could hardly do all the pushups in my combined workouts today discouraging really!! Keep up the good work!
