Getting Our Licks In!

DH and I have been reading James Herriott Dog stories - my goodness - the one we read this morning was so sad. I cried - I sure am thankful for all of the advances in veterinary medicine!!

Last night I took down my other tree - the one that is a huge pain in the butt to put up. DONE! The final tree which is still perched on top of the kitchen cabinets (I know how that sounds but it isn't a big tree and the ceilings are high) - as well as as a ton of other stuff - I have too much to do but I am working on it.

Last night Step Mechanics AGAIN. I did the more difficult combination and I am going to say that I got it down - not perfect but relatively well and was quite happy with myself. I'm now a little bored with this now - but I haven't managed to do the whole thing yet - I think I'll attempt that then I'll move on. I have other new workouts I need to do!! Afterwards did another Cathe Ab Hitts.

We are expecting more snow - and tonight Krista will go to the Vet's. We have been trying to put weight on her - but so far she looks as thin as she did a week ago but she sure is a good good girl. She didn't know "sit" at all - we had to push hard to get her to do it - now - down she goes - such a bright pup.

Hope you all have a nice day.

First of all, thank you for all of your kind words on my weight loss. The last couple of weeks have been a little hard but i'm back on track today and i'm going to weigh in at WW even though i'm pretty sure I gained. My leader keeps asking me to start maintenance but i still want to lose a little more before i choose my "maintenance" weight.

I've been working my way through Shiva Rea's Daily Energy. I've done some of the preset workouts and i'm also mixing and matching segments using the matrix. Some of the routines i can get through easier than others (hello pushups!) so i want to work up to doing all of them with ease.

Michelle: Sorry You are feeling under the weather. Hope you get over that head cold soon.

Shoegal: I only got into Shiva Rea last year but i really like her. To be quite honest, a lot of these celebrity yoga instructors rub me the wrong way. I do like the Namaste yoga series (I have season 1 & 2 on DVD) and i still like Ali Macgraw's Yoga Mind & Body. I had this on VHS and then got it on DVD. Very well made yoga DVD.
Dharma Mittra has two DVD's that i want to get eventually called Maha Sadhana. He is a teacher I admire since he has integrity.

Janie: Great job working those pushups! They are tough but effective.

Shadowpup: Glad to hear Clara is doing well and on speaking terms with her dad.

Renee: I'm so impressed with how far you have come since beginning Karate! Very inspiring!

MicheleZ: Keep up the good work and you will achieve all of your fitness goals.

Happy Tuesday!

A snow day here in Central Virginia! Hip, hip hooray!

Well, I don't know what I did while doing HiiT 40/20 but Monday night I woke up feeling an awful pain in my right knee.Uh-oh! Yesterday at school, it wasn't too bad, until later in the day, my moblity was slightly limited and it moderately hurt. Enough for me to be aware of it. Came home, took some ALEVE and debated on karate. I went because we are doing sparring combinations, and I just love that. Any how, I was pretty limited there too. Could only do upper body and some lower body as long as it was my left leg holding my weight. Hurt all night. I am suppose to do Cardio Core Circuit today. Hmm, thats probably NOT gonna happen. And tomorrow is STS legs disc 6. OY! Such a dilemma. What I'm thinking is Basic Step just on the platform, no risers and then some stretching and some karate. Heck I've got all day, since I'm home, so it's nice to take it easy and not have to push myself.

Sister! Where did you get that cold? Feel better, will ya! Did you go to NC today, or are you waiting it out a day?

Way to go Janie on your 5 toe push-ups! Slow and steady is good, keep it up!

Shoegal, I read those books when I was a teenager. Good, yet sad in parts. Have you ever read any Rita May Brown books? Its about a postmistress in Crozet, Virginia who solves murders with her two cats and one Corgi. Very easy, fun reads. But I do recommend reading them in order. You don't have too, but I think its better that way.

Have a wonderful day everybody.

~Renee

A shout out to my Cathelete Friends!!

I am going to have an easy exercise day ((((sigh))))). I have been trying to get up at 5 pm to get my card in on Tuesday, as I am scheduled for a massage after my Beginner Pilates class and she doesn't want me to exercise afterward, but once again it didn't happen.:eek::eek:. And I have had a bunch of newbies so I spend alot of my time walking around the room and correcting form. Maybe I can get a walk in. Although it is crazy cold here as well, even in the negatives which is putting a hamper on my outside activities.

Hmmmm a July road trip sounds like fun! I turn 40 in June and that would be such a fun way to celebrate it! Maybe my family will give it to me for my birhtday...

Michelle: shhh take cAre of yourself and don't get sick!
Shoegal have you ever done Step Moves? The 3 count step always messes me up! Any advice or tips would be appreciated.
Janey: is pustule a NYS resolution for you? It is one of mine, I can do 30 from the toes on a good day and would like to do 50 by 2012! I like your plan of action of adding one each day..maybe I will try that on every other day
Elle: wow congratulations on 20 lbs! I still have 20 to go, but I am really working on it now and I thought I looked smaller in the mirror today while teaching.....
Michelle: do you like the nutrition program on Cathe? I am thinking of switching from Spark People to Cathe so it is all on one site
Renne: oh dear believe me I know exactly what you are going through so frustrating! I would concentrate on upper body for a few days and ice, elevate, and rest that knee!

Joey and I did The firm Vol. 1 (Susan Harris) and I did 6 pushups on my toes. You have to remember to breath, don't you?:D

I started another Lurkers thread, wish me luck.

Shoegal, James Harriott is such a great author. Enjoy. Great job on Step Mech. and getting it down. I knew you would, you are just that way.;) Also a great job on the abs too. I hope you find out why Krista is not gaining weight. Maybe a tape worm? Signs of tapeworm are rice like things around were she lays or around her bottom.

Elle, Great job on Shiva's Daily Energy using the matrix. Love the matrix!

Renee, Your plan of doing step on the top is a good idea. You don't want to hurt your knee anymore than it already is. In this case using a roller could help a bunch. Do you have one? Have a wonderful time with snow, either watching it or playing in it.

Laura, Sorry about the exercising. Hope you get that walk in. It would be so cool if family can give you a road trip for your birthday. The pushups aren't for a NYS resolution. Seemed like so many people were doing, I felt like I had to too, or be left out. See how everyone inspires each other? I'm enjoying it so far, but I do have to remember to breath. Also will soon do it every other day, to let my muscles heal in-between. You can do 30? Wow! I'll work towards that. I would also like to do 50 by 2012. Will it really take that long though?

Have a good one everyone,

Janie

It's great to have everyone posting today. We did make the trip to North Carolina. The roads were fine. Wet, but fine. And I guess it is snowing at home. Hopefully not too much. I'm still tackling the head cold. I think I must have picked this up at work. I did the step portion of Intensity this morning. It wasn't pretty but I did it.;)

Elle: major high 5s on losing the pounds. Think of maintenance as another way of moving along gradually to your ulitmate weight goal. Every once in a while you have to give your body time to get used to being at a new weight level.

Janie: way to go with the toe push-ups. How many lurkers threads have you started over time? Did your Lurkers group from last year graduate to a new name?

Sister: what did you do to your knee? It sounds potentially not good. Be careful, don't put yourself out of exercising completely. You may need to take it down a notch for a few weeks. Stafford schools actually got a day of school in today. I think they may have gone home early. I've talked to Joe on the phone but didn't ask how much snow has fallen so far. I hope it is not too much.

Shoegal: I love James Herriott's books. Dog Stories is one of my favorites because it focuses on our canine friends, but they are all good. And yes, sometimes they do make you cry. I haven't read those since high school. They are definitely worth another read.

Laura: it would be great to have you come to the roadtrip. Start dropping hints to your family so you can be poised at your computer when it is time to register. Remember last year, all the spots filled up in 10 minutes.

Hi to Michele Z and Shadowpup.
I'm going to take a little nap before dinner.

Still under the weather - took me till today to realize I have a sinus infection. I get them several times a year - esp. in the winter. I have a doctor appt. tomorrow morning and should be feeling better within a day after starting the meds. I know most people can function with a sinus infection but I can't - it makes me so tired - like wet noodle fatigued  and seriously grumpy.

Still loving the nutrition software. I have not eaten this healthy in many years . Bought loads of veggies, fruits and good for you stuff in general (almonds, wheat germ, flax seed, etc.). I am sure my body appreciates the good stuff! Funny part is, all the food tastes good to me and I am not hungry. For example, for lunch I had non-fat yogurt, almonds, grapes and several other goodes mixed together and that kept me going until 5:00 p.m. with no problem. I am trying to eat healthy but it has to taste good to me, if it tastes like cardboard I simply won't eat it for the sake of being healthy.

Anyway, glad everyone is getting their workouts in - I hope to join you again soon, probably Friday.

Joey and I did The Firm Vol. 3, Sandahl Bergman. We had sweat on that headband, enough to wring. LOL:D Also did 7 pushups on toes. I think it might be time soon, to add one pushup every other day. Will start, if or when I reach 10.

Michelle, Glad you made it safely to NC. Hope you get better soon with that awful head cold. Dispite you not feeling well, you went ahead and did the step workout from Intensity. Hat off to ya. Doesn't matter if it was pretty or not, you did it. Well done. I only had two Lurkers group, this one and the one last year. Yes, this group decided to move forward and named themselves "Strength in Numbers". They are awesome, just like you guys are.:) I'm trying to get some interest going, but maybe not this time. I'll try again in a month or so.

MicheleZ, Hoping you feel better soon. You are not alone, I can't function with a sinus infection either. Isn't it great to eat healthy and feel wonderful? So proud of you! See ya Friday.

Janie

Tuesday I did exactly what I said I would do...Basic Step on the platform, no risers, Stretch Max #1, and some karate (minus kicks). Yesterday was just karate. I was suppose to do STS 6 Legs. Since it seems I have a sprained right knee, specifically the MCL, I am nursing the right leg back to health. I bought a knee brace which helps ALOT! My knee feels almost normal, but I won't be fooled. I am going to take it easy with the cardio for the next couple of weeks. (Which is very frustrating to me, but worth it in the end) I will probably do Low Impact Step when I get home, with risers. Its suppose to be MMA:Kickbox, but there are too many exercises in that DVD that could make my knee flair up again. I will attempt STS legs tomorrow after school. I think with some Aleve, ice, knee brace etc. I should be able to do most of the leg exercises. Some of the sliding disc things I may skip due to the unsteady nature of it all.

Janie, yesterday in karate we had to do a minute of push-ups. I did 38 of them! On my toes but the last 5 were really hard. We are suppose to do around 70 of them in two minutes. Yeah, well, that will take a while, but I'll get there. AND so will you! Set a goal and go for it.

I hope that everyone starts feeling better. It stinks being under the weather or have aches and pains.

Take care everybody, but keep on keepin on!
~Renee

Calling all"Get Your Licks In"!

Hi Ladies,

I did 8 pushups on my toes today. That alone brought up my heartbeat. Looking forward to be able to do 10 so I can start every other day.;)

Also did the whole Power Max. Whew! That was a double headband wringer. LOL:eek: Loved it.

Will take Rolly in shortly to have his nails clipped. He won't allow me but only once to do that to him, even though, I've never hurt him. Oh well. His squealling hurts the ears, when he is having it done. Wow, you literally can't hear for awhile, it is so loud and high pitched. Poor little guy.:(

OOPS! Once I put a title in, it seems you can't change it. I meant to say "Getting Our Licks In". Shoot! I'm embarrassed. (head down in shame)

There is a pushup challenge on how to do 100 pushups in 6 weeks on this site: hundredpushups.com. A person from my other thread told me about. I'm going to do that. Right now I rank at 2. It's better than I hoped for. I did my initial test this morning and could really only do 8 pushups with good form. I'm so excited! I'll start this challenge on Monday, I'll do 9 pushups on toes tomorrow and 10 pushups on toes Saturday. I'll be ready then for Monday. Anyone want to join me?

Have a great day, and would love to hear what you did today.

Hi Everyone!

Yesterday I did about 25 minutes on the elliptical than my friend met me at the Rec Center and we sat in the sauna and the hot tub. That evening I taught my Total Tone class. The classes have been really packed lately, with the NY resolution crowd. I wonder how many of them make it a lifestyle?

Today I did 35 minutes on Elliptical with Cardio Coach and 35 minutes on the recumbent bike at a low steady rate. Than I soaked and steamed for a little bit! Nice to indulge a little bit.

I finally bit the bullet and ordered the Nutrition Software, I was tired the SP nutritional tracker, which I really found sub par. But unfortunately I am having all kinds of problems with the software. I posted on the support forums so hopefully they can help me out

Renee: I think step has a lot of twisting and torc on the knee. Have you considered a stationary bike or an elliptical? They have a lot less impact for a strain. Please take it easy on that leg or it might become a bigger issue. I know it is hard! My knees are still not the same and I didn't have a strain and I laid completely off the legs for two weeks and then started back very slowly.

Janey: COngratulations on making progress on those Push-Ups. I have wanted to do the 100 pushup challenge for awhile! I should do it with you! Are you starting on Monday?

Laura, Great job on the elliptical, bike and Total Tone Class. Love the Spa after a workout.:) Isn't Cardio Coach fantastic! I love Sean. Let me know how you like the nutrition software when it is working. Yes, let's start the pushups on Monday. I'm even thinking about doing the 200 sit ups. You in on that one two? I think we can do both. It will be great to do these with someone.;)

Take care,

Janie

We have had two little snow storms, one on Saturday (the day my new yoga classes started) and one on Tuesday. Only about 5cm each time, but it was enough to mess up traffic. We are supposed to get more snow starting tonight until tomorrow at noon so it should make for a fun drive to my yoga class.

My WW meeting went better than I expected: I lost 0.6lbs.:) This week has been challenging with going out for a big dinner to celebrate a birthday and then a cheesecake feast in my office (3 different kinds!). I really need to get it together for the next four days so I don't blow this week.

I've been continuing to work with the Shiva Rea Daily Energy DVD. The last two times I did a routine called Shanti (which means peace) and it was so relaxing! The routines are only 20minutes so I usually do two of them or add on the meditation, core, and forward bend add ons. All this talk of pushups makes me want to do the Fire routine which has a lot of "yoga pushups".

Renee: Sorry about your knee! Take care of yourself!

Michelle & MicheleZ: Hope you are both feeling better soon!

Janie: I have heard of that pushup challenge before. I'm sure you'll be increasing your reps in no time at all.

Laura: I know what you mean about the NY resolution crowd. All my yoga classes are always packed in January!

Happy Friday!

Today was Cardio Coach Vol 3 on Elliptical and man oh man was I drenched in sweat! I never sweat like that on ellipticals until Sean! Sometimes I feel embarrassed by how sweaty I get and other times I feel like that is why I am here & if you aren't sweating than you aren't trying! Than I basically did Muscle Max, but without the video. ( i am basically doing as much of cathe's January rotation that I can fit into my schedule) Than I enjoyed a long sauna.

Janey
I will check out the 200 sit up site to see what it entails. My only hesitation is fitting into my current schedule without interfering with adequate rest...

Elle
Great Job on the continued weight loss! I think I have lost weight, but haven't weighed myself in awhile. I did maintain during the holidays, but now it is time to get serious and tackle my last 20 lbs!

Joey and I did The Firm: Hi-Def Sculpt. It's a full body workout. Plus I did 9 push ups on the toes. Yeah!

Elle, Be safe driving around in snow. Congratulations on losing .6 pounds. Good for you! Cheese cake is a weakness of mine too. Hang in there and try to resist. Shanti sounds so lovely.

Laura, Great job on CC Vol. 3 on the Elliptical and what you remember of MM. You must have worked very hard to drench that much sweat. Fantastic! You are right, if you don't sweat than you are not working as hard as you can. OOOOO, you deserve a long sauna after that.

Have a great rest of the day everyone,

Janie

Yesterday I wrote this long post then lost it somehow :mad::mad: - afterwards I simply gave up.

So on Wednesday I did more Step Mechanics - seriously bored with this though - and threw in the towel early. I think I need to skip ahead - I can't be doing the same thing time and time again. I also tacked on an Ab Hits workout. Yesterday I did all of STS Total Body - that was fun - glad to have gotten that in and it felt good. My back is killing me today - I have been icing for awhile.

Laura - I wanted to tell you that to sit down and watch Cathe first on Step Moves - I know which move you are talking about - and it is tricky. I actually didn't think this works but I've done it on other step videos and it really helps. Just keep watching it - and something will click. Sounds like you are getting in some great workouts and some spa time with all those saunas and hot tub visits. Let me know what you think of the nutrition software - is it working for you yet?

Elle - Congrats on the .6lbs lost - Wow - do you use lbs? or Kilos? Well done though. Good work on your yoga - Shanti Routine with Shiva Rea. I love the names - something that means peace should be relaxing!!!

Janie - I'm seriously bad in the push up department. I think I actually looked up that push up challenge before - I'm so proud of you. My personal best with push ups is far below 100 - about 33 - I'm interested in how well you do and I'm rooting for you.

Sorry all the Michelles are sick - take care of yourselves!! Renee - baby that knee - take it easy - I know that is hard but it is worth it.

Hello to Shadowpup - traveling again??

Hope everyone has a great weekend!!:)

Hi all,

Yes, Shoegal, you guessed it - travels again this past week. Monday afternoon to Friday morning, then similar this coming week. It was the first trip back to the office ... well, kind of fun, rather hectic, and hard to readjust.

We are trying a new approach with the cat who owns me, Rapscallion, who has the stress issues. Instead of minimizing my departure, I made a very big deal out of showing her the packed bags, petting her and holding her for a bit, showing her the bags again as I carried them to the car, and showing her the car. My DH also spent a little extra time playing with her. She showed less anxiety by a long shot! She fussed and sulked, but didn't show that worried aspect that was leading her to pull out her hair. It is possible that the major concern she had was, whether I was 'roaming on purpose' or whether I gone because I'd been eaten by a coyote (say). This sounds anthropomorphic, but whether the cause is right or not, we got the outcome we hoped for (a calmer cat). I will do the same in the future. We've had animals die here: a cat was killed by an owl, my mare died at 29 two years ago, and my GSD (at 17) three years ago. And we had another dog who went off with DH's daughter to college about that time too. It's not impossible that a smart, attached cat would realize that sometimes a departure is temporary and other times it is forever ... maybe we can teach her that mom really is coming home again, so don't worry (just do mad-spoiled-cat-things, which isn't likely to stop).

Am going to save this post, and continue reading what everyone has been up to! And of course, this is all happening from the Trek desk

Laura, that's great! The Cardio Coach workouts have me sweating like nothing else, except Insanity and sometimes Cathe's HIIT. Just dripping. I like CC3 very much. It's been awhile since those have been on the rotation - next likely time is two weeks from now, when I have a much longer trip involving hotels with gyms ... Sweat is good, cools you down from all that great effort, so be happy :D:D:D Muscle Max is a goodie for getting a nice fast overall body workout. The sauna was well deserved :D

I did 10 pushups on toes today. I'll be ready Mon. to start training for the hundred pushups on toes. I understand that when people are ready for it, it won't be all at once, there will be breathers in-between. I'm also thinking of doing the situps, pullups and the squats. If I find I can't do them because it's to hard or whatever reason, then I will stick to the original plan and just do the pushups on the toes. Can't wait to get started. I'm working the weight workouts on Mon., Wedn. and Fridays, (that Joey and I do together, only gently this time around. like a long warm up), then after that, will train gun hoe with the pushups, situps,... At least that is my plan. :D I'm probably taking to much of a bite, but I'd like to try anyway. Hmmmmm, I hope I won't be disappointed in myself. Shoot, I almost talked myself out of it already.LOL;) Wish me luck.

Shoegal, So sorry too that you lost your post. That is so very frustrating. Great job on the amount you did with Step Mech., abs and yesterdays STS Total Body. Whew! I can see why your back is hurting. Take it easy and glad you are icing your back. Gosh Darn it! You can do 33 pushups on your toes? WOW! I'm so impressed with that. I sure hope one day I can say that. We'll see. Thanks for rooting for me. I need the motivation. Yikes!

Deborah, I think the plan with your kitty is a good one. Keep us posted, the poor thing. I think what it's all about having pets, is to spoil them as rotten as you can. They are worth it, just like our children.:)

Janie

Good Sunday morning all!

Well, I've been babying the knee as much as possible. Feel like I could and should do more on it, BUT, I know better so...I'm not. I did STS 6 legs on Friday, and skipped some of the exercises that I felt would aggravate my knee, such as the plate lunges...they are too unstable, and I don't want to have my leg slide out from under me, and have a bigger injury. All in all, it feels "normal". The knee brace helps, and so does ice.

Yesterday I did STS 7, shoulders, chest and biceps. Feeling it today, but I love it. Later I will tackle a step workout instead of the HiiT thats on my rotation. I will wear my knee brace and be extra careful.

I challenged a co-worker (long distance runner) to the 100 push-ups. I need to check my e-mail to see if she is in. I need to look at the website and read more about the program, but, I think I'm 90% sure I will add this in to my weekly workouts. I don't think I will do the other stuff Janie seems so gung-ho on. I already do extra sit-ups and stength training at karate. But I wish you, Janie, the best of luck with all that. Go for it girl!

Laura, you want to lose 20 pounds? You look so trim and fit!

Hope all our "sickies" are feeling better.

Shadowpup, just spoil that kitty rotten. I definately like your plan, its a good one ;)
