Getting Our Licks In!

Wow! There is a lot going on here, it's hard to know what to say to who.

I did Step Moves this morning, finishing up the first week of meso 1. I really am looking forward to a day without exercise. Putting in a lot of effort and time with my karate, even at home, sure does take it out of me. Thursday, and its been the longest week! My rotation says Step Moves and ab circuits yoga. Don't know if I'll get those abs in or not. I have karate (Leadership training) tonight, and I don't even know if I'll go to that. Its more discussion and lecture then anything else. I'm just plain tired and want to go home after work!

ShadowPup, I understand about the cat. It is difficult to not take in every stray that comes along. But there has to be a line somewhere. Peppy and Tiki are still have some difficulties and often think of trying to find Peppy another home. But deep down, I think they will be able to work it out. At least I hope so, I've gotten attached to Peppy. But Tiki is my special black kitty. A little more time, I think, because, they will play nice together more then they used too. Tiki just needs to be reassured he's my top cat.

Shoegal, I might be the only woman who doesn't give a flying flip about shoes! Sneakers, hikiing shoes, outdoors stuff...well maybe, but as for dress ya' up kinda stuff. Just not me. I don't have ANY high heals, don't want them. Don't have much need for them, could care less. But we all have our "thing" now don't we? You definately make up for what I lack!! LOL

So, I'm at school right now, and should really get back to doing school things...yawn. ttfn

Did Athletic Moves today. Jeesh! It was a head band wringer. Love it. I think I'll start doing pushups on the toes today. One at a time per day and see how far that will get me.

MicheleZ, Don't fret about catching up on personals, sometimes it is a bit much. Just let it slide and say what you want and what you did for the days workout. It's nice to hear from everyone every day, but it's not necessary.:) Great job on the brisk walk yesterday. As you know, DOM's is a good thing. I think your spreadsheet, and plan for subbing DVD's is wonderful. You can't beat Cathe's rotations as a guide line. Well done.

Deborah, Great job on your 2.8 miles. You are gaining there, good for you. Wow! 3 feet of snow? That would make it hard for anything or anyone to walk in. I'm glad it's packed down some so you were out walking with your dogs. Can't imagine have a ride on a horse with deep snow like that. A wonderful experience to say the least. Great job on meso 3 squat racks. It's so nice to see your improvements. You are amazing to keep your quality of life going and improving your strength to your back. Not easy. There is a name for the cross arm position while squating, but it's not coming to me right now. Nice and easy as you are doing will get you results faster. The roller is necessary for me too. Well done. Awe, we are in a same dilemma with animals. It's hard, I know, and you are right.:(

Renee, Great job on Step Moves today. You are doing a lot of work to your body. But, I'm sure you know how much your body can take and will take the necessary precautions to avoid injury. I agree, listen to your body and go home after work and skip the Leadership Training.

Have a really nice day today everyone,

Janie

So, I'm terribly behind with my check-ins. I can't remember the last time I checked in and I've read most of the personals from the past 3 days--so it's been a while. UGH! This ast week I've been doing total body weights one day and then a circuit workout. to Recap: Saturday was STS total body, Sunday was Body Fusion, Monday was Powerhour, Tuesday was Cardio and Weights, Wednesday was Muscle Max, and today was Cardio Core Circuits. Tomorrow will be a light cardio--maybe low impact step.

Busy week at work with two weeks of travel coming up this month. Next week, I go back to Camp Lejeune, then I'm home for a week, and then to New Orleans for the last week of January. Lots to do and not so much time to get it done.

MicheleZ: I like doing Cathe's rotations too. Haven't done one in a while though.

Shadowpup: sounds like you have a ton of snow. All I can say is better in Idaho that Virginia. But, I understand your worry about losing an animal in a snowdrift. That would be awful.

Janie: I believe you did muscle max not too long ago and inspired me to give it a go this week. Thanks!

Laura: I love that at least one of us on this check-in--that would be you--pampers herself with a massage. I haven't done that in a long time. It sounds so good.

Shoegal: the premix that you did from LIC sounds interesting. Have to take a look at that one.

Hi to Elle. And yes, sister, you definitely are not a shoe-hound. But you do have lots of Under Armour shirts!

~michelle

Just a quick post today. Yesterday i did one of the preset workouts on Shiva Rea's Daily Energy. I have never been a fan of pushups and there were a lot of them in that routine. It's been good getting in more variety into my yoga practice with these Shiva Rea DVD's.

Quick reply to Elle this morning....first of all, you are doing great with your weight lose! Does that say 19.6 pounds?!?! good for you!

Push ups! Lots of women don't like those things. In my karate class, one of the fitness requirements for 1st degree black belt is 60-80 push ups in two minutes. Wee! I'm working on it, but I have a ways to go. Same with sit-ups, but I could definately do that now. Thank goodness I'm still a year and a half of training away.

gotta run...

~Renee

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

On Wednesday I did Step Mechanics - yes - AGAIN. I had a complete mental block on combo one and was about to pull out the dvd and hurl it across the room - I was so frustrated. I thought of Eliza on the ski slopes - I can see why she was angry with herself. I had done this and got it before but I couldn't do this little cha cha cha across the step - I was seeing red :mad::mad: - finally at the end of my workout I just kept practicing & practicing and practicing until I mastered it. Thank God.

Yesterday I did the Lower body premix only from High Reps - it was such a blast that I despaired that I didn't do the whole thing. l just love the sliding disc exercises.

I put away all my Christmas dishes last night and put my table settings back in storage. I need to put all my decorations away this weekend before I break something else. :(:mad::mad: And it is definitely time. Plus I need to think about decorating for Valentine's Day.:rolleyes:

Krista is becoming a holy terror - she has come into her own and is taking over. Last night she took my DH's fur hat out of the vestibule and began taking it apart. When we first brought her home she wouldn't eat treats or touch the toys - now she can destroy a toy in a minute and isn't afraid to dive for food. But overall such a sweet girl - I just love her.

Off to start my day - glad to hear from Michelle. Bye for now.

Well, the last of the Christmas holiday decorations came down today - the weather cooperated so we were able to get the lights off of the outdoor trees. They had been completely covered with snow. Very pretty, but impossible to remove! I'd put up three small strands of solar lights, and then my DH made some modifications to our outdoor electrical situation so that we could decorate three of the tall conifers near our deck, and do a small display of lit horses grazing. Very pretty and I'm sorry to see them go. Still, it's a good feeling to have that done and packed away.

Our other big news: Clara has purchased her first car! All appearances are good: it is a well used and well cared for Subaru that was last owned by the daughter of a local car mechanic who specializes in those. He'd fixed it up for his daughter, but just gave her a replacement that he'd rebuilt, so this one needed a home. It's in excellent shape, he threw in a lot of extras, and the car is old enough/high miles enough that it is affordable and insurable. And, perhaps best of all, Clara's dad helped her out in finding it, making sure it is a good one, and with some of the cost. I was so much hoping that this accident would help the two of them begin to get a father-adult daughter relationship going, and (cautious optimism), this may be exactly what is happening. The dad also helped drive her to/from work. He is so proud of how his daughter is growing up, and DH and I are gently, gently, gently helping Clara to see that.

Shoegal, the decorating we do for Valentines day normally consists of leaving each other *chocolate* in various hiding places!!!! Glad you got the step combo worked out. Funny how it can be, sometimes, when you *know* it ought to be possible, even reasonably easy, yet a move doesn't seem to come??? That used to happen to me when I was taking jujitsu, long time back, not with step - nothing comes well to me in step :rolleyes::mad::eek::eek: Krista sounds like a handful indeed! How long do you think you'll have her?

Michelle, welcome back! Those are excellent workouts :) I don't mind the snow during holidays, but ... next week I will be offsite again. I'll be out to DC very briefly at the end of the month, too. Real life starts again, sigh ....

Renee, good target on those toe pushups! Maybe I should join you, and we could encourage one another? I was able to do that many when I did Jari Love regularly awhile back, and then last year for a bit, but am now finding a dozen to be enough challenge. Much work to do building back up.

Elle, echoing Renee, wow! Great job on handling the holiday-eating-season. Glad you are enjoying your new dvds.

Hi to Janie, Laura, MicheleZ, and IronLady if she's around!

Hi Sisters in Iron!

Yesterday I ended taking off as I was so sore pretty much everywhere from my Wed. class! Today I did MMA: Fussion in the morning, it has been awhile since I did that one, it sure is fun! I didn't have to modify any of the moves which was awesome! Than in the afternoon I went to the Rec Center and did 93% of STS total body. I really like that workout! I didn't do the band bonuses because they didn't have a band there or the last set of back Slide Lunges because it didn't feel good at all on my right groin and didn't want to push it! Then I went ice skating for a couple of hours with the kids and some friends.

What do you guys think of the new Workout Manager? I really should just get the nutrition package so I only have to log in on one site!

back latter for personals (I hope) I am at a friends and need to be social with her!

Joey and I did Upper and Lower Body Sculpt, and Stability Ball abs, (from Basic Step + Body Fusion DVD), plus I did 25 min. jumping and watching TV on the trampoline. Oh, and 2 push ups on the toes. Whew! It was a good exercise day.

Waited to late to do much posting, but will play catch up tomorrow, or is that today?

Talk with all later, have a good one.

Janie

I'm taking care of one of my grandsons, Adrian. What a doll baby he is. I have him until tomorrow night. Don't know if I will have time for a cardio today or not.

Michelle, You are doing really well with your exercise plan and I see working very hard as usual at it. Good for you. It's nice to see you posting again, I missed you. Life has a way of being so busy sometimes. Don't worry about it. Post when you have time. (((Hugs))). You'll get it all done. I love MM, one of my favorite full body workouts.

Elle, Great job on the preset of Shiva Rea. I do really like her routines. Well done. Renee pointed out your weight loss. That's wonderful, congratulations on that. You must be very pleased.

Shoegal, I still get messed up with step routines sometimes, but as you do, just keep at it until you get it. That's what I do too. Very proud of you not giving up. Great job on LB premix from HR. Oh, that's right Valentines is coming up really fast as well. Wow, time goes by so quickly. Krista sounds like a playful lady. Glad you love her, she deserves. ((Hugs to you)).

Deborah, It's always nice to finely get the decorations backed up and have fond memories of it. I would have loved to seen your decorations, I bet it was very pretty. Clara with a car, she is really blooming isn't she? Sometime, as you are doing, interceding a relationship gently is all it takes. Keep up posted OK? I would love to see a healthy daughter and father relationship between these two.

Laura, Great job on MM Fusion, I like that one too. I still have to modify just a little bit. And a great job as well on STS Total Body. Bet you had a ball ice skating with the friends and family. I'm loving the Workout Manager so far.

Have a good day everyone,

Janie

Yesterday, I took the day off. My body needed the rest. I'm giving Cathe's January rotation a try. Today was double wave pyramid. Short, sweet, sweaty, but done. Yeah!

Had a little snow here this morning. It wasn't much snow, but it was slick out there. Walking Ripken this morning, we heard lots of sirens which means there were lots of accidents going on. Snow is all gone now but I think we are supposed to maybe get a little more. Regradless, the wind is blowing and it is cold, for sure.

Shadowpup: it sounds like Clara may be turning a corner with her parents. Things sound hopeful but I would imagine she has some strong feelings of abandonment and rejection going on. Can't blame her for that, if she does. But she also sounds like a resilient young person. Bless you and your DH for being such good people and helping her get through all this.

Shoegal: sounds like your foster pup is very comfortable in her new home. I'll be interested in hearing how ya'll get her not to be destructive. My DH has taken to watching the Dog Whisperer. I'd heard about the show but never watched it until last night. Interesting program.

Janie: if you are taking care of your grandson, I imagine you are getting your cardio in, maybe not the way you normally do, though.

Laura: I noticed that the workout manager has changed but haven't really taken a good look at it. I usually find that the changes that Chris and the crew make to the website are pretty good. Have to go check it out when I finish my post.

Elle: good for you; you've lost almost 20 pounds. That's fantastic. I haven't done my Shiva Rea yoga dvd since we put the boat up for the winter. Maybe this week on my rest day....

Hello to sister, MicheleZ, and Ironlady.

Hello to everyone! Didn't workout yesterday, probably not today either as I am taking Grady to agility class and then have the tail end of a project I need to complete for work before tomorrow. I did get in a good workout on Thursday (Intensity - cardio only, STS upper body only) and Friday (BB-KPC, STS lower body only). Still working on my form - pulled a mirror out and put it in the room so I could see myself during lunges, etc. I def. need to concentrate on keeping my back straight during lunges. I think at this point, I simply don't have the required strength to go down very far and keep good form. Baby steps, baby steps. On the other hand, I am finding I am able to modify a bit less than in the beginning on cardio work.

We are supppose to get up to 9 inches of snow by tomorrow evening. Grady LOVES the snow - likes to bury his beard in it and snort, etc. He makes me laugh till I cry when he plays in the snow. We were thinking about trying to move to a warmer climate (like Texas) - if that happens, I think he will miss the snow.

Workout Manager - for some reason I can't get the Nutrition page to close when I hit the close button - the Esc button doesn't work either so I have to close the entire tab....slightly annoying  Still enjoying the Nutrition Sofware. I was one of those kids that liked to see As on my report card so this program works for me :p.

Hope everyone has a great Sunday! Make sure you have some fun today and laugh a bit - otherwise what's the point? ;)

Greetings and Salutations!

Its the weekend...ah. Yesterday was STS disc 4, chest, shoulders and biceps. Plus I went to Sparring class at Karate. Became very frustrated since the instructor talked way too much...not enough action/practice for my liking. It wasn't the senior master, so, with that in mind I'll let it slide this time. Should it happen again, I may have to say something in a constructive way.

Today I did HiiT 40/20 and STS disc 5, back and triceps. Tomorrow is a long day with karate late, so I double up on Sundays. Its sparring week in regular karate class, so I hope it makes up for an icky Saturday sparring class.

MicheleZ, I think you are doing great! It takes time to build up strength, good form and endurance. I've been going strong with Cathe, (thanks to sister, Michelle) since 2008. At that time I could barely get thru Basic Step without looking like I just got out of a swimming pool. Now thats my "light and easy" workout. I've always had strength, but working out with Cathe just makes you stronger. It will come, trust me. I see how strength is working in my favor in karate. I may not be the most flexible but I do have the power!! Which I love, cuz I just wanna kick a$$! LOL :D

Looks like central Virginia is in line for an ice/snow storm Monday night. Time will tell, but the weatherpeople have been pretty spot on lately. Wow, and tomorrow is the 10th already. Time flies doesn't it?? Come on Spring!!

Keep working hard everybody!

Last day of caring for Adrian. No workouts planned today. However, I did 4 push ups on toes.

Michelle, Great job on Double Wave Pyramid and walking Ripken. Try to stay safe and warm in weather like that.

MicheleZ, Agility class sounds interesting for Grady. Great job on Thrus. and Fri. workouts. I love how you keep to your form. That is so very important. I need to concentrate more on that as well. You are improving if you find you are modifying less. Good for you! I think Grady would miss the snow too if you moved to Tex.:(

Renee, Your Greeting and salutations remind me of Charlotte's Web. It's cute.:) Great job on Chest, Shoulders and Biceps and Sparing class. Also on Hiit 40/20 today, wow, and disc 5 back and triceps. Stay warm and safe with that snow coming.

Take care everyone,

Janie

The annual Glassboro roadtrip is at the end of July. YEAH! Okay--so who's going to register this year? Sister, Shoegal? Anyone else feel like coming east for the exercise blitz? I have a friend in Stafford who is interested in going this year as well. I've got to get her on the Cathe forum first. I figure I will get her cornered on that at the end of the month when we are in New Orleans. She is married to one of the Marines with whom I work and she is supposed to be coming to NOLA when we have our conference there at the end of the month.

Today it is very cold. Ripken and I just came back from our late afternoon walk and I think it was colder than it was this morning. Of course, the wind is blowing pretty good and it was calm this morning. This morning I did Low Impact Step (40 minutes of cardio) plus ab circuits weights and plates. I think this is one of Cathe's most challenging ab workouts--particularly the plate section.

Janie: 4 push ups on toes is good. I find that my back starts hurting after about 8 consecutuve toe push-ups. I don't know if it is because of my form or I just need to build my core/lower back strength. Maybe Shadowpup might have some insights on that issue.

MicheleZ: I love to watch our neighborhood dogs play in the snow too. Ripken would stay out playing way longer than he should if I allowed it. Fortunately, we haven't had much snow this year; although that could change come this week. I've been playing around with the new workout manager and I'm feeling like I must be missing some trick on getting it to add up my cumulative calories burned for the week. When in doubt, it's always good to ask SNM a question. They are always good about answering and helping out.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.
Hi to Shadowpup, Elle, Shoegal, Laura, and Sister.

Hello everyone out there -

It is sooooo COLD here!!! This morning it was 8 degrees - BRRRRR!!! We had snow - which is nice but everyone here is frozen - well, can't speak for everyone - I am.

I took my Big tree in the living room down and my little pencil tree upstairs - and put a couple of other items away - but there is so much more to go. I had limited time on Saturday because I had to go into Pittsburgh for the Sarah Mclachlan concert. I LOVE Sarah - anybody else? Her voice is too perfect and she was fabulous as always. We tried to go to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner - but geeze it was so crowded there was a 1 hr&45 min wait. We left and went to a small pizza bar for dinner and had a great time. Overall the evening was wonderful. I stayed in Pittsburgh overnight and I went out shopping/lunch with Mom and sisters on Sunday.

I think I will try Step Mechanics again this evening - this time attempting for more complicated choreography - I'm afraid this workout will be on my radar for another week while I get it all down. :p I'll be doing strength workouts in between.

Michelle - well, don't know about the road trip - I am greatly intrigued but I have very limited vacation time and DH is trying to schedule a little NY snowmobiling trip too this year - I'm definitely interested!!! Are you going to try to attend??

Janie - sounds like you had fun watching your grandson - were you able to get your workout in???

Shadowpup - exciting things are happening for Clara - I'm glad things are moving along nicely for her - I do hope she is able to mend fences with her father. My Valentines decorating is limited as well - there isn't very much - but I do put out a garden flag - just bought one over the weekend.

Laura - I haven't looked very hard at the workout manager - I meant too - I see to have such limited time to do anything anymore. Right now I'm just very eager to get all the Christmas put away. Did you get your Jackie Warner videos? I want hear how you like them - I looked her up and she seemed interesting.

Hi to Elle - who is your favorite yoga instructor on video? You seem to be experimenting with Shiva Rea - but is she your favorite?

Hello to Michelle Z & Renee.

Hi everyone. I'm dealing with a head-cold this week. Ick. It's more annoying than anything else at this point. I'm trying to get plenty of rest so I don't wear myself out. Slept in an extra hour this morning, then got up, walked the pup (and yes, it was cold here too but not as cold as Pittsburgh). Then I did STS total body. Felt pretty good. Had to blow my nose alot, but other than that my cold did not slow me down on the workout. I'm determined to not let this thing get the best of me.

I think I can speak for sister with regards to the Glassboro roadtrip. I am pretty sure that we are going to try to go again. We've talked about it on a theoretical basis but not since I noticed that the date is posted on the roadtrip thread.

Hope everyone is having a great week. I will be in North Carolina for the rest of the week, but will be checking in.
~michelle

Mammogram went well, as far as mammograms goes. Will know results in about two week, not worried. Did 5 pushups on toes. At some point I will have to do them every other day, but so far I'll do one extra one per day. It was Just as hard as yesterday. No workouts today, Joey wants to watch football tonight. We will do weight workouts two days in a roll to make up for tonight.

Shoegal, 8 degrees is soooooo cold. I don't envy you at all. I went to The Cheese Cake factory once, my son in Vegas, treated me. He a good son. Sounds like you enjoyed the evening in spite of not going to the Factory. It's always nice to spend time with family. Glad you did that. Weren't able to get the workouts in, will make up for it tomorrow and Wednesday.

Michelle, Have fun in N. Carolina. Awe head colds are not fun. Drink lots of liquids and it does sound like you are trying to get some rest. Good for you. Great job on STS Total Body. Sounds like to much fun going on another road trip. Yeah!

Have a good evening everyone,

Janie

Super Duper quick check in
