Getting Our Licks In!

Will be walking Rolly in the rain today. looks like it will be that way all day. It will be good for Rolly. Did Push and Pull today and was very sweaty afterwords.

Renee, Congratulations on the gains you made with STS Meso 2. What will you do for the active recovery week? Sounds like Karate could save your life one day, you never know. Nice to know all those techniques. Competing, Wow! I love hearing stories like this from you.

I bet your kids are soooooo excited about the stage. I can just envision their little faces. Sweet.;)

Michelle, Great job on DWP. Are you home from traveling yet? Get some rest.

Laura, Congratulations on teaching all of your classes this week. And I'm so glad that finely your knee is better. Thank goodness! It should heal up soon now. Favor it until then.

Great job on the GS exercises.

Got back home last night. Did stretches 1 and 3 from Stretch Max yesterday morning. It was a long day. Meetings in the morning. Travelling back in the afternoon. Got home a little after 9 pm. It's good to be home with my boys.

Slept in a little this morning, then took Ripken for his walkabout. He wanted to walk in our Circle, so that's what we did. About 3/4 of the way through our first time around the circle, my neighbor Ellen stuck her head out her front door and called us over. Their yellow lab, Bogie, who is Ripken's best dog buddy, has not been doing very well and this morning he was just not moving from his bed. Bogie is about 13 or 14 years old and his body just has been slowing giving out the past month or so. Ripken and I spent some time visiting with Bogie and then we went home. I did STS disc 19 and then headed back up to Ellen's house to sit with her and Bogie Buddy. Tom, her teenage son, came home from school about mid-morning and they took Bogie into the vet where he made his final journey to the Rainbow Bridge. God bless our sweet Bogie Buddy--he was Ripken's best dog buddy and my other sweet pup.

Got home from walking Rolly, and the first thing he did was poo in the house at his favorite spot. After I rubbed his nose in it (sort of speak) I feathered spanked him and sent him out the dogie door. He immediately went poo. Had to praise him when he came in and gave him a treat. He has lost his privileges of so much free time off the leash though. What am I doing wrong? He really isn't a dumb dogie, he is very smart. All Joey and I can figure is that he was most likely allowed to pee and poo on paper in the house and by the bathroom. I love him dearly, we will figure this out and be consistent in our training. Any ideas?

Michelle
, I'm glad you are back home. Great job on those stretches.

O, I'm so sorry about Bogie, What a sad sad story. I don't know why it effected me the way it did, but I'm crying my eyes out here. I'm sure he will be truly missed. Even I will miss him. :( Poor Ripken. I had a little miniature Yorky once named Bogie. Fond memories.

Another beautiful day here in the mid-Atlantic. Ripken and I have taken too wonderful walks and then I did MMA Kickbox. Right now Ripken is napping, Joe and I are watching the VaTech football game.

Laura: Double Wave Pyramid is on the HIIT dvd. Sounds like your knee has finally turned the corner and you are mending well. YEAH!

Janie: Thanks for sharing in the tears with regards to Bogie Buddy. I know that Ripken is going to miss him something terrible. Bogie really was Ripken's first dog buddy when Ripken was just a pup. Bogie was about 4 years older but they always got along great. Bogie has stayed with us many times when his family went on a trip and couldn't take him with them. I think he spent at least 3, maybe 4, Christmases with us and I have some great pictures of Ripken and Bogie under the Christmas tree. I think I will get one of the pictures framed for the Brandons. I don't know what to say about this set back with Rolly on his housebreaking. I think you are just going to have to be consistent with him and at some point he will get with the program. Don't dispair--you are a great dog mommy and Rolly will learn, it just may be later than sooner.

Talked to sister earlier. She is watching the VaTech game as well. She says that dad is loving his new IPad

Hope everyone is enjoying a great weekend. We should be hearing from our Shoegal soon--shouldn't she be back from her cruise this weekend?
~michelle

Rest day today, but I did walk Rolly in full rain today. He tipped toed through it. Poor little guy. When he came in from the rain, he ran and leaned/rubbed against all over the place trying to dry off. LOL

I'll be taking a trip to our houseboat in less than a couple of weeks. Utah will be just abut 80 degrees in the middle of the days at that time. Joey and I usually go at this time of year to look for agates, dinosaur bone, unusual things and petrified wood. It really looks great in our yard.

Michelle, My Joey is watching baseball. I'm not into all that sport, but he's sitting there with his popcorn and feeding Rolly too. It's cute.

I didn't realize that Ripken is a Senior. He acts more like a pup. LOL That picture would be so nice to give your friend.

You're right about Rolly, patience and consistency.

Good morning all! Lots to catch up on here, I can see. I'm home for a few days and then off on Wednesday or so. This weekend has been a combination of college activities/visits (with Clara), getting work caught up (being off for a few days is always difficult), and getting those bulbs in (up side, all that rain made the ground nice and soft - down side, the weather stopped me cold at about 13000 bulbs, so there are quite a few to do).

Will try and post later: the weather is iffy, so I'll be going outside with shovel and a sack if it's nice! Cross fingers for me :D

My active recovery week...ahh! I did timesaver cardio from BodyMax 2 yesterday and cardio only from Low Impact Circuit. I love those, the music is so much fun, as is the step routines themselves.

Yesterday I went to my first karate sparring class. Boy, is there a lot to learn! Nothing like getting punched in the head by a 2nd degree black belt. No, I'm not kidding. There were only 4 in the class...two kids and two adults, me and this 6 foot 2, 220 pounds at least, 2nd degree black belt guy. Oh, lucky me. I actually did learn some stuff and never went down, but I did get whacked pretty good. I got a few good ones in, but not nearly enough! LOL I asked Master Ally how sparring works in a tournament. He said, same color belt, same gender, and same age category. I breathed a sigh of relief on that one! ROFL. Boy, if it wasn't that, I don't know if I'd participate. I do not want to be a black belts punching bag!

So, I'm getting ready for my first tournament in November. I'll be doing Universal 2 and 3, breaking boards, and sparring. Yep, just lets say, the training intensity has increased. I don't have to win, but I refuse to come in last!!!!

Yeah, Janie, I got all choked up after reading Michelle's post on Bogie too. Sad.

My Mom and I went to see my neice's band competition last night. They came in first! Very good music, marching and presentation. Blew the other bands away!

Goals are the fuel in the furnace of achievement.

Another beautiful weather day. What can I say--we are blessed in the mid-Atlantic right now with sunshine, a nice breeze, and low humidity. Ripken and I had two walks this morning and then I did the standing glute and ab timesaver from Butts and Guts. I really do like that dvd.

Janie: yes, Ripken is 9 1/2 years old but he still has his pup moments. I think that's just his breed--golden retrievers are such clowns and they never really outgrow it. And everything makes Ripken happy. Of course, he lives the life of Ripken, so what does he have to be unhappy about? Rolly is such a little dog, you could easily towel him off after his walk in the rain. I bet he would really enjoy that extra attention--it might even make the walk more bearable in his doggy mind. My Joe and I are not much on baseball--but we can waste alot of time watching football. Now sister, she likes baseball and football.

Sister: talked to mom this morning and she told me about the marching band competition. Sounds like JF did pretty good. I hope that Chelsea is enjoying band this year; I know last year she was a bit distracted.

Shadowpup: nice to have you back for a few days. I wasn't sure if you were on travel or not. What colleges did ya'll go visit? Is Clara staying in-state or looking at out-of-state colleges as well? Yesterday was SAT day in Stafford County and I know a few parents who had kids sitting the tests. THAT is something I definitely do not miss. Hope you get the rest of those bulbs in the ground. Don't forget the children--is it too wet to ride?

Hi to Laura, Elle, and Shoegal.
~michelle

Went to a play and saw Taming of the Shrew. It was a lot of fun and they did it Western style. Very funny.

Deborah, If I could help with the bulbs, you know I would. Will your hubby help? Next break in the clouds and you can get to work again. Fingers, legs and toes and eyes are crossed.:D

Renee, Great job on your cardios. I love them too. EWWWW. I don't think I would like being whacked at all!!! Karate class or not. Good luck in your Tournament in Nov. Sounds like a lot of fun.

Michelle, Great job on standing glutes and abs. Butts and Guts is one of my favorites too. It's hard work. I'd towel off Rolly after the rain walk if I could catch him! He has a mind of his own how he wants to be dried off. LOL:eek:

Take care everyone,

Janie

Hello - here I am back again after the cruise. Bad weather - "partly cloudy with a chance of rain" predominantly - and it would definitely rain. Nice big, beautiful ship however - with ok food. Got sick (a nasty virus) in the beginning and had to deal with it - but things cleared up eventually and I was fine. We missed some of the stops on the cruise because of weather - didn't even pull into St Kitts because of high swells - saw only the port at Barbados because most of the roads had become impassable because of the heavy rain they had been having and that was nothing to see. Had a great time on St Luscia and Princess Cays (the cruiseline's private "island") - last two days were sunny. Saw some great shows, however - ran around the track on the ship - tried to walk the decks but there wasn't one that allowed us to go all the way around, met some really nice people and drank some super good Cosmos too. I got a rather expensive pedicure at their spa but was glad to get home to my girls. Oh - we really missed them.

So ate poorly - really wanted french fries in a big way and also had one or more drinks most days and got tired of that. I didn't try go to the gym there or try their classes. From experience the classes are generally very very easy to accomodate the people who decide to try exercising during their cruise - so I skipped those. Ran and walked most days - and that was actually a lot of fun for me since Rex came along. The track was super small though - 16 times around equaled one mile.

Last night we went to a neighbor's house for a little gathering. I have to admire Kristen's entertaining style - when Rex and I arrived, her husband, Tim said he didn't know where she was and wasn't sure what was going on. Ok - eventually she comes back and said that more people would be over. They were going to "deep fry" a whole bunch of stuff. So there was no food put out and mostly everyone brought what they wanted to drink. We brought some cookies and other people brought some other food - but eventually the whole thing came together and we all had a great time. But who "deep fries" anymore? I also think a "party" like this on a Sunday evening - well - it is questionable. We had to get up and go to work the next day so we left by nine.

Some "happenings" with my job though that has me wondering about quitting. There could definitely be a non negotiable development that would force me to work under accounting and I think I don't think I can accept that. I'm trying to keep an open mind about it though. I'll have to discuss this with the owner here and see what can be done and I'm not looking forward to it.

Read most posts - glad to be back. Hope everyone is doing well!!!

Walked Rolly 45 min. and did MM. Joey's gone to Wyoming to pick up radio and then to Utah. I may not go to Utah this year. I have too much to do.

Shoegal, Despite the rain, it sounds like you had a good time. It is always nice to get back home. Yeah! Good to have you back too. I hope you get your job figured out and make the best choice for you. It does sound a little odd having a party on Sunday.

take care,

Janie

Hi Ladies,
Yesterday was Thanksgiving so my weekend was very busy with family dinners. :)

My yoga classes were beneficial to me as well as the students this weekend. I taught the beginners how to do Sun Salutations. I also incorporated a lot of challenging asanas into the advanced class. This required me to do a lot of demonstrations, particularly the "yoga pushup" in the Sun Salutation since a lot of beginners usually have trouble with that part. I got in lots of pushups during the two beginners classes and i could feel it the next day.:)

Everything is going well but i've been really busy so i haven't had a lot of time to visit the forums. I will catch up on posts when i can.

Have a great day,
Elle

Didn't get a chance to post yesterday. Did stretch max, stretches 1 and 3, and Ripken and I had some great walkabouts. This morning it was back to the routine: Rip's long walk then STS disc 20, legs. I am always so happy when those leg workouts are done for the week. They really make you work.

Shoegal: welcome back. The cruise sounds like it was a mix bag, but you had fun, right? I don't know who fries anything anymore. I tried begneits (sp?) for the first (and last) time in New Orleans last week. Ick. If someone had told me that they are fried dough with lots of powdered sugar and pretty much like funnel cakes, I would have passed. But at least now, I can say that I've tried them and they are not my thing. The gumbo in New Orleans is great though. Yum-yum. Sorry to hear about the potential pending changes at work. I don't know about you but I hate change. I'm a real creature of habit, but sometimes at work "change" ends up being like fairy dust. I hope it works out for you.

Elle: oops, forgot to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving. Hope you had a great day. I've been doing cathe stretches instead of yoga the past couple of weeks--but I'll get back to the yoga. How often do you teach yoga? You seem to do quite a few classes.

Janie: muscle max sounds like fun. I'm getting to that point in STS where I'm looking forward to doing some of cathe's other weight-lifting workouts. But I'm hanging with it. Should be done with the go-round by the end of November. Should have cathe's new workouts by then, don't you think?

Hi to Laura, Shadowpup, and sister.
~michelle

Have insomnia. Earlier today (or is that yesterday?) walked Rolly and did Athletic Moves.

Elle, Your yoga classes sound like so much fun. Wish I could be in one of them. Sounds like you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. It's always nice to be with family during those times.

Michelle, Great job on Stretch Max and walking with Ripken. Also STS legs. Ouch! I'm with you, like to get them over with asap. Well done!

I can't wait for Cathe's new DVD's to get here!

Have a good one,

Janie

Good morning everyone. Ripken and I had a very pleasant walkabout this morning and then I did the 4DS double cardio premix. I'm much better on the first half of this step workout which is LIS; I still have some issues getting through HIS. I also find that my legs pretty much feel like lead the day after my STS legs workout. Guess I need to spend a little more time with this routine. I may do it again on Friday, although I'm also thinking about All Step for my Friday cardio.

We are having a baby shower at lunch for one of our junior analysts. She and her husband are expecting their first baby (a boy) in early December. Should be a fun time.

Janie: ick, insomnia. Wonder why? Have you got something on your mind that's keeping you up? Maybe you are just missing Joey. Can't believe you were able to get through AS on no sleep--I don't think I could do that. Try to get a nap today.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Hello!

Monday I did Amy Bento's ASC4 AGAIN!! This time a quicker premix she had on there - OMG it is even funner than I remembered - I love this workout. Definitely, one of my better fitness purchases. For a second I thought - Good Lord this is SO MUCH FUN - Rex has to see this part of the routine. Then I thought - well - that's a mistake! I've made this mistake before and I always regret it. So - I didn't show him - told him about it though.

Yesterday unfortunately, my DH had to work way late so I went out shopping while I waited and ran into my sister!!!!! So I had dinner with them and had Rex meet up with us later when he finished up. So I had a rather pleasant evening - but did not get to work out though.

Elle - I did realize it was Canada's Thanksgiving when Rex mentioned it to me on Monday. My reaction was, "Canada has a Thanksgiving???!?!?" It was actually on our Columbus Day. I wanted to ask about it - I think I'll look it up too. Same stuff happen there? But I wanted to wish you Happy Thanksgiving and forgot.

Michelle - I hate change too - major changes happening here at work though and I'm dreading what it will do but I'm prepared to leave. I agree - not a funnel cake fan but everyone seems to go crazy over fired dough in any form. Just typing it I'm thinking - YUK!! Good job on your workout - you know - legs are always tough!

Janie - no sleeping either - I seem to sleep less and less these days. Last night - Rex stomped upstairs to bed where I was already sleeping, turned on the light and messed with the covers. I got up angry and went downstairs to sleep peacefully on the couch - except I never really did fall asleep though. I hope you drift off today to make up for lost sleep.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Well, my active recovery week is going by way too fast! Yesterday was a classic...Step Heat and today was Low Impact Step. Fun, fun, fun.

There have been a lot of new people in karate lately. Even adult women, which is always nice, when one needs a partner. Beats having a 2nd degree black belt male as your partner! LOL...But this will be short lived, because in two short weeks, I will no longer be in these "beginner" classes. I will soon be a green belt and an intermediate student. Which means different days and times for classes. Ah, the winds of change.

My fourth graders are rehearsing for their big program Monday. The music part is going great, the memorization of parts...uh, not so great. But they usually step up to the plate and do a good job. With 4th grade program nearly done, I am now getting ready for my 2nd grade program for the holidays. Willl start teaching that after Halloween. There's never a dull moment.

Just got in from teaching another beginner's class (more sun salutations!). I'm so glad to be home since it felt like a really long day.

Yesterday i went to my WW meeting even though i was sure i had gained weight. I'm glad i went and it turns out i lost 0.4lbs despite attending two Thanksgiving dinners and eating a lot of food.:)

Shoegal: I think our Thanksgiving is pretty similar to the US version but we always have ours the second week in October (i think:confused:). We usually have a traditional turkey dinner and i always have to have pumpkin pie although i know a lot of people don't like it.

Michelle: Enjoy the Baby Shower!

Janie: Insomnia!:( I hope you are able to get some good rest soon!

Hi to everyone else! Hope you are all having a great week. Catch ya later!

Walked Rolly after he got his vaccine shots today. We went about an hour.

Michelle, Great job on walking and 4DS DC premix. When I eat organic things are so much better all around. I haven't been eating like I'm suppose to, now I know why. I do miss my Joey though.

Shoegal, I don't have Amy's ASC4. Going to have to purchase it just so I can see what you liked so much. I can't wait! I love her anyway so it will be well worth it.

Renee, Great job on your active recovery.

Elle, Home sweet home, there is nothing like it! Great job on your teaching class. So glad you lost some weight and after Thanksgiving too. Wow, good for you.

Take care,

Janie

Hello again -

Wednesday I did S&H bis & tris - yes, very very slow. Should have finished this up before I left for the trip but didn't get to it when I still needed to pack so I completed the series Wednesday night. This I felt was a little less boring - still very slow but I really felt it which was a good thing. I felt like my muscles were crying out - "let me work, let me work!!!" So I let them. Thursday (last night) I had a VHS tape sitting out - The Firm - Total Body Sculpt led by Stephanie Huckabee. The fact that it was sitting out (for what reason I couldn't imagine) was the reason I did it plus it had been quite awhile. I'm not in love with this workout or the instructor at all - it is kind of like milktoast. I was sweating - and I got through it - so I was happy with that.

Having dinner with my two sisters and a friend tonight - without my husband. During the cruise we were together 24/7 and since then too  - I think we need a bit of time apart - so he isn't coming. Just us girls - looking forward to it!!

Anybody have any plans this weekend??? I decided I would clean (I know - big plans) but in the coming weeks I am having a party - no big bonfire, like I usually do with family - this time I decided to have a little get together with just local neighbors. I think this will make it less crazy.

Hope you all have a great weekend - hope to hear from all of you!!!
