Getting Our Licks In!

Good morning all! Just stopping in briefly to let you know I'm home :) A busy weekend of gardening is continuing, and looks like much has happened that I need to read about.

Happy almost-birthday, Renee!

Yes, sister has a birthday coming up in a few days. I was going to assist with the purchase of her new 30 pound dumbbells but that is a done deal on her end now, so I've got to think of something else.

Today was yoga day. I almost didn't do, but I'm glad I did. We are having great weather here in southern Maryland. The boat next to us on the t-head has a female coon hound aboard. Her name is Daisy and she is just as sweet as she can be. The boat has a big layout area with a cushion in the stern and this is where Daisy is perched from morning till night. There has been a great breeze blowing all weekend and the pup looks like she is in seventh heaven. My pup also is in seventh heaven--laying by my feet in the nice air conditioned salon. We've had some great walkabouts this weekend. He is loving the slightly cooler weather. Much more to the liking of my golden boy.

Tomorrow, I most likely will head over the bridge to run a few errands. I have to get the Walmart pharmacy in Lexington to fill Joe's Chantix script. His gone a little over 2 weeks without a cigarette. I think the fear of dying has finally overcome the love of the cigarette.

I'm not sure, but I think dinner tonight is leftover lobster from Friday night. Listened to REO Speedwagon and Pat Benatar in concert on Friday night from the stern of our boat. That was great. Pat Benatar can still belt out the tunes.

Top of the evening to everyone.

After a crazy busy week at work i have been enjoying an extended long weekend here. It has been very cool and lots of rain followed by periods of sun. Feels more like Thanksgiving weekend than Labour day!

I took off Friday and spent the afternoon at one of my brother's. He was at work but i had lunch with my SIL and got to spend time playing with my three nephews ages 4, 6, and 9. I took the oldest one out to pick out a belated birthday gift since they were away for his birthday. He picked out a game for his DS and a transformer. We also got some pop rocks for his brothers and they were a hit, especially with the little one. When we got back to the house we played wii with his brothers.

Saturday was busy. I taught yoga in the morning. In the afternoon i went to check out furniture. I need a new couch so we went to La-z-boy to try out some recliners. They are so comfy! I think i know what i want so i have to save up some $$$.

After that i decided to go to "Little India". In Toronto there are certain ethnic regions. Gerrard St is where you find Indian stores and restaurants. I wanted to replace a yoga book that i lost so I went to a little shop i know that sells all sorts of hindu things and books from India that aren't available everywhere. I got my book and stocked up on some incense as well.:)

On the way home i stopped at a middle eastern grocery store i've been meaning to check out. I'm glad i did! I bought fresh dates from Iran and Haloumi cheese imported from Cyprus (which is where my Dad was from). They have an amazing bakery with all sorts of cakes, cookies, baklava, and other middle eastern treats. I will definitely be returning there!

I stayed home in the evening. I did some yoga and then watched a movie.

Yesterday, I stayed home. I did some cleaning, reading, and did Shiva Rea's flow yoga for beginners. I decided to switch up the order and did the relaxing flow after the vinyasa on the beach which i liked better than the order they appear on the DVD.

Enjoying my last day off before work tomorrow.

Laura: Glad you are letting yourself heal. So sorry to hear about your firend's tragic accident.

Shoegal: That is a shocking and tragic thing to happen to someone close to your family. I guess we never can really know what is going on in someone's else's life.

My deepest sympathy to both of you.

Adrian was such a perfect little baby. Such a pleasure to babysit. I had all weekend to play with him and now it's time for more serious workouts.

Today was disc 7, Chest, shoulders and biceps. Rainy today, no walking little Rolly. :( I'm going to try him on the treadmill tonight sometime.

I've read all the posts and am caught up. You all are doing really well with the workouts, shopping, and dealing/coping with sadness.

Life has a way of circulating all those emotions. With our pursued workouts we are more able (I believe) in arming and defending ourselves. Eat clean and watch out for the portions. You all are so worth it. Love ya guys.

Happy Labor Day everyone. Another sweet day here in the mid-Atlantic. Ripken and I have had two great walks this morning and then I did travel fit. I think I'm going to buy a pair of 8 or 10 pound dumbbells for the boat. Right now all I have is a 5 pound pair and I think I'd like something a little heavier for my boat workouts. After my shower, I walked up on the bow and I think that's where I'll be sitting this afternoon. There is a good wind blowing out of the east/southeast and the air is cool and clear. Tonight is Va Tech football against Boise State. I've got my VT outfit already to wear. ;)

Janie: I think that you are so right. A balanced healthy body does help us to deal with the curve balls that life throws us. Thank goodness for our workouts.

Speaking of healthy: my DH has just made a fresh fruit salad bowl for lunch. Light but nutritious. That's where I'm headed. I'll try to get back later.

I wrote early this morning then the computer started to act funny and I lost the post. Laura - I know your pain.

Long story short about my weekend - had a nice one. DH had wrongfully accused me of throwing away his credit card and I honestly could not completely deny the possibility of perhaps throwing it out but there was no proof either way and the trash had been burned. I maintain he could have kept better track of it - it was out of his wallet and he had haphazardly emptied his pockets onto the counter. I kept picking up his cash and liscense and putting it down again. I was vindicated when he found the card in his shirt pocket a day later.

Had Harold's (dog) birthday party - and my family came out for a picnic. The pups had a GREAT time - Harold and Howie were in and out of the creek constantly and Dot was having a blast acting as hostess. We also had a bit of a bonfire that night after most everyone had left - with a beautiful fire on a beautiful night. We stayed out later after my sister & brother in law went home and cooked up some hot dogs - just the two of us. Fun & nice.

Yesterday - we went sailing. Rex is a bit STRESSED OUT when he sails but I believe that is part of the FUN of it for him so generally I find the whole ordeal unpleasant. I really prefer anchoring and swimming and sunning. Count me in on that part - I can do without everything else. Afterwards we came home, finished cleaning up the party and had a fast dinner, watched a movie - then he went to bed and I did Kari Anderson's Curl workout - just ab work - but a fav of mine.

Renee - I wrote your B-Day down but wanted to wish you a good day early in case I somehow forget. Happy, Happy Birthday!!! I hope its great.

Hi to everyone - I want to post this in case the computer craps out again!!

Happy Birthday to you Renee!!! I am so glad you got a special deal on your special day!! How fun!

So the day before yesterday I did PUB which is always awesome & I was up a good 5 lbs per exercise since finishing STS!! So I know that system really really does work!

Today was my first time teaching pilates I did ok but there where definitely a few things that I still am not ready to do!:(

I am feeling confined and frustrated! I think I might go home and do another upper body workout..

I am sure all of you have heard about the big fire outside of Boulder, we were actually going to go to the Gold Hill Inn for Labor Day music but Sophia had a little bit of a cold so we didn't which was a good thing as it was evacuated! :eek:They managed to save the Historic part of the town, but it was very very close and they had to move all the equipment several times because the flames were so close and so hot!!

Did Hitt Double Wave Pyramid and burned 300 calories. They say the met is 10 I think for me it was 7. I training Rolly on the treadmill. He was frightened at first but I think he will enjoy it later. We'll see.

Renee, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to Renee, Happy Birthday to you. And many more........

Michelle, Great job on walking and Travel Fit. Good idea to equip yourself for weight workouts. You might as well get a whole set and but them away in a special part of the boat. That's what we do, only in the camper. We do our exercises outside when we travel. Do enjoy that wonderful fresh fruit salad DH made for the two of you. How sweet is that?

Shoegal, Sounds like the picnic was exactly what you needed. What a sweet hot dog moment. Cherish that. Great job on the ab work.

Laura, Isn't it wonderful to do STS and find it really does work. Congratulations on the weight increase for your exercises! Sounds like you are doing very well considering. You'll get better soon. I hate fires. Do stay safe.

Have a really nice evening everyone,

Janie

Man, the days are already getting shorter!:( It was so dark when i got up today.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RENEE!!!!!! Best wishes for a great day and many more to come.:)

Monday i did Shiva Rea's Yogini Vinyasa Flow Yoga for Women (could the title be any longer?:p). I'm not sure if i like this one yet. It may be that i just need to get familiar with the routine but she does some "creative movement" stuff that i'm not used to. In one of the segments the music is the same as the Beginner Flow yoga DVD. I like the music but i was suprised she would use the same track on a different DVD. In any case i never feel like I get a good workout the first time i do a new DVD.

Yesterday i did my own quiet practice. I felt great and was able to keep my mind focused when i was holding the asanas.

Today i brought a mat and my yoga clothes to work. I'm planning on using the gym downstairs when i'm finished work to do my yoga. I did that last week and it was like i had my own private studio. I had the place to myself and it's actually pretty nice down there. There is a whole section away from the machines and weights that was perfect for me to practice. The floor is a laminate wood and there are mirrors which was really weird for me since i never practice in front of mirrors.

Janie: With all the walking you do, why does Rolly need to train on the treadmill? Is that for when the weather is bad?

Shoegal: I love hot dogs!!!! I haven't had one in years! I know they aren't good for you but usually that's the kind of meat i like.

Laura: That's crazy about the fire! Do they know what caused it? Glad to hear you are back to teaching pilates.

Michelle: Such a nice way to spend your labour day and end the summer. It was very cool here.

Last night I did Gym Style Chest & Triceps. Those drop set of push ups - OMG!!! I was dying - it was so tough - and it affected my workout afterwards - I felt very fatigued and could barely lift but I got it done. I was glad - I didn't think I'd have time to get a workout in - since we got home later. Tonight I think I'll do Christi Taylor's HB - haven't truly explored that whole thing yet - plus the last time I did it I still had more to learn and I find that exciting.

Elle - yeah the days are shorter here too - I remarked to Rex that it looked dark out - it was 7!! He said we were gearing up for a storm but the days are certainly shorter. I haven't had a hot dog in awhile either and I love them too -but I felt this one time would be alright since it was such a fun night.

Renee - HAPPY BIRTHDAY - do you have any special plans???

Michelle - I suppose it is getting to be football weather - fall is a great time of year - still warm but a bit cooler. I'm really thinking about switching the house over to fall but to be honest I hate to let summer go.

Janie - Rolly on the treadmill??? I always wanted to teach Indy to walk on it but she never took to it. My girls now don't need the extra exercise - they are constantly out and about.

Shadowpup -are you home for awhile?

Laura - I actually didn't hear about the fire - but goodness I'm really never well informed about anything so it isn't surprising. I will look it up once I finish posting here - I'm glad you are safe - lucky that you didn't go out there - hope Sophia feels better too!

Hope everyone enjoys the day!

Wow! So far my birthday has been great! I must have had over 300 b-day wishes on Facebook...and I'm not kidding. I like to personally reply and say "thank you" and boy, is that time consuming. In just a little while I'll be heading out to meet up with 5 super ladies that I teach with at my favorite Steak House. Oh Boy! MEAT!

I've been doing lots of step this week, and some stretching. Add a little karate in there too. Staying very busy. Friday night is belt graduation...I'll be orange then. :)

Started a 6 year old boy in piano today. Cute kid, not very focused. Hope it goes well. Take it slow and easy to avoid discouragement. Tomorrow I'll start a 6 year old girl. OY!

Well, I gotta run, but thanks for the well wishes everybody. It means a lot to me!

~Renee

Happy Birthday sister. Hope you had a great dinner out this evening.

Took a break from exercise yesterday. Today, I just did lower and upper body sculpt from BS/Body Fusion and stability ball abs. Tomorrow most likely will be a cardio day. Very windy all week but the weather has been great. Really enjoying just being on the boat and relaxing. The marina is empty and we pretty much have the pool all to ourselves in the afternoon.

Shoegal: the birthday party for the pups sounds like lots of fun. GS chest and triceps is a great workout. Those drop set pushups always get me good too.

Laura: I did hear about the fire out in Colorado. Glad to hear that you all are safe.

Elle: I've been looking at the Shiva Rea yogini vinyasa flow dvd. Let me know how you like it once you get to it.

Got to go get dinner on the table.
~m

It is still cool here...and dark...and gloomy. Autumn is actually my favourite season but i prefer to delay it until the end of September.:p

Yesterday i did my planned yoga practice in the gym downstairs. I had the place to myself again so i think that's a good time since most people probably don't finish until 5pm. I came in early so i was down there at 4pm and when i left it was still empty. Suits me fine!

Michelle: I'm planning on doing "yogini" on Sat & Sun. I'll keep you updated. One thing i do like is the matrix which allows you to select what order and which segments you want to do. My beginner flow yoga doesn't have that so i usually fast forward and rewind to rearrange the segments the way i like to do them.

Renee: I can't believe you are already graduating to the next level! congratulations. Hope you enjoyed your birthday dinner with the girls.

Shoegal: Great job on the pushups! You're hardcore!:p

Have a great day!

I did Christi Taylor last night as planned - jumped right into it fairly early. Rex asked if I wanted to go for a walk - I debated - but then I thought by the time we get back it might interfere with the time I have planned to work out. So no I didn't go - but had such a fun workout. It is an older Christi step but still very complicated and so much fun - believe me the time rushes by and I'm having such a blast that I'd like to do it again tonight. Instead, I'll do Gym Style legs I think. I'm sure it will kick my butt as well. Afterwards we went out to dinner and that was fun too.

Renee - glad the birthday was a good one. Dinner out is always a good way to celebrate.

Elle - it is like having your very own private workout space. We have a workout room here at work - I'm really not sure how many people use it but I never go down there. Work is an hour drive from home - so I just always want to get home as soon as possible.

Michelle - I don't have BS/ Body Fusion - what do you think of it??? I'm not sure why I decided not to get this one.

Ok - got to get going - hi to Janie, Shadowpup & Laura!!

Rolly is not taken kindly to the treadmill, so we decided not to use it. I did MMA Boxing that was on the rotation. Whew, just loved it.

Renee, So glad you had lots of birthday wishes. You deserve it. Enjoy your friends and the restaurant. I love step also and when I'm done with the first month and on to a week of recovery, that's what I'll do as well. Congratulations on being an orange belt on Friday. Wow, I'm impressed. I didn't know you teach piano. You are full of surprises. Impressed through and through.

Michelle, Great job on your workout yesterday. Enjoy the less crowded marina and pool. It must be awesome.

Elle, Rolly didn't take too well to the treadmill, or I just couldn't see him being afraid so I stopped it. I suppose like everything else if I kept up with it he would enjoy it, but, looking at his little eyes made me stop. I just want him spoiled and happy. Great job on your yoga practices. Having the gym to yourself must have been heaven.

Shoegal, Great job with Christi, hmmmm, you make me want to do one of her workouts too:rolleyes:. Hope you and your DH enjoyed dinner.

We are having phenomenal weather this week. Early this morning a cold front came through and took the temps down a smidge--good wind blowing out of the NW today. This has just been a great, great week to be on vacation. I must have been extra good this year for the vacations gods to be giving us such outstanding weather. Ripken and I have been taking wonderful walks in the morning and the evening. He is really enjoying the weather and the time with his mommy and daddy.

Today's exercise was MMA Kickbox. I'm starting to get pretty good at this one. Not sure what I'll do tomorrow. I only have so many choices on the boat. Maybe butts and guts or a 10 mile bike ride. Don't have to worry about that until tomorrow.

Elle: hopefully the sun will come back out in Toronto. I hate gloomy too.

Shoegal: gosh, if Joe asked me to go for a walk, I'd faint first and then go with him. Did Rex take the pup with him? I'm hoping that once we get beyond the first few months of Joe kicking ye ol cigarette habit that I can get him to take some walks and maybe get back on his exercycle.

Janie: when you walk Rolly on the treadmill, do you walk with him? I'm trying to picture how this works. He's a little guy so I'm thinking you could possibly both be walking on the treadmill. Ripken is so big that it would be him or me on the treadmill. But I'm thinking the treadmill just wouldn't be the same--no good sniffs. And no opportunities to do doggie leg lifts, if you know what I mean.

Hope everyone is having a great week. I think sister is at karate tonight.
~michelle

Will be taking Rolly out for a walk if I find a break in between rain. Getting ready to do STS legs disc 9.

Michelle, So nice to have great weather, enjoy it. Great job on MMA Kickbox. Rolly's treadmill days are over, he's too frightened. But when he did it he was alone. No room for the both of us. There is nothing like the real thing for our doggies.

Janie

Another great day. A little cooler today, wind still blowing out of the north. Ripken and I have had great walks again today. Right now, my sweet fuzzball is taking a nap. I did B&G standing glute and ab premix earlier today. My little buddy was right there with me--watching me with a big old grin on his face. Such a great dog.

Janie: I can certainly understand why Rolly doesn't like the treadmill. He wants to be walking with you!

Sister: have fun tonight at the belt graduation. Do you keep the old belt as a keepsake or trade it in for the new one?

Hi to Laura, Shadowpup, and Elle. Hope everyone is doing okay.
~michelle

Top of the weekend and hi everyone! Just got done doing B&G, part II--floorwork and abs premix. Figured I might as well do that one and cover all the part of the B&G workout. I hope I can walk tomorrow. LOL!

Brushed Ripken out this morning on the dock instead of taking our second walk. He just didn't want to go, so he got groomed instead. Lots of dog hair floating in the creek this morning. Better there than in the boat, although there is still plenty in the boat which means I need to vacuum today (after I change the vacuum cleaning bag on the central vac system). Did a little laundry this morning, got the exercise done--feeling good. I also tried to trim back Ripken's hair on his paws but he was having none of that. I'll try again later. If he is not in the right mood for getting his paws trimmed, he very nicely gives me a low growl and lets me know to buzz off. Silly pup.

DH is saying we are going out to eat tonight. Nice.

Hope everyone is having a great Saturday.
~michelle

Hi all,

Back again - leaving for Canada on Monday, back Friday, then another trip!!! But, after that, I have a week (mostly) off. Just have to monitor the last of the fiscal year activities ...

Hope everyone is doing well and having a great weekend!
