Getting Our Licks In!

Yesterday got busy and I didn't have time to post. My body was feeling pretty beat up so I went with Stretch Max--the whole thing. I felt so much better afterwards. I really enjoyed just stretching. Today after walking with Ripken, I did GS Back, Shoulders, and Biceps. I backed off on my bicep weight amounts a little because my right arm has just gotten over being sore from last Friday's bicep work and I didn't want to be nursing my elbow again.

My husband surprised me on Wednesday and took Ripken to the groomer. When I came home, my little buddy was all clean and handsome. Unfortunately, the groomer got one nail a little too short and it has been bleeding after our walkabouts. She has never done this before and it really isn't bothering Ripken except that it starts bleeding after we walk. So, of course, this means that he has to have extra attention and a nice cool wet compress on his paw which he doesn't mind at all. Eventually, this will stop but in the meantime it means a little first aid and extra love has to be administered after the walkabout. Once again, Ripken is all about the extra attention.

Shoegal: Legs and Glutes is a good workout. I would rank it between Leaner legs (a good challenge), L&G (more of a challenge), and then GS Legs (more intense and challenging). I've been pulling weeds out of necessity the past few days, for a little bit each morning. I appreciate great looking gardens because I have no interest or talent for such an enterprise. Men, well, can be men sometimes. Going to the beach sounds like fun. Hope you have a good time. Looks like it's going to be another scorcher of a week though. Ah well, at least you'll be beaching it.

Sister: have fun tonight at Karate. You'll do fine, I am sure.

Counting down: 2 weeks to the Cathe Roadtrip.

I can't believe I haven't checked in since last tuesday! I am starting to feel like summer is just one big party after the other. Jane Austin talked about fall/winter being the party season but here in 2010 Colorado I have to say that is true for our summers!

I have had lots of stuff happening and just trying to keep up with the have to's and my workouts. Wednesday was a day off in Boulder for the girls stuff down there and then we went to the pool. Thursday was super busy with cleints and have to's but I did manage to finally get my STS Chest & Back workout in at 8:30 pm. (not my favorite time to workout but am seriously back sliding on getting my workouts in so made myself do it.) Yesterday was a hike with my girls to Lost Lake and a friend and her kids. It was only 1 1/2 mile in, 3 mile round trip at a leisurely pace, but still burnt 553 calories! So I guess I will count that as a cardio day although it was more like an active rest day..:(;)

I am about to run up to the yurt for STS arms before we head out to a music festival and then meeting some friends of ours back at our place. They live in Denver and are sweltering in the heat and called us to see if they could come camp on our land. We will have a bonfire with them.

I didn't have a time to catch up on what is happening for all of you, but if I don't go RIGHT now to workout I will miss another one! I know ya'll know I can't let that happen! LOL@

Just got back home last night late. Today I plan on grocery shopping, unpacking, making two weeks of food for Rolly and having great meals. Tomorrow, will do yoga because I feel from all that sitting, this is one I surely need to do. Perhaps a cardio as well.

I'm weary and can't wait to get back to normal.

I've read most of the posts and you all seem to do very well with your routines, rotations and daily exercises. I've missed so much coming home, but will now be able to post personals every day now.

I've missed you.:)

Nice lazy Saturday today. It is, of course, hot again. Litte Rippy and I had a nice walk this morning. This is Screwpile Weekend (sailboat racing regatta) and we have lots of transient sailboats in the marina. Two sailboats came into our t-head this morning and commenced to banging around and talking on the dock very loudly at 6 am. Unfortunately, this is the typical inconsiderate behavior we've come to expect of the Screwpile participants. It's the one weekend of the summer that we are glad to see go by quickly.

Did the upper and lower body + stability ball workout from Basic Step and Body Fusion dvd. Then mostly been reading and relaxing today. It's been nice. Almost time to walk the pup for the evening. He is such a good boy.

Its Sunday, and I'm gearing up for at least a 2 hour workout today. Yesterday I took my rest day...a day early, but I really needed it. I was drained mentally and physically. No need to workout and risk injury.

Friday was such a busy day. I don't think I have checked in since Thursday. Friday morning was MMA: Fusion. Definately getting better at that one. I'm really enjoying the MMA's lately. Then after my workout I went and helped a friend move for about 4 and half hours in 90 degree plus heat and humidity. Talk about draining!!! Then it was time to come home, shower and get ready for karate graduation. Phew! It was fun and exciting. After the basic students run through their curriculum, we get to watch the intermediate and advanced students do their thing. That was really neat to see what I have to look forward too. Everyone moved up to their next belt. I am now YELLOW! The color of each belt has a philosophical interpretation. The White Belt is: Pure and without knowledge of American Freestyle Karate. As with a tree, the seed must now be planted and nourished to develop strong roots. A Yellow Belt represents: The seed beginning to see the sunlight. The student begins to understand the basics. My next belt will be orange, not sure about what that represents yet.

After karate I went to my friends house who has the pool. Another friend was turning 39, so there was a party going on. After a few hours, it got wildly out of hand, and I made a quick departure. First time all summer that sort of thing happened and I did not want to be a part of that type of foolishness. I was hoping that sort of thing was part of the past. That place is party central, and its been pretty low-keyed until Friday night.

So, I get home around 11:30 and go straight to bed. Since I am in the habit of getting up early, Saturday morning is no different. Time to feed my 4 cats and the outdoor cats who show up for a free meal. Two adults and two 6-8 week old kittens. I look out the front door, no cats! Thats strange. I open the door, and there is one of the kittens, sleeping. But its very still and it doesn't get up to run away, like it always does. Uh-oh! Its not moving at all. Gulp, its dead. No sign of injury, but its dead. My heart sinks. I go back in the house, put on clothes, get a shovel and go bury this sweet little kitty. Surprisingly I don't shed a tear, just accept the whole circle of life thing. I don't know if the poor little thing was bitten by something, had heat stroke, was poisened or what. Just very, very sad.

My Mom and I went to the Farmers Market, and then I came home and proceeded to take a lazy day off. Snoozed and watched some TV, read a little, but really didn't do much at all. Exhausting Friday, a strangely emotional morning, and I was completely fried. I did go out later that day with a friend to see a local musical production. As we were killing some time outside the theatre, talking about karate, flexibility, running...whatever, my friend said "you're pretty flexible, you can bend down and touch your toes, right?" Uh, yeah and I do. While touching the ground, right there by my feet was a penny. A PENNY! As, you know, I believe, that a found penny is a sign of lost pets saying "hey, its okay, I'm fine and waiting here for you at the rainbow bridge." It was that kitty...I just know it. Hanging out with my Noodles, saying thanks for being a good human to me and its okay. Wow! What a day. What a conclusion.

A new day, with a couple of hours of exercise planned. Its gonna be a good day, I just know it!

Fear less, hope more, eat less, chew more, whine less, breathe more, talk less, say more, hate less, love more, and good things will be yours. Swedish Proverb

Oh boy did I ever need these workouts. I did a 45 min very fast walk with Rolly. Then I did an hour of yoga. It was great! Felt so good to finely do this. My body was crying out to exercise.

Went from in the 100's to 58 degrees here in the Pac. NW. this morning. Love it, perfect for speed walking outside. But what a difference from where I was. Wow.

Michelle, I do remember you having problems with very rude people last year on your boat. Hopefully after the weekend it will be better for you.

Good job on the upper and lower body, and BF. I'm planning on doing some reading too, but in the hot tub.:D

Renee, So glad you listen to your body and took the unplanned rest day. Your workouts in the last few days are great. You are very consistent and I bet you look fabulous. Also helping a friend move for many hours in the 90's is no small task. How do you do it? Then on top of that Karate. Wow. Don't over do it K? Sorry to hear about the party.

I'm so sorry about the little kitty. How awful to see it dead like that. Were you able to finally see the other cats during the day? What a lovely story about the penny.:) The little kitty is waiting for you, and knows your kindness. Now I have prickly skin all over.:D

Enjoy your wonderful day.

My Sunday is going great! I did Rhytmic Step and Pyramid Upper Body (just the weight lifting part). Feels good!

And yes, Janie, the two adult stray cats have returned for their free meals, but I have not seen the other kitten. Makes me wonder, if that one, too, met an early demise. I have looked under the front porch and bushes but have not seen it. I am hopeing someone caught it and has made it into a house cat. I have been giving my 4 indoor cats lots of extra love and attention. And they don't mind a bit!

Its nice to be home, huh, Janie. And great job with getting back into the swing of things with exercise. Feels good!

Happy Sunday everyone! It is a glorious hot day here in CO! So glad to finally feel really, truly hot!:D:p Doing errands around the house and yard and hanging out with the family.

I am not sure what to do to day for a work out. I need to look at my week and see how I can fit things in and what days before I decide. I still need to make up legs for this week but really was hoping to get to the gym to use the squat rack but maybe I will do plyo legs instead...

Janie: oh it must feel good to be home! I always enjoy my trips but really enjoy getting home again and back into a routine! I bet the yoga did feel good!

Michelle: so annoying when a few obnoxious people ruin it for everyone else! Sorry about that and I hope they move on soon! Your days on the boat sound absolutely lovely!

Renee: your story brought tears to my eyes! Poor little thing! So nice of you to take the time to bury it!~:(

Aside from it being Screwpile weekend, it has really been very nice and relaxing. The folks on the sailboat apologized for being loud yesterday which was nice. Today was the first day of the sailboat races and all the boats pulled out around 9 this morning and returned between 3 and 4 this afternoon. There has been a slight breeze today but apparently there was not wind out on the bay today. THAT and 90+ degree heat makes for a miserable day of sailboat sitting vice racing.

I washed the boat this morning taking cooling and water breaks about every 30 minutes. I'm finding that if I religiously wash the boat every 2 weeks, it is quite manageable and doesn't take much "on my hands and knees" scrubbing. Then Joe and I went to the pool for a couple of hours this afternoon. Came back to the boat, took a quick shower, and have been chilling out with a cocktail. We are staying through tomorrow morning. I'll leave from here to go to work.

Today was my break day. It's been nice.

Sister: congrats on your first colored belt in Karate. Good for you. You've come such a long way from a couple of years ago. You should bring one of your "big girl" pictures with you on the roadtrip to show Cathe.

Janie: welcome back. Nice to be back home, isn't it? It's fun to go visiting, but always so nice to come home. Bet you are enjoying the cooler climate in the PNW.

Laura: we've been stewing since early June. Hard to believe that there are a few places in the continental U.S. that are cool. Go for the plyo legs--you'll definitely feel like you have made up for missing a few leg workouts. Where are you in meso 3? Week 2 or 3?

I am thinking that I will do Cathe's high step workouts this week. Haven't done those in a while and I do love to hate all those leg presses. Tomorrow I'll do Travel Fit on the boat and then I'm thinking High Step Advanced Training on Tuesday. Oh boy!

Less than 2 weeks until the Cathe roadtrip.

The start of a new week, with a visit to the dentist. Ick! Not my favorite thing to do, but its done for now. Gotta go back in August to have a filling removed and re-filled, yippy skippy, I am so excited.

So, afterwards I went to the mall. To see what I could see...any good deals. Went to Sears to look at weight benches. Found one there I liked but hoped I could find something similar at Play it Again Sports. And I did! Woo-hoo! And for half the price! Bought a Weider weight bench and new barbell bar. The bench can lay flat, incline and straight up. It has leg extensions and a lat pull down bar. Nearly brand new too! SWEET!

I have yet to exercise today. I am thinking one of the IMAX's or a HiiT. I will definately lift later because I will have to try out my new equipment once I get it home. Also must work on my stretching and flexibility for those dang splits in karate.

Action may not always bring happiness; but there is no happiness without action.

Aw sister, it sounds like you had a fun day. Wish I could have been there with you watching you spend your money.

I haven't exercised today and I'm not sure if I will after I get home or just save myself for high step advanced training in the morning.

Also on the schedule tomorrow morning is a trip with my Marine Corps Manpower Team colleagues to the Marine Corps Museum. That will be fun.

Only 11 more days to the Cathe Roadtrip.

Did TBS with Joey and will later take Rolly out for a long fast walk.

Renee, Good job on Rhythmic Step and PUB. Perfect!

Joey and I have a dentist appt. in Aug. Not fun, that's for sure. LOL, you are so funny.

Love shopping for exercise equipment. Glad you found something that was a bargain and very useful. Good for you.

I hope someone took the kitty in as well. Poor things. I bet your kitties are very lucky to have a mommy like you.:)

Oh it is so gggoooooddddd to be home. I'm not leaving for our Fall trip (at least in my mind today) this time around. I love being home!

Laura, So glad you are enjoying your weather and family. I loved the yoga, it was with Cameron Shayne. Always a good yoga for me.

Michelle
, Sorry about the heat, but I bet it was exciting to see the boat races.:D So nice to see you enjoy the Summer.

I haven't done Cathe's High Step Workouts in a very long time. Hmmmm, I may have to do it sometime very soon. Thanks for the inspiration. Good job on your workouts by the way. I bet it is a challenge to do them on the boat.

Take care everyone and have a nice day.

Janie

Well, I ended up doing SC: Cardio Blast! I know, I know, what happened to HiiT or Imax? Well, see, I was looking at my triple stack of Cathe dvd's and honestly, the one that jumped out at me was Cardio Blast. I haven't done that in a very long time. Its only 44 minutes long, but very, very intense. At least it was to me. Of course, I went thru my personal exercise log book to see what I did last year and the year before. Thats when it hit me! My Noodles went to the rainbow bridge July 19, 2008. OY! I think that made Cardio Blast a little more difficult because I really had to concentrate.

I posted on Facebook "A Grassy Field" in memory of my beloved cat. Had a good cry and then made spaghetti. Yummy! Noodles! The kind that you eat that is. A favorite food of mine, and hence the reason why my long haired cat was named "noodles". Google "A Grassy Field" and then choose the one from "Bark" the musical. But beware, you'll need a tissue or two.

I'll be picking up my weight bench in the morning. I can't wait!

Janie, TBS is Total Body Sculpting? You guys really like that one! Who walks faster, you or Rolly? lol

~~Renee~~

!

Hi guys! or gals! LOL!

I did end up doing STS Plyo Legs yesterday which was intense! Than I road my mountain bike from my house up and over to Lump Gulch where we have a rental property. The renter is a mechanic so he does all our mechanically work and my car was there to have the starter replaced. It was a great ride, intense though! It was only 30 minutes but after plyo legs it was a perfect leg day.

It gave me the bug to ride more, which I haven't been able to this summer because my DH is so busy and the girls are to young to be left alone yet. (maybe next summer..) I was planning to ride today while the girls where at Horse back riding camp but the weather was very intense, windy, big dark clouds everywhere so opted out which was to bad as the weather never materialized....spent an hour at a friends lake after camp than off to work to teach Pilates, I did a tough Body Bar routine, and then Total Tone where I did an Upper Body Pyramid style workout which was tough, tough, tough!

Michelle: that is nice that the people apologized to you for their loud behavior. Sounds like a nice relaxing day!

Janey: so nice to have you amongst again! Bet it feels good to get the body moving again with some old favorites!

Catchick: Nice Score on the bench! I have been poking around benches here and there as well. Thinking of checking out Craigs List...Wow loving memories to Noodles!

Shout out to Shoegal, Shadowpup and Elle!

Oh! Michelle, since you asked, I am on the 3rd week of Meso 3, in the 6 months you repeat each week 2x. With my trip at the end of this month I am planning on keeping it up until then and then adding 2 more weeks when I get back so I will be sticking with Meso Cycle 2 through August, I am really enjoying the heavy lifting and seeing some good results.

I've been sick! Ugh!:( I haven't worked out since last week since i was really busy with work and more social events. Saturday i went to a BBQ at my brother's to celebrate my mom's birthday. By the time i got home i was feeling pretty blah. Sunday i relaxed. I stayed home from work yesterday and i'm still feeling pretty blah today. I'm hoping to feel good enough to at least do some yoga by tomorrow.

Michelle: Shiva Rea's Beginner flow yoga is the one i started with and i really like it although i'm pretty sure you could adapt any of her routines to your current level (kind of like Cathe).

Renee: Congrats on graduating to your yellow belt! Seems like that went pretty quick. Poor little kitten! Your attitude about life and accepting people the way they are is great! I know all of that in theory but putting it into practice is hard at times, especially when the universe sends you challenges (annoying people) to test you!:p We can't change others, but we can change how we react to them.

Janie: Glad to hear you are back home and back to your routine. You cook for Rolly? What kind of food does he eat?

Laura: Sounds like you are having a great summer even though it's a busy one. Enjoy it while it lasts...summer just flies by!

A quick post and then back to work. This morning Ripken and I had a really nice walk. The sun is starting to rise just a wee bit later, but we are still getting up at 5:15 to beat the heat. It's not dark at 5:15, but just starting to get light out. I really like walking Ripken and that time of day--things seem a bit more serene. After our walk, I did high step advanced training--you know the one with all those leg presses. I managed to do every set with a 15 pound dumbbell, but I really had to concentrate on my form on the last circuit. It's been a while since I've done the high step routines--I forgot how intense they are and how quickly the time goes by.

Went to the Marine Corps Museum this morning with my colleagues. It's really an incredible place. The displays are very well done. One of my colleagues is the 13th Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps (retired) and he was with us today. Going through the Vietnam War section, he provided quite of bit of history and first-hand knowledge. It was the first time I've been through the musuem and will have to go back a few times because I know I missed stuff. Highly recommend a visit if you happen to be in Quantico VA.

Elle: thanks for the recommendation on the yoga dvd. Siva Rea's Beginner Flow Yoga is the one I've been contemplating purchasing. Hope you are feeling well enough this week to exercise.

Janie: I'm not doing the High Step routines on the boat but at home. Logistically, step exercises of any kind don't work on the boat--not enough room. I stick to Travel Fit, KickMax, KPC, B&G, and lower/upper body and stability ball from Basic Step/Body Fusion when on the boat. Or I rent a bike from the marina and go bike-riding.

Hi to everyone else. 10 more days to the Cathe roadtrip.
~michelle

Walked Rolly for 45 min. and did aerobic yoga for an hour.

Renee, Great job on SC cardio blast. It's a very tough one for me as well.

My heart goes out to you. It's so very sad to lose one of our beloved pets, and it's so nice to keep the memories alive.;)

Let us know how the weight bench works out for ya, I know you will just love it!

TBS is the one workout, Joey is very stuck on. He enjoys it very much and doesn't want to gain strength, just wants to keep what he has intact. The workout does that for him. I'd like to do it as a warm up and use light weight, then continue on to a heavier workout. Anyway, that's my plan. Sometimes it just doesn't workout that way. Not enough time during the day.

Rolly walks much faster than me. LOL:eek:

Laura, Great job on your leg day and your Pilates class. Very intense indeed. Along with Body Bar and Total Tone, wow.

Elle P, So sorry you aren't feeling well. Hope you get back to par very soon. What a bummer, I know.:(

Rolly eats (mixed together) rice, barley, oatmeal, then I add vitamins, good oil, cooked chicken hearts, hamburger, and liver crumbled and fried up. I go by a recipe from a vet book I have. He's very healthy and happy and loves his food. I make about two weeks worth at one time and freeze the rest.

Michelle, Bet you can't wait for the Rode Trip. I'm excited for you.

My Joey like getting up that early too, except it's about 3:30 or so. He says the same thing as you do, serene. Great job on the Advance High Step. That one is very hard for me.

The museum sounds like a very interesting place to visit. Would love to go one day.

Have a great day everyone,

Janie

Well, I have my weight bench, and it is fantastic! I've done flat and incline bench presses for my 1 RM's and just messed around a bit with the lat pull down bar, and leg extension thingy. I like it! As I knew I would.

I have also done MMA: Kickbox, again! The kicking really helps with karate and conditioning. I also spent about a half hour stretching and working on my flexibility and splits for karate. I have class tonight. First one in my yellow belt. I feel like I behave like a little kid here sometimes, but, hey, its who I am. I definately enjoy life right now! :D

Elle, hope you feel well soon. I hate being sick, but who likes it, huh?

Janie, I think its great that you make Rollys food. I wish I could get my cats to eat cooked/raw. I have many recipes but they are set in their ways, and I really don't feel like tackling that headache or trying to get them to switch. Skittles and Tiki love raw chicken breast and get that when I am cooking that for myself. Me personally, I prefer my chicken cooked! lol

Sister keeps me posted on the road trip. I can't wait! Its gonna be great!

Wanted something new to write in and use for a food and exercise journal. Always used these lined yellow paper tablets. Boring:confused:.

Went to Walmart and found these wonderful little composition tablets that consist of 100 sheets of paper. They are 9 3/4 x 7 1/2 in. They all have black and white covers with 4 different patterns on each one of them. I bought 4 each of the 4 patterns. They were only 25 cents each. What a bargain! $4.00 for 16 tablets. Each sheet will be used for two days.
There is also lots of room left over for comments of the day.

They are so much like a (now I am showing my age) pee chee folder, with metric unit conversions, fractions, decimal, percentages, multiplication chart, spelling rules, punctuation and Web Reference (General Reference and Research sites) and wide ruled lines of paper in-between the covers.

I love these things! They should last me for years. Also bought a black calculator ($1.00) to add and subtract my calories going in and calories going out. Couldn't resist buying an electric pencil sharpener. Am I going to far?

What a nice fresh start. Well, it's an inspiration for me anyway, and I need that. Tomorrow I start writing in one and calling it, "Staying Healthy by Fighting Off Unwanted Fat and Gaining Strength". My pencil is sharp and ready to go.

Renee
, Congratulations for getting your weight bench home. Yea, how fun!

I've checked out the Karate classes here in Shelton, and they are all at the time when Joey and I sit down to eat and watch movies in our theater. Darn!:( I guess I'll have to get some DVD's instead. I'll start looking for them when I'm done posting.

You did a great workout. Splits will be really great to learn.

Rolly eats cooked food, don't think he would like it any other way either. Eeek! But he's worth the extra work. He's my buddy.

Take care,

Janie
