Getting Our Licks In!

Hope everyone enjoyed their 4th of July.

Walked with Joey and Rolly this morning before the weather got hot. Was great. Will do another walk tonight when the sun is down. Will try to eat better today, since I haven't been lately.

Michelle, Reading your book with all the lovely surroundings must have been serene. Good that you are listening to your body and taking it a little easier than usual.

I understand about people not paying attention to the no wake rule. I think those kinds of people visit our neck of the woods too. It's very disconcerting.

What a neat idea to give your animal a floor fan. I'll do that when we get home for our animals. Thank you for the idea.

Renee, You seem to be consistent again with your workouts and you just can't get better than that. I'm going to look into Karate when I get home. It just sounds so cool.

Enjoy all the compliments you get, you work hard to get there and deserve the attention.

Elle P, I couldn't get on Cathe either. Glad it's working OK now. Oh my, those Spa days are wonderful. Aren't they. My son treated me to a manicure at this huge and beautiful resort. Never had one before so kept an eye on what she was doing and now can do my own. It was so expensive! I could of had a pedicure, but I don't like people touching my feet. After wards though, I might have changed my mind. Maybe next time.

Good job on the yoga and ME.

I know how hard you are trying to watch your eating. It can be very difficult at times. But you are back on track and that's all that matters. I too (since I've been in Vegas) have been off more than a bit though, and hope to correct it asap. I can feel myself getting bigger and bigger everyday.:( It's so frustrating.

Laura, I bet the girls will enjoy the horse back riding. How cool is that? Great job on your workouts. Nothing like hiking with friends and getting in a full body workout with your Pilates. Always a good idea to confuse the body.

Shoegal, Your garden is going to be just beautiful, I can tell.;) Having fun on your boat seems to be such a joy for the both of you. Good for you! Kennywood does sound like a lot of fun. What a great way to spend the 4th of July weekend. Full of activities!

Deborah, Hi to ya, and hope you had a great 4th!

Good morning! We are back in the heat here. Whew, it is going to be a hot, hot week. I just tried to take Ripken for his second walk this morning. We got about 15 feet down the dock and he plopped his butt down on the pier and just looked at me and gave me the look: no way mommy, it's too hot. So, I pet him a little and then asked, "what do you want to do?" Ripken took his leash in his mouth, turned around, and walked back to the boat to the nice A/C and his fan.

I did travel fit yesterday and will do some type of cardio later today after we go home. I'm thinking of starting STS again. I went through May and June and did all the old Cathe workouts and now I'm kind of thinking I'd like to do STS. Before I do, I want to review all the weight workouts I've done since finishing STS the first time and see if I've missed anything. I'm thinking that I haven't done the Gymstyle dvds yet, so I might do those for my weight work this month and then go back to STS in August after the roadtrip.

Sounds like everyone had a super 4th of July. We watched the fireworks at Solomons from the safey of our boat in its slip at the marina. Ripken sat with us in the cockpit and didn't get upset this year by the noise. Go figure--the night before some folks were setting off little stuff and he was freaked out. It's been nice to have a few days off. I was supposed to take off the whole of this week and next, but DH has some doctor's appointments so I will take time off later. I will definitely taking off a week at the end of the month when sister comes to visit.

Stay cool everybody.

How-dee!

Today was Low Impact Circuit. I was so in the zone. Hooping it up, and talking to Cathe, and having a good old time! I don't know which circuit dvd I like the best; LIC or Cardio and Weights. They are just sooo much fun, and it sure makes me sweat buckets.

Sister, I am going to do STS after the road trip, so, I highly recommend that you do too! ;) I am thinking it will be around the 7, 8 or 9 when I start it up again. Once I get home from the road trip, I will do the 1 RM's again, and we both know that takes a few days!! So, I am not sure which day I will start, plus how to fit karate around STS. But I am sure I will figure it all out! AND school...ick. Oh well, its a reality so no big deal.

I am enjoying a fairly laid back Tuesday at home. No pool, no people, just me and the cats. Karate, later, which I am looking forward too!

Janie you sound like you are having a lovely time in Vegas. Karate is very fun. I am studing American Freestyle which is a meshing of other types of karate, judo etc. I hope you look into it, but I know its not for everyone. But, you might enjoy it!

Reach high, for stars lie hidden in your soul. Dream deep, for every dream precedes the goal. ~Pamela Vaull Starr~

The damage wasn't so bad after all! I went to my WW meeting and i still managed to lose 0.8lbs last week.:D

Yesterday I did Step Blast. I don't think i've ever done this one before! It was pretty fun despite a little clumsiness trying to learn the choreography but i did pretty good overall. I really like the soundtrack on Step Blast so i'm planning on doing it again this week.

Michelle: It's a scorcher of a week here too. When i walked to my meeting at lunch the air was heavy with humidity. It feels like 40degrees with the humidity and it's supposed to continue until Thursday.

Janie: I'm glad to hear you are having a good time even though you are indulging in food. It's kind of hard not to when away from home but I'm sure you will get back on track.

Shoegal: Seems like your gardening never ends but it's good to make time for the boat too. I'm glad you had a nice weekend with your family.

Laura: I got to go to horseback riding camp when i was a kid. I loved it!

Another quick check-in as I wait for my Dh to come home so I can go to all you can eat Sushi with my girlfriends! YUMMY!!:D:eek::eek:

Last night I only had one person in my Pilates class and no one for my Total Tone so I went ahead and did my Chest & Back from STS, LOVING MESO 3!!! This morning my Pilates class was full so that was nice. I had a few new people as well. Then I did MMA Boxing this afternoon to work up an appetite for tonight!

Oh my hunnies home! Hopefully I will get to personals sometime! I am reading them.

Stay cool everyone!

Quick check-in. Did Low Impact Step this evening after getting home. Felt good to do a light cardio. Ripken and I took 2 short walks and he acts like he wants to do more. Unfortunately, somebody has to be the mommy (that would be me) and this pup is just not going back out in the heat for another walk until right before bedtime. Silly pup. 8 pm and it's still too dang hot. We'll be getting up at 5 am in the morning to walk so we can beat the sun-up. Oh boy.

~michelle

Good Wednesday morning!

Karate was a blast. And to top it off, my leg doesn't hurt! Getting ready for my yellow belt "test" which will be next Friday the 16th.

Today will be solely a weight lifting day. I think I am gonna take sisters cue and do gym style...both upper body dvd's. So, that being the case, I gotta get moving.

Have a great day!

~Renee

It's the mid-week hump and the heat alert has been extended until Friday here. It's 8am and already hot and humid outside. This weather always zaps my energy so i'm thankful for A/C.

Yesterday i did my yoga practice. I'm enjoying Shiva Rea but i still want to do my own routine on some days since many of the asanas are not covered in the DVD i'm using.

Renee: You seem to really be enjoying your Karate lessons. Good luck with your yellow belt test.
I know some people who practice various martial arts and there are some similarities with yoga. Both are disciplines that require the student to respect the teacher and not only learn to control the mind & body but to control the "chi" or "prana" as we yogi's call it. I'm not sure what style of Karate you are practicing but it's great that you found something you enjoy so much.

Yesterday evening - took down all of the 4th of July decor - :( not sure what to decorate for now? Summer? Well, decided to put the house back together in its normal state - no seasonal decorations but it kind of depresses me. I'm all about garden flags now - I desperately want to buy a bunch but am holding back. I knew that was not a good thing for me - I change out candles for the seasons (seriously) I change out banners on the door - I change out the platters on top of my kitchen cabinets - I change out tablecloths and tea towels -(yes, really) I'm a nut.

I also worked the garden - Oh I'm in love with that. It was soooo hot but it was calling me - and I answered the call. I worked with sweat dripping off of me and until I was a mess. That really doesn't take too long. I planted this Bishop's Weed on top of this horribly steep hill right under a tree. I really like Bishop's Weed - and I want it to take over that area completely. It always looks terrible, the soil is deplorable and it is too hard to mow there.

Afterwards I did Step Heaven with Christi Taylor. Let me say it was just Heaven - too much fun. I got everything pretty easily up until combo 6 - really long and beautiful combo let me tell you - not so easy - then skipped combo 7 and the step intervals and went on to the cool down & stretch. It was a super long workout anyway about 90 minutes and the interval parts are tedious so I had decided intially that I wasn't going to do them. I also kept my diet under control - did very well there. Well, it is something.

Elle - Congrats on the weight loss despite the difficult weekend - I know it isn't easy - each day brings new challenges. You have to keep your mind in the game - and that isn't easy but it is so necessary. You either do it or you don't. So good job. Step blast is tough - (and fun) but those blasts at the end really kick me in the rear.

Laura - where did Bo go that he was coming back from? Don't have any experience with Sushi - always wanted to try it though. There is a Sushi place right by my apartment and it was a goal of mine to make it over there and give it a whirl - but sadly - I never did go before I moved but I suppose I still can. Horse riding camp - wow - sounds super fun - outdoors, in the fresh air - animals - what could be better?

Janie - Vegas sounds like FUN!! I say you are out there - some fun is in order - so go for it. You have made a lifetime commitment to fitness so it will work its way into your schedule - and it will be fine.

Michelle - My sister says that often it is too hot for her boys to walk in the heat and they will plop down and refuse to move too!! So funny. Rex and I just discovered that the fireworks freak out Dot as well. We were riding through an area where there were a couple of rockets set off and I found her on the floor of the truck with her head under the seat!!

Renee - sounds like Karate is your thing! I am glad you are enjoying that and nice to have that extra bit of activity going on in the day. Gee - I wish I was you - I'd love to have a day all to myself - I think I would garden all day long!!!

Shadowpup - so - you got all your workout in - good job - you really are inspiring. No excuses!!!

Alright - hope you all have a great day!!

Little Rippy and I had a nice walk this morning before the sun came up. Probably the "coolest" part of the day and it was still very warm. Then I did Gym Style Chest and Triceps and as per usual, my arms were shaking by the last few tricep exercises. Now, I'm drinking water like crazy. I'm sure it's the weather.

This morning, somebody dumped a load of restaurant frying grease on U street in NW Washington. It sounds absolutely disgusting. The DC Dept of Transportation had to close down several blocks of road and covered it with sand. Then they reopened the street so folks could drive on the sand and work it into the grease (ick). And then they were closing the street again to clean up the grease and the sand. I don't know why anyone would want to drive down a road covered with grease and sand. What would that do to the undercarriage of your vehicle and how would you ever get it clean. Ick, ick, ick.

Shoegal: glad to hear that you are enjoying the gardening this summer. You must have caught the garden-fever from Shadowpup. We haven't heard about anymore bulb-planting sprees out in Idaho from our Shadowpup, so I'm hoping this year she is just getting to enjoy the fruits of her labors. You seem to be into Christi Taylor right now--good for you on your workout.

Sister: I'm sure that you will do fine with your yellow belt test next week. How did the double Gym Style workout go today? That's alot of lifting. Are you doing one in the morning and one in the afternoon?

Thinking cool thoughts in Virginia.

The internet here is having a problem, that's why I'm not on as much as I'd like.

Just want to let everyone know that your workouts look really great and you all are doing such a job with them.

Don't know how long I can stay on the internet, but I am reading all the posts when available, and will post more once DH and DS get it figured out.

Will be going to Algodones Mexico tomorrow to pick up wonderful glassware and retinol for my face, and other things we might see to purchase. Should be a fun day, but it will be 105 with no AC. Wow!

Yesterday i did 2 segments of my Shiva Rea DVD. Now that i'm getting familiar with this routine and her style i'm going to add another DVD into the mix next week.

Janie: Great to hear from you. Enjoy your shopping excursion!

Seems like everyone is experiencing a heat wave right now so stay cool everyone!

Good morning everyone! This morning, Ripken and I only did half of our walk--it's still very warm but the humidity is up, up, up today and we both were withering pretty quickly. After the walk, I popped Step Moves into the dvd player and had a good time getting majorly sweaty. My DH watched me do the challenge section and I'm not sure, but I think he was shaking his head in disbelief. Lots of energy going on at 6:30 in the morning.

Janie: 105 and no A/C sounds awful. We've had temps over 100 degrees here the past couple of days plus the humidity steadily going up. Hope you enjoy the trip even though it will be very hot. I'm assuming that Rolly is staying in Vegas? Hope your DH and DS get the internet problem solved.

Hi to sister, Elle, Laura, Shoegal, and Shadowpup.

Well never had a chance to workout yesterday or check in for that matter! I had an early morning client and had to leave immediately after to get the girls to Boulder for violin lessons and tutoring. My mom was in town for the day to meet with contractors at her new townhouse. I spent the afternoon and evening with her helping her choose colors for the various rooms. Lots of fun! Today I have Plyo Legs on the docket!

I guess I should send some of this cool wet weather we are having in Colorado to the East Coast! Wow sounds brutal across the boards! We are having an unusually cool and wet summer..the gardens and lawn are loving it though and I haven't had to water once!

Janie: no AC? In VEGAS?? You got to be kidding! UGH! Hang in there! How is Rolly doing?

Michelle: you are one dedicated puppy momma to get up so early to walk your sweet boy. Good job on those workouts in the heat!

Catchick: karate does sound like fun. I have always wanted to do some kind of martial arts, in Boulder there are lots of great teachers/classes but not at the times I could go and the ones up here in the mountains seem mediocre at best.

Elle: congrats on the weight loss despite the big weekend ! I have platued and need to pick it up a notch again....:(;)

Shoegal: you sure have been busy with your family! Sushi was so yummy, we had a great time out! That gardening in the heat must be a calorie burner for sure!

Hi to Shadowpup, miss hearing from ya

My get up and go, goes in the hot afternoon! UGH! I love summer, but 90-100 degrees is a bit much.

Now in the morning, I am good to go. Today was MMA:Boxing and the heavy bag. Enjoy that one a lot. Though I find myself thinking of how things are done in karate, and sometimes finding myself doing "it" the karate way and not the Cathe boxing way. I guess it doesn't matter much as long as I keep moving. I just have to make sure I do it the karate way at karate and don't mix it up there! lol!

Speaking of karate, I have a class later today, and then its over to a friends house for our weekly drumming circle. It will be especially grand tonight, since we will also be celebrating that her divorce is finally FINAL, caput, done! I know how great that feels.

Stay cool...
~Renee

My part of Virginia finally got a thunderstorm/rain last night. Its amazing how the grass is starting to "green" again. Which only means, growing and mowing, but I'll take it! Won't have to mow yet, but there is promises of more rain today and tomorrow in the form of storms, but we really, really need it.

Again, karate was great! I should have stayed for the Leadership training, but I had plans for the drumming circle and friends. Next week, I will definately do leadership training. They got to play with coma's. I had mine with me, but I left before that class started.

I am contemplating what Cathe to do today. I was leaning heavily towards Step Jam but maybe a kickboxing. Oh, decisions, decisions.

How's everybody doing? Staying on the move I hope! Will check in later.

Ok so no exercise on Wednesday - went out to dinner with my sister and her family and had to get a cosmo - the "Watering Hole" makes the best ever!!! Ok - no excuses though - feel guilty for sure. :( Made a new start - and did the Step Heaven interval training by Christi -yes another Christi Taylor - I really think she is so creative, lively, fun and enthusiastic and has oodles of natural talent and ability. I need more of her step!!! Anyway those intervals were like Cathe's cardio & weights workout except that her step is so remarkably complicated (well to me:eek:) - actually reminded a bit of Body Max too. She breaks down so well though - and complicates the hell out of something that was just a basic step - I was stumbling my way through some of those intervals - managed to get it just about when she was finishing up. But then she announces -"This is very easy." Oh yeah? Good workout.

Some varmit (sp?) dug up the plant that I got in on Tuesday evening:mad:. I went over to see how it was doing and there it was laying half dead!! Replanted it and watered it - looks like it will make it. :) My sister is coming out to stay tonight - and tomorrow we are shopping at the outlet stores! She is also bringing Harold and Howie - so it will be a house full of dogs this weekend. She also wants to do 30 day Shred with Jillian Michaels - I've heard alot about it but haven't ever tried it - so that should be fun.

Hope everyone has a great weekend - I'll try to check back in and do personals later - it is shaping up to be a busy day though.

Went to Mexico yesterday and it was 114 degrees! We kept to the shadows and into AC restaurants as needed. All in all, we made it and came out with some beautiful things. I got a metal roadrunner and had it can painted. Looks so nice. Was going to keep it for outside, but I now want it in the house somewhere.:D Also purchased 5 large drinking glasses, 3 variety shape bowls, to show off the bread I make, and some Retin-A in hopes to get rid of some of the uneven color in my face and to help with the overwhelming wrinkles I'm getting. Oh the woes of getting older.:( Took us 5 hours to get there and managed to endure the scortching heat for about 6 hours and finally got to the house around 9 pm. Long long day.

We plan on just resting today in AC environment. Today in Vegas is suppose to be 107 degrees. Yikes!

Elle P, I love Shiva Rea DVD's. Great job on your yoga.;)

Michelle, In Mexico their wasn't a lot of places with A/C, but in Vegas everywhere is A/C. Thank God! LOL;)

My Joey is still doing final touches on the internet, it might still take awhile, but it seems fine right now.

Great job on your workouts and walking Ripken. Half of walking is better than not walking at all. Hey, Ask your hubby to join you with your step ups.

Laura, We do have A/C in Vegas, just not so much in Mexico. I'm so grateful to get back from Mexico into an A/C house!

So glad to hear you enjoyed your mom and all the things that need to be done with the new townhouse.

How was plyo legs today?

Renee, Feeling like I miss our rain in Puget Sound Area. I love the rain! We're having fun though.:D

What is drumming circle and coma's? What workout of Cathe's did you decide to do today?

Shoegal, Glad you enjoyed the Cosmo, life is just too short not to.;)

I love Chriti too, she is very good with step workouts. Once you get it though, it is so cool.

In the woods here, there are so many varments that I have to put wire around most of our plants. Not very nice looking, but the plants are at least healthy.

Sounds like you and your sister will spend great times with your workouts. Wish I could be there too. Sounds like a lot of fun.

Have a great day,

Janie

I ended up doing Step Jam today. Always fun! Lots of sweat! Of course this was after I was magically motivated to put up one of my big mirrors. Got out the level, and tools and measuring devices. Took me, oh, about 40 minutes but I got it. Then I did Step Jam! Now I need to put up the other mirror, but don't have the wall hanging things, so next time I go by Lowe's or a hardware store I have got to go in and get those little gadgets. I would even like to get more mirrors, but boy, those things are expensive!!

Ah, a drumming circle. Here is what wikipedia says: "Typically, people gather to drum in drum "circles" with others from the surrounding community. The drum circle offers equality because there is no head or tail. It includes people of all ages. The main objective is to share rhythm and get in tune with each other and themselves. To form a group consciousness. To entrain and resonate. By entrainment, I mean that a new voice, a collective voice, emerges from the group as they drum together. " It is lots of fun. It can last a very long time, and not that long at all. Last night we all found a groove and kept it going for about 30 minutes before stopping and socializing.

A coma is a short sicle like weapon used in martial arts. Mine has wooden handles but plastic "blades". It looks to me that green belts and higher get the real deal type of blades, but they are not sharp, since it is only martial arts and not a real fight. Next week I will be able to stay for the 6-7 class that uses weapons. OH BOY!

Janie, I don't know, but being in Vegas and Mexico this time of year seems for those not of the faint of heart. You go girl! Enjoy! And how is Rolly liking this trip?

I have probably used this quote before. But its the one I'm feeling today. A little motivation for everyone I hope. "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit."
Aristotle

This morning the humidity cleared out and it was not quite so warm. However, Fridays are a "short walk" day for me and Ripken in the morning. Not sure why, but we just stay in our circle and walk and Ripken seems to know what day of the week it is. But it was a nice walk, even if short. Did GS Back, Shoulders, and Biceps this morning. My right elbow is acting up a little again, so I backed off on some of the bicep work, but otherwise it was a great workout. I may stick with the GS dvds for my weight work for the next few weekes before the roadtrip and mix in cardios.

It's Friday night, so you know we are at the boat. It's really nice in Southern Maryland--warm and a really good wind blowing out of the SE. We might even get some rain--boy, we sure to hope so.

Janie: sounds like a good shopping trip to Mexico. Glad you are back with us on the internet.

Laura: yes, please send us some rain. We sure do need it. Is your mom moving to Colorado year round? It's nice that she is going to be living closer to you.

Shoegal: shopping with your sister sounds like fun. Sister is coming to visit at the end of the month, maybe we'll get some shopping in as well when we are not at the Roadtrip.

Elle-P: it's great that you are enjoying the yoga and sticking with it. Good for you on the continued weight loss.

Hi to Shadowpup.
