Getting Our Licks In!

The neighbor's cat returned home--after being gone for one night. Sorry, I forgot to post that good news. Big sighs of relief all around on that one.

Still babying my back. Did total body stretch yesterday and again today. I'm finding that the stretches are really helping. I have much more mobility today than yesterday and was able to do all the stretch moves on TBS, but still not completely back to "normal." Every once in a while, I have to lay flat on the floor and stretch my legs. My hip flexors really tense up--probably overcompensating for my back. But Ripken and I did our 2 mile walk this morning. We went slow and it was a good walk. So, I'm not complaining too much. I'm thinking I might try basic step tomorrow morning. We'll see. I'm going to do TBS one more time today. It really is relaxing. DH thinks I'm overdoing it. But I know my body and it needs to move or it gets all kinked up.

Janie: sister had a diabetic cat. That was her Noodle-man. She can probably give you some advice on how to make the cat more comfortable with the whole process. Personally, I think our pets react alot to how we approach a situation. If we tense up, so do they. If we don't like something, they don't like it, etc. Do you think some transference might be going on here?

Laura: we all fall off the good eating habits wagon every once in a while. Just pick yourself up and climb back on. There's plenty of room for you to get back on board.

Shoegal: what does GSP stand for? That's great that you are doing the rescue dog thing. Hobie sounds like a great pup. Let us know how it goes.

Hi Shadowpup, how was the horse riding today?

Sister: hmmm. I don't remember that incident with Sue and the horses at Uncle Eddie's, although I do have a recollection of you in the farmhouse after getting hurt. Maybe that was it. I just wasn't crazy about horses because I was so good at falling off of them. Plus I got saddled (pun intended) with taking care of older sister's horse when she went to college. Just not my burning passion.

Hi today was much better, did my 3 classes and really enjoyed them, plus really worked hard in my Total Tone class. I made up a new routine, adding a few of the leg exercises in from my missed leg workout. I have really enjoyed the drop sets in Meso 1 at the end of the workouts and so I did drop sets in class, 2 exercises for each body part, and my goodness I felt really worked afterward. I know they felt it too!

Shoegal: wow I have never heard of a foster program for pets, what a great idea! I bet the poor thing is sad. There is a movie coming out with Richard Gerer (SP?) based on a true story about a man who gets a dog, he dies somehow, cancer maybe, and how the puppy would go to the train station everyday for his owner to come home, looks like a real tear jerker for sure. Hope you lose that pound you found!

Janie: How nice that you feel good for your cruise! Worth all that hard work for sure isn't it! Thanks for the thoughts, I know it is over use, and maybe some repetitive use stuff from doing the same movements so many times a day/a week.. The weird thing is that I keep thinking of things I should add, like more cardio, more stretching, more yoga ect... but maybe what my body is saying is MORE REST! LOL!

Michelle: I am so glad kitty found his way home! Funny how much I was worrying about this poor cat I never saw or family I don't know! One less thing to worry about! My DH said the same thing to me the other night when I popped in my AM/PM Yoga Dvd, like don't you think you might be over doing it a little? I feel like I need it more to! Like I should do it every night. It is only 20 minutes and such a good routine! The morning is even easier or more gentle I should say. You might like it if you don't have it, it is by Giam

Good morning everybody. Great day--my back is feeling pretty good today. Ripken and I had a fantastic walk and then I did Basic Step and Stability Ball Abs. I am so happy to be doing something other than a stretch. It's amazing how much your body misses the more intense exercise when something is not quite right.

Laura: my husband is always telling me that I'm overdoing it. Even this morning, as I'm doing Basic Step and the Ab work, he was not happy with me. But, I maintain that those of us who are advid exercisers are much more in tune with our bodies.

Beautiful day here in Virginia. Sun is shining and we are suppose to get into the 60s again. The daffodils and crocus are pushing and will probably be blooming within a week if this weather continues to hold. Springtime--finally!

Well - you will never guess what workout I ended up doing last night!!!!! - It was in my head all day long and I thought - why not - there isn't anything to really stop me. I did STS Meso 1 Disc 1 - it was a wonderful workout!!! I absolutely loved it - and I had equipment spread out all over the place by the time I finished. I did it without printing out a worksheet or anything - I did it just to try it - to see what I'm missing but I pushed myself none-the-less and felt invigorated by the time I finished. After that I did STS Ab Circuits no equipment version. I'm thinking about doing STS discs 2 & 3 the rest of this week to practice. :);)

Michelle - glad the kitty made it home. GSP "German Shorthaired Pointer" - sorry - (the breed of Dot and Scout) - we abbreivate to make it easier on ourselves I guess. I agree that stretching makes a difference on the back - and being gentle with it - I have been more careful with my back ever since my injury - I don't want to experience that again!!

Laura - Your classes sounded great & I am glad that you had a good workout - nothing like a good workout to get motivated. :) I have heard of the Richard Gere Movie - I saw his face on the front of the DVD with a dog and wondered what that was about - it is funny that you mentioned it. Dog movies can certainly put me away - they really tug at my heartstrings for sure.

Janie - Poor Winkle - I'm certain he isn't liking those shots but I am also certain that he knows you aren't trying to hurt him. I bet his skin is sensitive. It must be hard on you as well - Big (((Hug)))) - hang in there. It is hard when they get old and need extra care - my cat Lum (lives with my Mom) is getting up in years and has seen better days - I think some times he can't stand to be touched as well.

Hello to Shadowpup and Catchick - hope everyone has a great day.

Good morning all,

Congratulations Shoegal!!!! Great to have you join the STS crew! Very glad you just did it  and had fun  They really are wonderful workouts :D

It is Tuesday, and this week is getting away from me! It might be a good thing, because I need motivation. I'm tackling the problem of the Hugely Bloated Schedule with the same techniques I used in weight loss. I'm routinely scheduling (eating) more things than are healthy for me in a day (too many calories). My schedule has gotten very fat! Definitely no healthy BMI there! This is making it hard to fit everything in that I want to do, such as stop by this forum :( :( :( And then I feel horribly guilty. But no more.

The first step with major habit change is to start with baby steps, and I've started a few. The first is to get back to the basics of re-learning how to 'schedule' (eat) within a normal range, and I'm beginning with household tasks where I theoretically have the most control and the least urgency. Have all of you been yo-yo time management 'dieters'? Sometimes it seems I have read practically every time management or goal setting book on the planet! But this time, it will be different even though it will take awhile. Hope you don't mind if I use this forum for a little accountability ... and to that end, here's a short report. On the plus side, it won't surprise anyone here to learn I've found a new gadget that will serve as my parallel to a nutrition log! It's for my ipod Touch, called 2Do, and I'm starting small, just making myself enter everything I plan to do for the day, adding any new jobs that squeak in, and then evaluating whether it all 'fit'. On the minus side, there has not been a single day yet where even my beginning list has been achievable even if I had twice as much time available :eek::eek:

More fun things though - the weekend was gorgeous and with my new approach, I did get the horses out on Sunday too! Picante had his own special time. He was ABSOLUTELY FILTHY. He'd been rolling in wet mud, which was caked all over his body. His mane looked like it had dredlocks in it - worse, it was filthy too! SIGH. I almost changed my mind about riding him when I came out to the barn, and saw two reasonably clean horses on one side (Sierra and Atreides), and on the other ... a mud ball that might or might not have a horse in it. How do children and pets always know when to do this????? But he *really* wanted to go, and stood still like a very good boy while I spent the next half hour getting the worst of the mud off. And then another half an hour cutting knots out of his mane, and trimming it up so he wouldn't look too disreputable ... and then decided to wash his tail in a bucket, since it was far too cold for a real bath. Renee, I thought about your being-kicked story as I stood near Picante's hind leg, one hand holding his tail, and the other hand holding a bucket of warm soapy water. No kicking, thank you!

The result was a much cleaner horse! We had a very enjoyable ride. And then for good measure, I took both of the others out. It was scheduled to snow yesterday (which it did, lightly) and it seemed a pity to waste a minute of blue skies.

Workouts are going well. I restarted STS Meso 2 with some trepidation, since so much time has passed since Meso 1 and mostly I've been doing band work, TRX work, and full body circuit style. Nothing heavy. But I was able to use the exact same weights as predicted! One or two even went up slightly. That means I did okay in my 'strength maintenance' program for chest/shoulders/triceps at least, which is nice to know. We'll see about Legs tonight. For cardio, I did Double Wave HIIT on Saturday, and Staehle's Cardio Kickbox Challenge last night. It seems seems to me that I've got something going on in my lungs ... something lingering.

Back later for personals :D

Did STS 35 Plyo Legs. And Insanity Cardio Recovery tonight.

Michelle, So glad the black cat returned home. That's a relief. Stretches/yoga are little miracles, yes they are. Great job walking with Ripken, I bet he loved it. Enjoy your stretch today.

I remember you mentioning about Noodle-man. I'm going to have to ask her about it. I'll also call the vet today, maybe they have also a suggestion or two on how to make Winkle more comfortable.

Transference might be going on. But if they are I don't know. I feel very confident giving his shots. Could be though. Poor little guy. Thank you for the thought and suggestions.

Renee, Any suggestions on giving relief to my kitties shots twice a day?

Laura, Great job on your workouts. I bet the class worked hard too. Remember to add some rest in there somewhere.;)

Michelle, I see you are doing very well. I know how it is when you can't exercise. I remember the need to exercise was indeed sometimes overwhelming for me as well when I was recovering. Good job on the Basic Step.

Awe, Springtime is just around the corner when those bulbs start to come up. Yeah! Enjoy your day.

Shoegal, Good for you doing disc 1! You will also enjoy disc 2 and 3. Keep up the good work!

Thank you for the hug, that makes me feel better. Poor Lum, give him a pet for me, would you? (hugs back at ya).;)

Deborah, It does sound like you have a lot on your plate. Seems you are tackling it the best way you know how. Maybe a time management class is needed. I love your baby step approach.

I have to admitt, I'm a yo you person. Always have been. Would some day like not to do that and just be consistent.

This is the place to be accountable. The good and the bad, the bad and the ugly. LOL:D

Picante sure does sound like he's a character. LOL :D I can envision all the cleaning you had to do for that horse. Why do they get in the mud like that? So glad the others had a chance to go out too.

Great job on Meso 2 and like seeing that you got in some great workouts of other kinds.

Something lingering in your lungs? From the flu or cold? Is it time to see a doctor?

Please take care of yourself. A person can only do so much within a 24 hour span. Do whats most important. (Take care of you).

Well this is technically my rest week, which I had decided to post pone until the end of this month for my 2 week spring break. But I am now wondering about the wisdom of this approach (funny you mentioned a rest Janey) cause I was absolutely dogging it today. I had decided to go all the way back to week one since it is only 60% max weight as opposed to the end of the cycle which is 70% which I know you all know makes a remarkably big difference! But today I was dogging it like I said and even using lower weights on a few of the exercises than I had used (at least on the 2nd X through disc 1) and could do less pushups from the toes than normal, (but I do think my form has improved dramatically and I am able to really get as low as I think you are supposed to go) And I am STARVING! I am trying to get back to normal eating (as Shadowpup referred to) but my hunger is actual stomach growling and uncomfortable, so do I eat more, or let my stomach shrink??

UGH! To many uncertainties today that I am on the right track for the results that I want. I did just now go back through my Workout Manager and I haven't had a real rest week in about 91/2 weeks if I include my 1RM's and that wasn't even a full week of weights. looking back I have really continued to pick up the consistency and the frequency of my workouts...& in addition to the 3 STS weight workouts I am doing one FB weight workout with my class and Pilates 4 times a week and skiing and snowshoeing when I can. I am having a hard time with fitting in the cardio but don't want to take a whole month of STS and lose the gains I have gotten, so I guess I will stay on course with my present course of action and really take it off during my Vacation (other than skiing of course:eek:)

Michelle: Glad you are back in the game and that you took the time to heal yourself and not get worse! Good job listening to your body!

Shoegal: Well what do you know you did STS!! Congratulations it is a amazing results driven workout, please don't let my rant discourage you! I am doing the 6 1/2 month rotation and with me it is more working around my classes, which I obviously can't miss! Thanks I wish you could come to my class too!

Shadowpup: I so can relate to you! I have been in the down swing of productivity and need to pick it up again! I like the sound of your application for your I touch I might have to look that up for my Iphone, sounds very handy in deed. Well I can see how things don't get done, because things always take longer than we anticipate right? I mean just taking the example of your ride with Picante, it didn't sound like you anticipated having to groom first, and tail wash, before the ride which added an extra 30 minutes or so to your time you thought it would take. Stuff like that is always happening to me as well, you know I think I will go for a bike ride to pul the bike out and find it has a flat tire and next thing I know I am patching a tire ect, ect, ect! So don't be to hard on yourself, you are after all an extremely productive and efficient person. Please use us to help you because that will help motivate me as well!

Janey: I am excited for the plyo legs, I really liked the plyo work in P90X and can't wait to do some Cathe style! Did the vet have any ideas to make poor winkie more comfortable for his shot?

Well stomach is still growling and so I think I will go mix myself up a protein shake...

Laura, Seems to me not only do you need rest but that you are not getting enough protein and maybe not enough to eat. When Joey and I finish a workout, espescially a weight lifting one, we make ourselves a protein drink. I put in a T. of 100% whey protein, or hemp protein or even a vegie protein. Then add a banana, some yogurt, or nut milk. That should do it. For Joey and I though I add even more stuff, 1 t. of ea. of fiber therapy, bee pollen, oat and wheat bran, crushed flax seed, L-Glutamine, wheat germ and lecithin. Sometimes, every now and then I add 1/4 t. of pharmaceutical grade creatine powder. We baby our bodies with wonderful substances. We also eat 3 meals a day.

I did call the vet and there is a cat food just for diabetic cats that I will be trying him on this Friday. It may or may not work. We'll see. I told her that we feel like he is not living to his potential and being tortured twice a day. She says that he is feeling the pain of needles and the area we are using is the only area for the shots. He is most likely hurting because of the soreness caused by the needles.

Unfortunately the bag of cat food costs $18.00 per 4 pounds of food. Way too costly. So, we are thinking perhaps (and this is only if the food works) that we will give him food until the bag is gone and while he is eating the food his neck will heal. After he is done with the food, continue on with the shots until he complains. Then start him on the food again. This is only if the food works for him. If all else fails, we will have to put him down. I just don't think it's right to torture him. I won't do that to him any longer. But, lets hope the food will work for him. Positive thinking right?

Janie

I decided to do - just like out of the clear blue - Low Impact Circuit. I can't tell you how much fun I thought this was!!! I don't think any one of us does this workout very often - but let me sing its praises - 3 circuits filled with step/ and a blast followed by strength training then abs and a deep stretch. I had to opt out of some of the push ups - because of STS the day before - and I thought perhaps I shouldn't be doing any weight work - but I was having too much fun to stop. :D I was searching around for something to do - something cardio and found this - I thought well, if nothing else I could do an all cardio premix - but the workout itself looked so enjoyable I did the whole thing. Was glad I did!!!;) If you can - go back and revisit this one.

Janie - the food sounds like a good idea and I hope Winkle takes to it. I think you have a good plan in place to help him. I will send over some positive thoughts for him though. :) I am so glad that you are having such good workouts - that protein shake sounds packed full of nutrients - how does it taste?

Shadowpup - I can't even imagine Picante rolling around in the mud - this big horse - I think the image is too funny. I'm glad that he got to get out - and he was such a good boy too. How do the three of them get along together? I think we would all be glad if you use this forum to help with accountability with "scheduling." I think it might be helpful for all of us. No - aboslutely not surprised to hear that you found a device to help with this - if you didn't then I would be surprised!!!! Michelle mentioned the flowers coming up - it reminded me of you and all of your bulbs - any sign of them?

MIchelle - I think yesterday we posted around the same time - your post wasn't there when I started - but was there when I finished. Glad your back is healing -and that you got in a good workout and I know Ripken is probably very happy you got in the walks!!! Snow is melting fast here but there is still plenty of snow in our valley - we are always a bit behind everyone else - so I won't see my daffodils for awhile.

Laura - sounds like you need a rest big time - you'll be surprised in the difference it will make in your workouts - but yes - we have to plan for that too!! I agree that everything takes longer than we think - I find that all day long - I set about on a task and think it won't take me but an hour - half a day passes and then I get done - its maddening!!! I also think you need to eat more - with all this activity your body needs it - if it isn't getting enough it will go into stravation mode and you don't want that!!!

Going to get moving - hope you all have a great day!!

Did BBL Cardio Axe today. Tonight will do Insanity Cardio Abs. Looking forward to that.

Shoegal, I love LIC! I'm so glad you had a good time with it. It's not easy one either. Well, nothing of Cathe's is easy is it? LOL:confused: Good job.

Our protein shakes taste great. Sometimes we use berries instead of bananas and it still tastes good. It could be that we are use to it though.

Thank you so much for the positive thoughts for Winkle. He'll need them I think.:)

Take care everyone, I'll check back later.

Janie

Well I decided that the whole family needed a 'mental health day'!:D So I let the girls stay home from school (it was and still is snowy, but we could have made it). The girls, as you know were spending the better part of their school week with my mom while she was in Boulder and we have had very busy weekends with little time at home, so we had a very lazy day together at home. Super delicious and I think important for all of us. I also took it super duper easy with a lot of down time. I had planned on running on the treadmill after my Pilates class but by that time the roads were really bad and the snow very heavy so I decided it was better I got home safely.

I have decided to continue this week with week 1 of Meso Cycle 1, mainly because I hate quitting in the middle of a week and 2ndly because I did miss one Back & Triceps and one Leg workout in Meso 1, so this will make them up. But next week I have decided to not do STS, only teach my classes, do cardio, and maybe one lighter FB workout like Push/Pull or Supersets. The following week I will either do STS Meso 1 week 2 or do GS then I am on to my break...phew!

As far as eating, I am a big eater, I rarely skip meals if ever and I have 4-5 smaller meals a day or at least 3 big ones that fill me up so I don't need a snack. I also do Whey Protein but lately only mix it with water most days. I also take Amino Acids to fuel my muscles. Lately I am not getting enough veggies as I am so busy it is hard to find the time to cook... I do still have 20+ to my goal weight and I tend to eat 1,200 o 2,000 calories a day, so I don't think that is low enough for starvation mode, do you?

Shoegal: I love Low Impact Circuit, it is a great workout! Maybe I will do that next week as a good combo for cardio and weights! Thanks for the idea. It is so great to hear your excitement about your workouts! It is very motivating.

Janie: I think that sounds like a good plan with switching the food with the shots to allow poor Winkies skin to desensitize! I used to make smoothies like yours, well at least with the yogurt and banana and berries, maybe I will start adding a banana in again for quick sugar source, but the calories were really getting up there with all the extra's so I have been going with water.

I put in STS disc 2 last night - was surprised I made it through. I had some trouble with my power tower that got me all flustered and MAD  that I spent a bunch of time messing with it and not working out. Finally, I called in DH to fix the problem - much more handy than I am and got down to business. I love doing the pull ups with it - of course my feet are on the ground - even then it is hard!!! - but I love the feeling. That turned out to be a great purchase - glad I have it. As for the work out - I enjoyed it a great deal but can clearly see the need to know what weights to pick up. I did pretty well though - and I'm just getting my feet wet here.

DH and I are still making are way through the adventures of Sherlock Holmes. I have been reading while driving into work and think that I have a futures in reading books aloud professionally !!! ;) Good stories I have to say - I didn't realize that I would enjoy them this much.

Laura - nope - sounds like you got your eating all worked out - no starvation there!!! I did not realize that you have put all that thought into your diet. You could probably teach me a think or two. I never take extra protein - but I can see the need for it and realize that I don't have near enough in my current diet. I think I'll look into the whey protein - I was thinking about it last night. Oh my goodness - I want you as my mother - let me stay home - grab a little mental health day - I have been wanting to do that like you would not believe.
Your girls are soooo lucky.

Janie - these shakes you and Laura talk about with bananas and berries all sound super good - YUM!! How did Cardio abs go??? I don't know but Cardio Axe sound brutal hard!!! I'm not sure I could keep up.

I want to do something tonight as fun as LIC was before - any suggestions??

Morning all! I am popping online between meetings; we've named this "March Madness" because of all the urgencies right now :) But I did want to at least say hello, and do a few accountability posts :)

Workouts - pretty good, though I cut back intensity and time to accomodate other things. I did HIIT Double Wave, TRX Back Biometrics, and Meso 2 disk 2 (Legs) is tonight assuming we don't go out to dinner (if we do, it will be a shorter HIIT).

On time management, I'm *so* reminded of when I did my SparkPeople lifestyle change for weight loss :) I've continued to write down the personal actions I'm assigning myself, focusing there rather than on work. Each day I'm reviewing my full set of goals (using a program called "single-step"). I'm going through my 2Go Ipod touch checklist based on the goals, and moving things to other times if I'm sure they won't fit. I'm checking things off as I go. Just those three things are already making a difference, though I will say it has been embarassing to realize that I have no *clue* as to how long the personal items take. It's much easier for work. But I'm ending the day with more like one or two hours of leftover scheduled tasks rather than five or six, so that's an improvement.

It was a real eye-opener to realize that I have been beating myself up for not regularly achieving what three or four people could do in an evening, instead of being happy for what I get done. Negative self talk does not make the work go faster.

It has also been an eye-opener that I have to *make* myself schedule in fun personal time items when I go to a list. My tendency in the past has been to focus on the have-to's, which meant less time for DH, horses, gardens, fitness, nutrition, family. The closets got clean, and I got unhappy, and stopped. This time I am requiring myself to admit that those are worthy of being my highest priorities, and *leave them on my list*. In fact, yesterday because I was tired from having blood drawn for a med test, I actually switched out my STS workout for a shorter stretch plus horseback riding, rather than the "clean the closets" caliber of task. The house is even cleaner, because I put "living in beautiful surroundings" on my goal list. Can it be, that the secret to true time management is to spend most time on what I care about most? Too early to tell. I expect to spend a month in this phase, to get a solid habit established.

Shadowpup: A client told me on monday a quote that I love " A clean house is the sign of a wasted life" although I admit I like to have a clean house I love the quote because it reminds me to put it in perspective of a life well lived, I mean really when I am on my death bed I doubt I will be wishing I spent more of my time keeping my house clean! And nobody can do everything so you do have to prioritize your time and not get to focused on tasks, remember to add those 'fun personal' things do the best you can and well forget the rest!

Shoegal: I like STS a lot and like the results even more, it did take me awhile to get into the speed of Meso 1 and having my 1RM's really did take the guess workout of lifting. LOL! Definitely no starving over here!! Trying to eat good nutrition to feed my body. I actually did have a Dr. a couple of years ago tell me he thought my body was in starvation mode so that is when I started to change how I ate and how often and more fats and lean meats less processed foods. I am far from perfect though...

I felt more energized today after a pretty restful day yesterday, I ended up not doing the treadmill after my class because it was snowing pretty heavily and the road were supper bad. Figured it was a better choice to get home. I did STS Backs & Bicpes today and I might try to do a short cardio if I can...later but that is looking less likely as I approach the whole dinner/bath/bed routine!

Today was STS disc 36 Shoulders Biceps & Triceps.

Laura, I wished my mom would have done something with us when it was a school day. How wonderful that you do those things with your girls. What a super mom.:)

I like your plan for next week. It sounds like a much better plan for exercises. Now that's how you stay healthy. Good job.

There is a big gab between 1200 and 2000 calories, but then again, you do want to confuse the body as often as you can.(no starvation mode there) For me (because of my age) I can only have between 1200-1500 per day, depending how much exertion I do.

The protein drink I make for us counts as a 2nd meal (lunch, I think there is about 300 calories in the drink). We eat only 3 meals a day, every now and then we'll have 4. Again depending how many calories we burn during that day.

Shoegal, I do the same as you with the tower and pull ups. You are doing such a great job getting your feet wet.

I can't wait to start Shelock Holmes while vacationing. Thank you so much for your comments on them. I know it will be a great read.

Cardio Axe is not as difficult as it sounds. You do move your body in all kinds of sexy ways, but man it is so much fun. I really feel it in my waist and bum bum and even my legs. Cardio abs was hard. What can I say.

I think you would be able to keep up for sure.;)

Shadowpup, Great job on your workouts and time management. Glad to see you having extra time for left during the day. And putting out fires successfully. Not easy I'm sure. I don't know all that your job entails, but I have a feeling it's harsh. Oh, I think being positive is a great mental lifter for sure. Just keep thinking that way.

Laura, You are so funny. I wouldn't want to be on my death bed thinking about house cleaning let alone if I did a good job. LOL:eek: That tickled me.

Good job on STS workout. It's still snowing there? Stay warm and cuddly.

Janie

Good Morning,

Did Insanity Pure Cardio today. Tomorrow will be my last workout in this rotation. Then after that, I will be able to do whatever I want. Love the freedom of being able to choose. I'll write a review/results tomorrow.

You all must be at work. Will talk later and nudge you all to post.

Janie

Happy Friday everyone. I'm afraid I had a rather lousy workout last night. I attempted to do Christi Taylor's Stepsational - I had thought that this was a perfect choice. I have to say though - that learning it again didn't go as smoothly as I thought it would and I grew frustrated. I made a lot of stupid mistakes and I could've kicked myself or pulled my hair out :mad::mad: - so instead I just stopped. I didn't even consider putting it back on. So - I'm down on myself today. :( . This evening Rex and I are having dinner with friends so I know I won't be able to make this up - but I'll get on it this weekend.

Janie - must feel good to be near the end of your rotation - and yes - the freedom to just chose what workout you want is a rather nice feeling - or just to get back to some of those workouts you've been missing. Although - sometimes it is nice to have something predetermined too!!! I'd like to hear how you feel after all of those tough workouts!!!

Laura -I admit that I'm sort of jealous of the snow you are getting - I'm afraid we are finished here with snow - it promises to rain all weekend - but I guess then the flowers can grow. :) I really like the couple of STS workouts I did - and I think I'm going to go back - finish my testing and get going. It is very motivating to work out with that crew.

Michelle and Renee must be getting geared up for Meso III after their rest week -maybe you'll have some time to check in this weekend.

Shadowpup - yes -you must make room for the fun stuff - Like Laura says - nobody is going to be lying on their death beds thinking, "Gee, I wish I would have worked more." In everyone's hectic life nowadays - I suppose spending time with family gets pushed aside - when it is just as important as that work deadline. I think striving to be a better person is a worthy ambition though - and that is what I attempt to do.

We are picking up our foster puppy tomorrow - I'm excited. Can't wait to meet this new boy!!!

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!!

Didn't post Wednesday or workout because I was on the road by 5:15 am to get up north for a meeting at the Pentagon. Got home Wednesday night, made a big fuss over Ripken because he went to the groomer and is oh so handsome, then I walked Ripken, ate, and went to sleep. Yesterday was back to normal, almost. Walked Ripken and we are rolling along now--my back is feeling good. Did Low Impact Step and the first stretch from total body stretching. I'm keeping the cardio low impact until I feel that I have my full range of motion back on kicks and such. Today is supposed to be a rest day but I'm thinking since I missed Wednesday I'll either do a short step workout and a stretch or all of one of Cathe's stretch dvds.

Shadowpup: sounds to me like maybe Picante rolled in the mud just to be sure he got some extra attention. He knew that you wouldn't let him stay dirty and he knew that he was due a ride. Smart horse. I too have been feeling like I'm off my A-game this week but I think that is due to not having total mobility and functionality because of my back strain. My feeling is I'll get stuff done when I can--still have to make time to stop and smell the roses (Ripken would say "and walk the pup.")

Shoegal: German short-hair pointer--got it. And welcome to STS. I think the first meso was harded than the 2nd mainly because the routines move so fast. Your rest time between sets is shorter and you have to keep rolling. In the 2nd meso you get a full minute break between most sets and it really is nice.

Speaking of STS: sister and I start Meso 3 tomorrow. Oh boy.

Janie: sister also does the protein drink thing. I haven't gone there yet. I want one that tastes good. For some reason I've got it in my head that these protein drinks taste icky. Am I wrong?

Laura: snow? Really? Golly, we've had 60+ degree weather all week and I'm loving it. I'm still not sure how you "count" your exercise because you teach all those classes. I haven't taken a mental health day in ages and ages. Many, many years ago, I would occasionally do that but I didn't have gobs of leave piled up back then either. Now I do, so mental health days are just a regular day of annual leave.

be back later,
~michelle

I got a new application on my Iphone called Run Keeper (Free) and I played around with it today. It is my active rest day & it was such a nice day in Boulder that I took a walk this morning on Cottonwood Trail, where I normally jog sometimes as it is flat and short 2.5 miles according to the posted map. I haven't been there since last fall. My little application tells me I walked 2.2 miles in 40:34 minutes at an average pace of 18:24 for a 203 calorie count, than a friend called a little later and asked if I wanted to walk with her around Wonderland Lake, another easy short trail and I thought why not? It is such a pretty spring day! and used my gadget again for fun and we walked 1.59 miles in 34:09 minutes at a slower pace of 21:28, probably due to the talking, and 148 calories ! And then me and my daughters stopped at the Reservoir in Nederland on the way home and walked another 1:30 miles in 40:37 at a nice moseying pace of 31;11 and 133 calories. So the day ended up being around a 5 mile day of easy going walking with breaks in between. Kind of different but fun to play with my gadget and see how those things add up! Doubt it cancels out my dinner out with the girls where I ate to the point of being uncomfortably full:eek::(:p:confused: (something I rarely do anymore :DI realized as I was feeling full tonight) but it does help buffet the damage. 484 calories and I never even felt like I 'Exercised' more just enjoyed the day, a friend, and my girls!

Janey: would love to hear your review of your rotation! Does Joey comment to! I will sometimes do a shake for breakfast if I am in a super hurry and don't have time for real food.

Shoegal: sorry your workout was so off. You have had some really good ones lately so don't feel bad. It is the long term consistency that matters the most and you have that in SPADES!!! Just do the STS 1RM's with 3 stars or more and you will be fine. There is some adjustments anyway!

Michelle: nice to hear from you again! Wondered what you were up to! Boulder was beautiful and most have at least been in the high 50's. Still spring is our wetest time of year with the most snow, but the temperatures can be nice. The ski resorts can feel like a beach with the snow reflecting the sunshine, and the parking lots are rivers of melting snow and mud, sometimes on a real warm day you will see someone skiing with snow pants and short sleves or even a bikini top. I had no IDEA until living here what it was like.

Shoegal, I'm so sorry about your workout. Before I do any workout, I view it or fast forward the night before. It really helps with those kinds of frustrations. I know where you are coming from.:(

I agree, there is good in rotations and freedom to choose what workout you want. I'm so longing to do other workout right about now.

Tomorrow is my last one and I'll give my review and results to all. I have to tell you in advanced though. There were big time improvements. But, I have to be honest and tell you, I still have a ways to go for my goal since when I started I was 20+ pounds overweight. I gained so much during my hard times. I had lots of pity parties.

OMG! I'm so excited for you and your foster puppy. What a lucky doggie.;)

Michelle, Low Impact Step (not an easy one), stretching and walks are all good. So glad your back is feeling better. Would love to see Ripken's new hair cut.:)

Congratulations for making it to Meso 3. You are going to love these workouts the best. This is where you'll see improvements all across the board. Good Luck!

Our protein drinks are good, but we've been having them for years, and our taste buds are use to them. Haven't offered anyone any, so don't know for sure. We like them though.

Laura, Great job on walking and burning up those calories. What a cool gadget you have there.

Joey is commenting on my figure. He looked me up and down and said, "you are looking really good Janie". He also said I was getting a little chubby and didn't want to tell me. Bless his heart.

Have a good one everyone,

Janie
