Fluidity Update

Oh my gosh! I cannot say enough about how I love my Fluidity Barre and workouts. I've had it for a month and try to use one of the workouts around 5 days a week - mostly as add-ons as they are very short (anywhere from 20 minutes to 40 for the full body advanced).

Yes, I know it's pricey. I sold my P90X package (is that almost blasphemous? LOL) because I figure I can lift weights just about any way, but flexability is a different story for me. It's something that as I age (I'm 43) I really want to keep in check. I have all of Cathe, the TLTs, and most of Jari Love - so resistance workouts and cardio I've pretty much got covered. Then - I got my bar.

I have NEVER done workouts like these. I love Michelle Austin - she's crisp, precise, encouraging, and motivating. She has 2 background exercisers - one showing beginner positions / moves, and one showing advanced - she does the intermediate. For those of you who were moaning about "back fat" not moving - try fluidity before you go to that plastic surgeon! The pretzel and flat back moves in the advanced workout hit ALL of those little muscles all through your back in ways you never dreamed of. OH MY!

My limbs are more "flowing" if that makes any sense. I'm down another half inch in each thigh - and it's been a month. Every time Michelle strengthens a muscle - she stretches it. So essentially after every series of movements, you stretch.

This is not a sweatfest workout, and it's not yoga. It's hard in a way I've never done, but cannot imagine ever not doing. For me (and of course we're all different), selling P90X and opting for Fluidity was a fabulous choice!

Lorrie,
Are lots of the moves like ballet or formal dance moves? What exercises have you found particularly effective? (Or DOMS producing?).

Glad you're loving it!
Mattea

I am so glad to hear you are loving this. I would LOVE to get Fluidity but I just moved and I really don't have the room for it. I know on other forums people have mentioned using the videos without the actual "FLUIDITY" bar. Is this something that you think can really be done and still be just as effective?

Thanks!:)

Mattea I don't know much (ok - anything) about ballet or dance. I found the "fold-over seat work" where you hold onto the bar and step all the way back, so you look like a sideways L, extend one leg back and to tiny pulses or side lifts, with toes either pointed or foot flexed to be really effective for my hamstrings and hip flexors. Also the quad moves (first position thighs) remind me of the leg cond drills in KM, but different enough to be unique.

Jennifer - I think some of the moves could be done using a chair, but definitely not all of them. The use of the barre for some of the upper body work (pullups eg) and the flat back work requires something more stable - which this is!

ETA: I am liking this enough to look into the Lotte Berke method workouts that Marie recommended and pehaps also the iballets as well.

Lorrie -
What is the total cost of it? It's been a while since I've seen the infomercial but I do remember seeing that you were trying it. (I was waiting for your opinion!) ;)

Hi Darlene! I also ordered the seat and thigh DVD. It comes with the beginner, intermediate, and advanced workouts - all of which, BTW, are different - each has its own unique moves and strengths. It also comes with a ball and 2 resistence bands - used for shoulder work. The whole package was $250.00. It comes fully assembled. It folds up and rolls away on wheels. Like I said - it is pricey. But I've found that I'm really getting my money's worth.

Candi - let me know if you cave. Since we have so many of the same body issues I'll be curious to know what you do.

Thanks for the info Lorrie, a little too pricey for me right now, but maybe some good incentive to pull out the ballet training and start doing some leg drills of my own:)

Lorrie,

I have looked at the informercial several times. Michelle method looks so interesting. I am seriously thinking about getting it. But of course I will never give up my Cathe's.

Thanks so much for the info and your results. Please keep us updated.

I think that's one of the reasons I love it so much - I don't have to give up on my Cathe workouts. It simply enhances them. If anyone is seriously considering this - well - you know my opinion. But I did think I saw something from someone who didn't like it and actually sold her package - I'd be curious to know why.

what results have you had with the area beneath the butt? this is my biggest problem area. My friend bought the system and I am thinking about it but it is expensive, that is the only thing that has held me back so far. But if it would get rid of that area for me, then I would buy it in a heart beat.

Hi Lorrie!

I just wanted to share something with you....I saw your post a couple days ago about the Fluidity workout and saw the mention of the "L" position and tiny pulses behind. I had two classes yesterday and did that move in both classes...this was the sequence I did:

8X Point & pulse
8X Flex
8X Point
8X Flex
4X P
4X F
4X P
4X F
2X P
2X F
2X P
2x F
16X Single Point & flex

Then, I switched legs and did it again. We used a chair that we just put our hands on and leaned over to an "L" positon. Let me tell you...I awoke in the middle of the nite and my hammies and glutes were sooo sore I could hardly roll over. OUCH! I am afraid to hear what my students are going to say! Ha! I am sure a big part is because I did it TWICE yesterday. Anyway, wanted to thank you for the idea and to let you know that my students will be in for a treat with this move quite often! :7

RE: Hi Lorrie!

can you explain this exercise to me? I am not sure I know what you are talking about but would love to know as I teach a class weekly also and I need that dreaded area to tone up more. I am contemplating buying the fluidity barre. price is a factor but if someone could tell me that it would totally tone up that area under the butt and along the sides of the thighs even 90% I would buy it in a heart beat because with all the lunges, squats, fire hydrants, leg presses etc... that I do, nothing has made it budge.

Hi Laura!

Are you talking about the move I did in class yesterday? If so:

We each took a chair and we FACED the chair and put our hands down on the seat part. (which puts you into a bent-over position) I told them to keep their shoulders directly above their hands which puts your body into an "L" shape. Your face is looking down at the seat part of the chair. Then, we took our right leg and extended it straight back and pulsed up (very small pulses) without over-extending. All the "work" was in our glutes and hammies. Does that makes sense? Hope that helps and BTW, that is my problem area too soo let's see if it works! :7

RE: Hi Laura!

Okay Debbie...now ya got me REALLY interested.

I'm going to try this move tonight. I've been doin major backside work to tighten that area up and Lorrie's reviews look promising. (although she lost me when she said that she sold her P90X - this was just TOO much for me to handle - :7 :7 sorry Lorrie;-) ).

Thanks for the post and I miss ya Debbie!! I am still doing classes once a week, but we continue to use Cathe's work for the most part. I'm such a chicken to go completel on my own!!
