Creepy?

OK, I'm going to stay out of the crankiness here (though it's rather entertaining for a 3rd party) and just say that just because kids are "indoctrinated" or whatever at a young age, doesn't mean they'll still feel the same as adults. I have very different opinions than my parents and vote for a different party than they raised me to support. So even if I was singing songs and so forth for their beliefs as a child, it doesn't affect me today. Plus kids can't vote, anyway, so who cares what they think. :p:p:p:p:p

The one I do find offensive is not what it says so much as that it is written huge and makes me have to scroll more often to get to the actual posts.

That's my signature line. :) Sorry for the size, just trying to make a point.

I will never support anyone or anything that limits how many children someone should have .

BINGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok I am still on this children thing...

Who is going to stand up for the kids? I get so mad when I read about or see people being bad to kids. A neighbor of a friend has 8 kids with 4 different fathers. The kids are all over the place, miss quite a bit of school and live in cramped conditions. Of course they are on welfare. She had to have an ambulance ride to the hospital to deliver the last one because she had no car or ride. The kids spend all day outside without a guardian and they destroy neighbors' property, steal things, etc. They were caught on tape scratching a car and I mean every panel was destroyed and the cops couldn't press charges because the kid was only 6 and they can't go after mom. I have been there when the baby screams for hours and no one picks it up. How does that not drive her or anyone in the house crazy? Why would she continue to have more kids? She admitted she gets more money from the govt!! I guess I am rational enough to realize that some days no amount of money is worth taking care of an extra child. As much as I love my children I know when enough is enough. But now why should I have to pay for these kids?

Just something to change the direction of the post.

Sorry - Dog to the vet for spa day and off to have hair cut and colored. Then on to two football games.

That crap about newbies is a serious distortion of what LauraMax was saying and was never a statement made by LauraMax.

For those of you who think Baylian is being picked on for being a “Newbie” pay closer attention. Her profile obviously states that she is a “Catheite” which means she has posted at least a couple hundred posts. How are you folks getting “Newbie” from that!

LauraMax’s point was that Baylian has over 100 posts the vast majority of which end up having some inflammatory and off topic aspect to them.

And it doesn’t matter whether or not you understand what is so offensive about Baylian’s sig file. Obviously LauraMax and others have had a strong reaction to it, a reaction so strong she felt the need to point it out to Baylian that she found it offensive.

Considering this is the Cathe boards and is not some political board, if someone told me they were having that strong of a reaction to my sig file and that it was upsetting to them, I would change the damn thing and ask questions later. Not act like a petulant 5 year old who doesn’t want to share his toys with his friends.

How's that for a voice of reason Baylian?

I do NOT have to change my signature just because it peeved someone off or better yet made them think . .

and since you brought it up - where are the rules that ones posts have to be of a certain percentage in this forum, certain percentage in that column, blah blah blah.

Unreal . .

Oh Baylian, Baylian, you continue to miss the point. Probably b/c you want to--there's no better defense than deflection from one issue to another, esp. when you know you're guilty.

Actually what I find most offensive about it is the word "breed." As if middle & upper income women have babies, but lower income women "breed."

How unbelievably narrow minded & bigoted. I thought this kind of viewpoint had pretty much disappeared over the last few decades. How very sad that I was wrong.

Totally unreal!

I'm gonna get flamed BUT......

Baylian and Hiitdogs you two seem to be constantly butting heads and flinging things back and forth. Sometimes I'm afraid to even read a post where the 2 of you are responding. Politics, race, ethnicity aside, does it always have to get ugly between you two. I opened a thread titled Creepy, thinking I was looking at scary Halloween stuff or something and end up with Nazi concentration camps!!!! WTH? Maybe the original movie WAS just to see if anyone else thought it was creepy??? Maybe no one was comparing anyone to anyone??

I personally don't comment on religion, republican, democrat etc things, and you are both more than welcome to your opinions. Especially in a forum called "Open Discussion". But maybe not everyone wants to read a fight about it everyday.
And before you say it, I know, I don't have to read it but it seems like it's just about EVERY thread now. Financial bailout, creepy, presidential debate, economy, etc etc etc. I open a thread to hear others opinions about who won the debate and end up finding out how you 2 don't "fact check" or "say who the original source is". Come on already.

I'm sure I'm not winning Miss Popularity today but I really think it's time we toned it down a little bit. Remember words hurt sometimes. Especially words like Hitler and Nazi. And for those of us whose last name is Neumann, maybe we would prefer NOT to have to relive it on an exercise board.
elliemom

You know, we all have different things that we are interested in or get passionate about. You maybe interested in things or passionate about issues that I am not and vice versa. And that is perfectly fine. Just like you stated your opinion above and on other threads, I have stated an opinion on the threads that you mentioned. Just like you have the right to disagree with me and telling me, as you have done above, I have the right to disagree with someone else and state it.

That being said, whereas I may not agree with some other people's point of view, I respect it as long as it is offered in a civil manner, is not set out to bash and doesn't contain messages of intolerance. I realize that for some people I come across as very opinionated and combative, and I admit that at times I get carried away, I try not to but I am not perfect either.

I am more than happy to listen to other opinions and get challenged on my view. I don't see it as head-butting, I view it as an exchange of opinions that may help me and hopefully the other person grow. I don't think we all need to agree on everything, life would be pretty boring if we were all the same, with the same opinions and views on life, politics, religion, exercise ......

That being said, in this particular thread I don't feel that Baylian and I "butted heads", I don't think it got uncivil, Baylian posted, I found the reference to Hitler Youth uncalled for and I pointed it out and explained why, in her comeback she didn't insult me personally. In other threads I felt that Baylian was singling me out to personally attack me and I responded to her more sharpely than I probably should have and whereas I won't apologize for what I have said, I apologize for how I said it.

Elliesmom, I am sorry that your expectations on the Creepy thread being about Halloween weren't met, I have opened threads were I expected something else but I don't blame other people for my expectations not being met, my expectation is my own problem not other people's fault. I am also sorry that you feel that I don't fact check or give a source, I am not sure what you are referring to, I think I have, aside from instances where I wrote about my personal experience in the field that I work in. I am sorry that your expectations about how and what I am supposed to post were yet again not being met.

I think Baylian's signature line rubs some people the wrong way. I totally agree with the statement as such that people shouldn't have kids if they can't afford it, it's the word "breed" when referring to humans that may get people riled up.

That being said, I am stunned and sadened by how this thread got ugly so fast.

Very well written as always Carola.

Were you away selling a house? I hope so.

No, I was hiding underneath my desk from the punches that were being thrown back and forth this morning  And struggling to find the right words to say what I think without fueling the flames.

Matter of fact

we will let this thread die . .does that make me a thread killer or something like that?

Baylian,

I didn't say you had to change your sig file.

I said that if someone told me my sig file was offensive to them, I would change it.

Your sig currently reads:

“If you can't feed your kids - don't breed anymore and expect me to pay for it.
And don't get a pet if you can't afford the proper care either!”

It wouldn’t cost you anything to modify it to:
“If you can’t feed your kids – stop having more and expecting me to pay for it.
And don’t get a pet if you can’t afford the proper care either!”

It gets your point across with out referring to the poor as dumb animals.

unfortunately, the signature line does make me think...it makes me think that whomever came up with the saying the first place perhaps doesn't think much at all...

There are people here, whose signature line I have not liked for a long time. I just don't say anything about it, it is their line.

Good for you. But I have every right to be offended by her sig line and express my dislike. I think it is the most bigoted, prejudiced saying I've seen/heard in a long time. And quite frankly it makes me think less of the people who agree with it and post it places (be it their car, their signature line or their forehead).
