Clean eaters....what are you giving out as Halloween treats?

Imagine a small child finding, say, tofu treats in her Halloween treat bag. That could be fun just for the sake of imangining it. They'll throw non junk food away without eating it. I like Katie's not getting the stuff she likes but I pick out things from my kids bags that I like anyway if I am in the mood. My girls are having their teeth cleaned that day too. I have no idea what I'll get but it will be candy.

Kelly I am eating one right now.

RE: Clean eaters....what are you giving out as Hallowee...

Part of living a balanced life is enjoying foods from all food groups in moderation including the stuff from "others" food group....heck, it's once a year!! Come to my house kids...I'll have candy if DH doesn't eat it first;-) . If I was a child and received tofu I think I would die, but I would first make sure it didn't touch and "contaminate" the rest of my good candy;-).

I've been grappling with this issue too. I feel some sense of responsibility here to walk the walk and talk the talk about clean eating even if I don't have it perfect yet.

I was thinking of giving snack bags of fat free pretzels or popcorn. However, I agree with the other posters that this should be a fun time. In my area, nobody makes homemade treats anymore as they are certain to get tossed in the trash. So, what to buy is the question.

I wish they made snack size granola bars or protein bars.

Brenda, they do make snack size granola bars!!! Quaker has some pre-packaged ones that I saw at Target. I ended up buying snack sized animal crackers, cheeze-its and goldfish. Not the healthiest but I just didn't want to give out chocolate. Plus if I don't get a lot of kids, then I can still have them as snacks. I think each pack was 70 cal or so.

TOOTHPASTE!!! Anyone remember that hilarious scene from the movie Mermaids where Cher gives the poor little trick-or-treaters mini tubes of toothpaste?

But seriously, I agree with the pro-candy folks: it's one day a year, let the kids enjoy the candy and have fun. I have friends who let their kids eat on Halloween night until they are sick and then throw away the rest. I always ration my son's so he usually finishes his Halloween candy just in time for the Easter candy!}(

I also buy candy I don't care for. It's easier for me to keep my hands off :)

Jeanette - Wow, I'm going to check out my local Target and see if they have any. Thanks. I guess I don't get out much.

Chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate. And guess who eats the leftovers? Mr. Nancy324 himself. That's why he makes me buy too much.

I went to look at oriental trading. I love the pumpkin squishy balls and the little character balls with the putty eyes that squish out when you squeeze them. These are good ideas too.

I looked at Oriental Trading Co too. I liked the little bendable monster thingys!:) They were pretty cheap. I haven't decided what to do yet.
