Hi Everyone! In order to give the majority of you a fair chance to receive STS and preview a couple of workouts I have decided to make my start date Monday, February 16th, 2009. Feel free to start STS earlier (or later for that matter) if you like. The Cathe TV "STS Check In" programming will always be there to view when you are ready for it.

I will post more details regarding this STS programming within a few days but for now I'm just seeing if you have any requests of things you would like us to include in this specific programming. Things that would assist you in getting the most out of your STS rotation. Of course I can't promise to include all these ideas, however, I will try to consider the possibilities.

Thanks in advance for posting your suggestions here :).

Hi Cathe,

Since you asked, I have a suggestion. Could you post form pointers for the triceps pushups? I don't know what I was doing wrong. I was having difficulty stabilizing my lower body and my upper body was having difficulty keeping proper form. I ended up with a terrible pec cramp on my brachial plexus. OUCH! Any suggestions or tips will be so appreciated.

Wendy

I have no suggestions, just WoooHooo'ing about your starting STS on the 16th.

Gives me an extra week to re-do the 1RM's that I went over 20 reps on!!!

Melissa, there were two execises that I went over 20 reps. I didn't realize that we had a max rep number until I went to go input my number into the calculator.

I started STS on Monday, but would love to do the rotation with Cathe - just don't think I can make it fit my schedule.:( I am taking vacation the last week in May so starting on the 16th would put me right in the middle of Mesocycle 3.

Modification suggestions...

for people who may have issues w/neck, wrist, shoulder, or whatever body part, that pertains to that particular exercise.

For example, I have problems w/my neck & surrounding area when doing exercises such as overhead press, seated/standing front press, overhead extensions, etc. What would be a good alternative or modifier?

Not sure if I'm explaining correctly, but hopefully you get the jist...

Thank you!!!

Cathe - I'm starting on the 16th TOO!!!

Oh, Cathe, before I read your post, I was thinking I would try to bang ou the last of my 1RM testing and start on Feb. 8th - even though my planned start date was the 16th. Now that I know you are starting on the 16th - I'm going to wait! How exciting that we will be doing it together. Will you be doing the 6 month rotation I hope? That is my plan!

Oh, Cathe, I just received mine tonite and starting on the 16th with you is plenty of time for me to preview before we start. I'm hoping you will give lots of form pointers while working out. I am so excited to workout with you but still gives me another week of your February rotation.

Thanks,
Veronika

I think you give a lot of form pointers within the video, so I'd love to see some things on different subjects, (not that you shouldn't give form pointers, if that is what people want, because that is very important) but I'd like to see a variety of subjects. Maybe during the last mesocycle we should be uping our protein (is uping a word?), or just reminders to eat clean. I'd also love some discussion about what is happening to our muscles during certain phases. I'm still not sure what hypertrophy is exactly and what that does to the muscle. I'd love to hear some motivational things... like, "this is why muscle endurance is important..." things like that make me want to stay on track when I know they are good for my body, or know they will take me to the next level in fitness. I hear a lot of people on the forums talk about injuries (and I've been battling tennis elbow after painting over a long weekend...last year!), so pointers on how to avoid common injuries, especially overuse injuries with tendens, or how to get injuries healed more quickly.

Rats, Cathe.... don't you know it's ski week in California that week, and half the state is going to Tahoe for skiing (including me)?! :D I think I'm planning that as a "rest week" and will be one week behind you. Enjoy!!

Oh oh, one more, then I'm done (I won't promise though). On the body log you can input your body fat... I'm not quite sure how to take my body fat, or if it is even possible to do that at home with no equipment, if it is possible, maybe one of the Cathe TV episodes could be instructions on how to do that.

It would be great to have more generalized cardio suggestions such as length of cardio time and target heart zone.

I'd like to hear some pointers or notes for people who are doing the 6 month version of STS. I, for one, am planning to do the 3 month version the first time through, starting on March 1st; however, I am still curious to know how doing the 6 month would differ in terms of development and results, throughout STS. Thanks!

I'm so glad to hear this! I'm also planning on starting on the 16th! I need 1 more week to finish up my 1 rep max testing, and to recover after being sick. Plus, the bonus is that this will make the first rest week during my kids' spring break, and I'll finish just before vacation (niece's wedding). Perfect timing!

I'm starting on the 8th...

It would be great to have more generalized cardio suggestions such as length of cardio time and target heart zone.

I think this is a great idea! Due to knee issues I will be using an elliptical for most of my cardio and would love to know heart rate recommendations.

Dead Lifts

Hi Cathe,

It would be great if you could show the deadlift in slow motion detail. All the pointers on youtube for the squat was a great reminder for form. Last year I had a lower back problem and I am afraid to do the deadlift with any real weight...especially when I am not 100 percent about form. I am also curious about modifications or alternatives to the deadlift. I thank you in advance!! I also thank you for a fabulous, dynamic workout series. It just may get me through this horrible New England winter.
Cheers,
Frances
