Carnie Wilson annoys me

That's like people who have terribly eating habits and then blame their obesity on their "metabolism."
I have to say -- SAY IT's NOT SO!! :D:D:D:D

I have been a fan of Carnie's for a long time. I did see her on Dr. Oz and I heard the same things said here about the 10,000 steps and trainer. I couldn't believe it. I have mixed feelings. One, she really needs help and she is begging for it the only way she knows how. Two, she is using her weight to get attention and money. She also was hyping her new TV show. I guess what you all are saying is true. She is using her weight as a tool to get attention. :( It makes me sad.

Healthy food is no more expensive than the crap when you factor in the health care costs associated with poor health from eating the crap. By eating healthy you actually save money!! I've been on tight budgets often and you can still eat plenty healthy. Maybe you don't buy organic - a regular apple beats no apple. But some whole wheat pasta tossed with canned tomatoes and some fresh basil costs nothing, is filling and healthy and delicious. It just comes down to free will. They've made their choices.

Oh - and I think I just saw some headline somewhere that her sister Chynna just entered rehab. And aren't they both half-sisters to MacKenzie Phillips. So, clearly a lot more going on here than simple weight management.

BWA HA HA!!!!!!!!!!

What in the world would Carnie and Kirstie do if they ever had a REAL problem?? They really make me angry. I just got back from my yearly mammo, it was all clear, and I could only thank the heavens above that it was. I know many women are not so lucky.

As I get into my advancing years (48! :p ) I am just crazy with appreciation and thankfullness for my health. And they b*tch and moan about not being able eat muffins all day and their trainer makes them cry.

They should both just shut up, and maybe take their mind off their weight by A) going to Haiti and volunteering to a soup kitchen, and see what REAL hunger is, and B) getting a real job that requires skill and at least half a brain.

Can you tell, they annoy me! :p

Govtgirl...did you see her show yet? On the Game Show network (I think that's it)...not the Newlywed Show, but her reality show. If not, then DON'T. It will really get you going! ;) She is actually launching a dessert business...out of her very own kitchen! That would be like crack for me...I could never succeed in weight loss while making a batch of bread pudding every morning.

:)Jonezie

PS...Does anyone know WHY people gain the weight back after gastric bypass or lap band surgery? I thought it was impossible to eat enough to gain it back. But I'm hearing about it all the time now. :(

Carnie Wilson and Chynna Phillips aren't related, but they both had wacky fathers.

No, Chynna is in rehab for anxiety. She is the half sister of Mackenzie. Carnie and Wendy Wilson(Father Brain Wilson, beach boys) were part of the singing group Willson Phillips that Chynna(Father John Phillips, mamas and papas) was also in. Did I mention I was a fan???

at one point i rooted for her during the weight loss struggles. i even gave her new show a shot but it only lasted 15 min. she was talking about making and selling cheesecakes and QVC blah blah blah. i too am just annoyed with it. i love cheesecake i love anything cheese but i don't sit around make it my life's work and then rant that i gained weight. don't give me that baby crap either plenty of us real working moms with no nannies and maybe half her money(if we are lucky LOL) have lost weight after 2 or more kids. get that right out of your head!

Jonezie - the stomach can be stretched over time to accomodate more food and if you eat calorie-dense foods, you can definitely consume more than you need.

the surgery is only physical. it doesn't stop emotional eating which i am pretty sure from the sounds of it is part of her life. i know i am an emotional eater and its preventing me from losing the last 8lb to my ideal weight and size. its a hard journey and many don't want to face that.

i have been through some messed up stuff that has me hiding behind food a lot, sometimes without thinking,i will grab something b/c i am bored, depressed, angry etc.

surgery can help with weight loss but only if ppl are ready to accept that other part. physical hunger and emotional hunger or two different things.

i am sure ppl that can move past the emotional have great success with weight loss surgery b/c they realize its a lifestyle change and no excuses can be made.

I find her annoying as well.
If she spent as much time working out as she does yakking about her weight problem, she'd have it all figured out.
She's a whiner. No sympathy here.

Carnie had a baby less than a year ago- it takes time to lose the baby weight. Unlike in Hollywood, where women pop 'em out and are back to being skinny in three days or less, most women need at least two years to get there.

I may be in the minority...I like Carnie... I get impatient with her whining, but she's a loving mother and seems like she's just a little bit immature in her outlook. I think she has a huge heart and personality to match, so she can come across as over the top, but she seems really decent underneath it all. Well, not that I know her, really, or anything, but from what I've heard, seen, and read, anyway... And in her show, her husband comes across as a real sweetie, too. I've only seen 2 episodes (don't know when it started) but they seem like a good couple.

And don't get me started on how you can eat WELL on the cheap!!! I've made it my life's mission :D Organic produce is not nutritionally superior to non-organic (at least, I haven't seen any convincing evidence of this), so that's not an issue for me. Frozen vegetables can actually be fresher than anything you buy in the produce departement. Frozen broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, beans, and blends are quite reasonably priced compared to fresh and there's less waste. Add in some dry or canned beans, bulk purchased grains, and some spices and there you are! Eliminating as much processing as possible is going to do as much for your wallet as it will for your health.

Maybe there ought to be an "Eat Well Cheap" club we can join! :D

I guess it depends on what you consider nutritionally superior? I think it is pretty well established that the nutritional value is affected by the growth period and the timing of the harvest. Produce that grows fast and that is harvested before full ripeness contains relatively more water and therefore there can be a dilution of nutrients per pound of product.

To me the nutritional superiority is in what's not in the produce, namely pesticides and additional chemicals as well as the fact that organically grown produce is non-GMO. That being said, I rather buy non-pesticide produce that is locally grown than certified organic from a large producer that is shipped across country.

I guess I am really out of the loop, I had no idea that Carnie gained much of the weight again. I feel bad for Carnie Wilson and Kirstie Alley.

Yeah...there's tons of coupons for crap but I honestly don't think I've ever seen a coupon for sweet potatoes or broccoli.

I just dream of the day I can grow my own in a greenhouse! I could cut my grocery bill by 2/3, then! Ah, dreams . . . .

Hee hee, I've had the experience myself! Red peppers here are 2 for $5 which seems like a bargain compared to what others seem to be paying! Peppers are one of the few things I don't buy organic. I suffer the pesticides and dream of the day I'm no longer po'. :D

Thanks for clarifying Jann! I figured I had something mixed up in there, but wasn't sure who was related to who.

You know, I would hate for people to judge me the way we're judging Carlie and Kirstie. I'm not perfect and I have a tough time keeping weight off. I lost 70 pounds, then gained about 40 back. I'm on my 50th or so weight loss effort right now. I'm not whining. I know what my problem is - I love food and wine. I like to workout, and I do (heck I did the LiveStrong ride and cycled 100 miles last year and have been known to trot out a half marathon a year).

So, I'm more likely to sympathize with them rather than degrade them for wanting to be able to be slim while eating bonbons and sitting on their butts. Wouldn't that be great? I have friends who can do that. I so cannot - well, I'd be happy with being slim while working out and eating what I want - that does not work either.

What I think is the true travesty here is that we have two talented, attractive women who feel that they have to conform to societies standards in order to be accepted.

christine i don't want you to think that myself personally are against her for weight gain/loss. i am just more of not going to feel sorry b/c you gained weight back but want to eat whatever you want. i struggle with the same thing but its personal responsibility. i can't expect anybody to feel sorry for me gaining weight if i am overdoing the popcorn, peanuts, cheese and ice cream. its hard to get on the straight and narrow path of fitness. food is something i am working on and i am sure if somebody passed me on the street nobody would think i workout with cathe or other hardcore workouts everyday.

that doesn't give somebody the right to be mean about my weight(or anybody else for that matter). i am just saying i can see how ppl can be annoyed hearing me or anybody whine about it over and over but not do anything to take care of it. i direct a lot of that same judgment on myself as i do to anybody celeb, i just don't have a show about it.

but i refuse to go for pills, surgery, or any other method then just coming to terms with my issue with overeating/emotional eating. its more challenging but i think would really serve me better results for every little step to progress i make. and also why i didn't choose show biz to be my calling in life LOL.

celebs in general don't have much sympathy from me other then they shouldn't be bothered for their weight and other issues in the tabloids. being chased and hounded is about the only thing i feel sorry for them for. but they are humans like us and have to except much personal responsibility for their actions as you or i.

ETA-its not meant to be mean, i say personal responsibility thing ALL the time about so much stuff. i think we all struggle with something that its hard to change but we know the only way to have success is to buck and and keep fighting on our own to get there.
