Cathlete
Hello ladies. I have two more days of working out before a week long vacation. Then when I get back I am planning to do a 6 week version of Cathe's May rotation.
Renee, my heels are a constant problem that I work through. The key, for me, is good shoes. I am actually having a problem with that right now. Sometimes it becomes a money pit. I have bought several new pairs of workout shoes and keep going back to the old ones because of pain. Several different brands work at first, but I have a problem with supination. I have had that problem my whole life but it never affected me until the accident. Now if I can't get a shoe that holds my heels tight and gives them support, I start supinating and the shoe has "heel slippage" which results in pain. After the first year it seemed like it was all uphill and I surprised everyone, including my surgeon with my level of recovery. He gave lots of warnings about the long term consequences of this injury. I hoped that if I stay active I will avoid them or at least, they will take longer to hit me than it does others. But this past 6 months... I've been having problems. It hasn't stopped me from working out or doing HIITs/tabatas/plyomentrics, but I do sometimes suffer afterwards. Fingers crossed the most recent pair of shoes I ordered will do the trick for a while.
But hey, if we have physical problems, there is nothing wrong with modification. We can still get the best workout we are capable of getting regardless of what we have to do to accommodate our balance issues. For instance, Cathe and some other trainers (Patrick Goudeau is one) have a lot of one legged strength moves. I modify by either keeping on toe on the ground or holding onto a wall. Using a body bar is a great idea, btw, that I might start using. The Firm used a body bar in their older workouts that use the Fanny Lifter--they are great for balance and you still got a great workout.
Mary--looks like you had a great recovery week! Are you gearing up for another heavy strength week?
Today I did Cardio Leg Blast, tomorrow is Muscle Max and Sunday is Patrick's Body Weight Blast--then it's off for a week of vacation!
Roegriff and Nathalie--are you still with us? How are you doing?
