Why do they keep going up on their prices?

When we(DH and I) first started renting movies we thought WOW,what a deal...unlimited movies for under 20 bucks!

A couple of months ago they went up to 24.99....ok,we still loved getting any movie(ulimited) we wanted and doing the exchange in-store thing! We are watching a movie everynight! Very fun!

So,this morning i get another email from them that my subscription will go from 24.99 to 34.99,WTH?

Im not sure if we like it that much! :-(

What happens next,34.99 to 35.99 x(x(x(

Thanks,I feel better!:7

Im not sure if were going to pay that much for movies!(gotta a tight budget these days) We may just go down to the limited movie rental subscription:-(

Blockbuster.com was something DH and I really enjoyed after putting the kids to bed and just relaxing, watching a movie!

I need to check out netflix! I'll do that sometime today:)

Thanks for listening guys:)

What plan do you have? I just checked my account, and it's still $17.99:

BLOCKBUSTER Total Access Premium $17.99 / month (plus taxes)
3 at-a-time, unlimited mailings
unlimited in-store movie exchanges
+1 FREE bonus Movie or Game Rental E-Coupon / Month

I live in Virginia, but that shouldn't make a difference. There's no way I'd pay $34.99. Anything over 20 is *it* for me!

Duh, it just occurred to me. Maybe it's because you're "watching a movie every night." Which means its not really unlimited, because they'll raise your subscription price x(

We end up with about 10-15 movies a month, some through the mail, some we exchange in the store.

I just got the same email this morning! I used to have what Lisa has not to long ago and they said they weren't offering that plan anymore. I wonder if they only raise the price of the people's who are getting a lot of movies. We end up getting 6 per week. I'll have to find out what they charge in the store for the movie pass. We used to have that. They were raising the price on that quite often too. That is what made me switch to online.

I just got that plan tha Lisa has so I know BB is still offering that plan. We used to pay 10 or 11 a month. Then they changed it to only so many in the mail and exchanges in the store. Dh complained and BB offered this "new" plan that is the same cost and offering that Lisa has. If they say they are not offering that plan, they are lying!!!

Geez, that's pathetic! I pay just a little over $13 for 2 movies at a time/unlimited through Netflix. I had considered moving to Blockbuster for ease of being able to drop off and pick up at the store, but I may reconsider now. If anything Netflix has dropped my rate several dollars since I started with them.

The prices haven't gone up on their homepage yet. What's up with that? Are they just increasing prices for those of us that get a lot of movies? My monthly fee has increased from $17.99 in Oct to $24.99 in Nov and now they want to raise it to $34.99? WTH????

Does anyone think maybe they are taking advantage of the writer's strike?

Netflix has gone down in price for their unlimited 3 at a time plan. I don't know about the other plans.

Maggie:)

Debbie,so your price as went up too!

I just emailed them, asking them to please explain to me why my subscription is going up and why there seems to be a variety in prices for customers with the ulimited total access program!

ETA-Those of you that use netflix do you ever have any problems with them? I've heard that there shipping can be slow! (but there price is starting to be look tempting)

I'll keep you posted!

Amelia, let me know what they have to say. I may send them the same email as well.

I've heard that Netflix shipping is slow to customers that rent a lot of movies. There is a word for it that I can't recall right now. That is why I went with Blockbuster in the first place. Their prices were competitive with Netflix and they had the added convenience of in store returns. Their prices aren't competitive anymore.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do but I'm NOT going to pay $37.44/month (after tax)

I just sent them this email

Please explain to me why my subscription is going up AGAIN. In October I was paying $17.99 for the same plan I paid $24.99 for in November and now in December you are raising it to $34.99????? That is almost double in just a couple of months.

I know of other people that are still paying $17.99 for the plan that I was told me wasn't available anymore. With that service you also received the monthly coupon for a free movie/game rental.

Also, why aren't the price increases reflected on your homepage yet? New members can receive a lower price than previous members?

Amelia - My shipping with Netflix has never been slow. I always receive my movies about 2-3 days after sending in the old one. If I mail a movie out on Monday for example, they mark it received on Tuesday and ship the next movie out on Tuesday. I normally receive it by Wednesday. The only time this doesn't work is if a particular title isn't stocked at the nearest distribution center (for me that is Harrisburg). In that case, it has to be shipped from somewhere else and may take an extra day. I go through a lot of movies. I've heard a few people say that their shipping on a few titles was slow and they attributed it to the company purposely sending it out slow. I'm sure that is possible, but I have never encountered that myself.

I got that email this morning too - but mine is just going up to 19.99 a month. I have the 3 movies at a time and the two online coupons each month that I use for games. Since I take the movies back to the store and get new free rentals - it is definietly worth the money for me...

I am never happy about an increase - but with the fact that I return the movies to the store for free new rentals - I cant complain too much. I know I am still making out better that way...

My price with Netflix just got lowered, too. I've never had a shipping problem. I have the 3-at-a-time unlimited plan. I love them.

I'm on netflix 3 at once plan, about $16 a month. I used to rent from Hollywood but easily save the $16 in gasoline, not to mention time. It's 15 miles RT and I tried to coincide with grocery shopping but late fees are so high that sometimes I had to make the trip just to return movies.
I rent TV series, like West Wing, and often took a week or more to get thru the entire disk, and I had to keep going back to the store to renew the rental. Netflix has a much bigger range of choices than a small store ever did. the only thing I miss is seeing the obvious new releases in a store. I've never had a problem with slowdown of service if I go thru movies quickly, but I also find lots of things to rent that aren't just the latest releases. I will never go back to in store rentals.

I got an email that my price is going from 14.99 to 16.99. We don't watch many movies, only 1-2 per week. I am going to cancel.
