Blockbuster.com....Vent!

I also am ticked at this 2ND additional price increase. I was on the premium plan, 2 movies at-a-time but I've downgraded to the 3 at-a-time by mail only.

I'M NOT PAYING $30 A MONTH - CRIPES.

We're always shocked at how quickly Netflix turns it around. DH said the other day that he thinks there is a Netflix rep at the bottom of the mailbox at the post office! He dropped one off last Saturday afternoon, and at 8:30 a.m. Monday we received an e-mail saying that they had received it and were sending our next selection!!! I think we got it Wednesday. It's always like this. They must have a really good team working in Richmond!

We have the Blockbuster vs. Netflix discussion all the time at work. I use Netflix because they have a lot of off the beaten path movies I want. Also, I hate Blockbuster. I'm old enough to remember the way Blockbuster moved in and took over the video rental business, pushing all the mom and pop video rental places out of business, cornering the market, and charging all manner of outrageous fees. As soon as Netflix showed up I saw them as an antidote to Blockbuster. I don't care what great "deals" Blockbuster comes up with because, in the end, you're just a worm on a hook to them. Once they have you they start playing their stupid games. Just boycott.

I agree. I'm just going to cancel and not give Blockbuster my business. I don't like that they are trying to charge me almost double in just two months time. I think I'll give Netflix a try.

Im trying to talk my DH into going with netflix (I even mentioned the two week free trial)He is SO stubborn x(,he likes the conveince of the exchange in-store deal!

He's already changed our subscription to the one rental total access unlimited exchange instore for 16.99 a month at BB. Im trying to explain to him that for the same price we could get 3 rentals(out at once) at netflix x( x( .

Oh well,im sure BB will go up in a month once they see the turn-over of movies we have,LOL!(then he'll switch;-))

>Netflix has gone down in price for their unlimited 3 at a
>time plan. I don't know about the other plans.

>Maggie:)

i have the 2 at a time plan and they just lowered mine from $17 with taxes to $15 a month with taxes. i never have an issue with slow shipping unless they are sending it from another center.i like their selection of b-movies and workouts. been with them for nearly 2 years.

Where it says "unlimited in-store exchanges", this no longer applies. Recently they changed this to "5 free in-store exchanges per month, and any additional in-store exchanges are charged at $1.99 each. And I received an email from them today telling me that the $17.99 price is increasing to $19.99.

I find though that this service provides me and my kids with adequate viewing.

This is the reply I got from them

Hello Deborah,

Thanks for contacting BLOCKBUSTER Online Customer Care.

I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused. We believe you'll agree that Total Access Premium provides an enormous value that comes from unlimited rentals and in-store exchanges, and we’re adjusting our pricing accordingly. The price adjustment enables us to bring our online subscription plans more in line with our in-store subscription pricing and strikes the right balance between providing great value to our subscribers and getting a fair return for the company and our shareholders.

Please note that we're not changing any plan benefits; you'll continue to get all the same great benefits and value from Total Access. With the variety of rental plans we now have in place, you'll have a lot of choices available, should you decide you want to move to a different plan type.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do for you today, Deborah.

Clare,

They do still offer unlimited in store exchanges. It's called the Total Access Premium plan. If you go to their site you have to click "see all plans" for it to come up. Instead of the $17.99 price for 5 in store exchanges it's $24.99 for unlimited exchanges. They are increasing the price of the $24.99 the most from what I am hearing/reading. They increased it to $34.99 whereas the other plans are only being raised a couple of dollars.

Hey,This is the reply that I got!

Hello Amelia

Thanks for contacting BLOCKBUSTER Online Customer Care.

Our price restructure took into account a number of factors, including plan usage. There are some instances when some existing subscribers may not see the same price change as another in the same plan.

We believe you'll still find your membership to be a great value, and with the variety of rental plans we now have in place, you'll have a lot of choices available, should you decide you want to move to a different plan. We do offer Mail Only plans at extremely competitive prices. For example, we offer 3 out unlimited for $16.99 per month, 2 out unlimited for $13.99 per month, 1 out unlimited for $8.99 per month, and a recently reduced price of 1 out/2 max per month for only $3.99 per month. We are happy to offer a wide variety of options to meet the needs to every customer.

Please note that we're not changing any plan benefits; you'll continue to get all the same great benefits and value from Total Access. Of course, you're always free to change your plan.

We appreciate your business. Please feel free to contact us again if there is anything else we can do for you.

Blah,Blah,Blah....The good news is my DH agreed to switch to netflix after the beginning of the year!(our subscription doesn't expire until then) YaY

"a fair return for the company and our shareholders."

aaah, yes. The shareholders need to make their millions. And everyone knows that corporate is living on beans and rice these days. Her statement may be the truth, but what bozo actually uses that as an explanation to a pissed customer? x(

Well, this thread has cemented my decision to get Netflix as a Christmas gift for DH over Blockbuster, as if I wasn't convinced already. We have had problems with Blockbuster in the past - terrible customer service and other (secret) policy changes, and as soon as they came into town three other established rentals went up in smoke in less than two years(ugh!).

How on Earth is it that some people rates are going up only two dollars while others are only going up almost double? Do you have the in store exchange, too?

Missy

I think the amount of the price increase is dependant on usage, from the sounds of Amelia's reponse from BB.

If you already have it on your list, you usually have a pretty good chance of getting it right away. Even if you just add it, it really doesn't take that long. It will tell you right on your list whether the title is available immediately or if there is a wait.

We've had netflix for years and have never had a problem. Movies get turned around pretty quickly for the most part. We don't request too many new releases, though. We're still waiting on the Simpsons movie...it has a "short wait." But we have other stuff on our queue in the meantime. We pay $16.99 for 3 movies at a time, which is $1 less than it was 6 months ago.

My grandmother has Blockbuster, and they've increased her rate too. She says she has to wait forever for movies to be mailed to her. When she calls to complain they say they will come soon, but there are some that she has been waiting weeks to receive. When she comes over tomorrow, she wants me to help her set up a Netflix account instead so she can cancel Blockbuster.

>For those that have Netflix, how hard/easy is it to get the
>new releases when they come out?

I don't usually get a lot of in-demand new releases. I signed up for Netflix way back when because I was amazed at how many foreign & art flicks they had. Stuff I couldn't find anywhere but had been looking for - they had. Also, working for a major U.S. postal distribution facility, I see every day the way Netflix dvd returns are quickly processed because the folks at Netflix DEMAND it. We never HEAR from the Blockbuster people, or any of the other movie rental companies. Netflix really cares about their customers and their reputation as a company. I've never had a complaint and that's how I like it.
