Anyone going to see The passion of the Christ?

Whoa, you need to back off. Up until now eveyone was doing a fine job expressing opinions with out going on the offensive. In Hollywood, black and white has everything to do with goodness and badness. It's a ploy we are all very familiar with. And Mel is a filmmaker. By the way, Jews do believe that Jesus existed. It is their pergogative to wait for their Messiah, having not found him in Christ. The Romans did not put up with subversive behavior in the land they occupied and, hence, the Roman's crucified Christ. The Jews had no power to do so. And that is my point.

I have broken bread with someone who had an Auschwitz tatoo on her arm and I am married to a Jewish man and I am within my right to give my opinion without being attacked for it by someone who underlines quite clearly what the controversy is all about.

Are you certain that you have nothing against people who do not believe in God and Jesus or rather your interpretation of God? Although deep down inside they do? You know that for sure? Sorry, but 70% of the world is non-christian and do not believe deep down that Christ was the Messiah. I can site Gandhi, a Hindu, who was one of the most godly men to walk the earth. Theology, mythology, history. There's a fine line between them and it's all subject to interpretation. Please don't shove yours down my throat.

I don't shove my beliefs down anyone's throat. It is my sincere prayer that this is much ado about nothing.

I pray. Every night. Usually for selfish reasons I might add, but I do pray. I do not believe in the bible. The ten commandments were not written by God. They were written byMan. And as I’ve said, Man is deeply flawed. The bible was written by men. Chinese whispers me thinks. Think about when three or four people seeing the same accident, everyone has a different interpretation of the same incidence. Who do you believe? I will not believe in anything that tells me I’m a bad person because of my lifestyle or choices (things I cannot control).

Religion is the number one cause of war in this world. Funny that… Taking the word of man to the extreme. Who’s to say what is “right or wrong”.

God is about loving oneself and loving those around you. Its has nothing to do with what is written or if you attend church or not. I know plenty of couples who attend church. They bicker all the way there and bicker all the way home.

It’s in our hearts. Right from wrong. That to be is God.

I still believe in what Annette and Susan L.G said.

Wayne.

>>There are a great many nuts out there who could be incited by
>this film.

People who hate, hate. Whether they use the bible, a movie or what they read on a candy wrapper to try to make their point. I couldn't hold a movie responsible for someone else's ignorance.

Thank You, Thank You , Thank You!

WOW!! Everyone this is a very hot topic and I see everyone who has differance and go for it! you have that right to believe in what you want and worship any way you wish! I am LDS yes that means I am Mormon and I am very proud of that fact and I do not wish to impose my beliefs on any one in this forum! I am not a typical Mormon I have been very inactive for my own reason. I have alot of respect for other beliefs and their religions, all I hope and wish for is peace among everyone! I find it more energy taking to hate someone than it is to love people. I won't see this movie because I can't stand violence in movies and I can't stand to see people hurt or tortured.
My beliefs is to love all and to say kind things to all not to hurt any one, and If I do I appologize it was never my intentions to hurt anyones feelings. I want to see people get along and have peace, there is enough hate and anger going around in this world, there has to be someplace where people can go to get away from all this anger.

Hi Barbara! Because I'm such an emotional person NO!! I'll wait to buy it on DVD & watch it at home where I cry my eyes out all I want!!!! Let me know how it is. Kathy

Repeat after me.....MEL GIBSON IS NOT GOD...MEL GIBSON DID NOT WRITE THE BIBLE...THIS IS JUST A MOVIE.

<<Also, why would anyone see The Temptation of Christ? Jesus never had sex nor been married. That's fabrication. >>

The movie didn't really live up to its hype, but if you had seen it, you would know that the marriage and sex parts of it were all a dream/fantasy that the devil offers Christ to tempt him into renouncing his sacrifice.

And Mel's movie is perhaps no less fictitious than "Temptation."

Hi Barbara!!

I CANNOT wait to see this movie! I tear up just seeing the previews!! I heard the ending will knock your socks off! :)
I pre-ordered tickets in advance too!! What an awesome thing Mel Gibson did putting this movie together!!! :)

I'm confused. Don't we all know the ending? Did Mel change the outcome!

Wow, what power that man has.

That's real nice Candi.

No, he did not change the ending. I'm betting the scene when Jesus rises from the dead and says "All is Forgiven" will be very, very powerful.

I am going to see this movie. For no reason other than to gain another perspective on religious beliefs.

I could disagree with everything that mel believes in, and even not believe in God or Christ. Still, i would see this movie in the spirit of an open mind, and knowing that the more we learn about other people and their beliefs, the better we are able to understand the world, the people in it, and even ourselves. :)

If Cathe had been around in those days, the Romans would have made Jesus do IMAX, IMAX2, KPC and Body Max all in a row. ;-)

You are getting lost on the details. Look at the wood, not the trees. The interesting thing about "The Last Temptaion of Christ is exactly the way it dramatizes Jesus' humanity. We all assume from Bible readings that Jesus just accepted sacrifice as his destiny. Well, it's actually more interesting to consider that he might actually have baulked at the idea and resisted it. This film does a pretty good job of representing what "temptation" really means. To have a Jesus Christ who is more humanized makes "him" way more acessible to us mere mortals, who also, doubt, err, etc.

And how do we know whether Jesus married or had sex? It's a narrative written by man, as Wayne says. People will write the ideology of Jesus' life the way they want, and others will interpret it to suit their own needs. Where his life is concerned, there are no hard truths. What a film does, as any preacher's sermon based on a bible passage does, is interpret. Period. Therefore, as interpretations, each to me is as valid or as bogus as the other.
