40's hot July thread

going for walk with bff, unfortunately it's getting hot here again and we aren't going until noon. distance is about 1.75 miles. Then out to eat and drink :)

Mary, is it a cortizone shot? my sis got one in her hip, pain is coming back again, she is going to go back, but really her options are limited (she is overweight and lazy though), they suggested PT, she won't go. I hope you find relief! snow angels on foam rollar are hard for me, chest super tight, can't get arms all the way up, just out to side. feel the stretch in the pecs though!

Hey, big progress, I rolled over in bed! no getting out to reposition :) OK, so it's the small things in life at this stage!

Ronne, at PT they had me lay on floor, noticing gap between shoulders and lower back with floor, did the foam roller exercises (didn't think they felt like much) and laid on floor again and there was major difference! I'm going to do the test on my bff today (she doesn't know it yet :) -- she does know that I want her to rub me with my pepper cream for my muscles (forget the name), it's awesome, better than the horse linament!

Murphy, I agree with mary on fusion, not my fav at all!

Good Afternoon,

Hot here again too we are at the lake. I did Ck25 Wk7 D2 ran 2.25 miles. Tomarrow is the funeral in the morning and then I am going to go home and pick up dh and go to dds to see gs I hope he feels better.

Roxie, I am sorry about another funeral.

Lisa, dh treats you like philly, bf treat you like salad? I've never done foam roller, it was part of the Drop two sizes w/o I was looking at. I totally don't understand it why should it work? why does it hurt? how can it help? Mystified!

Mary, too bad no improvement. Are you still evaluating surg? Feel free to help yourself to some whine! You don't complain about anything!

Ronne, my Brit friend was just home visiting and also posting on fb about nice weather there.

Murphy, how many w/o are you trying to do in addition to sts?

I didn't w/o on Tues so I'm due today for disc 4, I guess it will late if I get to it. I've had cell phone issues today and did some tutoring smack dab in the middle of the day so I don't feel very productive. I went to town council meeting to find out about new development going in down the street. Working a few hours a day is really inefficient compared to 12s for me. I'll let ya know if I get a workout in!
Oh I made cauliflower soup the other day, it was great. I'd never even heard of it before. Also dd 17 has been joining me in green smoothies. : )

Good Morning,

I did my trainers workout today and KCM 30 minute KBX 1. I am getting ready to leave for funeral.

WK3 Workout 2 (resistance bands)
Squats 30 reps
Side Steps 50 reps
Lunge Jumps 20 reps
Bicep Curls 20 reps
Tricep Kickbacks 30 reps
Rows 30 reps
repeat 3 times.

Did disc 3 today. Not too bad. I paid attention to the weights and reps this time so it was manageable. :)

Roxie - good job on the workouts. I hope gs feels better.
Jody - I am only doing the STS M1 rotation.
Ronne - that was good to walk to the post office. Mine is close by but I have never walked it. Now I feel supper lazy.
Mary - feeling better?
Lisa - I don't foam either. I hope it works for you.

Murphy

Hi all

Murphy - I walk into town, to the shop at the end of the road, to the post office. I don't have a car during the day and parking is such a pain that I'd rather walk!

Roxie - good workout.

Jody - we probably all sound like a bunch of wimps to you going on about the weather! You don't have air con when you work out do you?

Lisa - hope you have a nice time with bff and don't melt! This foam roller stuff sounds quite enticing actually.

Mary - you whine away - you're so stoic!

Did Drop Set Strength, UB and core. Good workout. Found out that my oldest invoice is in limbo hence it not being paid. Glad I chased it.
My parents arrive this afternoon to stay for the weekend. It's going to be a hot one with extra people in the house!

Hello! Today did AOLH, fun! Murphy, I will be doing disc 3 tomorrow, legs are my favorite! Ronne, I wish I was as dedicated to walking like you! Glad you figured out who was trying not to pay you! Lisa, DH read up on foam rolling, it breaks down the lactic acid somehow. I didn't quite understand it! Yes, I got cortisone. I have done PT, really nothing different than we do with Cathe. Band work, on the bike, etc. if I do the surgery again, with my school schedule and recovery, I will have to wait until next may. I don't get sick time, lose my hospital spot. What is 10 more months after all this time! Jody, how are you liking STS? What are ou doing for the pull ups/chinups? I'm just using a heavy band, like Deezie! Funny, my dog is named Wheezy! I should get another one, name it Deezie! How fun would that be? Roxie, thinking of you and hope all goes well today. Looks like the whole country is hot today! Have a good day! Mary

Hi ladies, Yesterday's walk was nice but hot and of course I'm slower. Then we went to dinner and 1/2 price wine, I got carded! again! I think it's something with having my hair in a ponytail. I was wiped out by the end of our day (felt like I do after climbing a 14er), my poor body. Had bff try the foam roller exercises, she agreed it didn't seem like it would do what it did (see prev post how it eliminated gaps in lower back, between shoulder blades when laying down flat). She is flexible too. She did prove that snow angels are possible (you tube it), I can't get my arms all the way up with keeping the arms on the floor. My pecs are so tight! Also a explanation about it I found on RumbleRoller Home I tried it today on my sore glute, I think I found the sore spot, will see if it helps that.

Mary, you are stoic, I'm the complainer :) what about some different therapy, not sure of the different kinds but this anodyne light therapy is helping me, did I post that link before? I read up on how it helps, interesting stuff.

Murphy, guess you had your glasses on this time :)

Ronne, it's great to walk everywhere like that, I sweat too much, I'm wet by the time I get to just 1/2 mile away.

Roxie, hope gs puts a smile on your face, I know he will

Jody, I'll have some green smoothies with you if you make them (I'm lazy with adding too much in to them (more to buy, more to remember to use when you make them). Ok, yea, I'm lazy that way. I did have a HUGE salad for lunch, followed by ice cream :)

Did my PT foam and stretchs, heading off to there soon, hope I get a fab massage.

Mary, I have a turbo tower for pull ups.
Murphy, last time did you do the 1RM instead of a percentage of it?? OIC you did the reps which would have also been hard and also wonky. I guess I meant what sort of cardio are you doing in addition to sts meso1? Ha ha, I feel like the homeschooler version of STS, just the STS strength w/o are my only requirements. Sort of like dual enrollment for my kids- that doesn't make sense to any of you but I enjoy finding the parallels.
I'm off to do disc 4 -didn't do it yesterday- but better hurry. I have a coffee meet up planned for later, I will tell you about if there is anything to tell.
Ronne, I don't usually notice it is hot here till end of July and Aug. We've had lots of rain, too. Glad you found your money! oh and I do have ac for workout, but not for running outdoors obviously and not in my van.
Roxie, that seems like a nice combo of workouts.
Lisa, I can't keep icecream in the house, I'd eat it all up in one afternoon. (with help from my kids who would be mad I ate most of it before they could get to it. )
Better go or I'll have another excuse for no workout.

Good Evening,

I managed to survive the day and GS was in a really good mood until he got tired so we had and enjoyable visit.

Did a S&G premix. I started out doing an AB premix but my legs said no. I guess they are still tired from yesterday. So, I had my follow-up with the foot doctor. He looked at the x-rays and showed me the scar tissue and where the cartilage is wearing/worn down and why it hurts to do certain exercises. Wait, let me back-up, approximately 20 years ago I had surgery on both feet (plus broke bone in ball of my left foot) and now it has caught up to me. I was having pain when I did exercises that involve bending the toe - which covers so much, lunges, planks, push-up, etc. Long story short, I have to modify everything to the extreme. No weights with lunges and not too deep. Knee push-ups (burpees are out - which may not be a bad thing) and so forth. I was not too happy, but at least I know I am not crazy - at least as far as my foot goes!

Roxie - glad ds was in a good mood.
Lisa - good luck with the foam.
Ronne - glad you figured out the problem with the money.
Jody - I did do the 1RM way back when. I tried to keep it updated as I went along but did not always manage it. Oh, I am doing the January 2010 rotation which is the STS rotation. Most of the cardio is the Shock Cardio stuff - HiiT, MMA stuff and the others. I don't care for Step Moves or Athletic Step so I am subbing some LIS and XTrain stuff for that. I am 50/50 with Circuit Blast. I used to like it but am not sure how I feel right now. I will give it another go and see.
Mary - I too like AOLIH. Good luck with the hip.

Murphy

Hi all

I'm so glad I never injured myself seriously when younger - it does sound like it comes back to haunt you!

Murphy - at least you know the restrictions you've got to work with now.

Roxie - glad you had a nice visit.

Jody - we have ac in the car but not in the house. A bit of a breeze today so not so bad. Loving wearing shorts all the time! I didn't wear my shorts at all in this country last year! Hope you got your workout in.

Lisa - sounds like a nice time.

Mary - how's the wrist now? Is it better?

Did yoga again today. A slower, more relaxing session. Going to have a nice glass of white wine this evening! I've got the afternoon slowies. It gets to about 2.30 and I find it really difficult to work!

Good morning! Today did disc 3, so humid here it seemed like I was working out underwater! Ronne, I don't know if I would survive without AC in the house. My poor neighbor's died, it's 91 in here house! I offered her an extra window unit, but she said no, that she would make do! I would be sleeping in the fridge! The wrist is better, thanks for asking! Murphy, I'm sorry about your foot. Do you have to be careful about shoes? But no more burpees? Awesome! Roxie, glad you got to spend some time with GS. That always helps everything! Jody, I'm jealous! A turbo tower! I should have bought one when they were available. My van is also without AC, have had it fixed twice, not doing it a 3rd time! Lisa, how are you today? So glad you are getting out and having some fun! Not much else, have a good Friday! Mary

Good Morning,

I didn't feel up to running today I was up during the night with hip and knee pain and my stomach was all knotted up so I went for a 2.16 mile walk outside that I wish I would have done earlier it is hot and humid already. I plan on doing a stretch later.

Mary-I hear you on the humidity and GS gave me a hug which made everything better.

Ronne-I couldn't live without ac sleeping at night is tough when its not cool.

Murphy-I hope your foot gets better soon.

got a few more exercises/stretches added at PT yesterday, thankfully I talked them into taking some off the list since I'm doing them at home, otherwise I'd be there 3 hours! They added lateral raises with the band, one arm at a time, thumb up (easier version), can try the reg way. Well, at PT, their band is less strong than the dynaband. So I was able to do some the reg way, asked if I could do both arms at same time, said if I could sure, make sure to tuck the chin and not jut forward trying to lift it. Anyway, tried today, omg, I'm so weak, I can't do both arms the easier way, have to do one at a time, and I can't do the reg way at all even with one arm.

My left hip is bothering me (it's been this way since teenage yrs), I got the idea from PT to do Cathe firewalkers, if bands are helping my shoulder it should help my hip, right?

I did walk this morning, so hot and humid, not sure of distance I didn't track and ended up trying to go a more shaded way, I'm guessing 1.7 or so miles.

Oh, doing my snow angels on the foam roller (did you all google it?) I can get my arms over my head with hands staying on floor! I think it was the awesome massage I got at PT yesterday, she worked on my traps and upper back HARD. Asked if it was too hard, it was pretty hard, but I want these muscles worked out so just dealt with the soreness I knew would hit later.

SO, all in all, doing all my PT and walks, I feel for my body right now I'm getting good (but boring ) workouts!

Murphy, I think we should rejoice in the fact that we have excuses to skip some things! Remember as we age we get smarter about if it hurts, STOP!

Ronne, you are lucky not to have injuries from earlier years! It does come back to haunt you. Sometimes I've been getting down about my situation, WHY did I have to be in that car wreck at 5, WHY didn't Mom drive that day? WHY didn't we sit in the back seat instead of the front seat that day? WHY? Well, DH says, you can't change it, don't dwell on it, you have what you have to deal with and you move on. I know so many others have it much worse, so I'm still grateful for what I CAN DO. OK, off soap box now.

Mary, it's humid here too (nothing like you I'm sure), It's like you can't breathe well. Speaking of breathing, that stupid dog, we took her to the lake, let her put her feet in, so she licks at the water, then next thing she is submerging her head and abruptly comes up like she tried to breathe underwater. Gave us a good laugh, guess she hasn't been in water before :)

Roxie, I hope your pain resolves, take care!

Jody, I couldn't deal with being outside in FL until Nov!

Lisa, your new work out is your therapy, but you will have to let us know if you are cheating since we won't be able to tell. Murphy, about the only thing that would make me Want to do static lunges would be being told I can't do them. Mary, I got that turbo tower on a whim from Amazon- some thread about it being a great deal drove me to it. My bar is a jr sized bar so I can't utilize the tower fully- so it doubles as a cat toy hanger. Ronne that wine sounds refreshing and relaxing. Roxie, yea for huggles from gs.
I did get disc 4 done yesterday and later on did 1/2 of an Xfactor workout plus med ball abs from ab circuits. I just finished disc 6 and will do disc 5 on Sat or Sun. So far I like the STS workouts and this mesocycle. I take longer than Cathe intends b/c I'm still changing wts or or equipment so there is more of a break in between sets. I think I am going to have good results. I'm not worrying about doing too much other than the STS strength and I'm not feeling like I need week in a hammock after each workout. Also, the wt selection seems pretty good.

Good Morning,

I did High Step Circuit this morning. We are headed to the lake today and we are going to try and stay until after dark if the weather cooperates so I need to pack more food today. My eyes are all crusty again today stupid allergies.

Hi all! Channeling Murphy today, did S&G. Was okay. Roxie, hope you have a great day! Hope your mirror came in! Jody, I find I'm enjoying STS more this time. Yesterday, was shopping, I found a pair of Cathe lifting gloves! They are padded in the palms, I'm excited to do disc 4 on Monday! Lisa, when will you start going back to the office? Ronne, how was the wine? Murphy, what you up to? Tomorrow DH is doing a triathlon & DS is doing a duathlon with his friend. I think I'll take a rest day! Happy Saturday! Mary

Good Evening,

We went to the lake but it started to pour while we were there and we tried to outrun it but storms just kept popping up so we came home.

Mary-the mirror came in but we didn't get a chance to use it.

Good Morning,

I did a much needed stretch and might do another one later my muscles are really tight. We are trying to decide if we should go to the lake we are suppose to have storms again.
