40's hot July thread

Mary, that's why I didn't post yesterday, I didn't want to be a Debbie Downer. Anyway, just came from PT, told them how my lower back is killing me (also confessed to my meltdown...jaw is super tight now). Anyway, they say I am turning using my lower back vs my neck and that is probably why. Now that makes sense and I am doing that, especially on my walks. Finally an answer. So I have to make sure to turn from neck and practice laying in bed, I have the range of motion, it's just tight. I must turn to loosen it up. THey put the anodyne light therapy on my jaw and lower back, and my normal neck. So now I'm thinking of splurging on getting the home model, that way I can put it where I need it and maybe get thru this and yet help in future for aches and pains. It works by going deep into the muscle to increase circulation and your own healing. I'm spending more money than I'm bringing in at this point. Hope DH thinks I'm worth it. Maybe it will be if it means he gets yelled at less during a meltdown. ]

I dont' blame you about 2 car payments either.
 
It's Murphy. Quick post, did disc 5 today. Forgot to print workout card and was behind so decided on weights as I went along. I think I made some good choice, I was feeling it. Gotta run. Waves and hi-fives to all!

Lisa, I'm sorry about this, too. Keep swinging. I feel depressed and unmotivated a lot lately, can't imagine pushing thru neck surgery. One day at a time, right? I saw the bear in the neighborhood on FB, that is so cute. I did a run yesterday thru a new area and had my eyes peeled for gators in one section.

Murphy, I write stuff down in my STS book that I got with the set, but I guess I paid extra for it and it doesn't come automatically? Thank goodness, printer is the most unreliable piece of equipment in the house. I do like having most of the 1rms done.

Mary, I think it is worth it to keep older car repaired, more green, and you know what you have- at least to a point. A new car brings happiness but so does money in the bank. When I do repairs I remind myself that my paid off car isn't free but still cheaper than a car payment. But it sure is nice when I don't need repairs! I didn't quite follow who offered to give you what- a dear friend? anyway, that was super sweet. LOL to new pick up line, hey baby, wanna check out my filing system? How did that conversation get started?

Roxie, migraine better? Ugh to oil leak and window in your car. So I will pink bubble you in that job at the dealership where they also give you an awesome deal on a car.

Ronne, congrats on IPAD. I'd like a Tablet or something too but can't justify it just yet. Tho nearly with being in school. Textbooks and notebooks are becoming obsolete. Funny about Jilly being like your friend. She's the writer kid who wants to do the editing but thinks that she'd have to critique others and that would be hard for her. The Disney parks are $$ relative to the other parks and not much in the way of deals for 1 or 2 days of park. I think we just paid 180 for me and Jill for the one day. Oh and parking is 15 dollars, too. I justified it b/c we met friends, dd had completed her AA and her BD was in June. She is princess crazy and we had a great day together.

OK, well I've written a book so far-- but I did STS 7 on Mon. OMG I forced myself to workout and it took forever. I was watching Jeopardy, making ribs for dd. Hopefully it was still effective and at least I got it done. Yesterday I did a walk run that included 15 min of 45/30 HIIT. Today should be disk 8. I have a date tonight I will force myself to go on. I did trainers Wk4 Workout 2 and I could only do it twice and it was really tough must be weak from not doing anything yesterday and not sleeping well because of the headache and then I walked on the TM for 35 minutes I wanted to do Tabata but just not up for it. I still have a little headache but nothing like last night I was praying for death. The weather has finally cleared up and I think that had alot to do with the headache.

Wk4 W2 (high reps):
Plank Walks 30 reps
Dips 30 reps
OH Press with Barbell 30 reps I tried db first but switched to the bb
Squat Pushups 30 reps (stay in a squat fall forward into a pushup, push back on to heels) these were tough.
Squats 50
Repeat 3 times.
 
Roxie, looks like praying for death must be going viral. That's exactly how I felt Wednesday. Hope you feel better and no one else catches the PFD syndrome. :)
 
Hi girls! Today did JM Shred, 2 of them. Wasn't that bad. Jody, my dad offered his car! He says since they are both retired they don't really need 2 cars anymore. I just don't know, such an incredible offer, but I don't feel right about it. That's his car! His freedom! He's so good to me, I am a lucky, lucky girl. Have fun on your date! You never know! Roxie, that is some work out you did! Looks painful! Lisa, DH knows your were just frustrated! You are worth every penny and more! I hope you are feeling better today. Hi speeding Murphy!

Jody - that's an essay!! Tell Jilly that editing is not criticising - it's improving. When I work with authors I always try to make suggestions rather than just tell them, this doesn't work or whatever. I only get tough with people I don't think are trying. I always appreciate the work that people do and I know it takes effort, I'm just tyring to make it the best it can be and most of the time authors understand that. (And it's their name on the book!)

Finished off my final project today so I'm all clear for the weekend. Massive cleaning job to be done, that frankly I've been putting off all week! People are coming to stay in our house while we're away. I normally leave the house clean but feel like I've got to make an extra effort, cleaning floors and getting rid of cobwebs in hidden corners!!
Then a massive packing job on Sunday.
Almost printed off all the stuff we need re hotels, car etc.
I probably won't be back over the weekend but I may pop in while we're in CA (see I'm getting the shorthand!) and say hello and perhaps post a few pics!
We are all so excited!!
 
Thanks for all the support! Sounds like it will be a ghost town on the forum this weekend? So, my back didn't hurt as bad when I woke up at 3am, so the light therapy must have helped. I took dog for a walk 1.12 miles, practicing turning my head left/right trying to take in the views :) The only view the dog took in was a bunny and off she took :) I did my PT exercises, then the standing abs of MMA fusion and standing part of Chalene core 20. While the rest played I stretched my LB, did some more PT of turning/tucking/twiting my head. THen I had an idea, when they were doing bicycle I could do it, just leaving my head down (may not be as hard but my lower abs felt it), then same with crunchs, I basically did a pelvic tilt leaving my head and feet (legs bent) on ground> So for someone only 8.5 weeks out of major surgery, not bad right?

DH called to order the anodyne light. their website said call for pricing (hate that). Found another site selling for $3000, well we called the anodyne website and they had a special for the month! $950, normally $1400. WTH was that other site trying to scam for then! Supposed to be here Thursday. Happy Birthday to me? lol

Jody, I personally never saw the bear (neighbor had called but that was when I was in my funk so maybe it was in their yard then). We have seen foxes trotting down the sidewalks. I couldnt imagine seeing a gater! I hope you find a way out of your funk. I have such a supportive family (minus my stupid sis who actually told me she wished I didn't answer her phone call since I was grumpy --this after being admonished for not answering her call the prev day (when my grumpies started)), but my DH, DS's, DIL, BFF, 40's friends and work friends are all such a wonderful source of support.

Mary, that is so sweet of your dad, he wouldn't offer if he didn't mean it. I've often offered my car to my DS for his commutes (mine gets better gas mileage), but I think he prefers driving his (guess that's why he got it).

Ronne, I used to get the house cleaned before a big trip but wondered, hmmmm, why did I do that for the dust to just collect? Um, WHO of us 40s are staying in your place while you are away? How about the one that you can name the capital of their homestate. LOL

Oh, so with all my head rotations, I'm feeling it between my shoulder blades, darn muscles so interconnected. I hope they all get in sync soon! LOL
 
Quick pop-in to say I did MMA kickbox. I have to jump into the shower before my assistants get up. This is the only time I have to myself and must use every second of it.

Its cold and rainy here today which is not normal for this time of year, we really wanted to go to the lake today but looks like that is not going to happen. Youngest DD and her BF were suppose to come down so we could go to the lake tomarrow but its not suppose to be very nice again. Cardio & Weights done I forgot how tough the ab section is on this one but I like it and for the first time I did it with one set of risers. Definetly no lake today.

Murphy I watched part of it over coffee this morning. Are you missing being there this year? Where did you go in the classes, did you find a spot close to Cathe? Did you recognize others from last years trip? It looks fun and more do able than I imagined.

Ronne, I hope we get to hear from you a little bit while you are in Cali! Good luck getting it all together this weekend and safe travels!

Roxie I like that ab section too. poo about the lake. We have storms this afternoon too.

Lisa, I always try to find the good deal, too. I think enough people just buy something w/o looking around that some places can get away with it. Of course, I always wonder if something is not up to par with my bargain priced version.

I'll do something quick and dirty today and do legs from week 3 tomorrow. Date was ok.
 
Same workout today as yesterday. Left trap hurts, could sure use that light today. Lower back a little better.

Jody, I wouldn't know what to do on a date it's been so long. Does the guy always pay, how does that part work these days. Maybe date would have been better if you told him to take off his glasses. Lol
 
bought new bed, guest bed I'm sleeping on is what is causing my lower back pain I think, but I can't sleep on my side on that crappy sleep number bed. Went to store, salesperson was actually very knowledgable, said he gets lots of complaints of sleep number beds, made with low quality foam, that's why it's great first couple years and slowly over time you begin to hate it (my sis in FL is same way). Bought this one, gets delivered Monday, can't wait!

Disc 6 done. I think it is time to start increasing some of the weights. It felt good that what used to be really heavy is not so heavy anymore. Made my day!

Jody - I did miss it a bit, but it is way too much exercise/activity for one weekend. It can really get crazy. Yes, I did recognize some faces. Did you see Al was there. He was at the meet and greet as well as one of the classes. That would have been fun.

No workout for me today youngest dd her bf and his son are coming down for the day they wanted to go to the lake but its only suppose to be 69 and rainy today so we will have to do something else.

Lisa-we had a beautyrest was ok for a while but didn't last long.
 
Disc 9 done- legs. I liked the one leg slide back lunges w/ plate, it hit the same muscles as when I do pistols. I use 25's for dead lifts but I think I can go heavier but I felt some twinges in my back so I'll stick with those and keep form for now. So good for me, I did 4 STS discs this week plus an interval run and supercuts and abs a few times.
I wish we were all doing the same week!

Lisa, i think you should wear your sweat band to pt so they know you mean biz! ha. I let date pay for everything. I'm not spending money to ruin my diet and sit next to smokers. We'd gone bowling earlier, I would have paid my share for that, it was my idea but later we went to a restaurant/bar as a date extender, his choice. -He was nice, but I'm not really attracted to him. We'll see.

Muphy, who is Al, the young guy w/ black hair? I saw him in the step class and in the 15 min of fame. I wish I knew who was who among the cathletes I saw and who post frequently enough I'd know them.

Roxie, enjoy the day with the family! It sounds nice. We have had sprinkles and drizzles here most of the day, too. I need a beach day before summer escapes me.
 
Did disc 7. I forgot about all of the push-ups. I was dreading doing them, but it actually was not bad at all. This disc seemed easy - but don't tell Cathe I said that! :)

I did trainer Week 5 Workout 1 using barbell plates started with a 10lb plate but dropped down to 8 for everything except the rows, then I walked on the TM for 30 mins. DH and I had a wonderful day yesterday but we are not use to spending the day with a 4 year old so it was very tiring. The weather is crappy here today and its starting to affect my mood.

Plate Workout:
Reverse Crunch with plate in arms over head
Walking Lunges 30 steps with plate over head
Squats 30 reps with plate over head
Rows 30 reps
Repeat 3 times.

Murphy-good job with your workout.
 
Hello! Today did disc 7, unlike Murphy, I thought the push ups were awful! I thought they would never end! Weekend was fun except for Mother Nature! Friday, we stayed at the hotel, had a water park, that was fun. Saturday was a monsoon! We didn't go into cedar point. We went to the waterpark, the mall, the movies, saw Heat, (funny,), friends came and joined us for dinner. Yesterday, was cloudy, chilly, then the rain came, we did go into the park, kids had fun. Since we had tickets for both days, we are going back in a couple weeks with friends and hopefully the weather will be better! Lisa, how's the new bed? You have a lot of mattresses, don't you? You could have a massive slumber party! Roxie, that work out sounds brutal! Glad you had a good visit. Jody, bowling and dinner sounds fun! Maybe he was nervous, sometimes need a couple of dates to get the true measure. I'm trying to catch up to you! Ronne, safe journey! Murphy, I saw a little of the step class. Looked intimidating! Just got back from PT, I'm keeping up with stretches and exercises (even though I didn't want to one day). I'm getting more rotation in my neck. Left muscles hurt bad though, maybe that's progress? since left side was always bad that may take longer than right side? Haven't walked, giving lower back a break, got the bed, uh, I thought we bought the adjustable base with massage unit, got a flat one instead :( SO add on another couple thousand and they will bring the adjustable tomorrow, but at least have the good mattress tonight.

Yes Mary, we've been playing musical beds :) Been raining here too, but we need it! I soooooooooo wanna see Heat! We just finally watched Identity Theft with that same actress (Marissa? Meyer?>) It was funny and I only briefly fell asleep for a min. That's the measure of a good movie for me, do I fall asleep and if I do, do I stay awake or say the heck with it :)

Jody, LOVE plate work with legs, don't know why, I just do :)

Murphy, you can keep the pushups :) actually I feel like I should be kicked out of this group.

Oh, the little bit of abs I explained that I did a couple of days ago I felt it by 3rd day, oh my, just feeling that little bit, I have no idea how I'll ever get back to close to where i was (I'm only shooting for close). I tried a plank on elbows supporting my head on my fists, I wonder if that was a bit too much and that is what started my left side hurting. sigh

Roxie, 25 yr warranty on this bed, of course it's all prorated, certain things etc. I just want to be able to sleep on my side with no neck or back pain. I think the only reason I slept so much in my early recovery was because of the massive drugs. I subscribed to Spotify so I can stream music in my car, I'm trying to use that to spice up my boring workouts (sorry but your w/o's seem boring too). I need someone telling me what to do.
