40's hot July thread

Hi all. Sorry to be absent. I had minimal computer time. I have been getting work outs in so that is good. I started STS today, I hope Jody and Mary (?) don't mind. I tend to get distracted with rotations but I figured I might have a better chance if I piggy back off of you guys. The shoulder is still tight, but better. I think it was just that I have been carrying so much crap - extra heavy purse, extra heavy tote bags, carrying the 5 year old here and there on vacation (she was getting tired and slowing down the group on the tour). I am using my backpack style purse now and it is helping. Plus, I took out some of the crap in my purse! Waves to all.

Lisa - glad things are coming together for you.
Roxie - keep up the crazy work outs.
Mary - feeling better? A lot of people don't seem to like the Lone Ranger.
Jody - Fostering cats? I am a cat lover but IDK if I could do that.
Ronne - I need to get more yoga in. I am just not into it anymore. How was the trampoline competition? I have seen them on tv.

Hi ladies, woke up with my lower back hurting more than anything else. The culprit? My walks and not stretching. Amazing how out of shape you get laying around in bed for 6 weeks! So I did some LB stretching that didn't involve my neck (no Down dogs), then my PT exercises, then went for a 1.5 mile walk and came back and stretched more LB. I haven't taken any percocet because I don't feel the need, wish I could have taken advil for the LB, but can't take that for 6 mths to a year--inhibits fusion. Tomorrow is PT. I know I'll be wiped out and soreness will set in again (but it's a good soreness this time :) )

Mary, I heard Lone Ranger wasn't that good. I go 2 days a week to PT, thinking M, TH would be good spread of days.

Roxie, Enjoy the lake!

Murphy, I can't believe you don't want to piggy back off of me with my PT exercises :) lol Again, so. out. of. shape. How do people do it (major surgery) that aren't in good shape to begin with?

Jody, we older gals need to stick to that philosophy! You do amazing workouts, if it works for you then nothing needs to change. Don't know that I could foster cats either. Having had a cat that couldn't hit the litter box made me realize how awful that is (my poor Yoshi had a reason, but the fosters? ) good luck if you do

Ronne, your weekend sounds like a workout to me, out of shape Lisa.

Yea! Murphy that would be awesome. IKWYM about heavy bags. Here is a pic I took from when I was taking Xtend, I would leave house w/ school pack, tutoring pack, lunch, purse and gym plus assorted outfits.

Lisa, (for reasons that don't matter) I saw some workouts suggested for coming back from an injury or outage by Jessica Smith on youtube, I think they were chair workouts but they looked good- she is adorable and her dog is usually with her. Anyway, I thought of you, not that you need ideas or anything else for that matter. I think I want you to do all the workouts I like but don't think I'm going to get to anytime soon, like ultimate yogi. haha.

Mary, how many times have you done STS? Did you read the long experiential thread in the sts forum? Are all your 1rms done? What days are you doing what? how many additional w/o do you think you will do? : D

Roxie, that sounds like STRESS!

Ronne, how was your weekend? How can you watch trampoline w/o wanting to have a turn?

I did disc 3 legs today. I think I'll be doing it on Sun/Wed/Fri?

Hi everyone! Today did YR, needed some stretching. Also, cleaned, 4 loads of laundry, a Target run and pool, now I'm going to be lazy! Murphy, how fun to have 3 of us doing it! I'm starting in the morning. Jody, I'm too lazy to do the 1rm's! I'll go by my notes from the last time I did it and adjust as necessary. This will only be my 2nd time thru, I do random discs at times and have done meso 2 frequently. Lisa, you will bounce back quickly, now that you can move more. Muscle memory! Roxie, I grind when I'm stressed about something. It usually gives me a tension headache. Hope the lake was nice. Ronne, how was the party? Not much else, kids have Max &Ruby on, 2 bunnies with no parents! Brings back memories. Not quite sure why they are watching it tho! Mary

Did 40/20 today. Almost skipped it, goofing off. I was going to "do it later" but I knew the chances of that were slim to none. I am very proud of myself, I got out of bed and did it. Of course that now means I have 15, maybe 20 minutes to get ready for work - plus get my husband and the kids up ready for camp. DH is supposed to be in charge of that but we all know how that goes...

Hi all

I need another weekend! Don't where this one went, but it was good. Had a lovely day with our friends yesterday. It was really hot, and we sat outside, ate too much, drank too much. The kids had a ball, on the trampoline, in the paddling pool and spraying each other with the hose.

Murphy - congrats on getting your workout in first thing. That's impressive!

Mary - sounds like a busy day of chores! I saw a review of Lone Ranger that gave it two stars. I think I'll be giving that one a miss when it gets here. The Bling Ring was good - pretty gobsmacking!

Jody - wow, that's a lot of stuff to carry around! I would love to have a go at trampolining! It looks so much fun!

Lisa - walking and stretching sounds like just the right thing for you at the moment.

Roxie - hope you had fun at the lake.

Did the Jillian Michaels Week 2 workout today. It's an endurance/cardio type thing. Keeps your heart rate up but you only use very light weights so no strength gains. Core is worked quite hard and she likes her push-up variations (tho you don't do as many as in Cathe). It's only 30 mins so it's the kind of thing you can do when you're short on time and feel like you've achieved something.

Hi everyone! Disc 1 done! I wrapped my wrist, it really helped. Ronne, sounds like a great day! I got Jillian's Shred the other day at a yard sale, 3 20 minute w/o's, thought it would be good for a day I'm short on time. Murphy, good job on 40/20, I kind of avoid that one! It's hard! Jody, that Jessica is so cute and has such a nice way about her! Lisa, how are you feeling? PT today? Roxie, how are you? So hot and HUMID here, have a good day, Mary

voot voot to all. I did AOL pm 9 (step and discs and core 1) Mary that JM might be good for inbetween sts days? Off to shower and work. Epiphany of the moment - must stop being my own worse enemy. ttyl

My back/left butt pain woke me up. Man, worse than my neck! I've had this happen before after an intense w/o, but after a 1.5 mile walk? I guess 1.5 miles is intense after laying in bed for 6 wks :) . I thought (stupid me) that I needed to stretch hammstrings and back, well, I did some research and it's the glute muscle squeezing the nerve (sciatica)--piriformis syndrome. Found some stretchs (some you do on Cathe), getting better. I guess I would get enough of the stretches of this part with some of the cathe but since I'm winging it I needed to find what stretches this area best with MINIMAL neck torque (even neck positions where you bend forward are hard on me).

Mary, Yes, PT today, been good with my exercises/stretches and then my butt stretches now :0 I wish I was naturally flexible!

Jody that's a lot of stuff to haul around!

Murphy, 40/20 has dread factor for me, you seem to do it a lot, I alwasy prefered 30/30

Roxie, I will probably not ever get to those heavy weights again. I'll go with Jody's long/lean philosophy....that's a scary thought following Jody philosophies :) LOL Jody

Ronne, I might need to invest in some shorter, easier workouts, hmmmmmm

Running late as usual. Did disc 2. It seemed real hard and then I realized that I was looking at the wrong column on the workout card. I was looking at the rep column for the amount of weight I should be using. ??? I was going crazy. Things got better after I realized the mistake. Gotta run. Shout outs and waves to all.

Lisa - butt pain wakes me up sometimes too, but I cannot stretch out DH. ;-) Feel better.
Murphy

Good Morning,

I am going to go for a walk my lower half needs a good long walk glutes are screaming. I have another funeral to attend a cousin of my came home from work last night and laid down and never got back up his girlfriend found him when she got home.

Murphy-good job with sts.

Hello

Roxie - that's awful. How old was he?

Murphy - Love the DH comment!

Lisa - it sounds like your butt pain is catching! Thank god for the internet, you can find out so much.

Jody - that's a good one!

Mary - I like Jillian's attitude. Quite different to other instructors!

Did Leaner Legs today. Skpped the last set of plie squats and deadlifts. Then read an article on the website about working out in heat and felt justified!!
Loving this weather. This is the first proper summer we've had in years.
Not loving my empty bank account. Waiting for a big invoice to be paid. Come on!

Oh Murphy, funny lady!

PT yesterday, couple new exercises, one they strap you facing a padded machine around your hips, put another strap around your upper back, point of it is to lean back and hold....I'm going to equate it to a superman. Uh, I normally skip those, guess I shouldn't have been. Massage didn't seem as long, but I think she got a spot good, woke up with pain where I think she worked it, had to take a percoset. Took .82 mile walk after PT (was wiped out--I always am) but wanted to get out since weather was nice. Then 1.42 mile walk today. Still have to do my PT exercises/stretches. I did stretch good after my walk.

Ronne, pigeon pose is good for this butt pain, I bet you never get it, my left has never been limber.

Roxie, sorry to hear about another funeral, seems bad things happen in clusters.

Hi Mary, I forget, what's your status withyour hip?

Jody, r you out there?

I ended up doing the original LIS and I forgot how much I like this one but I really should have put some risers underneath it was not as hard as I remember it being when I first got it many moons ago I thought I would die after I finished it but its alot easier now.

Ronne-I think he was 55 or at least in his fifties we use to spend alot of time camping with him and his mom, dad and sisters and had alot of fun.

Lisa-those supermans are good for your lower back and hamstrings.

Hi all! Today did MMA boxing, simple enough! Murphy, LOL! DH's can be like another kid! Ronne, hope the money finds its way into your bank account soon! Not long and you will be here! Roxie, so sorry, he was young. Lisa, you are on the move! I got a hip injection yesterday. They said it would increase the pain in the short term, should be feeling better by Sunday. We shall see! Hope everyone has a good day! Mary

This pt must be doing good so far it's noon and no need for a muscle cream.

Does anyone here foam roll?

They have me doing a lot of chest and back work on it. Must get the chest stretched and back muscle knots worked out. I'm thinking all the chest work in Cathe got my chest even tighter. Seems to me there's more we do on chest than back on some of the dvds, what do you think?

Ronne, hope the money comes soon. I'm lucky that we haven't had to worry about all of my lost income.

Did MMA boxing today. I don't know why I stopped doing these MMA dvd's. Maybe I will add them to the rotation again.

Ronne - I hope you are rolling in the green (money).
Lisa - glad to hear the PT is going well.
Mary - how is the hip?
Roxie - sorry to hear about all of these funerals.
Jody - feeling better?

Murphy

Hi all

Murphy - you must be channelling Mary!

Lisa - glad the foam rolling is working for you. No, I don't have one of those. I've seen a couple of DVDs use them. I think there's an old Karen Voight one. I think you're right about the chest. I sometimes wonder if it's because you perhaps can't go so heavy on back so she doesn't do as much. Although I think the XTrain workouts are more balanced.

Mary - hope the hip isn't bothering you too much.

Roxie - I like LIS although I still find the push-up sequence difficult!

Did 4DS BC cardio only. It's too hot to do any more. I just walked to the post office and back (30 mins round trip) and I couldn't believe how hot it is out there.

Good morning! Today did disc 2, not too bad. Ronne, hot here too. I feel like butter melting outside! I think we will just go sit in a pool! Lisa, DH foam rolls. I have tried it, I think it hurts! Hope your butt feels better. Jody, come back! We miss you!!! Roxie, all that running must be paying off! Murphy, I like MMA boxing and kickboxing, the fusion one has too much up and down for me! Hip is the same, I feel like we are just wasting money, seems pointless spending all this money to feel the same. I'm sorry, that was my whiney moment. Hope everyone has a good day and stays cool! Mary
