1RM Test in FileMaker for Mac/Excel

This is a wonderful tool, and it helped me start to feel a tiny bit less overwhelmed by the whole prospect. I'm still waiting for all of the bugs to be worked out to even try to get into the WM again, but having this spreadsheet is invaluable. Thank you for your hard work and willingness to share!

Oooookaeeee!!!!

Did my first 1RM test for 4 exercises... Barbell Curl, Alternating Standing Curls, One Arm Kickbacks and Cross Body Kickbacks. My bis are feeling a bit trembly, even though I rested for about 10-15 minutes between barbell and dumbbell curls.

Here are my thoughts: Since my left side is weaker I do the test with my right hand wherever there's a single arm exercise involved so during STS my left side will catch up. Also, you can test the same body part in two exercises if you use a different arm for each exercise. So there's a significant cut on the amount of exercises you have to test!!!

I believe that wide, narrow or parallel grip barbell curls for biceps would turn up to be the same weight during test, because although they might work different heads of the biceps the muscles would be able to lift the same weight in all positions. Does that make sense? So, here's another few exercises cut from the test.

I also had a look at the STS Blog updates, and the photos really helped. Have a look at them to make sure you use the proper form and stance during testing.

Still, it would mean a great deal if Cathe or SNM would clarify the "obscure" exercises, for example Seated Concentration Curls 1.5's, Reverse Dumbbell Curl, Standing Quarter Stop Curls... :)

That's it for today; tomorrow I'm planning on testing back and triceps again. I will test chest once I get the barbell stands.

BTW did you manage to download and open the zipped files I posted? I am thinking of reviewing the files and adding fields for Meso #, Week # and Type of Weight Workout.
What do you think? Would it help more?

Chris.

Wow thanks for the update and checking out Cathe pic on the blog is a great idea. that would be a great help to edit the files.

Thank you! I will definitely be checking this out! If I can do a few/day hopefully I'll be ready for STS!

I've sent the files to everyone who's emailed or PM'd me but some email addresses came back with internal errors. So, if you haven't received the files I sent by now please let me know so I can resend them, or try the attachments on my 07-25-2008, 07:36 AM post. They are properly zipped and you should have no problem opening them.

Updated FileMaker STS 1RM Test

I just finished working on an update for the FileMaker 1RM database which now includes automatic 1RM calculation and a "RETEST" indication if your test reps exceed 10. Download and unzip. I am still working on the Excel spreadsheet to include the same functions... Stay tuned!;)

You will notice that there's a slight difference between the WM 1RM and mine, due to the fact that I got the equation numbers from a bodybuilding site. Please adjust as you see fit. Besides, the 1RM calculation is an estimate with a +/- 5lb deviation.

Updated Excel STS 1RM Test

And here's the Excel file. It calculates your 1RM and if the reps you did exceed 10 it brings up "RETEST".

I saved it as .xlsx instead of .xls because the 1RM included calculation field is too long and has compatibility issues with older versions of Excel. It is compatible with Excel 2008 (Mac OSX) and Excel 2007 (Windows).

:)

Chris! Thanks so much for the wonderful spreadsheet. I just wanted to mention that I had no problem with the previous post's zip file attachment but this one did not work so well.

Thanks again!:)

I cannot open these files either, could you please email them to me also. Thanks I'll pm my email address too.

Ok... when you unzip one of the files you get two files with the same name but one starts with a "._". Delete this and just open the other.
