1RM Test in FileMaker for Mac/Excel

The 1RM calcuation won't work for me because I don't have the newest version of Excel. But just having the printout to be able to write things down and then enter it into the WM for the calculations will be a great help. Thanks again.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

And here's the Excel file. It calculates your 1RM and if the reps you did exceed 10 it brings up "RETEST".

I saved it as .xlsx instead of .xls because the 1RM included calculation field is too long and has compatibility issues with older versions of Excel. It is compatible with Excel 2008 (Mac OSX) and Excel 2007 (Windows).

:)

Chris.

VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!!!! :D

I'm bumping to bring the thread up a bit... I see a lot of posts regarding the 1RM Tests, so I guess this would help. :D

Cheers,
Chris.

I knew someone would take it upon themselves to do this. You are one brave soul and an awesome person. Thanks for making it easier for all of us.

Thought I'd re-attach them to make it easier for you guys to grab them... so, here they are!

NOTES:

-Excel STS 1RM Test.xls is for any version of Excel and does not include the automatic 1RM calculator
-Excel STS 1RM Test.xlsx is for the newest version of Excel and includes the auto 1RM calculator
-FileMaker STS 1RM.fp7 works for all version of FileMaker and includes the auto 1RM calculator.

All files work both on a Mac and PC. If you enter more than 10 reps in the Reps field (only in Excel STS 1RM Test.xlsx and FileMaker STS 1RM.fp7) the 1RM field returns "RETEST" to make the calculation more accurate. So, at any point you can print only the records which came up with "RETEST" to re-do them ;). Don't worry about the difference between the 1RM which comes up in the files and the 1RM in Workout Manager. There's always a ±5lb margin in the 1RM tests.

Many exercises are repeated in more than one DVD but I only entered the first DVD they appear in.
Also, have a look at the STS photos in the blog, as well as the YouTube clips to understand better some of the exercises which may seem kind of strange to you. The clips are a great way to know the rep speed you have to follow when you do the 1RM tests.

Again, whoever has trouble downloading the zipped files, send me a PM with your email address so I can send you the unzipped files.

Chris.
:D

Phew!!!

Finally!!!!

Managed to put all STS exercises in FileMaker... totalling 116 different exercises (unless I left a few out by mistake!!!)
Fields are: Disc #, Exercise #, Exercise Name, Weight, Reps, Reps in actual w/o, Body Part worked. All you have to do is fill in the Weight and Reps fields and you're set!!!

Also, Disc #24 has the exercises missing, so when they are posted I will add them to the Filemaker file and repost.

I have attached the FileMaker file (for Mac OS) and the Excel spreadsheet in this post. Just rename the "STS 1RM Test.zip" to "STS 1RM Test.xls" or the "Filemaker STS 1RM Test.zip" to "Filemaker STS 1RM Test.fp7". I renamed them using .zip because I could not upload any file with the extensions .xls or .fp7... :(

If you have any problems with the files let me know and I will email them to you

I have noticed a couple of things, though: For legs, the last four discs (37, 38, 39, 40) use the squat rack so I will be doing my 1RM for those only. There are 42 different leg exercises but only four in the squat rack DVDs.

You will also see that many basic exercises repeat themselves throughout the program so if you get overwhelmed with the amount of 1RM testing you have to do, just stick with those and adjust your weights accordingly for any other similar exercise.

That's it for now.. gotta put some eyedrops in my eyes!!! LOLOLOLOL

Chris.

NOTE: Since many of you had trouble with the attachments, I removed them and uploaded them properly zipped with my 07-25-2008, 07:36 AM post.
The attachment is a GIF and won't open in Excel (unless I am even more computer-illiterate than I thought I was). Will you please try posting again?

Are you sure? It downloads as a .zip file on my Mac and opens ok. Just send me your email and I will email the unzipped files to you.

Chris.

Ooooops! I just did! Hope they work.

Guys,

I seem to be getting "permanent fatal errors" messages when I try to email the files to some email addresses. I usually send them within the day I get your message, so if you haven't received the files by then please let me know so I can resend them or try an alternate email address.

Chris.

Chris,

Just wanted to take a minute to say thank you for your work on this...I sat down to figure out the best way to do the 1RM calcs today and this definitely makes the task less daunting...
had no problem with the files...

You Rock!....thanks again, or in other words euxaristo para poli!

1RM spreadsheet formula

What's the formula in the last column? Mine shows an error. If you tell me the formula, I can type it in. Otherwise the spreadsheet is awesome. I'll bet it'll look even better filled in!

This formula is only compatible with the latest version of Excel because it has many conditions ("if"s). You can try entering it but it will only work with this version.

Here's the formula:

=IF(E2=1;D2/1;IF(E2=2;D2/0,943;IF(E2=3;D2/0,906;IF(E2=4;D2/0,881;IF(E2=5;D2/0,856;IF(E2=6;D2/0,831;IF(E2=7;D2/0,807;IF(E2=8;D3/0,786;IF(E2=9;D2/0,765;IF(E2=10;D2/0,744;IF(E2>=11;"RETEST";" ")))))))))))

HTH,

Chris.

Hey, Chris --
I just wanted to thank you sooo much for taking the time to do this and to tweak it and to share it with all of us. What a very handy tool!
Thanks a million! You rock!

Thanks Chris! This was a lot of work!

But I wanted you to know that the Excel file for 2007 version has a typo in the formula for 1RM on the 8 rep calculation. (D2 is typed as D3 - sorry  ) It references the cell above the one you want to reference... I've fixed my version, but you might want to fix the original.

And for those who have already downloaded their copy and entered stats, you can fix your version by changing the formula in cell H2 to read:

=IF(E2=1,D2/1,IF(E2=2,D2/0.943,IF(E2=3,D2/0.906,IF(E2=4,D2/0.881,IF(E2=5,D2/0.856,IF(E2=6,D2/0.831,IF(E2=7,D2/0.807,IF(E2=8,D2/0.786,IF(E2=9,D2/0.765,IF(E2=10,D2/0.744,IF(E2>=11,"RETEST"," ")))))))))))

Copy H2 down the rest of Column H and your calculations will come out right. ;)

Chris, The others might have the same typo too depending on how you made the file.

Hi Shani!

Thanks for pointing out the typo!!!
It's such a long formula I thought I was bound to mess things up! :D:D:D
The formula's only in the .xlsx sheet.
Already fixed it so whoever I send it to from now on will have the correct result.
Also, as I've written a while back, I get error messages on some email accounts, so whoever hasn't received my email yet, please provide me with an alternate email address.

Chris.

Thank you Chris! I just opened the xlsx file just fine. How wonderful of you to do this. I was honestly thinking of doing this with Excel and had never gotten around to it, and I am so glad you did. I believe we met at the July Road Trip and had lunch (Kris, Saunda, me and yourself) at the sushi place. Anyway it is great to "hear your voice" and thank you for all of this hard work!
