    IT BAND SYNDROME

I would advise having your hip checked. My ITB problem was caused by an arthritic hip.

Cathe and others -- perimenopause and injuries

The year I turned 50, I ended up with two injuries to my right leg while playing tennis right before I got my period. The second injury involved my iliotibial band and I spent four months in physical therapy and found out I have arthritis in my right hip. My leg has not fully recovered after...

Over 40 -- Okay to Do High Impact (please read)

I did high impact until I was 50 when I injured myself playing tennis. While in physical therapy, the therapist noticed my hip was tight and recommended x-rays. It turns out I have moderate arthritis in my right hip. I did have symptoms -- stiffness in my quad, without pain -- that I...

    Cathe, Low Max is EXCELLENT!!!!!

I agree. This tape is perfect for those of us who cannot do low impact because of injuries or joint problems, but want a creative, intense workout.

    Low Max Version of MIC

I would like to see a DVD similar to MIC with a low impact step routine plus a low impact floor routine with increasing intensity.

    For Mature Exercisers Only

While being treated for a leg injury, I found out I have arthritis in my right hip and can no longer do high impact. My symptoms were only tightness in my quad, especially when I stood up, never any pain. I e-mailed Cathe and suggested she add to the website modifications for the intervals and...

    sore left knee

I would recommend seeing a doctor. My leg was sore near my knee and I waited several weeks. It turned out I have a tight ilio-tibial band. The tightness is actually in my thigh, but the sensitivity is near my knee. I have to go to physical therapy three times a week and have a stretching/leg...

    high step use?

I did the same. I am not comfortable stepping on the Fanny Lifter with heavier weights, partly because of stability, but also because I don't think the material is as sturdy as the regular step. When I use the Fanny Lifter, I use The Firm's 8 lb stick rather than my body bars. Since the old Firm...

    cathe - protecting knees

I've had a leg injury from tennis and I've found that Cathe's workouts can be modified easily. I've been using one riser rather than two. Also, I do not do them daily. Her earlier workouts are slower and she builds up the intensity, starting with low impact versions of the steps. She also...

I purchased the DVD at Coconuts.

    non yoga stretching/flexibility videos

Unfortunately, the DVD does not have chapters, so you would have to fast forward. However, the stretch routine is divided up into standing/sitting/barre stretches that could be done separately. The Athletes part has a separate section for groin and hamstring stretches.

    non yoga stretching/flexibility videos

There is a new DVD with two stretch routines by Miranda Esmonde-White. One is Classical Stretch, the other is Stretching for Athletes. Each is 50 minutes long. Her method is very different from other tapes I've done. The moves are based on ballet and yoga. Part of the stretches are done...

    Mindy Mylrea??

Mindy's workouts are challenging, but not quite as intense as Cathe's from a cardio viewpoint. Her intervals are not as difficult as IMAX and she doesn't have steady, high intensity cardio like Cathe's step tapes. Her cueing isn't as good as Cathe's, but Cathe is by far the best at cueing of...

    Cardio Videos

Please make several videos only with cardio and abs or core work. Any cardio is fine -- step, hi/lo, kickbox. I would love to see a tape that combines hi/lo with kickbox.

    Yoga Journal's Yoga for Longevity

This yoga routine is good for those who are not too flexible or if you're in the mood for a less rigorous yoga workout. It is one of the easier Yoga Journal tapes. I'm a fan of Karen Voight's yoga style. Even though the moves are classic yoga, I find them more athletic. Her instruction is so...

    Body Max or Circuit Max????

Both are excellent tapes. I think you should base your decision on how much time you have to work out because Circuit Max is one hour and Body Max one and a half hours. I've found Circuit Max the best one hour tape I've ever done that combines strength and cardio. But Body Max is a more...

    Simple Choreography Recommendations

Even though Cathe's choreography is complex, she breaks it down into its components and repeats everything at least eight times. If you start with one of her earliest tapes, like Mega Step Blast or Step Heat, you will learn many of the steps she uses throughout her tapes. I have found her...

Why aren't I sore at all?

I am never sore after S&H either, even though I work hard and use weights that are heavy for me. I attribute it to the slow, steady break, the relatively short sets and the breaks with stretching.
