Your Favorite Nutrition Program?

What is your favorite Nutrition Program and why?

I've done the Daily Plate and didn't keep up with it. I hated going in everyday to track what I ate and it didn't seem like it was worth my time. I still eat very well when not tracking calories.

I've looked into Cathe's Nutrition Program and searched the threads in the forums. Don't see a lot of people who have used it and commented on it in the forums. Just wondering if I should try it or not and would like feedback.

I'm not looking to count calories. What I'm looking for is a more organized meal plan so I can go to the store with a specific list. I end up at the store going "okay I'll make that and have that and grab that too" so by the time I get to the checkout, I'm like, "WAY TOO MUCH FOOD! What was I thinking!?" So by the time I get around to eating that head of cauliflower or that asparagus in the frig, it's starting to go bad. Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks,
Brandie

Oh, I'm there! I don't end up with way too much food, I just end up with stuff that, once I get home and try to start planning meals, mind you, I'm planning for the same day, I realize I've bought food that doesn't really go with anything else I bought or already have! By the time I get around to picking up something to go with it, because, really, who likes to go to the grocery store ALL the time? - what I have has gone bad or is close to it!

I just need meal planning help. I'm hoping my Clean Eating magazine will give me that help! I usually "plan" meals by figuring out what I'm craving or what sounds good at lunch time and pull it out to thaw for dinner that day!

I'm right there with ya!

I never "want" veggies. I buy frozen since they don't go bad fast, but then rarely feel like making them. I buy a lot of what I'm into at the moment...right now it's EB eggs (hahaha) on whole wheat english muffin for breakfast, Happy Cow low fat cheese with turkey on a whole wheat english muffin and usually a salad plus homemade turkey chili.

I'm someone who will eat the same thing day in and day out because I'm not a meal planner and I don't really have a lot of time prepping meals.

I have to say, several years ago, to lose weight, I went on Jenny Craig because I needed someone to tell me what to eat and when. And it worked. I still maintain that mentality today...if someone would tell me what I need to do to lose weight, I would follow it to a T. I'm so lazy!

I'm the same way. I have some asparagus in the fridge right now about to go bad because I had planned to wrap it with low fat ham and haven't done it yet. However, if you want a diet plan someone told me about this one called fatloss4idiots. It gives you a list of items to choose from and a twelve day menu plan, pretty flexible because you're not eating different things. After the twelve days you select other items. I think it mixes up your calorie intake to shock your system.

I want to get that magazine too! I'm hoping it will have lots of recipes too!

I recommend reading Tosca Reno's Eat Clean Diet book. She lays out several eating plans in detail, and even provides shopping lists for each one. She does not believe in counting/logging calories, and uses your own hand to measure servings. It's pretty simple, and will wean you away from processed, crappy foods.

I've followed several of her plans with great success. However, if you get to the point where you want to see serious changes in your body (fat loss, more muscle...) logging what you eat is essential. Even for 3 or 4 days, it will give you an idea of what and how much you're eating. Yeah, it's a pain, but so worh it in the end.

Hi Bigbadbrandni, yes the programme is right
I don't try it yet, but many of my colligues are following it, they are really satisfied. I'm indecisive about to start or not. I would only like to have some other comments.
Ciao

I sometimes read about Tosca Reno in this forum, the problem is that for me it would be a little bit complicate to read her book becouse I'm italian and I could translate too much (measure and foods name), while Herbalife has a italian web site. but I'll watch her site probably I can take some good ideas the same. Thank you for remind me about her

I actually just got done reading that book! Hence, why I'm on this new mission to better plan my meals. If I eat what I plan, much easier to log what I eat. I also am on the list at the library for the Eat Clean cookbook. Yeah, there's a line. I'm in sixth place! Thanks!

Here's another vote for Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle. I'm just reading it right now, but believe me it's one of the best books I have ever read. It has helped me to understand things that I've always known, but he explains them in such a way that they've finally clicked in my brain. If you don't have it, I highly recommend it. It's very motivating!;)

I'm still waiting for my first issue. They say up to six weeks (why it takes lo long, I don't know), it's been at least four now. tick, tock, tick, tock.

Give me my magazine! :(

I follow Dr. Joel Fuhrman's "Eat to Live" plan. It is a plant based diet and there is no calorie counting. The basic premise is three meals per day, no snacking, plant based diet focused on lots of greens, no processed foods. Hi recommends trying to follow the plan 90% of the time. I am at his recommended "ideal healthy weight" and can't believe I maintain it without effort. I never thought I could maintain this weight, let alone without effort. I no longer have "cravings" for foods. I just had all of my bloodwork done and my numbers for everything looked healthy including iron and proteins (many people think vegan's are low on that). My total cholesterol came back at 108 and I feel great. My skin has cleared up, my vision has improved (could be coincidental) and my energy is high. I have no doubt that this is how I will feed myself for the rest of my life.

Good luck finding a program that works for you.

Namaste,
Monica

Over a year ago I read Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle and was able to lose some weight and build some muscle. However, after tracking my food intake for a while I was tired of having to log everything that went into my mouth. Also, because I did not eat meat or poultry at the time, I found myself eating fish and egg whites a lot to meet my protein requirements (along with a daily whey-based protein smoothie.) I simply got burned out following this plan. I also developed a problem with my energy level - I was tired during the day and waking up all night long. I also started doing something I had never done in my life - eating in the middle of the night. My weight work was causing bad DOMS at almost every workout, even if I wasn't upping my weights. I LOVE doing heavy legs, but I was starting to dread doing them because I knew the day after I would be so sore that I wouldn't want to move.

Needless to say - my weight came back because this plan wasn't working for me. I know it DOES work for many people here, but I needed something different.

Just by chance, I happened to see The Thrive Diet in my favourite bookstore and decided to give it a read. I wanted to sleep through the night, have more energy and recover faster (I want to run a 10k in September - my first in more than 20 years!), so I was really interested in what an athlete was eating. I also wanted to become a true vegetatian, so this book seemed to be written for me. I started "following" the diet at the beginning of June just after finishing the book. I began feeling better almost immediately. Within a week I was sleeping through the night. My DOMS were almost eliminated. Excited by these results, I also read Eat to Live by Dr. Joel Fuhrman and incorporated this information into my diet. I haven't used either book's meal plans, just some of the recipes and information.

Heres my results so far:

Improved sleep - no waking up throught the night.
Eliminated night time eating.
Eliminated food cravings.
Greatly reduced DOMS.
Improved recovery time - only one rest day per week, able to follow my monthly rotation all month without extra rest days. (Actually ADDED workouts :))
Increased energy.
Lost 11.5 pounds - mostly in my abdomen (2.5 inches) and thighs.
Have eliminated coffee for artificial energy.
PMS symptoms practically gone (I surprised when I started my period this month because I didn't have any of the usual signs.)
No tracking of calories, protein, carbs or fats. Eat when I am hungry and eat until I am satisfied.

There have been days when I haven't felt as energetic, mainly because I have been cutting back on my coffee consumption. There were also days when I didn't eat enough - I have had to learn to listen to my body more closely because I am not having the food cravings that I was mistaking for hunger.

I suggest you read these books and see if maybe this will work for you instead of recording and tracking your food intake and macronutrients.

Corrie

ETA: I wanted to add that I have stopped taking the antibiotics I was on for my acne and my skin is looking great!

Monica - I am happy to hear that another person has found this way of eating so life enhancing. I didn't think that I would find it so easy to give up dairy and eggs, but I don't even miss them. So excited to be a vegan!

I'm in the process of reading Tom Venuto's The Body Fat Solution. Does anyone know how this book differs from Burn the Fat/Feed the Muscle?
