Yet another BCP question

I've been on some form of the pill since I was 19 (34 now). I'm ready to get off of them and am considering a tubal. I was actually scheduled for one a couple of years ago but found info re: something called "Tubal Ligation Syndrome." Women were claiming after the surgery, they were having depression, severe cramping, heavy periods, and so on. That freaked me out a little and I canceled. I suppose it could be the normal period after coming off hormonal birth control but was just wondering 2 things:

1. Has anyone had a tubal and what was your experience?
2. After coming off the pill (if you've been on it a long time), did you have any weird symptoms (hair loss, weight gain, anything else)?

Thanks,

Kim

Hey Kim,

I was on the pill since I was 16 and Im 35 just came off last year because I was going to get a tubal but I convinced my husband to get a vasectomy. The only wierd symptoms I had was bloating for 3 months after I felt so fat but It went away and also I can feel when I ovulate every month! I hate it-it hurts! I was also scared about the tubal maybe you can convince your husband? The vasectomy was not bad at all.

Hope that helps some,

Lisa

Hi Kim,

I had a tubal 8 years ago after the birth of my 3rd child at age 35. Other than the recovery from the surgery and child birth, I didn't experience any strange symptoms. Although I didn't get my period for a year due to nursing but when I did they were pretty much the norm.
I never suffered fromj severe cramping or depression. I just within the past year started having heavy periods but that is due more from my age than from the tubal so many years ago.

I have never regretted haing a tubal. I was tired of taking the pill every day and with 3 kids it was hard to even remember to take them.

Good Luck, Carolyn

I tried the vasectomy route but it seems when you discuss even minor procedures in THAT area, it doesn't go well ;)

The bloating for a few mos after is JUST what I need when trying to lose weight. My dr thinks being on the pill forever is completely fine but I'm starting to notice little spider veins in a few places and I know that can be from the pill (mom doesn't have them). Also, even though I take Yasmin, I'm wondering about a little weight loss after coming off. I had bad periods before the pill. They were late, early, heavy, 7 days long and bad cramps. Combine that with my age, it could be a disaster! But, dr said my periods COULD stay the same as they are on the pill when I come off. No way to know for sure I guess.

I had a tubal 19 years ago, about a month after my second child was born. It was one of the best things I ever did. I don't remember any problems other than tenderness around the incision for a couple days.

I had a tubal a couple of years ago. Other than pain on the first day after surgery, I've had no problems at all and am thrilled with my decision to have it done.:)

I had a tubal 15 yrs ago, shortly after the birth of my third child. It was with laporoscopy (sp) and I have had absolutely no problems with it.

I had my tubal after my third c-section a year and a half ago. Smooth sailing so far, I can't tell the difference either way. I haven't been on the pill for about 4 years so I don't really remeber any symptoms coming off. Good luck with your decision!
