Will I like/Do I need MIC/Rhythmic DVD?

Cathlete
Hello,

Just getting back into Cathe after being tempted by other workouts that just didn't deliver, dang those other boards - lol!

Anyway, thinking I may need more Cathe cardio. I currently have the Intensities, Timesaver, CTX, CK/CM, and KJP/SB and L&G/KPC on the way. Am considering the MIC/RS/IM DVD, but are these workouts going to kill me, and are they 'dated'? My cardio capacity has diminished somewhat from leaving Cathe for a few months, but I can get through Imax2 w/out passing out.

Opinions?

Thanks,
Kim

I don't think so, the only one that "appears" dated in the set and outfits is MIC and it is a killer of a workout. I was new to Cathe's stepping when I got Body Max then I preceeded to get a DVD bundle that had MIC/RS/IM on it. I really thought I was gonna die in RS not to mention Imax. But over several attempts and a bout with plantar facitis I have managed to be able to make it through Imax with some modification in the end. I am still working on RS and I do like MIC in that it can be broken up into 2 different workouts which is nice.

Hope that helps you some. I say go for it.:7

Hi, Kim! "The Other Annette" weighing in . . .

The RS/IM/MIC DVD is the most used DVD in my collection. They are not going to kill you (almost) and if it's improved cardio capacity you're after then this DVD is a given for your collection. I-Max 2 is great "training" for I-Max The Original; I think you'll find that I-Max The Original is more challenging than #2, and you'll derive fantastic benefits. MIC is awesome (especially the hi/lo section, but the step section is great too) and RS is a real coordination challenge as well.

Always there for you when you want to spend more money . . .

Kim:

I don't use Imax or MIC much, usually just the hi-lo bit for when I put together some hi-lo medleys using various Cathe videos. I don't think the step section on this one sparkles. In one sense it is dated, the choreography is not what Cathe is doing now: BUT!!!!!!! I would not want to be without my Rhythmic Step!

It is one of my most used cardio routines. It always picks me up. The music is good. The routines sparkle and it includes a mini cardio challenge in each section, because some of the moves can really get the heart rate up, and a challenge at the end that I love.

I know some people have had trouble picking up the moves, but I literally got it by the second try and now the moves are etched in my memory forever. It flows. Flow is a great thing in a workout!

Others say it is moderate in intensity compared to other Cathe cardios. Sure, it's not IMAX, but thank God, because you can't do that every day. I say, it's as intense as you make it. You can schlep through the moves or you can put your all into it, and if you choose the latter: YOU WILL BE SWEATING!

Good luck deciding! And you will love Step Blast by the way. One of my faves.

I prefer more complex choreography, so I think MIC and Imax are boring choreography-wise. They are, however, wonderful, intense workouts and will definitely improve your cardio capacity. Rhythmic Step is not nearly as intense, but has exceptional choreography that flows well.

I definitely think the DVD is worth buying, whatever your preference.

Imax 2 as training for Imax?! Now shall I be frightened or challenged? Can you say "blatently looking to be enabled"?

Appreciate the feedback, I really wasn't aware how popular these are. The are on order, I definately need some 'real' cardio.

Thanks again,
Kim

I enjoy this DVD. I just did IMAX today. :) It was fun and seemed easy to me for some reason. I think my cardio capacity has really increased doing other Cathe cardios. I've been just doing the Timesavers actually and IMAX was easy for me today!! :)

Kgravel,
I differ from most in that I find IMAX 2 much more challenging than IMAX 1. Maybe it is because of the years of training in an actual boxing gym with all of the plyo/ high intensity floor work. For me, and only for me, Intense moves on the step get my heartrate up much higher than floor moves. IMAX 1 does all of it's blasts on the floor. I guess it truly depends on what you are used too. Just adding another opinion :)

Blasts on the step vs. blasts on the floor:

Actually, several of the interval blasts on I-Max 1 incorporate the step: blast #1 (power-7's and power-15's); blast #3 (knee-lift-leg-abduction-knee-lifts with propulsion off the side of the step); blast #5 (incorporating two-footed jumps onto the step); blast #7 (fast-paced lunges off the sides of the step). Those are a tad less intense than the intervals that are strictly on the floor, but still tub-thumpers.
