What's the oldest piece of clothing you own?

My woobie!!! :D:D:D:D
It's a grey champion sweatshirt that I swiped from a high school boyfriend. It's threadbare and soooooo comfy. I wear it around the house all the time, which is why my family started calling it my Woobie (security blanket). It's at least 25 years old since that's how long I've been out of school.
I am wearing it over a shirt right now BTW

I buy vintage dresses and stuff all the time. I just bought a wool sheath from about 1963, and I have a black velvet cape that I bought about 25 years ago, and it's probably from the 50s. And I have a beautiful 1940s suit.

But if we're talking something that was bought new, and I still have, it would be my husband's Peter Hamill t-shirt (doesn't fit DH anymore). It was from a show right after he left Van der Graaf Generator, so it's a least 30 years old. But it looks so freaking cool and it's so comfy!!!!

I still have my goofy high school letter jacket complete with a zip hood that I never zipped because it had Gentry Singers (the name of the show choir I was in) lettered across it when it hung flat open. I'm not sure if I described that right, but trust me it seems pretty geeky to me now.

Ellie..I found my woobie today!!:D Well okay I don't call it that but I had to post about this b/c of the coincidence. I also have a grey sweatshirt from my HS boyfriend, I dated him from ages 13-19. It was his basketball sweatshirt and it's so comfortable. I only wear it around the house. It's about 18 years old.

Anyways, I had lost it somehow for the past 6 months or so. Searched everywhere and couldn't find it until today. Where you ask? Well, once warmer days hit I fold up my comforter and shams and store them in the closet. I took them out today and my sweatshirt was between the comforter and shams. Yay! :D

I have a few things I keep just from sentimentality - like the sweaters my (now) husband gave me the first year we were dating - over 20 years ago!

But of the "old" things I have that I wear, my favorite is a pair of cotton knit pants that are a black and white pattern. I bought them in 1993 and I still love them!

I used to wonder why my parents - and other people who were older than me and who I considered "old" - wore stuff they had forever. Now I am doing the same thing! But I think it's because when styles change to something you don't like (which for me is most of styles out right now!) you just hang on to your "old faithful" clothes!

I have a great sweater/cardigan my mother knitted for me when I was doing my BA in Cambridge in 1984-5. The city is flat and open, exposed in the Fens in the UK and the winds from the 4 corners of the Earth all convene there in Winter. So, my mother knitted this fabulous cardigan, real big and chunky, so I can and could wear it over my regular layers of top and sweater for extra warmth. The wool is a dusky purple with little blue and white flecks in it and touch of mohair so it is really soft. I wore it that year all the time and now that I live in MI, I wear it still, every Winter in this horrid, hard to heat house we live in.

It's a special garment because my mother is a gardener, she never knits, so for her to make this for me and for me to actually love it, is a huge deal!

That's my oldest garment because I clean my closets out every year and give old things I never wear anymore to Purple Heart.

I have a hooded pull-over that me and BFF from college both purchased on our first ever road trip (as adults) from WA to Edmunton Mall in Canada (Alberta I think) and we both wanted to mark the occassion! I haven't worn it for 20 years, but I still can't bring myself to throw it away or donate it. I can't tell you how many times I have put it in the Donation pile, only to pull it back out from guilt! I KNOW my BFF still has hers as we get a good chuckle checking to make sure we both still have it!

I have a long sleeved black henley that I wore in 8th grade in 1982. This is now my gardening and painting shirt. Since I have been up and down the scale there have been times that I haven't been able to wear it but I've always kept it because it is my oldest shirt. Its in pretty good shape with no major stains, I could probably wear it and other than the faded look no one would know its history.

Probably my oldest is my mom´s fur coat that she gave me. I think my Dad gave it to her in the 70s. anyway, living in WI, I LOVE it. I also have a sweater that our next-door-neighbor when I was growing up knit me...am not exactly sure why, but it is big and beautiful and has sentimental value. that must be at least 25 yrs. old.

Wow, where to begin?!?

My favorite is probably a pink lace camisole that I bought in Paris circa 1985 at the Tati department store, which is a legendary, crazy French chain store. Like Target, but ... French! I don't really wear it much; it's made of some sort of indestructible synthetic material, kinda cheesy... but it's from the few, too-short years I lived in Paris!!! I actually still think it's kinda cute. So I'll probably have it forever.

I have even older stuff from the late '70s including a tight T-shirt (that was the style then:p) that looks like something from a disco roller derby. Doubt I can even squeeze into it. But I'll never toss it!

Those are just two of the highlights. I may have something from my childhood, but I don't think I really want to think about how far back that was.

I have a T shirt from 1976 when our high school football team won the class A state championship. My son "borrowed" it and some of his college buddies wanted to know where he got the Abercrombie vintage Tshirt!!

oh, oh, oh... I know now!!! I have an itty bitty pair of my first tennies that I wore when I was 2 years old! almost 40 years ago! they are about 3-4 inches long, little red plaid things with the white toes! I thought about hanging them from my car mirror at one time, but I was afraid I'd lose them! they are now tucked away with the Memory Book my Gramma wrote for me! sorry, but I knew there was something I was missing!

old tee shirt

Fraying at the collar. Got it for girl scouts, I think I was 12 yo. I'm 30 yo now. I should throw it out, but it is so comfy and soft. I don't have much left since I cleaned out my closet.

I have an original Led Zeppelin Song Remains The Same Concert T Shirt From 1979 that my Dad found at the local High School he worked at when I was a little girl. I keep it hidden away with my other little treasures from childhood. I had a buddy in fourth grade offer me $25.00 to by it from me because he loved Led Zeppelin and I would not give it up for anything, LOL

Jeez, I thought my crap was old! LOL!

OK I just have to ask--those of you who still have your cheerleading outfits, what do your SOs think of them? ;)

I have my mother's wedding dress apron. I also have and wear my high school jeans! Along with my preppy cords with whales on them. No I don't wear those with my preppy whale sweater. I have my hot pink monogram sweater than I wore in school.

I also have some of my mother's jewelry. I lost her jewelry box though. I also have my dad's ole sweater. I wear every once in awhile.

Coke shirt

I have a Coke shirt from 84.....long sleeve white pullover with the Coke emblem in bright red on a baby blue background....it was my fave.

I'm only 28 but I have a white t-shirt with puff paint ducks and beach balls on it...from when I was 4. If I cut my arms and boobs off, I could still wear it :)
