What Is Your Favorite 80's Movie??

>Less Than Zero. I love Brett Easton Ellis, he really
>captures what it was like to come of age in the '80s.

Geez, what a kinky little movie that was. I haven't thought of it in such a LONG time. That's the first film I ever saw Jami Gertz in. I hadn't followed her acting career AT ALL since then. Funny thing is the other day while skimming channels I got a glimspe of her on that family sitcom she's in now. I don't really watch it - can't even remember the name of it right now - but in my mind I had that domesticated image juxtaposed with her character in that film and I thought my, how times have changed for dear Jami ;-)! I know, I know, it's called acting...

Purple Rain
Purple Rain
Purple Rain....and oh yeah,...Purple Rain(ok I'm a Prince fanatic)

I also agree about the Breakfast Club. Can't flip past it if I find it while surfing!

Hey! Nice thread! I think I'll check out most of these movies you mentioned--I was a kid in the 1980's and now I'm on this 70's/80's nostalgia kick. Checked out "Dallas" from my library just to remember what people used to dress like and the way they used to speak. (I mean, aside from Texas accent, soap opera dramatics, and "rich people" fashions)

"She's living in sin with a cowboy, and hell--he can hardly even walk!" --J.R. Ewing, "Dallas"

You guys have listed most of my favorites, including
When Harry Met Sally
Ferris Beuller's Day Off
Raider's of the Lost Ark

No one's mentioned a couple of my favorites:

Tootsie
The Color Purple

~Diane

ETA-forgot to mention Gremlins and Big

'Aliens'

I hadn't seen 'Alien', but a group of my friends talked me into going to see 'Aliens' and man..what a ride that one was!

I absolutely fell in love with Bill Paxton and I have followed his career ever since. :) Yeah I know he did a lot of whining during down time, but when it was time to 'get on the clock' baby was there. Loved him in that role. And the scene right before he dies, where he goes off verbaly on the aliens...that was great. I have seen that done in so many films since and no one captures that energetic, 'stand and fight' zone he was in. I think 'Aliens' is probably my favorite American movie of all time.

Did you like him in Weird Science? :p :)

I LOVED him in 'Weird Science' as the older brother from hell. I also loved him in 'Frailty', I have watched that movie I don't know how many times. :)

Oh yeah, that's what his character was. *lol* Chet. Didn't she turn him into a pig, if I remember correctly?

OH, OH, OH, I almost forgot one of the absolute BEST 80's movies....Leathal Weapon!!! How can you forget those baby blues???

Terms of Endearment. A total sobfest but so wonderful

Jonahah
Chocolate IS the answer, regardless of the question.

I was a child of the 80's and there were so many movies I liked. However, here are some of the standouts for me:

Better Off Dead (I want my two dollars)
Valley Girl (Like, totally, fur shur!)
Night of the Comet (I watched this over and over with my friends)
Sixteen Candles (Even today, I can recite this whole movie. Hughes did such a good job with the little details - remember the little kid wrestling in the background while the main character talked with his friend about Sam while they did "chin-ups"?)
Visionquest (GREAT soundtrack)
Witness (Beautifully made story, starring Harrison Ford)
Bladerunner (A great Harrison Ford, artsy-fartsy, cult classic with a fabulous soundtrack)

Oh, and Terminator!

I like this movie because the creators did an excellent job of tying everything up at the end. So many movies leave some loose ends that make you wonder. This movie didn't. When the end came, everything made sense.

Can't Buy Me Love

Ferris Bueller's Day Off was so DARN funny too!!!!!!!!!!!!

What about the Gremblin's? Scared me to death!!!!!!!

:)

Couldn't pick just one!

The Princess Bride
When Harry Met Sally
The Empire Strikes Back
Labyrinth
Ladyhawke
A Room with A View
Say Anything
Better Off Dead
The Neverending Story
