what do you count?

hi ladies! i was wondering if you just focus on counting calories or do you count everything else as well (protein, fat, carbs)? i ask b/c trying to keep up with all this counting is making me obsess a bit about food and i think it would be easier just to stick with counting cals but being mindful that i incorporate healthy proteins and fat with each meal of course.

I don't count anything. I used to keep a food journal where I wrote down everything I ate each day no matter what. I did that for years actually and then one day I thought I have had enough of it. Now I just sort of watch what I eat meaning if I had a cookie at lunch I meight have one more after dinner and that is it. I just try to balance it out by not overindulging in anything and if I do I cut down the next day. My weight has stayed basically steady and my clothes fit. I also went to eating 3 meals a day and one snack at 4 p.m rather than so many small meals. I really don't think that much about food any more and that is good IMHO.

I count cals and protein. I used to just count calories, but for me, keeping track of protein has pushed me to make better food choices. (Example: I could have a handful of Sun Chips, but if I want to reach a certain number of protein grams, a couple of ounces of cheese would be the better choice. More often than not, I go for the cheese.)

I haven't counted anything for the last week because I've been sick, and man, it really makes a difference. I still eat better than before I started with Cathe, but not all of my choices have been the best ones. Plus I notice I eat way under what I probably should for calories.

I just count the amount of cookies I eat, how many scoops of ice cream go into my bowl, how long I pour the chocolate syrup over the ice cream!!! :D:p;)

I count calories, protein, and fiber...

A "good" diet day is somewhere between 1500-1800 calories, at least 100 gms protein, and at least 25 gms of fiber.
If I can hit those amounts in protein and fiber, I'm usually eating pretty balanced... fruits, veggies, and clean protein.

LOL Mary!!!

I count calories, and since I´ve been doing that I´ve gotten to my goal weight. I eat pretty low fat and count my fruits and veggies, but as far as protein and stuff, I just can´t make myself do that.

Before I buy something, I check the label to see what percentage of calories come from fat. If it's more than 20%, I generally don't buy it. However, I do make exceptions for a few things, like the nutrition bars with the nuts in them. That's all I do these days. I'm not allowed to count calories. If I do, I have to go back on meds because for me it's a sign that I'm becoming obsessive again.

I'm with Phyllis. I don't count anything, and I'm teaching myself not to step on the scale umpteen times a day. I am trying to watch what I eat, (as in watch it go in my mouth), and excercise. Also, snaps to my husband because he is a fantastic coach and sounding board.
