What are you doing for Active Recovery?

Amy Steppe

For those of you who are doing Cathe's STS rotation, what workouts or what to you plan to do during the active recovery week?

I really need advice on this as the STS cardio is just as intense as the STS weights.

Should I still use the STS cardio and lay off weights completely during active recovery?

After Meso 1, I didn't do weights during my active rest week but I did do some Step/Kickbox/IMAX workouts, 5 days that week, and I regretted it. Meso 2 was very challenging so I wound up throwing myself behind a week by busting my butt w the cardio; I had to take a yoga/low intensity "rest" week when I should have started week 2 in Meso 2.

Now that I'm moving on to Meso 3 in 2 weeks, I am def taking advantage of my rest time next week. I plan to do Yoga, light dancing, and walking: nothing too crazy.

That is what I am afraid I might do - I am so in to the Shock Cardio workouts that it is going to be difficult to not do any of them during active recovery.

It is going to be hard for me during the active recovery, but I know it is necessary if I am going to follow Cathe's STS rotation.

ITA with Melissa.

This time, my active recovery week will be walking, lighter cardio (Ellen Barrett) along with stretching, pilates and yoga.

I am glad you posted this but wish you had a few days ago! I start back up Meso 2 on Sunday (this is my 2nd time to do and STS rotation and am this time doing the 6 mo rotation). Anyway, since Sunday of this week (my "active recovery" week) I have been doing STS shock everyday. I am seriously beat, but way addicted and can't stop - but I think I will now. Maybe Fri and Sat I will take off to prepare for the grueling Meso 2 on Sunday!

Thanks for the advice everyone!

I think I will do some of Cathe's less challenging (as if there really is one) workouts.

I love Step Moves and I want to begin doing Athletic Step.

I also want to nail MMA fusion.

Is Circuit Blast as challenging as Cardio Core Circit?

So I think these workouts are all I will do during active recovery.

No Core Cardio Circuit or HIIT though......

I have the Shock Cardios but don't have the STS weight workouts, so I am following the rotation and substituting P90X and Cathe's other weight workouts for the STS days. I am planning on alternating various circuit and kickbox workouts with yoga during the active rest week. I may change my mind though if I am feeling burnt out!

I alternate yoga days with cardio days - I used some kickbox, mid to low intensity step workouts. Seemed to work beautifully! I did take one full day completely off.

Circuit Blast is awesome and fun BUT is nowhere NEAR as hard as CCC!

Good to know! I consider CCC the hardest workout I've ever done - it is way harder than HIIT.

CCC makes IMAX 3 look like a walk in the park.

Actually you have to do workouts like the IMX series and HIIT to even get in shape for CCC!

But I am sooooooo loving it!

Seriously, Amy, I was in a horrible mood after CCC. I really hate to have my butt kicked. I actually hate things that make me feel that out of shape. :( I need to try it again though. I made it through - but cheated a few times. Those roll-back hop up things really pi$$ed me off! So YES, it was just like doing Imax 3 cardio blast only but actually harder!

Clarissa - the first time I did CCC - I was blown away. I was amazed though at how much more doable it was on just the second time doing it. I couldn't really do the roll-up thingys the first time - or I was slower than Cathe and crew, but the second time I could do them. And I did preview it before doing it the first time - hopefully you will find the same thing the next time you do CCC, too.

Yup! Just did CCC today again finally and completely did an awesome job at it. I had a terrible chest cold last time I did it and hacked the whole time! Maybe that is why I did so poorly - duh!

I actually really, really loved the roll-back jump up things! YAY CCC!

Clarissa

Awesome! Isn't it funny how that can happen from one time doing the workout to the next? I am so glad you loved it this time, too!

What amazes me is in the workout manager calendar it says CCC burns 397 calories. I could swear I'm burning at 700 doing that workout. It is tough!!!
