***We're In This Together*** (May 2013)

Arrrggghhh! Bob is advocating 800 calorie diets?!?! I have officially lost all respect for him. That very same idea is one of the (MANY) reasons I despise Tracy Anderson, actually. Survive on an itty bitty little tiny bit of food, exercise for hours (according to TA only doing HER workouts...everything else is a waste of time) and all for the holy grail of being SKINNY! Now I understand why Nia Shanks went off on him recently with the Skinny Rules thing...which I immediately was surprised to even see him write up something like that, and now it sounds like he's going even further with it. Can you tell I'm disappointed? ;)

I haven't been watching either one of those shows. I'll have to check 'em out! :D

Marie- you'll have lots of time for formal exercise when B gets older! Trust me, you are waaaay more active than I was back then. There was just NO time for mama back then! Once they start crawling, all bets are off because they are into everything once they are mobile. lol

Sarah- I love Korean Kimchee! My BIL is Korean and his mom showed my sister how to make it so sometimes she'll make a huge amount of it. She says it makes her kitchen pretty stinky when she does though, lol. They've made Nori rolls with it which is sort of like sushi but instead of raw fish they put kimchee in the middle of the rice and wrap it with the seaweed. Yum!

Hi Jen!

Gotta run...TTYL!

Build legs done! Wow, that kicked my butt. Even though it was short, it moved so fast I was a sweaty mess. I had to pause and take breaks and put down weights. Then at one point I threw the vest off. It reminded me so much of total body STS legs. We will see if I am sore tomorrow.
I also went for a 3 mile walk this morning before hand.
As for DOMS from yesterdays chest and tris..... Not too bad right now. But I often am one of those people that the next day is worse than the first. My front shoulders are more sore from the partial rep chest flys because that was a good stretch. Either that or bad form.

So funny, I went on a rant about that book a month ago to my mother and said I was super disappointed in Bob too. I really don't care if he doesn't expect people to exercise on that many calories or not (I believe he advocates a walk in the morning and metabolic conditioning for 20 minutes 5 days a week on that too). 90 percent of the women in my life are eating to few calories for their bodies to function. I believe this is almost exactly like the HCG diet as well because on it you were only allowed 500. Oops, i got a fired up again.

Nat - I like sagi. I thought the WO flew by. Unlike, p90x that crawled. I thought sagi looked like he was gonna lay the smack down on his crew a few times lol.
I do love ethic food as well. Have you ever had salvadorian food or Peruvian food? So you do one hiit a week, right?

Colleen - I like musicals but not for the singing there has to be dancing. I when I watch movie musicals if there isn't dancing I fast forward. Like when Judy garland signs somewhere over the rainbow, boring, thank god for fast forward. Now on the other had when gene Kelly is tap dancing give me signing in the rain all day long! I have been having a disiree to make kimchi as well. Too funny, I told my daughters one of them needed to marry an Asian man that can cook. They like most Asian food too.

Marie - does b like music. This is the age when the girls started to really like music and would sit on the butts and rock back and forth. Then eventually when they could stand they would just bend their knees rhythmically to the music.

Jen - hello, miss hearing from you.

Sarah

Hi everyone!

No workout for me yesterday. Only having 4hrs sleep, I was tired as heck :(.
This morning while Bella was preoccupied :D I wanted to see how much of TTM Triple Tabata premix I could do without any interruptions. I did it all! That's a great little w/o when you want to be in/out quick. I'm getting spoiled by the shorter w/o's with this rotation :p.

Tonight's w/o will be Bulk Arms. I'm hoping to increase my weight #'s.

Sarah
How are you feeling today? Ya, Build Legs does move pretty fast. I consider that one a full cardio w/o cuz my HR is through the roof -- especially during the step-ups into the back lunge.
The partial rep chest fly's are complete killer! Did you end up getting DOMS?
Speaking of calories, I remember in my late teens, I dropped about 30lbs counting cals to 1200/day. I was so meticulous, recording everything I ate and the calories in my journal. Now that I look back, that was WAY too low! I can't imagine reducing my calories to such an extreme low anymore. It's sad when people feel that they have to practically starve themselves to lose weight :(.
I've had a lot of South American food. Have you ever had Empanadas? Ohhh yaa!!! :p.

Colleen

I'm not digging Bob anymore. I'd like to see him on a 1200 cal diet (the amount in his book for men) and see how well he functions with his Crossfit WOD . Whatever, I'm disappointed in him too, which is sad because I actually really liked him and his w/o's :(.

Have a rockin' day ladies!

BB back and bi-ceps done. Along with painting the family room, yuck! I do have Doms, nothing to bad though. Just a general feeling of soreness through the body. I am thinking tomorrow, I will will be super sore.

Nat - I love empanadas too. I have only ever made them once, but they were a great snack to have for me in the kids in the freezer because I made a ton. I don't loose on that amount of calories just sit where I always am. But who knows where that is anymore? ; )

The beast up beast up talk does get a little old, but its okay. It's not any worse than Tony Horton. Have you noticed what big gaps they do with their weights. Like today the Asian guy started off his bicep Dumbell curls with 10 pounders (which is where i was) but then he jumped way up after that. I am wondering if there is any benefit from say starting with 5 LB then going to 15 rather then like I did which was 10, 12, and 15. Just a thought

Sarah

Hello ladies!

Yesterday's workout was Cardio Leg Blast + 100 rep hip thrust (50 lb barbell). I'm thinking about playing around with the weight and rep counts of the hip thrusts. That is, maybe try it out with heavier weight but less reps just to change things up. I'm finding it's getting harder for me to get lower body DOMS these days. :( With that in mind, I am going to add more weight to my weight vest for Sundays leg workout and really push my dumbbell weights as well. I've been using the vest with 21 lbs and this morning I added 4 bars (6 lbs). We'll see if that makes a difference!

Today's workout was HoCo June Year 2 Hardcore. Another goodie, although compared to the other Year 2 ones I've tried so far it wasn't as awesome (but still a keeper :)). Then I played around with my weight vest and attempted some barbell squats (just 12 reps...really just playing around). There is no doubt that I can't do more than 50 lbs on that barbell without a squat rack. :( I was even a little worried I wasn't going to get it up safely today, and I was by myself. Sometimes it bums me out the limits of working out at home and then I remember how much I hate the gym! :p

Sarah- Update on the Shakeology... I've tried it now about 4-5 times and I have to say I'm not all that impressed. If anything, it seems to be upsetting my stomach. I'm not sure what could be in there doing it. It's vegan supposedly so I'm assuming there isn't any lactose in it and I checked for soy protein isolate (which I also get digestive upset from) and that wasn't in there, either. I'm going to stick to my whey protein I guess. :)

Natty- I'm so sorry about the lack of sleep the other night. We must be sympatico because I had the same thing happen to me that night as well! Did you catch up on the zzz's last night? Yesterday I woke up tired but then made myself workout, which seemed to energize me for awhile. I was doing fine until about 4:00 pm and the fatigue hit me like snowplow. :( I was exhausted driving home, plus it was thunderstorms so not the best time to be tired and out of it when driving!

Better go! TTYL girls!

Just got my butt kicked by BB cardio. For a short WO it was tough. I am very tired though from painting. I like to think that has something to do with it.

I have a sore back and biceps from yesterday also : )

Nat- do you switch your days of for keep on schedule?

Colleen - I seriously don't know how you do hip thrusts with 50lbs. I just did them again with 30 and thought I might die. I hate gyms too and for the most part like working out at home. The one exception would be I would love to try to go heavier on the lower body. That and drop my weights when I done with a set. Just cause it makes it look like you pushed yourself that much harder and can't bear to hold it 5 seconds longer. Today while doing bb cardio I wanted to drop the weights. But knowing I'm trailer trash and would probably fall through the floor I thought I must set them down gingerly : )
I have been eyeing squat rack bench combos on CL for awhile. I got rid of the treadmill so that means I get to replace it with something else, right? ; )

Sarah

BB Cardio + Abs for me today . No Sarah, that one kicks my booty BIG TIME. I was tired today from another restless sleep, and normally I'm ok with the plyo push-ups (alternating between some on my toes and some on my knee's) but this time I said F-that and quite early .

You guys are not gonna believe this, but I was eying squat racks on-line today! There are a few on sale here in Siberia :D. Check it out:
The Treadmill Factory - Strength Equipment - Power Racks / Smith

I have visions of me squatting my body weight and feeling BAD A**. MArk is seriously gonna kill me if I try to squeeze in another piece of equipment in that room.

Sarah
I am keeping to the schedule as written (w/o's in the same order), but I have been taking 2 rest days instead of 1. The rotation will take longer, obviously, but sometimes I'm just too darn sore and need the extra break.
Ya, I noticed yesterday during Bulk Arms that the jump in weight from 15R to 12R is HUGE. I honestly don't go up in large increments like that. Actually, no wait, the only time I do that is during chest, back, legs. My bi's, tri's, shoulder's, ha ha NO WAY in hell.
I find Sagi pretty hilarious sometimes. There is this one workout, when he says "you don't want me to come get you" and then he looks at the camera. Right then I'm thinking "oh yes. Please come and get me" LOL ;).

Colleen
Awhile back I posted a youtube link of Nia doing a 1 legged hip thrust . Just in case you want a harder variation. I agree with Sarah, I don't know how the heck you do the hip thrusts with 50lbs . You are my hero ;).
Sorry to hear about the Shakeology upsetting your stomach :(. I can't believe Beachbody made such an innovative shake like that! Apparently there is no comparable product on the market.

Have a great evening guys!

Morning ladies!

Rest day for me today.

Natty- I forgot about those hip thrust variations so I'm glad you mentioned it again. I had intended to try the single leg variation, and when you reminded me I quickly went and tried it out...holy moses! It is waaay tougher doing it with one leg! I did 20 on each side, body weight only, and my heart was pounding away. Awesome! I'm going to have to throw those in there with my regimen and see how much I can work those up to rep and weight wise. I didn't try it with any weight yet...it was tough with just body weight! :D

I totally will be jealous if you guys get squat racks! LOL I never thought I needed one until now. I never imagined I'd work my lower body strength up enough that I'd be longing to squat that heavy. :p I am never satisfied with what I have in my arsenal of fitness schtuff! I swear, every time I think: "okay, I'm good...I'm happy with all my stuff"...I turn around and want more. I even bought Zuzana's new Power Strength series on Amazon today as well as some weighted gloves for kickboxing. I have other weighted gloves but am NEVER happy with the ones I get, so hopefully this one will be better! It was recommended by a VF check in buddy. Both purchases weren't too expensive, so I don't feel TOO guilty. ;) In case you guys are curious about the stuff I got this morning:

Amazon.com: Zcut Power Strength Series 3 DVD Set: Zuzka Light, Zuzkalight.com, Darren Capik: Movies & TV

TITLE Deluxe Weighted Gloves, 6 : Amazon.com : Sports & Outdoors

Like I said, it never ends this quest of mine...

Better do something useful at work here! TTYL!

Working today. I went for a walk on my break and the plan is to walk when I get home too. Tony is off and has been sending me pics of B all day. Miss him!!!!!!!!!!!

Love you girls for saying I shouldn't feel guilty for only walking. Like you said Colleen- all bets are off when they start crawling. It's definately been harder to get workouts in but I'm active as I can be during the day so that helps :) Every little bit counts! I did A Tonqiue workout last week. Took me 3-20 minute sessions but I did it. Poor B got bored ;)

You gals are rocking your workouts! Nice job!

Colleen- Oh my jealous of your purchases. You're right! The quest never ends. Tony and I are going on a strict budget til we pay off my school loans so I'm going to have to control my urges ;) Enjoy your purchases!

Natasha- Get the squat rack. You deserve it! Hello my name is Marie and I'm an enabler ;)

Sarah- WTG on your DOMS :) You're working it! B does love music :) It's so cute! Tony is a singer and always sings to him and he just loves it. It really calms him down if he's upset too. I sing him "Hush little baby" every night :)

Hi Jen!

Marie - I used or sing you are my sunshine. The second part of the song thats says "the other night dear when I layed sleeping, I dreamt I held you in my arms, then I awoke :eek:dear and I was mistaking so I hung my head and cried" brings tears to my eyes ( or maybe it's just my signing). I also sang favorite things because I think it's one of the songs I actually can sing a little anyways. I do believe that is one of the nicest things about phones is being able to send pictures so easily. I bet it does help to be able to see your little man during your day.

Colleen - your gloves look awesome. There is just something about wearing gloves for weights and boxing that makes me feel more like a bad ass. You must have the tightest tush EVA. Sorry to hear about Shakeology too. I can cross it off my list of things I want; ) I am thinking of finally springing on the ultimate yogi at 57.00 on deep discounts. I like that price alot!!

Nat- week 1 of BB down!!!!!! I have the worst DOMS in my deltoids right under my back armpit. I have never had them this sore. Honestly I would say my back and triceps is where I lack any definition. So thats awesome! I might do chest and triceps tomorrow I stead of Sunday and use Sunday as my rest day but only if I'm not sore. Those seem like decent prices on the squat rack. I,want one than has a bench in front but I the back part you can squat from. But then I think would it be the end of the world if one day a week I went to a gym and hit the LB hard?????

Sarah

Hi everyone :)

Yesterday Bella and I went to a new park we found. I'm fairly new to this town (only been here for 3yrs) and so I'm still not familiar with some area's. I go for a walk, take a different route, and then I find a park :D. We had to leave after 30min because it was just SO hot out! How are the temps where you guys live?

Awhile back I think I posted that I wanted to try and get in a short 2nd LB w/o during the week. Well...yesterday I did the BBW from the Rock Bottoms rotation (minus barre section). Holy crap! I finished it off with 1min KB swings and 1min jump rope (with an actual rope, which is harder). The w/o last around 15min, but I was sweatin' like crazy!

Today's w/o will be Bulk Back. I'm increasing my #'s .

Sarah

BB has given me the most wicked DOMS ever!
I want to hit my LB heavy and hard too. If you can swing a monthly membership to the gym, then I say go for it! I remember Nia saying in one of her blog articles that if you only did squats, deadlifts, pull-ups, push-ups, you could build an incredible, strong body, with just those exercises.
Thanks for the tip about the PB2. Spit up? Really? Hmmm . Not even a slight PB taste? I trust your opinion of food.

Marie
It's true that once they start crawling and walking, OMG things get SO much harder! Bella was a very adventurous baby -- she was into everything. I spent the majority of my time making sure she stayed alive  LOL :D.
I love how Tony is always with B. Mark was/is the same. Him and Bella are extremely close. The other day she told us that "daddy was the #1 best and I was the next best":mad::D.

Colleen

Congrats on your new purchases! I feel the same way as you about the never-ending want/need for fitness goodies. I thought my quest would end with the TT . I checked out Zuzana's stuff before, but unfortunately her style does not appeal to me at all. She is incredibly fit and strong, I just dislike her for some reason -- maybe it's her boobs flapping around everywhere lol :p. Yup, I'm probably jealous of them ;).
I need a squat rack eventually because how the hell else am I going to squat my own body weight? That is a personal goal of mine .

Jen
Have you left us?

Today is Lydia's dance recital! :D I want to squeeze in Crossfire before I have to take her to get her hair done (no way I can do an updo/bun!). However, everyone is still asleep and it's 8:45! It's okay for the kids since we were up late and I figure they can sleep as long as they want, especially Lydia since this will be a long day for her. I may kick Mark out of the bedroom soon though so I can workout.

Natty- I totally hear you on the boobs thing with Zuzana! LOL I thought I'd be put off by her, too but she had a lot of fans on VF. After awhile, I was convinced enough to give her a try when she came out with the ZCut cardio series a few months ago. I really liked her once I did the workouts. Once I got going, I didn't even notice the cleavage. hehe She is a lot more sincere and sweet than you would think by the cover shots on the dvds. :) Now Tracy Anderson on the other hand...did I ever tell you I got her Mat workout dvd just to see what all the fuss was about? She is popular with a certain segment of VF'ers so I thought I'd try her, even though her rhetoric and philosophy ticks me off to no end...I just couldn't resist seeing what all the fuss was about. Sort of like when I was a kid and everyone around me was smoking and seemed to think it was so great and I just had to try one to see what they were talking about. Well, just like cigarettes...TA sucks! LOL I swear, the looks on her face and the way she moves made me feel queasy and gross...like I had accidently stumbled onto a soft core porn channel. Plus, the woman rarely cues. Add that to everything else I know about her and onto the trade pile that dvd went!

Sarah- That is a crazy good price for Ultimate Yogi!!! You should totally get it! I got it for $90 and that was a decent price compared to when it first came out. It was well worth it for the price I paid and for $57 it is a STEAL!

Marie- Which Tonique do you have? Have you checked out Born to Move by her? Oh my, I just love that one! It is REALLY hard, but in a good way. I wasn't so crazy about Tonique Premier when I got it, so I traded that one. I didn't really like the voice over in that one and couldn't get past it. However, in Born to Move it's Sylwia in voice over and she is so encouraging and sweet. I just love her! :) BTM has 4 workouts on it, although I've never done the Energy Stretch one since she does a lot of that on the knees, which I avoid. My favorite is workout 2...hmmm, since I've been lifting heavier I've put that one aside for awhile but now I'm itching to do it again after typing this...lol. So many workouts so little time!!

Hi Jen! I hope everything is going well for you in Texas!!

Have a great Saturday girls!

Checking in from Fridley Minnesota ;)

Taking a nice walk on my lunch break! It's a beautiful day out :)

Ended up being not to sore today except in my lats still. So I went ahead and did Sundays WO today so I could take tomorrow off, yippee.
We also had a community 5 k today. I was planning on just walking but my kiddos wanted to run. So I ran about 2 miles of it, but as soon as I started running down hill, my knee started getting sore and cramping. The same feeling I was having a couple of months ago. Confirmed my feelings on running and maybe I should stay away for awhile longer. That's another reason I thought BB would be a good thing. So I asked my hubby if he wanted to try bb with me today. He hated it, and said " you think this is fun" ? He much rather jog for 2 miles I guess. I much rather lift weights. Part of the reason he said was not enough room, or the right equipment. Which I think this fall/winter I will do nia's program. So I can listen to my own kick butt music, some really trashy rap or alternative : ) this week is suppose to be super nice weather.

Nat- pb2 does have a peanut taste. But with a little spit up mixed in ; ) I like the idea of your mini LB WO. Might have to get in on this one too. I probably wouldn't pay for a monthly membership, yuck! Just pay the 5, to get in and out once a week. That's only $20 a month. Did you ever post picture of your haircut?

Colleen - I hope you post pic of Lydia. Have fun with the family. I love the way my girls look in a bun. Did you wake mark up and kick him out?

Marie - I think your doing awesome at getting little bits of exercise here and there. You will figure out what works and just when you found it, b will change again. I used to be able to run along side the kids as they were on there bikes. But alas, they are much too fast now.

Out to dinner tonight with the hubby as a early b-day celebration. 40 is here!

Sarah

Hope you ladies are enjoying the w/e :)

My w/o yesterday was Bulk Back. I was determined to up my weight #'s . Speaking of back, I'm on a stand still with my pull-ups :(. I just find it awkward to do them on the TT. I was able to do 2 full unassisted on the money bars at the park the other day, so I know I can do them. I need a real chin-up bar :D.

Sarah
Nia says she never recommends running for fat loss. She says of you love and enjoy it, then by all means do it, but she won't encourage her clients to run if they need to lose weight. Sorry to hear about your knee :(. How is it today?
I also would much rather be lifting iron. Kuddos to you hubby for trying BB though! Mark is like me, he loves, loves lifting heavy and hard. He finds cardio torturous. I will always say, you gotta incorporate exercises you love, or else you won't do it. That's why I never got on the HC craze, because I know I would absolutely HATE it. Just for the sake of a tight core? No thank you ;).
When is your b-day?! How exciting, the big 4-0!

Colleen
How did the dance recital go? Please post some pics :). I bet Lydia looked like such a doll.
Now I gotta check out clips of TA lol :D. Meh, I'm not a fan of trainers who encourage the itty bitty pink weights .
When are you doing Beast again? How did you like Sagi? At first I was a bit annoyed that he referred to himself as a 3rd party often  but then he really grew on me. There are so many comments that make me bust out laughing during the w/o. During Bulk Back, he says something along the lines of how huge his lats are getting and how he is going to fly away. Then he says "Body Beast Airlines -- fly with me". OMG, too funny! Anyway, the guy knows his stuff! Love the results I'm seeing :).

Have a great day everyone
