Weightloss Challenge Now to Dec 31st - Aug 10th

Morning ladies! walk/run this morning was slightly more successful than yesterday, but the real success is on the scale - I lost another pound! I'm so jazzed, need to remember this feeling for when things aren't going so well. One more pound down and I'll be at my lowest weight in 5years, hopefully I'll see that in the next week or so :). So last night I had a bowl of strawberries & blueberries after dinner. By the end I had to admit it was a great dessert. A lot of bulk, sweet & tart & under 100 calories. Much more filling than any 100 cal snack pack I've tried!

Renee - I'm a computer programmer, so I don't have any experience with those work from home outfits, sorry! Do your research and know that if something sounds too good to be true it is. Did you get that walk in yesterday? Don't beat yourself up over not going all out in a workout, sometimes we just can't give it our all and that's okay :)

Shereta - no food at your own party? that doesn't sound fair, but as long as you don't feel deprived. Can you get your 10 miler done before Thurs? Seems like moving it up in the week might be better on your recovery?

Tina - good luck! Seems like you've had a bit of bad luck on your rides, it's time for things to turn in your favor :). Have fun w/ the kiddos.

Rhonda - I don't have any experience with the w/o you mentioned. Congrats on not gaining during your vaca - that's awesome :)

Hey Melanie - looks like we were posting at the same time & I missed yours. Give it a few days before you weigh yourself again. You may get more satisfaction after your muscles have some time to settle down from your 10 miler. You're also doing STS right now and I've read that weight loss is hard to accomplish while doing that program. You may want to focus on your lean body mass instead of total weight. Do you have a scale that does that calculation? Alternately whip out the measuring tape and take your measurements. You're putting in the effort, it's going to show somewhere!
 
I did not get in a walk. DS came over but I did drag my spinn bike to the bedroom and got on a steady ride while watching every body loves Raymond lol.
I am still tom well it is at the end so I didn't weigh in yet. I will tomorrow. Today I did yoga relax to get riid of headache, it worked! Then I did css. + step premix ..then goot my headache back after that!
Well I'm eating egg white omelet and whole wheat bagels nnow. Gonna hope in shower.
Melanie I feel ur. Frustration. I'm there with you as well! I felt like. Giving up. Alot but one day out of the blue someone told me my buttt looked soo perky! Soo hey something is happening. And my sister ask me how am I keeping my arms from looking flabby! So I may not see it but like I said somthins happening and iits gotta be good ...I been doing tjis forever it seems. If I can hang inn here so can u. Show me those teeth! Lol
 
Hi Rhonda! Welcome :) I have never heard of the BEAST or DeltaFit programs you spoke of so I am not sure what they consist of. You can't go wrong with a cardio and weights rotation. Cathe has loads of them. I think I gained your vacation weight for you this week :eek:

Melanie and Shereta your mileage is unbelievable!! Congrats to you both! You must really like to run!! I must say that I am struggling. I think Im pushing too hard & fast tho. I will try to back off so I don't quit :eek: Do you guys run straight through or take walk breaks? I know Mel was reading Jeff Galloway that preaches this approach to running.

Melanie don't get so wrapped up in the scale. Did you eat enough calories to compensate for that ride? How about fluid replenishment? Your muscles may just be holding on to the water weight after that intense w/o. It will all balance out don't worry. I put more "weight" to what your measurements are than the scale reading. Do you measure? It sure helps to see the inches go down especially when the scale doesn't budge. I tend to see my measurements decrease, then later the scale moves.

Hi Sue! Good job with the walking :) Im glad one of us is! Yea, Im a big sweater too :( I filled out the forms, but haven't mailed them in yet. Thanks for helping me with how to go about thinking about the races. They will definitely be a beginning number! How many weeks have you been run/walking now? Im impressed you are still going strong. Keep up the good work! Wow, you did a warrior dash?! A guy I was dating wanted to do it this summer & I would've gone with him, but he's no longer around.

Tina you are such the bike warrior!! How long have you been riding? Good luck at Mt. Washington!! You'll have to know how you survived!

Renee that is excellent to get in some activity while watching tv! You can even do an easy spin on the days you do get a w/o in just to get some extra movement in. NEAT activity really helps with weight loss.

Yesterday I did IMAX 3 cardio only. It is fun and fast. I followed it up with Push Pull upper body 2 sets and I have chest DOMS today! This morning I did my run/walk. It was hard for me today mentally to get thru that w/o. Then later today I did the Lower body split from Muscle Endurance which is leg press mania! Nice to be kickin back right now :)

Quick most to say it wasnt my birthday party on Saturday. It was for a one year old. But, I did eat the food I cooked for our guests.

I run most of my runs straight through unless I stop to take a gel and get water.
 
Well, our hike didn't go as planned. About 90 minutes into our climb we found out a hiker died just a few yards up the trail, so we turned around. It really put a damper on the rest of the day. We just couldn't stop thinking about the hiker and his family. We'll try a small mountain closer to home this week, none of us are very eager to go back to Mt. Washington anytime soon.

I'll have to double up on STS this week, as it didn't get done today. We have a nice bike ride planned and a water park with the kids. Needless to say, the diet is out the window this week.

Today was some Cathe fun with TTM. Man, that's a sweat fest for sure. PMS trying to take me under. I've gained a few with the rich food from the weekend. And we're heading out of town on Friday for the weekend. Lord, help me. I got some good relaxation time in last nightl. I so needed it. Feeling great nowl.

Sounds like everyone is doing well. I did Susan Chungs rapid fire kickboxing this morning. I need to figure out what I want to do. I don't like when I get in these "funk" kind of modes and not sure what workout to do.

I got on the scale this morning and it says I a up 3 pounds. Put a damper on my mood this morning. I am hoping it is water weight or something and will be gone soon. I certainly don't need to keep going up in weight.

Trying to figure out why it was pretty easy before to lose the weight and this time around I can't seem to get the scale moving in the right direction. I need to look at the calendar and see what I was doing when the weight was coming off.

Good morning everyone.

Thanks so much Sue, Renee & Gina for your encouragement. I did take your suggestions and last night I measured myself, and compared the numbers to 6 months ago. That made me feel much better! I've lost 1 inch off both thighs, 1.5 inches off my butt and 1 inch off my waist. I wasn't thrilled about the 1.5 inches off my chest, but whatever.

So, that really helped me to put things into perspective and to remember that the number on the scale doesn't tell the whole story.

Tina - that's awful about your planned hike!! What happened to the man? Aren't you so proud of yourself for sticking with STS? What an accomplishment.

Shereta - I did TTM too this morning! I really love that workout (especially when its over!!)

Sue - A BIG CONGRATS to you on the weight loss! Also its such a good thing that you're enjoying your berries as dessert. We have to retrain our brains almost to view healthy food as yummy and stop focusing on wanting icecream, brownies, cake etc. etc.

Gina - don't push yourself on the running. My husband just started running and I told him to only do 15 minutes for the first week, 3 times a week. Even if you feel like pushing yourself - don't. Also, if you really don't like running, don't force yourself to do it! I hated running for many years, and it was only when I was ready for something new that I decided to try it again, and I fell in love with it.

Rhonda - we all feel your pain about the scale. I can't believe how much harder it is to lose weight now that I'm "older" - When I was 25, it was so much easier to lose the weight. I've tried following what I did then to lose the weight, and it doesn't work. My body has changed, and I need to figure out what its asking me for in order to function the best way possible.

I'm thinking of going grain/wheat free for 2 weeks and seeing if that helps at all. I've hesitated before to do that because I'm not sure if I can sustain that kind of diet, but I'm just going to try for 2 weeks. I'll have to figure out what to eat for breakfast cause I always have oatmeal every single morning, and have done for 8 years. Plus every night I have popcorn, so I'll have to find a new snack. And then there's my muffins that I always have as a mid-morning snack. I'm sure I'll go through withdrawal big time.

Wow. Melanie see! That is wonderful ....I don't understand what's going on with mine. I don't even have inches lost. It seems to be shuffling around I guess but I do have pictures..I don't LOOK as squishy.. my butt is rounded insttead oof square. But the pounds went up on scale.. and I don't see inches on tape measure gone except almost hallf inch on arms. That is it! It does get irritating. Okay has anyone heeard of that no weightt loss but a few. Pounds shows heavier yet u have NOT gained inches sheew! But you can see pics I'm nott really smaller but things are looking shaped? Confused ...maybe I'm wishing.
I did yoga yesterday and css with step added. I do like that one a lot!
Today I may try kickmax. I haven't "done this one yet..is it fun?
 
Gina what is NEAT mean? Lol sorry I'm still learning.

Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis (NEAT), which is basically any movement that isn't intended as exercise like fidgeting or pacing. So easy walking (like when Sue walks and works on her treadmill) or riding (like you can while watching tv) which doesn't really get the heart rate up, but has you moving, would be in that category too. Any extra movement helps! My butt unfortunatley has been tied to a chair to much lately...I gotta get moving myself!!

Oh and Renee, my measurements are the same as last year, but I am also up a few pounds so yes, it is possible!! We are shaping our bodies :)

Today I did Circuit Max. I haven't done that one for almost two years. It kicked my butt, but I stayed with it. Matching her 5 and 8# weights were very challenging! this one has hi/lo which Im not a real big fan of. Makes me think of the 80s w/os, but it was a nice change. I burned just under 500 calories! Then I did abs from Muscle Endurance.

Wow, Tina, that was a lil freaky and odd about that hiker. You mean you were there like when it happened? Is that why you didn't go any further cuz he was still on the trail? How terrible and tragic for that family. enjoy the water park and relax about not following your diet. You are staying active!

Shereta and Melanie great job with TTM! I can't believe you guys do Cathe's hard stuff inbtwn those killer long runs! You go girls!!

Rhonda you sure do have a variety of w/os. Never did a Chung one either. I always have workouts planned a few weeks ahead of time. Some days that works for me cuz I don't want to waste time thinking about what Im gonna do (too many choices), but I also allow myself the freedom to change it up if I feel like doing a different w/o for that day. It's too easy for me not to w/o if I don't have a plan ;)
My weight is also up. I've lost and gained the same 5-8 pounds now a few times since the beginning of this year! And, now I'm all the way back up :( I don't think Im mentally ready yet to push it hard, but I am starting to moniter my intake this week. I know I have to cut back on the calories. Im just eating out of stress and habit at night again. Thank goodness Im still working out or it would be alot worse!!
You will get going again don't worry! Just start somewhere then adjust weekly based on your results that's all. You've done it before, you can do it again :D

Melanie you are right. I push myself. I will back off. It's weird cuz in a way I hate running, but I want to be a runner. Go figure! I will give it a few more tries with this in mind. Thank you! and thanks for saying its okay to not run. Just knowing that I don't "have" to helps me. Man, I'm such a psych case ;)

Sue I enjoy berries at night too. I just pulled out some cool whip to add to them. Just to make it a lil more "desserty". Congrats on your weight loss :D

Gina, we were warned by hikers coming down that it had just happened a few yards ahead and his family was by him. Not something I wanted my children to experience. I assume it was heart problems. The rangers at the bottom said they sent their fastest man up with an defib., but he was too far up. I don't know how they were going to get him down, it was just before Tuckermans Ravine and the trail is basically rock stairs. Those rangers must be in top physical shape!
 
I just eked out a 4ds kickboxing only w/o before dinner. Didn't feel like working out, left it until too late in the day, but it's done and I've got that satisfied feeling :)

Renee - hang in there! I'm impressed you're working out at all with PF & headaches. You'll be seeing results as long as you keep going.

Gina great job on filling out the forms. My warrior dash was no great accomplishment. it took me more than an hour to finish about 3 miles + obstacles. I wore the wrong shoes and had blisters the size of golf balls. Nice job on working out through the DOMS, I'm a big old baby and don't want to do any workouts when I'm sore!

Tina sorry to hear about your trip! hopefully the rest of the week will go better :)

Hi Shereta - I don't have TTM yet, been reading all the comments here and it scares me! don't let the PMS beat you!

Rhonda - sometimes weight loss & gain happens and there doesnt seem to be a good reason for it. work your plan and adjust as you learn more about how your body responds to different food & exercise.

Melanie - nice inches lost! see, something's happening, it'll show up on the scale at some point :)

1.5 miles of hills and .5 mile run at 10:15 pace. wow. didnt think I could finish it, but must train to run hard on tired legs.

I think I may have found a rotation to try to follow. I love kickboxing and it has kickboxing in 3 times a week. The other days is a circuit day, total body strength, and a leg day.

I think this is doable and you can do all Cathe or combine with other instructors. Today was the total body strength so I pulled out STS total body. Haven't done that one in a while and it felt good. Yesterday I done a kickboxing workout and so I have that day checked off. Will be interesting to see if I see a change following this plan.

M - Circuit
T - Kickboxing
W - Total Body
Th - Kickboxing
F - Leg
Sat - Kickboxing

Shereta - good luck with the 10 miles today.
Gina - yes I have a ton of workouts and believe it or not don't do many of them. I try to sell or trade but sometimes I don't feel like getting rid of them. I have workouts from Susan Chung, Tae Bo, Kelly Coffey Meyer, Mindy Mylrea, Spinervals, Kathy Smith, All sorts of Yoga, and others and of course Cathe. I also have a spinning bike, recumbent bike, treadmill, weights, squat rack, bench, accessories for the bench, a home gym, so you wouldn't think I would get bored or run out of ideas but I do.
Tina - sorry to hear about your hike.

I'd like to join your weight loss challenge. My goal is to drop 10 pounds. I'm 5'9" and wear a size 8, and weight 163. I have 4 young kids and I'm 35 years young :)
Right now I'm on Meso 3 week 2 of STS. I just love that program, this is my 3rd time thur. I also love to run but right now I'm trying to keep some foot pain from getting worse so I've decided not to run my usual October marathon here in Detroit. I've been keeping my runs to 5 or 6 miles.
I noticed that Melanie mentioned going wheat free for a couple weeks and I'd totally be game to do it along with you. I too have eaten oatmeal each morning for probably 10 years!!! I'm also trying to figure out what to do after I complete STS. I run 3 mornings a week so I'd like to maintain that portion of my workouts, as much for physical benefit as for mental wellness (it's my time, and my time only - with 4 kids I need that). So, I have the new CrossFire and To The Max workouts, both of which are still in the shrinkwrap :eek:. I love lifting moderate to heavy weights and not a huge fan of Step. Athletic Step is great but I don't have the coordination for the "dancy" stuff.
Anyway it's nice to "meet" all of you. I'm looking forward to losing this 10 pounds which hopefully will allow me to see much more muscle definition.

Rhonda - I really like the look of your new rotation with the kick-boxing & circuit work. It looks really well balanced and will probably be a lot of fun for you.

Today is my first day of wheat/grain free. So for breakfast I had an egg-white omelette with 30 grams of low-fat mozzarella cheese & shredded cabbage. For a snack I had 1/2 cup of cottage cheese and some cherries. I'm actually feeling pretty good - I wasn't taken over by any obsessive hunger pangs. Lunch today is a tuna salad with veggies & avocado/yoghurt dip.

I have no idea if this wheat/grain free diet will help at all, but I realize that my body is changing and so maybe are my nutritional needs/limitations.
