Troy Lite or is there anything that compares to it ?

Cathlete
Ok after doing Cathe's PLB I really need to get a good barbell.
I have one but its a pain getting weights on & off so I usually use Dumbbells.

So I was looking at the Troy Lite Bar w/ weights and the price isn't bad but its the shipping. So is there anywhere else to get it ? Or is there anything out there that would compare to it ?

And is it the Troy Lite Bar what Cathe uses in her workouts ?

Thanks!
Laura :)

I just got the Troy Lite bar and weights last week and they are great! One hint.... order an extra set of the grip/clips that hold the weights on the bar.. I happened to have an extra set from an older weight set and it really makes it easy to add weight with another set. I don't remove the one already on the bar, just add more plates and another clip. Then I take off the last plates to go lower, and am all set. Sure saves time especially in the pyramids LB when you have to keep going up and down in weight on the bar. Of all the weight sets I have had, this is the best... and yes I believe this is what Cathy and crew are using.

Thank you,

Where did you order it from ?

And do you think that is plenty enough weight or should I order more weights with it ?

Or what about the Wal Mart weight set, the 55# one ? Does anyone have this one. It is definately cheaper but if its cheaply made and hard to get the weights off then its not worth the cheap price.

RE: Troy Lite or is there anything that compares to it ...

I just ordered my Troy Lite last week. I considered the Walmart set, but my local Walmart didn't have it, so I was going to have to pay $20+ in shipping either way.

What sold me on the Troy Lite was the smaller weight plates- it has four 2.5's, two 5's and two 7.5's. I also ordered a spare set of 1.25's separately. (The Walmart set has two 5's and four 10's). This will give me more flexibility in incrementing the weights for different body parts. You can probably buy smaller weight plates to use with the Walmart set locally, but you may only be able to find metal ones. I preferred the coated plates, but that's just my preference.

If you are already lifting heavy, you may not need the flexibility of smaller plates, but I'm not sure where that line would be drawn since I am just beginning myself!

Here's the link to where I ordered it from (it's on the bottom of the page):

RE: Troy Lite or is there anything that compares to it ...

Check this one out. It's an 80 lb set similar to the one Cathe
uses in a few of her workouts. It's 20 bucks and $5.00 shipping!!!
The bar comes in two pieces and taps together but
it's quite excellent! I have the Troy Lite and use both
so I don't have to change the plates for upper and lower.

RE: Troy Lite or is there anything that compares to it ...

Would the clips that Cathe uses for her barbell work for these or would they not fit? I like those clips better and I would just buy those extra.

RE: Troy Lite or is there anything that compares to it ...

Oh cool. Then I think I might pick this one up.
Almost seems too good to be true I dont want it to get away.

RE: Troy Lite or is there anything that compares to it ...

Bobbi.....THANK YOU. Can you tell me how much the bar weighs? When you say that you tap it together....it doesn't budge right?? How long is it?

I hate paying all that shipping for the troy lite, BUT I WANT ONE. I was wondering why some of these big sports stores can't order the troy lite or does anyone know of any that keep these in stock. Generally when you order from a large store they pay the shipping (not always, but many times).

Briee

Edited to add: I just noticed that the bar weighs 4 lbs...didn't see that the first time I looked.

RE: Troy Lite or is there anything that compares to it ...

Hi, Briee, the bar's about 4 pounds and the set comes with 8 pound weights so you can start out at 20. It also has 10 and 20 pound plates. It doesn't budge. Cathe's bar in IS and BB looks identical, including being a two peice bar although I am not absolutely certain about that. I like using it for upper body since I have long arms and I can get a wide grip without having my hands next to the plates as they are with the Troy. Mine's 57" long. I tapped that sucker but good! LOL! I hope I never need to take it apart. :) The Troy is 54", by the way.

RE: Troy Lite or is there anything that compares to it ...

I called the manufacturer of the Troy Lite to ask where I could get one and they told me to go with Fitness1st. I saw one other place online who carried it, but the price (including shipping) was essentially the same.

The manufacturer said that the Troy Lite is designed for health club use and generally sold in bulk to health clubs. It's not available at retail sporting goods stores since it is not classifed as a home use product by the manufacturer. The good news about this is that it is a high quality, durable piece of equipment.

I received mine on Thursday and am very pleased. The weights are thin (about 1 inch)- I was able to pile them up inside of two stacks of two step risers. Since I have limited space, this is a big plus.

Bobbi....I'm getting one. Thanks so very much.

Also June, thanks for calling the company. I'm going to check with some of the lacrosse health clubs and see if I could get one through them...I never thought of this. VERY helpful and now it makes sense as to why I can't find it in any fitness stores in the area.

RE: Troy Lite or is there anything that compares to it ...

Hi everyone :)

Just wanted to add my thanks for all this information. I wonder if this is something Cathe might be able to offer since it is available to health clubs?

Otherwise, I am grateful to fitness1st.com for carrying what sounds like the perfect barbell system for gals like us!

RE: Troy Lite or is there anything that compares to it ...

Hey Bobbi, I just placed my order and then decided, hey why don't I just go for the 100 pound intermediate set for $24.99, you get more weights with it and I can always use these on my other bar bell. Well.....I tried placing the order and ....get this.... shipping would have been $80.70 on top of the $24.99. I'm sticking with the 80 pound set!!! Thanks again. I just can't figure the vast difference in shipping charges!!

Briee! $80.70! Holy guacamole! I guess the 80 pound set is a phenomenal deal. I was pretty amazed by it. Now I'm flabberghasted! LOL! I can't remember who originally posted that deal, but I love her! :) And thank her, wherever she is! I'm glad I could pass the information along!

Hey Bobbi!

What a deal! I am just wondering...it says vinyl plates??? This is not the same as rubber plates, right? I had thought about ordering it just to have EXTRA plates for my Troy Lite. I would love to have 10 #ers, because the Troy came with 7 1/2's. Thanks for your time!

RE: Hey Bobbi!

Hi, Debbie! I would describe them as plastic really. They have a little cap to plug them and keep in whatever it is that weights them contained. (I hope none of my kids get curious about what that is! I'll find it unplugged, useless and messy! LOL!) It's a great value and getting better as time goes by! I don't think you could buy 10 pound plates alone and have them shipped that reasonably! They are very similar to the set used by Cathe and Crew in IS. I like the set very much and use both. I'll set the above mentioned set at 25 or 30 and the Troy heavier for legs. Go for it, Debbie! :D

RE: Hey Bobbi!

Thanks so much! Actually, I picked up a set of 10's at the Goodwill Store one day and I think they are just what you are describing. They are filled and plugged! Hubby & I use them for the exercises Cathe does with the ten pound plate in ME. I love my rubber plates and like my STUFF to match! Sick, I know. I may go ahead and get it just the same. Such a super deal. Not sure how they can mail that much weight for $5.00!?!? Thank you!

Bobbi! Me again!

I don't think it is available anymore unless I am doing something wrong?? Wwaaaah! It figures!
