The "non-diet diet"

Ha - you two do this on the day I START tracking my eats again :D Oh well. I did what you are doing - did it for the summer. My problem is not eating enough but I did fine in the end. Probably too many carbs - well, yes too many. I am not as defined as I was but I also let the weight workouts drop some in favor of just doing what struck me for the day And I am probably the only one who would notice unless I point stuff out. I am the only person I do this for too though, so I am ready to get back to it. It was a great break and now I am actually excited to track my food again and hit the weights hard. Have fun with this. It really is nice to not be all mental about it all, although that part gets some getting over in and of itself!

I think that's a great idea! I don't call what I'm doing a "diet" but rather, a healthy lifestyle. I've been doing this for 3 yrs. and I'm trying to tone up more so I don't think I could take 2 wks off. Good for you ladies who are doing that! I think it would be mentally hard to not try to count everything I'd put in my mouth....even if it's just estimating.

I don't track as far as writing everything down, but I'm really good at knowing what that thing you just put in your mouth adds up to. Right around mid-day I'll mess with my calculator and figure out where I'm lacking nutritionally and how much is left open for the rest of the day.

That's so funny! I could have written meowracer's post. I got tired of all the tracking and took the summer off. It really was liberating, but I just started to track again.

Good luck you guys...I will be very interested in your results!

OK well my plan is a bit different than Debbie's as I've never really kept a food log. I did try after my initial weight gain about 1.5 years ago, but like others it drove me crazy. Too much calculating & work. My intention is to just knock it off w/all the planning. Debbie & I have already talked about how after so many years we don't need to count anything to know what the right food are.

I usually plan my daily meals the night before with a goal towards keeping the whole day around 20-30 carbs. I'm just not doing it anymore. I'm already feeling antsy not knowing what I'll be eating for lunch & dinner, but hopefully I'll get over that.

The key I suppose is my Sunday grocery shopping. As long as I put the right foods in my cart, maybe with a splurge here & there, I'll be OK.

Laura - what on God's green earth do you eat, woman??! 20-30 carbs in a day? Wow - I think I won't even say how many I eat. Seriously, I would crash and burn so fast at just 20-30 and I would be a very unpleasant person on top of it all. I eat good carbs but I need them. I tried cutting back more and I just did not like the way I felt or acted so now I keep mine anywhere b/w 35-40% (about). I can drop it to 25% for short periods of time. Maybe you meant 20-30%?? If not, girl, eat thyself some bread :p

Lauramangano - it was nice to take the break but I am finding that I am really getting into the tracking again. I got to where I hated it but had my goal and was not going to quit! Then when I did quit, I had a hard time letting go. Glad I am not alone in that :D

Mostly protiens & veggies. Honestly, I don't know what my life would be like w/more than, say, 50 carbs a day. I think part of my problem is my metabolism has adjusted to low carb, but low cal doesn't seem to work for me either.

I'm usually in the 150 g. a day with carbs. I know yesterday was bad, I had pasta for dinner and cereal AND a banana for my last meal. This is where I start having problems when I let myself eat what I want. It usually ends up being all carbs.

I'll keep track weekly with the scale. If I see it go up, I'll cut the carbs down a bit.

Are we doing a checkin? I'll start one if it hasn't been started yet. We can just log our foods for the day and how we feel about it, etc. Maybe this will help us be able to do this without much stress.

I have to say, it was wonderful not worrying about calories and such yesterday.

Me too but I aim for between 30-60 carbs. I wish I could do the no measuring thing but what happens is I don't eat enough. So, I measure out my oils to be sure I'm really getting my calories in. I think you guys are brave in a way to try this. I've been counting stuff for almost 15 years (since I was an overweight teen eating low fat which didn't work but that is another story.) Its not so hard for me. I use my scale/measuring cups/spoons and plug it into fitday.
