Students suspended for riding bikes to school

Kenowa Hills schools in Walker MI, near Grand Rapids, suspended 65+ seniors for riding their bikes to school escorted by the Mayor and a patrol car.
To me, the principal did it cause she could not control the event. She claims safety and delays but police differ on it.

LOL, just so you know, I wondered why 65 year old senior citizens were out riding in packs and going to school and causing trouble. Go ahead, picture it.

LOL!! The school dropped the punishment after parents and students showed up to protest riding bikes. Even a board member for the school had his kid ride.

LOL, JT~~ : D

What were they trying to do, just a celebratory end of year hyjinx?
I agree, someone felt powerless and wanted to control. I'm glad I'm not the one trying to keep a herd of seniors (high school or otherwise) in line. ; )

But seriously, thanks for the image. Some of them on trikes, some on Little Rascals...all bearing down on the school for some unknown purpose, grim determination in their eyes...

Actually, they were trying to do something positive whether than the usual pranks that occur during the year. The riding of bikes along with the Mayor and a squad car was a healthy alternative.
It was an overreaction caused by a controlling Principal. She wouldn't been aware of the usual pranks so the senior class didn't notify her of this either. Lots of embarrassment for the school district.

A week or two ago was "Ride Your Bike to Work Day" here. I don't know if it was a city-wide thing, a state-wide event or a National event, but maybe they were riding for something like that.

Wow, that's pretty sad when riding your bike to school is considered a prank! When I was going to high school in the '70s, it was normal to ride your bike to school and there would have been way more than 65 of us!

BTW, I also pictured senior citizens when I read the word "seniors". :)

Today at our high school it was drive your tractor to school day...here is my son and his two friends. They had a blast. (we are only 1.5 miles away from the school, and they had a line of cars behind them)

I live in the San Francisco area and a couple of weeks ago we also had ride your bike to school one day followed by ride you bike to work the next day. It's an annual event here. Our kids got a treat for riding to school. I loved that some of the kids I teach that live to far to ride all the way ( private school) , had their parents drop them and their bikes off a few miles from the school so they could still participate.
