STS first time!

Hey everyone :)

I'm starving and must eat dinner but wanted to post real quick!

Ended up doing Step Moves today after my 8h mtg. Man that was boring. It's hard for me to sit that long. SM was the perfect workout though. Not too hard and pretty low impact.

Alright more later....

Another super quick post before I hit the hay. I printed out my workout card for tomorrow and it's 2 pages! Should I be scared? :) Also I went to TJ Max and found some wrist weights that were 1.5 lbs each. While I was there I remembered that I had bought something similar so when I got home I looked and found them. (They actually also came with a tubular cord that I think I can use as a firewalker loop.) They were 1 lb. each. So I've got options to raise my weights 2, 3 or 5 pounds using both hands, and from 1 to 2.5 lbs on one hand. Nifty. Now I just need a real solution for the pull-ups and chin-ups. Have a pleasant evening everyone!

Meredith- Good find on the wrist weights and tubing. That will really help!

Jean- Glad to hear your mother is home.

Carolyn- How funny you mention High Reps. I did that one this AM. I really like it. It's 65 minutes and a total body workout including abs. Hits all muscle groups :) They are good premixes too that hit either just upper or lower body. I think you should get it.

I am going to wait to preorder too. Waiting for GS Legs to go on DOTD. It's raining here so that gives me a good excuse to hang in the house...not like I ever need one haha! Workout done. Gonna iron Tony's shirts for him. Lunch soon and then work at 3.

My 3rd tri starts today! 7 months! I can hardly believe it. Appt and baby class tomorrow :) Super excited! Thanks again to everyone for sharing their birthing stories. I love any pregnancy or baby talk I can get. I was on Cathe's pregnancy forums for awhile back but nobody posts there anymore.

Have a good day everyone :)

Hey everyone! It's pouring buckets here! I'm so happy! A couple of hrs ago it was 90 degrees and sooo humid you could cut it with a knife! I was dragging! My poor lawn looks like a cornfield color.:(

Jean, that 2 months for your mom went by fast! She is indeed a strong woman. Like mother, like daughter.:) Your sister will truly appreciate your help. And you will need TF for a break and a boost. I just watched What's Your Number dvd. Did you see that? It's funny, has some raunchy humor, but nothing us grown up gals can't handle. And the guy is so good-looking. A bonus: based in Boston!

Meredith, great finds on those in-between weights! Carolyn and I love TJM & Marshalls! Love it! And we love to share finds here.

Marie, congrats on your 3rd trimester! Have fun in your baby class and enjoy your appt. Remember all the details, for your memories! Love your baby bump! (Based on your reminder, I'll have to pull out HR soon.)

I too will check out the DOTD and wait for a great one before I pre-order. I don't know what I need though. Probably nothing!:D

I did Angie Miller's PB Kettlebells today. Colleen, do you know that one? It's a pretty decent workout, but not killer like Paul Katami. She's not as dynamic and charismatic as Cathe, but at least she works both sides evenly. Can you believe that one can't even take that for granted?? How do people put out workouts and overlook that?? Anyway, I still had DOMS from the planks in YM yesterday, and TB on Monday. So when your arm was sore, Carolyn, from throwing that ball, it was worked in a way that it isn't usually. Every time I do something I haven't done in a while, it is like I've never done it. For example, pushups. You would never know I survived Meso 1 pushups!

Have a great day!

Hello ladies!

Another day off where I hardly had any time to post:rolleyes:. I did HC Volume 2 today and I'm still loving it!:D I can actually do the whole workout now without modifying and pausing. :)

Oh lord, I started this post an hour ago and got dragged away to deal with Lydia. Ugh. It's been a rough day with having the kids home:confused:. Granted, Lydia is probably out of sorts because we had her well child check today and she had a few shots (tetanus being one of them). She's had ibuprofen and tylenol earlier in the day but she's is being an absolute monster right now! Early bedtime tonight!!!

Anyway, let's see my workouts...after HC today I felt pretty good so I did a short 20 minute kettlebell workout (RKS #1) which is basically just swings (30 seconds swings, 45 seconds rest). I change it up a little by varying the type of swing (double hand, single arm switch, overhead, suitcase) and during a few of the intervals I even did some snatches. I've looked at that Angie Miller workout lots of times on Collage, actually Betty! I've had it in my wish list on Collage forever but have never pulled the trigger. The reviews are pretty mixed so I've always stayed on the fence. I didn't realize you liked kettlebells, too! Cool! :D

High Reps is a good workout, Carolyn. There's a few things I don't like about it though. I'm not crazy about the use of the barbell in the warm up so I use dumbells instead. In fact, I realized after doing STS that I prefer to just use dumbells for most of my upper body work unless it's deadlifts or back rows. I also avoid upright rows totally anymore since I've read in several places that that is a pretty risky move for the shoulders. Whenever it comes up in a workout I either skip it or do shoulder presses or lateral raises. I don't want to risk a frozen shoulder joint! The other thing is the workout is pretty long (65 minutes). I need to try the lower body only premix...I bet that is pretty awesome. Love the disc work!

Marie- good luck with your appointment and class tomorrow!

Jean- good luck at your sister's! Travel Fit is a great low key workout. It isn't killer at all, but a nice toning/low impact workout. I do sweat some when I do it but I'm not gasping for air or anything. ;) There are times when you absolutely need a workout like that! I always feel good after, too.

Meredith- great score on the 1-2 lb weights. They'll come in handy. Good luck with your workout tomorrow!

Night ladies!

Everyone must have had a busy day. Not much to read, but worked out well since I only have a few minutes before I have to give report to the overnight nurses.

Tonight was INSANE at work. I was on Geri Psych and this group we have right now is super heavy. Extra meds, restraints, seclusion room- TONS of behaviors. We even had extra help and it still didn't matter. Glad it's almost over.

4 days off...YAY!!!!!

I am breezing by again for another quick check-in. I was just going to print my card for tomorrow, but it's funny how you can just get sucked into the forums :) It's been a busy week for me. I did Athletic Step today and the medicine ball abs from Ab Circuits. I had forgotten all about the Ab Circuits disk! I don't think I'd done anything on that disk until today. It was fun to have something new. And it had been so long since I'd done Athletic Step that there was a lot of rewinding. I was also noticing that there are no pre-mixes on that disk. That must be a first! Okay, I said it would be quick. Off to print my card for tomorrow. Hopefully I'll find some real check-in time tonight.

Good Morning ladies! I have been MIA lately. Last night I went home after a crazy busy day at work. Went to get on the internet, and boom....my modem had technical problems. I was on the phone with the phone company for 1 hr and 15 minutes....and then they said I needed a new modem. So, now I am waiting on it to come in the mail. Hopefully it will be here Friday. So, I have no internet connection at home right now. OMG....its like old times. I told me husband and he was like....what are we gonna do????OMG!!! He is a nut!!!!

So, last night I did 4DS Kickbox and 30 minutes on the elliptical.

This morning I ran for 45 minutes as I got up late. Tonight I am doing High Step Training!!!!!

I hope everyone is doing well.

Marie---you look amazing!!!! Just a small amount of time left before you will have you hands full!!! Full of a bundle of joy!!! hehehehe

Carolyn---Have you thought about starting your sister with the LIS. It is low impact and there is always the different premixes to make them shorter in the beginning. Right now, the entire LIS and discs are on ebay starting bid $75. ends in 3 days!!!!

Okay, gotta run...at work and busy as ever! I will check in later before I go home! :)

Carolyn, Supersets is a really good weights one for beginner.

Your poor hubby!

The rain made it even more humid, if that was possible! Bummer you received none! Sun finally came out not too long ago, with refreshing air (that is, when it blows; not much of that so far)

Missy, have you searched ocular migraines?

Last edited:
Betty---I researched them some. I learned that only 20% of people with migranes get ocular migranes. Of course I would be one of them :(

Carolyn- Good for your sister. That is great! For weights I would say High Reps maybe. I love that it's total body and the premixes are around 40 min. Missy- Sorry about your internet. I would die without it haha! I'm so bad! Hi Meredith and Betty :) Did CSS this AM. Now just waiting for my appt. I drank the glucose drink they use to test for gestational diabetes and now I just have to wait an hour. Ok so allow me to complain about this lady in the lobby for a minute. Her child, probably around 16 months or so, is running all over and she isn't saying anything to him. Worst yet he is screaming in a high pitched voice at times and getting into people's stuff. He came over and touched my purse then went and knocked over this lady's car seat and started playing with the toys in it. Thank god the baby was in this mom's arm. He also went over to the water machine and started draining the water from it. FINALLY his mom says something to him. This is like after 10 min. She says come here honey and have a cookie. He runs over and grabs a chocolate cookie from her and eats it then starts racing around again. In the meantime she is sitting there chowing down the rest of the cookies in this bag and not doing anything about his behavior. I don't understand people. I get that kids don't always behave but to not discipline this behavior was insane! Everyone in the lobby looked so annoyed, as was I. Some people! Ok sorry for going on a rant but I have no one to complain to haha! Talk to ya all later.

Jean- Yeah we are super excited. Unfortunately we don't have the key yet. Hoping to pick it up tonight. Our landlord hasn't been too good with returning calls. I have already been reading books on discipline. Like you I not one for rowdy kids. When my parents said no I knew they meant it too. This one is still out of control. Not sure why they are here for the appt so early but everytime the medical assistant come to the lobby to call a name, I and everyone is hoping it's them. Child is now running around with a bag of potato chips whipping magazines off the tables which are now laying on the floor and just. Started playing in the dirt of a potted plant in the corner. Mom is sitting reading a magazine eating another bag of chips. I feel like I'm in a bad dream or some reality tv show where there are hidden cameras waiting for someone to say something to this mom. Unreal!!!

Carolyn---OMG!!! I am so glad they are okay. Thanks goodness!!!!

Marie---I don't have children, well 2 legged anyways....but when I go places and people allow there children to act that away, I say that is why the world is they way it is. I remember when I was little and to this day, when my mother said something I listened because she was not affraid to spank my bottom or ground me or take something away. That is why I am such a wonderful person today!!! hahaha :) Just kidding, but...seriously...a well behaved child always learns respect....something most children today do not know.

Jean---The only reason I have survived is because I am able to chat with you girls at work. If I couldn't I would be in a mess!!!!

Okay, back to work....BBL! :)

Hello! Checking in, off to workout and then I'll be back later to read and reply to posts from last 2 days.

Tuesday was M1D5W2 and I loved it! I can tell I'm already getting stronger and was able to do more pushups and more of the tricep pushups which was encouraging considering it's only week 2! I skipped cardio yesterday b/c I got my menstrual cycle and was a little achy. My triceps were nice and sore which was great, but my back wasn't. Today is legs...dun dun dun...wish me luck b/c I definitely need it!

Ill be back later tonight to chat some more. Enjoy your day and workouts!

Today I did CF the less impact premix. I think I'm going to do the regular workout from now on. Alot of my favorite moves were omitted (firewalker tabata!!!) and I didn't really feel like the impact was that bad when I did it the first time. I thought where there is impact it's pretty easily modifiable to minimal impact with smaller hops. I can NOT decide what to do tomorrow! Remember that little rotation idea I had that I posted awhile back? Well, that sort of hasn't ended up happening the way I planned. I've been just doing what I felt like these past few weeks, especially as I'm trying to get HC in twice a week. Oh well, I still want to get to that in the future!

Anyone else getting the smilie emoticons to work? I try to click on them and they aren't working for me today. It's driving me crazy! I use those suckers all the time! If I remember what symbols to use to type them it works...like a plain old smilie...:). That one I remember! LOL

Carolyn- I'm so sorry about your hubby's toe! Ouch! As for your sister, I agree the dvd that has Supersets and Push/Pull on it is a great weight workout for a beginner. She can just start with the lighter weights and it's super easy to follow those routines and there isn't too many reps compared to some other workouts. Maybe have her check into Kelly Coffey-Meyer, too. I've told you guys before how I haven't clicked with KCM myself (I'm too much of a Cathe junkie!!) but she has a huge following on VF...especially for the beginner to intermediate exerciser. She has the 30 minutes to fitness series which works well for someone starting out since an hour can be too long in the beginning. She has a dvd called "Start Here" which is ideal for beginners, I've heard. Also, Travel Fit! :p Like Jean, said, never underestimate the power of a band! lol

Crap, gotta run. I'll be back for more personals!

My appointment went well. I passed the glucose test...YAY!

My weight decreased a pound from my last appt which was a month ago. I was super concerned but my Dr said she wasn't concerned at all. I told her I workout about an hour a day and then go for a walk during my work break. She said to keep it up which made me really happy :) She did say that by my next appt which is in 2 weeks that I should gain 3 lbs, not by decreasing my activity but by eating more. Cool haha! Gotta love an order to eat more lol!

Baby heartrate was 135 :) LOVE hearing that sound :) Makes me all happy!

Tony and I are off to run errands and then to baby class at 6.

Have a good day everyone!

Whoo hoo Marie for passing the glucose test! That stuff they have you drink for that test is so icky to have to choke down isn't it? Love the doctors order to eat more! lol Awesome! :p

Good luck with legs today Si! You can do it! ;)

Missy- that stinks about your modem! I love having my computer here at work. It' so much harder to get on the computer at home with all the running around I end up doing plus having to fight Mark and the kids for computer time!

Carolyn- that stinks your workout with Burn and Build got interrupted. :( I hate it when that happens! I always feel so off if I have to cut a workout short. Of course, washing those dogs will be a workout in itself!

Jean- I'm so glad you liked TF! I know what you mean about thinking of other people and being so grateful for the health you have. My mom is in such rough shape because she doesn't take care of herself at all. Whenever I think about slacking off or eating something really bad for me she'll often pop in my head as a warning of what could be. :( Keeps me on the straight and narrow, though.

Darn it, gotta go again. lol TTYL

Sorry ladies, some of these replies are super late, so forgive me and let’s see if you can remember what you wrote me, lol. Oh and I apologize b/c now this post is going to be super long!

Anyway, today was STS disc 6 legs!!! It was super hard. The one where you are sitting in the chair and have to get up on one leg and sit back down gracefully I could hardly do. I made some modifications and pushed through the workout and sweat a ton so that was great. And I have to say that it was a little better than last week, so I’ll take it! I loved having my new Slide and Glide Discs and firewalker bands. They rocked for helping me in this workout!

Marie, I hear ya on Food Shopping every other day. Sometimes I prefer this as the food is fresh and less goes to waste, but other times I find when I don’t put a list together I am less organized, and I find that my eating is so much better and I spend less money when I plan it out. I have a lot of meal plans that I reuse and add new recipes as I create them or find them which makes it fun. I can’t believe how proactive you are at working out while you are pregnant! Good for you girl! And band barbell curls do totally Rock! Great idea about using Slide and Glide as a great travel workout. I’m going to take that with me next time I’m out of town. I have Travel Fit too which I really like for the resistance training when on vaca.

Mary, You’re welcome for the nutrition info. You may find that your appetite increases in the morning once you get in the routine of it and your metabolism picks up. Sounds like you have great awareness about needing to eat in the am for steam and fueling your workouts even though you’re not hungry. ☺ Do you think Afterburn and Athletic Training use too many weights that would be too much to do with STS? I want to make sure I give them full recovery between days.

Colleen, glad to hear the bday party was fun! What is HC? I’m going to check out cardio supersets (CSS). Thank you! Do you think the little bit of weights she uses in the program will be too much with STS? I don’t’ want to over train.

Jean, I did what you said with workout manager but it doesn’t seem to change my 1RM. I had to go into the same place that I put my actual weight and click on the calculator and then change my 1RM that way. Not sure why it didn’t work the other way. I put it in for all exercises like you said.

Meredith, Let me know how you like TTM and CF and if you think they complement STS or if they use too many weights. Glad to hear you found foods that work for your tummy and workouts in the am!!! Awesome! Thanks for the tip on the discount. I’m going to do either Atheltic Step or The Shock Cardio Core Circuit video tomorrow. How’s your STS week going? We’ve almost completed week 2!!!

Betty, I really want to get Turbo Barre when I’m done with STS. I used to be a dancer and think I would absolutely love that one! Great idea to try and eat something before your workouts. Let me know how it goes.

Carolyn, thanks for the luck with my leg workout today. It was rough but I pushed through it! ☺

Hello to Missy too. Am I missing anyone? Enjoy your night!
