Push It

Good morning everyone! Well, I made my deadline so the intense pressure is off for a little bit! It felt very strange but good to not have to work during the weekend. Tyler enjoyed it too. Now we have to begin the process of catching up on absolutely everything from school work to cleaning. Tyler's science fair project is due this week, Karate testing is next week, and the week after that we have to get his pinewood derby car finished. There's always a lot to do!

Here are the workouts since my last update:
Thursday night: A 2.5 mile walk. Friday: No workout...I had been fighting a migraine all day. Saturday: 20 minutes on the bike plus the fitness test Cathe posted in the OD forum. Sunday: BS Chest and Shoulders.

Natasha
I'm so sorry you were sick but I am glad you are feeling a little bit better. I hope Mark is able to help you out with Bella soon. It's so hard to be up with a sick child all night when you are sick too. At least the fever is gone -- I hope it stays that way!

Toni
I'm glad you are enjoying Rushfit! They really are great workouts. No too long but extremely effective. At least that was my thought on them!

Jennifer
Thanks for posting about the protein fluff! I can't wait to try some of them. I made the cinnamon rolls that Natasha posted some time. At first I didn't really care for them but they started to grow on me.

HeartyMax
Thanks for the input of Tyler. I might just go with the ADD diagnosis but without meds. I have been thinking long and hard on it and I can't see much disadvantage to it other than it being yet another label on him that may or maybe not be accurate. Although I don't think the special ed really helped him all the much, it did give the teacher a break from him and it seems like maybe she needs that. Poor little guy told me on Friday that he just can't seem to the stop talking and that he is just a "bad kid". I said that wasn't true and he said his teacher thinks he is. It made me really sad to hear that.

Have a great day everyone!

Hello....today was Tabatacised all 5 of 'em  That was a good workout. Much less dread than CF for me. I liked it :)

Stacie
What is Pinewood derby? I saw something like that at the YMCA here, but wasn't sure what it was.

Jennifer
That leg workout sounds KILLER  Hope you enjoy GS UB workouts!! I liked them.

Hi Toni! The pinewood derby is where kids take blocks of wood and cut them into cars and then race them. It's often the boy scouts that are known for this (which is the group we are doing ours for) but it could be other organizations as well. It's a lot of fun but also a bit of work. Tyler had a lot of fun doing it last year and actually won a trophy for his car!

Super quick post...

I might have to put my cat down :(. We took him to the vet yesterday and he might either be dying (worst case) or have hyperthyroidism (best case) which can be easily treated with medicine. The blood tests come back today, and we will make our decision on what route to take. I love that little guy so much :(. My heart is broken.

I read everyone's post. You guys are doing awesome with your workouts.

BB later or tomorrow.

GS came in the mail yesterday so I was able to do it this morning! I must have been super stoked because I woke up really early so could do both DVDs: Chest/Triceps (Supersets premix) and Shoulders/Back/Biceps (timesaver).
Total time was probably an hour+5 because I was able to skip the 1st cooldown/stretch and the 2nd warmup ... But then of course I stretched/foam rolled for almost 10 minutes.
LOVED IT! Love the exercises in these workouts and I definitely love the burn.
FYI, darn the luck (;)) the Chest/Tri's Supersets premix does not have a ton of pushups in it, and definitely they are not in there right off the bat. However, Cathe throws in a few sets AFTER we've already done some chest/tri's so it was still a killer! Honestly I'm glad I didn't miss all of them - and I really didn't know the premix would cut so many out but I'm not too disappointed.

Tasha - I'd say Good Morning but I'm feeling your pain right now especially so soon after losing Ms. Guppie:( Fingers and toes crossed for your cat. Let us know as soon as you hear from the vet.

I hope you get your gloves really soon because it sounds like you need them!

BTW, Whisper's foot is finally doing much better... just last week we finally started letting him take the stairs instead of us having to walk him around the side and to the front. But then just the other day it acted up and was even bleeding a little bit at the nail bed so we walked him around again. So it's great that he's doing better but I guess he still has some healing to do. Thanks for asking:)

Stacie - congrats on making your deadline! What a relief! I was wondering what ever happened with the Karate decision... I guess you stayed at the same place so he can complete his testing; don't blame you there at all.

I remember going to my brother's Pinewood Derby show once - he loved it! I don't think he was in Boy Scouts but it could have been... I know it was some sort of club. We were quite young and I am 2 years younger than he is - I wonder if he even remembers! It seemed like a great experience!

Good luck catching up on everything; mostly I hope you can get caught up on some Relaxation time!

It's awesome that you still made time to do some working out - they were good ones! I didn't do the After Superbowl one that Cathe posted but it's cool that you did - how did you like it?

I hope you get to try the protein fluff - it turned out like soft-serve ice cream instead of the fluff which was great:D I didn't think I had an electric whisk however I remembered that my hand beater does have a whisk attachment (somewhere) so I will try to use it next time to see how *fluffy* it will get.

Toni - Great job on the Tabatas! I agree, there is no dread factor:)

Would you say Gym Style is one of your favorites? I think it's mine now!

Heartmax, hope all is well! I made my reservation for the Fairfield Inn; I figured I didn't need a studio or kitchen since it's just me that's going.

Take care everyone - have a super great day and no migraines (Stacie!)

Good afternoon everyone! Last night I headed over to my neighbor's house to work out and she just wasn't feeling it. She has been having issues with her dog who is sick due to tumors. He isn't going to get any better and it's really wearing her down. It was late anyway since I nearly goofed up about science fair. I thought the project setup time was tomorrow but it turned out to be TODAY which meant that it all had to be completed by last night! We got it done though and it looks pretty good but it shifted everything out about 45 minutes. Hopefully, he will get another medal this year! Tonight for sure will be a workout. If my neighbor bails again, I will just do it on my own.

She did give me some information on how to handle the school and Tyler's issue. Her sister-in-law is a vice principal of a school and used to be a special education head. She was able to provide lots of information to my neighbor and of course she passed it on to me. I am still looking up how to get some of these things accomplished.

Natasha
I am so sorry about your cat. I really hope it's good news that you get about the tests. Lots of hugs to you!

Jennifer
Yes we did stick it out with karate -- at least so far anyway. I mentioned to one of the instructors how much I was working and it may have gotten back to the owner since she has laid off on the comments a bit. Of course, I have been getting him there on time which has helped as well. We saw another instructor at Sam's club and Tyler mentioned that he wanted to quit karate. That might have also caused her to stop scolding us as well to keep our business. He still wants to quit but he is so close to black belt that I think he should just finish. I think he will feel really proud once he gets there.

That's wonderful news about Whisper although it sounds like he still needs some healing! Hopefully a couple of weeks or so will get that toe to stop bleeding on the stairs.

I did Cathe's fitness test -- is that the same one as the post Superbowl workout? It was a good test but I didn't do as well as I had hoped I would. I was super tired though from work and I messed up on the bicep curls because I did a set of hammer curls first but I thought that was what the test was. We are going to repeat them once a month just to see if we are improving our fitness or not.

I still haven't tried the fluff but I really really really want! Hopefully it will happen tonight!

Have a wonderful day everyone!

No workout for me today. When I got up this morning I was still a bit sore in the legs and 'warm' in the upper body. I was supposed to do MMA Kickboxing but when I was previewing it this morning the thought of throwing punches and lifting my leg for a kick was tiring. Figured that was my body telling me I needed a rest, so I took one :) I am feeling much better already. I plan to do HSC tomorrow, which is another reason I wanted to be fully rested.

Stacie
Glad you have some options to deal with the school. Keep up posted on how it goes.

Jennifer
I do like GS upper body, but I don't like to split my UB across two days. But you've given me some ideas on how to put them together :)

Tasha
I hope your kitty will be ok. So sad!!

HeartyMax
Hope things are going well with you :)

Jennifer- congrats on GS rotation. Those dreaded drop set push ups are waiting for you in full force :).

Stacie--glad you got some good advice. Take your time and sort through your plan of action.

Tasha-- sorry your cat is not doing well.

Hi Toni!!

I have gone to bed early for two nights resulting in me waking up in the middle of the night. This interferes with me being able to get up to workout. Things were normal last night so I was up and ready to go with To The Max minus the compounds.

Hi,

I'm looking for a check-in home...can I play here? :)

A little about me...

Before kids, I worked out in a gym daily and loved group classes (step, spinning, kickboxing). My hubby managed the gym so it was double incentive because I got to see him too. After having my son, the gym went to the wayside plus hubby was no longer there. I had a recumbent bike at home and tried other videos but nothing really excited me until I found Cathe in Oct 2012. I remembered how much I loved classes...and step! I would consider myself between a beginner - intermediate exerciser (my brain knows what to do it's my body that's lagging behind). I'm hoping to get back to the intermediate - advanced level I was before kids.

I don't have a lot of space to workout in but I've been able to vary most things to work. The friend that turned me on to Cathe also gave me a little tiny step which fits into my space. Yay! When I have more space I would love love love to buy a spin bike.

I've bought an obscene number of videos in the last few months including XTrain, STS, LIS, Shock Cardio and Hardcore. I just can't resist those bundles!

Anyway...sorry long story. Yesterday I was still working from home due to the crazy blizzard that left 3 ft of snow in CT so I had a bit more time to work out. I did KPC (intermediate + combo 1 and 2) and High Reps (upper body). KPC really helped to knock the kinks out of me from shoveling all weekend.

Today will be All Out HiiT for the first time. Wish me luck!

Welcome To Much Joy!! We are a friendly bunch and a small group so it makes it easy to keep up with what's going on with everyone. Our check in originally started because we wanted to increase our number of pushups. We still do a few but just enjoying various rotations and sharing our fitness goals.

I am married and mother of two boys 14 and 10. Been doing Cathe since 2002 and did Firm before then. Glad you discovered Cathe!!

Jennifer-- I forgot to say that I booked at Fairfield Inn too so I am all set---- then again, I haven't booked my train ride yet. I have looked online but need to figure out a good departure time for Sunday. Are you flying??

Good Ash Wednesday morning to you all,
This morning I did the step portion of Intensity followed up by a touch of Butts and Guts... deadlifts and floor exercises.

I have some DOMS in my UB from yesterday's GS and I believe that it will get stronger as the day goes on:D That tells me how I will feel when I do each one in it's entirety:eek:

Welcome, toomuchjoy!
Congrats on surviving the blizzard; my mom's in Boston so she's dealing with a couple feet herself. Sounds like you didn't lose your electricity and luckily my mom didn't, either.

KPC with combos and HR upper body sounds like an awesome combination! I'm glad it helped with those kinks. Shoveling is hard! My mom has a very small shovel - she says it keeps the weight of the snow down and it's easier for her to handle.

I hope you love ALL OUT; let us know how it went. I love it and have done it several times; the Extreme Cardio premix is under an hour, and I used 3 risers (I almost always use 1 more than Cathe since my legs are long)... You want some DOMS in your rear end? That will do it!

It's awesome that you have so many Bundles; you'll get back into tip-top shape -- and maybe even more so -- really soon!

I found Cathe in 2007 when I was looking on-line for Step videos... it just progressed from there and I have just about all of her DVDs! I still attend a gym but that's mostly just to see my gym friends and get me out for something to do; the classes offered are not anything like the intensity (or variety for that matter) I get with Cathe's workouts.

I'm married to my wonderful husband Craig and we are celebrating 4 years on the 18th; no kids but we have 3 dogs (greyhounds) and one of them is quite the handful (Whisper)! I work at a publishing company and June 20th I'll have been here 19-years.

This forum is great and I love this check-in. In Fact, yesterday while doing Gym Style I was ready to be done but I kept going anyway: #1) First and foremost I knew I'd be checking in! #2) the workout wasn't over and #3) I wanted the satisfaction of knowing I pushed through it and worked for it:D Ladies, I meant to note that yesterday when I checked in -- thank you for motivating me!

Heartymax,
To The Max is a great workout even without the compound exercises; I hope your schedule stays back on track.

I'm glad we'll be staying at the same hotel:D I have to fly but haven't booked my flight yet... I'm hoping to arrive by 3 on Friday.

Thanks for gearing me up for the massive pushups in GS:D

Toni,
I'm with you - I don't like splitting up my upper body workouts. Maybe the 2 premixes will work for you, too:)

Glad you enjoyed your rest day and are going to hit it hard again tomorrow. Which RushFit will you do? I don't have RushFit but I know from Stacie that there are a lot in the set.

Stacie,
Congrats to you and Tyler for finishing his science project - I hope he wins another medal! Are science and math is his favorite classes? It's great that your neighbor and her sister were able to give you so much help. Keep us posted! BTW, I am very sorry to hear about her dog:(

I agree that Tyler should at least finish the testing for his Black Belt; I hope you can convince him to stick with it for just a while longer.

I'm not sure if the Fitness Test is the same as the Post-Superbowl test but either way anything Cathe *prescribes* is going to be tough. That is a bummer about the hammer curls but as you said you can re-do it. It's great that you did so well, but I know none of us are surprised!

Tash,
Fingers and Toes are crossed that everything is going okay!

I best get back to it - Have a wonderful day!

Hi everyone,

Well, we got good news and bad news from the vet. Good news is that the blood work came back ok. We are treating him with Hyperthyroid medicine and should start to see an improvement within 1 week. He has to be on this medicine for the rest of his life. The vet gave us some pills to start out with until their order of gel comes in (you put it on the hairless area in the ear). This is easier than giving pills to a cat. Mark is working today, so Bella and I are going to walk over and get the gel. It will be about 3 miles, so that will be some nice exercise. Bad news is that he could still have kidney failure, in which the medicine won't work and he will get progressively worse. The thing is he is 15yrs old now. He might live for a few more years, but realistically he is sick and old. I'm not sure if he will be able to bounce back from this. It pains me to see him suffer. He is such a sweet boy too :(. He has never hissed at anyone (not even Bella when she was a bit rough). He is super affectionate and very loving. Unlike my girl cat .

Yesterday I decided to do Low Max. All 70min on an 8inch step. I felt good, just a little tired. I wanted too quit a few times, but the music kept me going.

Welcome Too Much Joy :). This check-in rocks! My name is Natasha and I live near Toronto, Canada. I am a SAHM to my daughter (4yrs old). I found Cathe May 2011 and never looked back.

BBL for personals. Have a good day ladies :)

Good morning everyone! Has it been getting cold in your areas? It's been very frigid here lately. I heard from my neighbor that we are supposed to get more snow this week. Last night we did a little over half of Supercuts. She was still super tired and I was too. I have a feeling this is going to be not such a great workout week but it's ok, we haven't take a full rest week yet.

Toni
HSC is hard! I don't know what it is about the high step but it feels like a torture device sometimes!

Toomuchjoy
Welcome to our group! KPC + HR sounds like an awesome workout! I haven't done KPC in forever because I bought it off of ebay it skips pretty badly. Only newer DVD players have enough error correction built it for it to play correctly :(.

As for me, I am a single mom of very sweet but hyper boy. I work full time as a software engineer and I found Cathe in 2011. Throughout my adult life, I have exercised on and off but never really stuck with a exercise regiment until I found Cathe. Unlike many exercisers, I started working out not to lose weight and get in to better shape (those were just added bonuses) but more to be able to sleep at night. Luckily, the sleep problems have mostly gone away and I am still trucking along with my Cathe DVDs!

Jennifer
Tyler really likes math -- I'm not so sure about science. They have an after school program that is all about science and I have thought about enrolling him in it many times but he loves to go to the daycare after school and play with his friends.

Happy early anniversary in case I forget to tell you on the 18th!

HeartyMax
I hate when the middle of the night wake ups occur! At least you were able to get in TTM this morning. Hopefully the rest of week will be better sleep wise.

Natasha
I'm sorry about the bad news about the cat. Hopefully the medication will help and that the kidneys are not as bad as the vet thinks they are. I feel really bad for you! My neighbor is in a similar boat with her dog and having lost my beloved pet a couple of years ago I know how difficult this can be. :(

I love the music in Low Max! Cathe put in the right songs at just the right time to motivate you to keep going!

Happy Hump Day everyone!

Thanks for all the welcomes!

I guess I missed a bit of intro. I'm married for 13 years (together for 20 years this summer!) and we have a 7yo son. I'm a scientist in CT at a local biotech company.

As planned I did All Out this morning for the first time. I had planned to do the floor + step section but forgot I had an early meeting planned so only could do the floor section. I really liked it! It definitely flew by and was really nice not to repeat new moves.

Do I get a day or two to catch up on people before personals? heehee!

Jennifer
I forgot to mention that I downloaded the GS UB too. I'm glad you got a nice bout of DOMS from them :).
I'm glad Whisper is doing better despite the little bit of bleeding.
Great workout yesterday . I have not done Intensity in awhile. You have inspired me to do it when I feel 100%.

Stacie

Sorry to hear about your neighbors dog :(. And I am also sorry about you having lost a pet yourself.
It has been very warm these past few days. It won't last long though :(.
I'm glad to see you got some very helpful info with regards to Tyler.

Toni

Did you end up getting the Disney tickets? When is the play?

Heartymax
Do you and DH do anything special for Valentines Day?

Too Much Joy
I really like All Out, especially because there are no repetitive moves.

I just found out that JM was in Toronto doing a group fitness class at Good Life and I missed it :(. I would love to meet her one day :).

No special plans for V-day. We don't like the overcrowded restaurants. Had my cousin who is a caterer make us some truffles so we will enjoy those tonight.

40 minutes on the elliptical. Gotta run. Check back in later.

Happy Valentines Day everyone!

We also don't celebrate the holiday much. I usually get hubby (S) some truffles but I haven't been able to get out to a store due to the snow. He's a super saver so I would bet he would love the chocolates better even this weekend when they're on sale!

I'm pressed for time again today. On the schedule is Athletic Training (Express). I am so surprised how sore my butt is today...I'm chalking it up to AOLI. I can't imagine if I'd done more of it yesterday. Will definitely have to do that one again. I have the tendency to gravitate to my faves (LowMax and KPC) again and again when I have virgin workouts just waiting to be tried.

Have a great day everyone!!!

Happy Valentines day everyone! Another no-biggie here but it's nice to have another reason to celebrate:) We did cards but aren't going out for dinner.

I did the entire Hard Strikes this morning instead of my usual cardio-section (chapter 1) and tabatas. Well, you know me and sit-ups... I don't do them. So the last few exercises I skipped. Anyway, the rest of the weight conditioning felt great:) I really should have added on the Rear Delt 100RC (it seems to fit very well there) but I was short on time; sounds like a plan for tomorrow.

Tash,
That medicine can't be cheap so I'm sorry, but I am glad it's treatable! Hopefully he'll be feeling better in no time:)

Congratulations on your GS purchase! I think the Hard Strikes this morning really helped with my GS DOMS but now I have a feeling my lats are going to get it:D

You rocked Low Max, woman! 70 min! Geesh! I'm sure you were wiped out after that, especially since you're just coming back from a sick leave so to speak. I wonder if you'll get some nice DOMS! Good job sticking with it even though you wanted to stop. Music can be so motivating! I love the music in that one.

Too Much Joy,
That's funny about your husband appreciating the lower price more than the truffles:D

Enjoy your DOMS and AT:D

Stacie,
Thanks for the Anniversary wish! Craig and I are both off work for President's Day:cool:

We've actually had very warm weather the last couple days but we are getting a cold front and snow later... so we must be getting the cold front from you. It's Chili weather again!

I hope you and your neighbor get some rest. Maybe try some Yoga? I forget if you like Yoga or not... I like to stretch but I still struggle to get into Yoga.

I think it's cool that Tyler likes Math. He might be ready for the after school program one of these days:)

Heartymax,
I agree - restaurants are so crowded for Valentine's day. Craig and I have already agreed to have left-overs:D

Toni,
Hope all is well!

Remember the server switch tonight around 8 Eastern time. Gotta get - have a deadline. Have a great day!

Hello everyone!! Happy V-Day!! We aren't big in the holiday either. We are going to dinner this weekend, but that's mostly because we haven't been able to do anything together in a while. We would have likely went this weekend no matter what :)

Yesterday was HSC, sort of. My lower back was still really fatigued from RF and Tabatacised, so I only did the upper body portions and no jumping. Today I did MMA Kickboxing and took all the impact out of the few drills there were. Tomorrow will be SuperCuts I think because it's low impact. We'll see how I feel in the morning.

I was looking at the calendar and since we aren't going to London this year it looks like I could take myself on a hiking trip. I went in 2009 to Lake Tahoe and it was FABULOUS. I go with a company that does guided hikes for 5 days. The food and lodging is all included. Since I'm going by myself a guided hike is the safest thing. And there are many people that travel solo so you don't feel out of place. I'm thinking of going to Oregon this time. Here is a link:

Oregon The Columbia River Gorge and Mount Hood guided hiking tours

They are a bit pricey but so worth the money and convenient!!

Tasha
Glad to hear your cat won't need to be put down, but so that he will have to be on meds from now on. It does sound like the ear meds will be much easier than pills for cats though.

The play is this summer. Tickets will go on sale March 15th, so I will get them then.

Jennifer
I was previewing GS the other day. I forgot how tough those were. I think I'm may do something like doing a split body every other week so I can do them but not have to do split body all the time. We will see :)

HeartyMax
Will your family be going to the RT with you or did you decide to go solo?

Stacie
I had my meeting for my son's IEP three year review this morning, which made me think of you. They renewed his IEP. He's doing well but he still is behind in reading and math and his attention issues make his learning difficult, so he still qualifies. I hope things are going well with you and Tyler.

TooMuchJoy
WELCOME!! Good to add another to the group :) My name is Toni. I am married(second marriage) going on 4 years now. I have 2 kids(Brandon 12, Jasmine 10). My husband has four kids, two of which live with us(Chelsea 16, Daylan 14). We also have granddaughter(almost 4 months) living with us, so we have a full house!! I'll be 41 in April. When I turned 39 I noticed that I was no long happy with my body image and decided to do something about it. I started with P90X and then Insanity. After that I found Cathe and have not looked back since. I particularly like her low impact options. My knees are not what they used to be :) Hope you enjoy the group. We have fun here!!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!!! I hope you all had a wonderful day!

Last night was supposed to be Basic Step but my neighbor tired out very quickly and we wound up stopping early again. I admit that I am super tired too. If this trend continues, I may need to give her a rest week just to recharge her. She is happy to do weights but she's not loving the cardio right now. I wish we would do other step workouts but until she can get through Basic Step, I don't think that's going to happen. Soon I am going to get my Basic Step set back from my mom since she's not using it anyway. That one has Low Impact Step on it so maybe it will provide the change my neighbor needs.

By the way, we score another medal on science fair! Tyler did awesome on the oral part. The comments said that he knew the scientific method the best out of everyone the judge talked too. We would have gotten 5 points higher if I had caught that his name and grade were supposed to be on the front on the board. Reviewing the judging sheet before setting up the project is definitely a lesson learned for next year! Now we just have get his karate form down for testing next week and finish his pinewood derby car.

By the way, I made these delicious Oatmeal Carrot cookies last night. They don't have much protein in them but they are vegan and very tasty! I would post the recipe in the recipe forum but it's from a book Tyler checked out from the library and I think the recipe has the same copyright restrictions as the book. Here's a link to it on Google books:
Bulldog's Big Day - Kate McMullan, Pascal Lemaître - Google Books

Toni
Were you happy with the IEP meeting? It's always bittersweet when they come up because it's nice that the kids are getting help but it's frustrating to hear that your child is behind. Does Brandon like going to the special ed area? Tyler used to like it because they would spoil him and give him extra treats.

The hiking trips sounds wonderful! I hope you get to go!

Jennifer
I don't think my neighbor will do yoga. She really hates floor work and she isn't able to get up and down quickly due to her size. I do know that I need to get back into doing my short workouts in the morning. I feel like my cardio endurance is starting to drop.

TooMuchJoy
I can totally relate about gravitating to the favorites! I have a bunch of workouts that I have only done once or twice because I didn't find them as fun as some of the other ones I have. Do you have 4DS? I absolutely love the lower intensity step workout in that one. I have done it so much more than some of the other steps workouts it's crazy. The only exception might be basic step now since I have been doing it every week for 2 months now because of my neighbor.

HeartyMax
Oooohhh....truffles! Total yum! We made them once at a cooking class that was sponsored by my work as a team building exercises. They were soooo tasty! I hope you enjoy every bite!

Natasha
How is the cat doing? Is he feeling any relief now that he is on the meds?

Have a great evening everyone!
