Push It

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I appreciate it! Today was step blast. Almost got through all of it. I have got to get my eating back on track. I just didn't have the energy to finish the last blast, which I have completed before. Eating is slowly coming back together now that vacations are over, so it will all come together soon. I think I'm going to do Muscle Endurance tomorrow. I need to make sure I do one weighted workout this week. I think I read somewhere that at least one weighted workout a week will maintain your strength for a period until you can get back to normal. So I'll do one this week and two next week to keep what I have. I think that I've decided that I will go ahead and start STS in August. I want to finish it before the baby gets here. While I have NO intentions on getting up in the night with the baby(hehe), there will certainly be times that my schedule gets thrown off. I don't want to be in the middle of a formal rotation like STS with that much change going on in the house.

My mother is out of the hospital. Very happy about that. But I will be having a serious talk with her this weekend. She should not be smoking with her condition and before this last attack she was still smoking(grrrrrr). My mother is very big on people taking care of her, but I just cannot see how you can ask someone to take care of you when you have not done everything in your power to take care of yourself. This is totally contrary to how she raised me, so this lecture she has coming is totally her fault..LOL!

Natty - thanks for your story. I hope I didn't put my step daughter in a bad light when I said that she wasn't a mature teenager. That was not my intent. She will certainly be ok with time and support. Her biggest weakness is that she lacks any real type of forward thinking in terms of goal setting or life planning, which was ok until now. Her father had already told her that he would not send her away to college until she was a bit more mature and she understood and was fine with that. She even she knows that she lacks in that area. Now she doesn't have much of a choice but to learn those skills at a faster rate. But we will help her through that and she will be fine. I worry most about her schooling. She is not the most disciplined student and she will need to take online schooling this year, so that will be very different for her.

I always find people's reaction to teen pregnancy interesting. Yesterday someone asked me if she had to move out. They said they didn't know what the 'rules' were in our house about this type of thing. My first thought was move out and go WHERE?? She's 16 has no education and no marketable skill set. I'm not understanding what rule I would have that would require me to put my own child out of my house because she was pregnant. I guess I've heard it being done, but I don't understand it.

Jennifer - I have no idea what is up with this hip and back of mine...LOL! I do think it has to do with some extra stiffness. I did a bit of extra warmup and stretching this morning and that seemed to help. And I also pulled out the foam roller...thanks!

Toni------You almost need to come peel me off the celing at my house after reading your post stating someone asked if your daughter had to move out. I am steaming and she is not my daughter. How dare someone ask you that. First of all, it is not their business. I hope you reminded them that you love your daughter unconditionally. She is fortunate to have love and support at home and parents who will help her stay on track so that she can extend her education and become independent. I can't believe someone can say something so insensitive and pretend it is normal. Some folks just have no social skills  SMH. Enough of my venting.

I was planning to do push ups this morning and totally forgot once I got downstairs and went right into my workout. I am just too doggone tired to do push ups after my workout. Today was Cardio Supersets with the bonus step routine for an exhausting 60 minute workout.

Good morning everyone! Last night was STS Meso #1 week 4 legs. I only got through half of it before I stopped. I am finding that STS legs with the dog jogs really bother my knees. I still try to do at least part of them since they work the thighs nicely but the dog jogs have helped slimmed my legs too. Tonight will hopefully be a 2.5 miles dog jog as well as Meso #1 Chest & Biceps.

So I was bad and bought Rushfit which is an MMA style program. I read a little bit about in the forums here and then researched it. I like how a lot of it is low impact and really works the core which is a problem area for me. Another nice thing is it has Cardio only days where you do whatever cardio you want. This way I can do the program and still do my Cathe workouts. I was able to get it 15% off, free shipping, and on 3 month payments so it was a good deal!

Did anyone else catch in the forum that Cathe is doing a redesign of the Turbo Tower? I was thinking about getting a squat rack but I am going to wait now in case the revamped tower will have that capability. I really really really hope she does include that. That would be super nice! Cathe seems like quite the busy lady lately!

Natty
I am sorry to hear that you are having some back problems. I know I had some of that in Meso #3 as well. I wish you were closer -- I would let you borrow my stability ball streching DVD. It really is amazing.

I found pushups to be really hard to do while doing Meso #2 and #3. STS is so intense that I would suggest no doing them until a few days after the Chest workouts. JMO!

Btw, Butts and Guts is my favorite lower body Cathe workout. It actually the only one (other than the squat rack discs) that I really like. I am finding that I really dislike lower body work but I force myself to do them anyway so that if I ever meet Robert he won't think I have thunder thighs! ;)

Toni
No wonder you haven't been on much! Talk about stress...how are you doing? I am sorry to hear about your mom but it's great news that she is out of the hospital. I know exactly how you feel about the smoking. I have a cousin in California that needs breathing treatments and sometimes right after will have a cigarette. It always blows my mind when she does that!

I think Natty is right that no teenager is really mature enough to have a baby. Heck, I didn't feel ready at 26 when I had my little boy. However, she is very lucky to have such a great support system from you and your husband. Personally, I would let her feel kinda carefree right now since in a few short months that time will be gone forever. She has definitely taken the rough road. I saw my sister go through the same thing when she had my nephew and she was 19. She had to quit college and move back home. Unfortunately, though she tried to go back and finish her degree, she never did. Hang in there and if you need to talk or vent we are all here!

HeartyMax
Great avatar! You look terrific and so happy! Was that picture taken on vacation?

I hope you are feeling better from your dental work. Sometimes when I am at the dentist have these thoughts that I must be out of my mind to actually be paying people to torture me! :D

I don't blame you for waiting to preorder. I am probably going to wait at least a month as well since I am still catching up from the massive amount of car repairs I have had the past couple of months.

Jennifer
I probably missed it in an earlier post but are you on vacation? If so, I am totally jealous! I have never done a "staycation" but they sound wonderful! How nice it must be to have some free time to do what YOU want to do. I hope you are enjoying it!

Have a wonderful day everyone!

Hello ladies :)

I had a post typed out this morning, and of course it all got erased by the click of a backspace button . That really peeves me off .

Ok, to sum up my post, I can't continue with M3. Don't feel bad, it's ok, life goes on. The heavy weights I'm dealing with wreak havoc on my back, and I just can't get injured and erase all my hard work. Better to play it safe. My plan for the next 3 weeks is a laxed rotation including 3 days weights/2 days cardio. I'll probably throw in some M1 & 2 in there, including plyo legs. Yesterday I did a goodie fusion of High Reps UB premix + STS TB compound back premix + chest/shoulder's/tri's compound premix. Total time of 50min. It was great. My back is good today :).

Toni
OMG, I hope you did not think I was taking down about your step-daughter. If it came across that way, I'm truly sorry. I would never judge anyone for their life choices, heck I'm no saint either. I see my 16 year old sister, and to me she is so young still, tweeting One Direction. I just didn't want you to think that there are teens out there who are better mentally prepared for pregnancy that's all. I moved out at 18, and it was the hardest thing in the world. I really didn't have emotional support and no financial support. The odds were stacked against me, and I think family/friends wanted to see me fail to some degree. Anyway, you are absolutely doing the right thing. Your step-daughter is very lucky to have a strong support system in you.

Stacie
Enabler's strike again on the Cathe forums ;). Let me know how you like them, they sound pretty cool.
Oh you lucky duck! If they redesign the TT to be used a squat rack, I'm going to be super jealous!
Thanks for the tip on B&G. I think I will get it since my thighs will always be a little "thunderish" ;) :D. I've made peace with my Kim Kardashian butt though ;).
I hope the "guys" are in the new Xtrain workouts :p

Heartymax
Thanks for the compliments :).
I've only done CSS + bonus step once and I think I almost fainted. Tough stuff
How is your tooth BTW?

Jennifer
Thank you for the compliments, you are too sweet :).
Triple Tabata premix is not that bad. It's only 30min of torture :D. You can do it, I know you can.
I love your fur babies! Animals are such joy and bring so much happiness. If I had a farm, or big property with lots of land, I think I would be stocked up with cats, dogs, horses, bunnies, birds, whatever!

Have a great day everyone :)

Natty - totally did not think you were being judgmental in any way. I've never heard you say anything judgmental about anyone or anything :). I think I'm just super sensitive about making sure I don't sound negative because she is my step daughter and not my birth daughter. Step parenting is a bit tricky in my household...LOL! Well it's tricky in all households, but my step kids from my previous marriage were a lot easier. This wouldn't have been something I would have worried about with them. They just don't think the same way as my step kids from my second marriage. But it's been just over two years with these kids in the house and things are TOTALLY better now that some time has passed.

Good afternoon!
This morning I started with some cardio Slide and Glide, then followed with Total Body Trisets Lower body split; LOVED it! The exercises were bun burners that's for sure:) Total workout time was about an hour so it was perfect.

I am very sure that my entire lower body will be in some serious DOMS tomorrow or the day after (sometimes it seems to stall)!
I'll look forward to it just for you gals since I know how much you love that DOMS:) If it doesn't end up being too terrible then I'll be glad just for me:D

I am not on vacation (unfortunately) however I did take off today.
When I mentioned having Downtime I only meant that there wasn't anything going on at work. I work at a publishing company so I'm either REALLY busy or REALLY bored; sometimes it's just the right pace.

I told my boss I was looking for some projects but nothing has came back to me so I went ahead and took off today (and got a LOT done around the homestead:))

Toni, Step Blast is one tough cookie so good job for getting that far in the first place! I'm glad the extra warmup, stretching, and foam roller seems to have helped your hips and hopefully your back :)

I'm also glad your mother is out of the hospital, and I hope she will be able to quit smoking. I used to smoke but I was finally able to kick the habit - in fact it was right about when I started getting serious about working out (2007-2008) that I finally quit those nasty things with the help of acupuncture; I had to get it done a second time that same week but that did the trick, and mind over matter of course.

Honestly, my dad told me that I could always come back home as long as I wasn't pregnant; that was back in my 20's before I moved out. I just thought I'd mention that you're right, some people just don't know how to handle a situation like that so punishment seems to be the way to go. You are absolutely right - your step daughter needs you and thank God you are there for her.

Stacie, sorry to hear about your knees. Rushfit sounds really cool; let us all know how you like it! The low impact and cardio only does sound good. I'm glad you found a way to keep your workouts the way you like them - plentiful and painless:)

I didn't hear about the TT redesign until Natty commented on your post; you're right, Cathe has been super busy lately! I hope she can relax for her birthday on Friday.

Heartymax, I'm a morning exerciser, also, and when I do have a day off I do the same thing you do -- don't sleep too late and still exercise in the morning just not right away. Maybe have a 2nd cup of coffee sometimes:)

That quote "I work out in the morning before my brain figures out what I'm doing" is hilarious IMO.

I laughed out loud when you said you forgot to do your pushups! LOL! I also have done that before! Maybe it was too early for your brain :)

Natty, thank you:) I agree, if I had a large property I would have tons of animals - but I guess we'd also have to be rich so we could buy their food. Sigh.

I'm glad your back is feeling better, and I gotta say that you are super creative with your premixes! You have a great attitude regarding the discontinuation of M3 (and everything else I might add), but still I know it has to be disappointing.
Enjoy the hell out of M1, M2 and plyo legs!

If I try the triple tabata premix I will let you know. It is good to know that it's only 30 minutes so that does help. A little bit;)

I best get for now. Have a great day!

Today was M2 Disc 18 Back and Biceps. I was pleased that I could lift the same weights that I lifted the last time I did M2. Those back off sets are no joke. The muscles just burn. Concentration curls are just not my favorite but I made my self do them. Tomorrow is supposed to be Low Impact Challenge or Cycle Max. As you know, I have a hard time with that routine in LIC. I like the premixes but they are only 30 minutes. I guess I could do two of the premixes. Anyway, I think I will plan to use the elliptical tomorrow and maybe some of the premixes later. I did planks after my workout.

Jennifer----I remember to do my push ups before my workout today.:D In spite of what the recommendation is, I am starting with level 1. This will give me a chance to work myself back at a pace I am more comfortable with. This program requires you to do 5 sets of push ups and I am not ready to do 5 sets ranging from 20 to 25 push ups each in the next week. So---- today was 10,12,7,7, and 15.
Stacie--I just saw the post about the comparison of Insanity/P90/Rush fit on the forum today. I looked at the website too just for general reading. I am glad that you are able to incorporate your own cardio. I would not want to go without doing Cathe for a long period of time.

Natty- I am doing much better since the gum procedure. I just dread having it. I am paying the price for not taking care of some things many years ago.

Hello ladies :)

Today I went for a lovely 1 hour walk to our local McDonald's so Bella could have her weekly treat and play at the PlayPlace. And of course, I got a little treat for myself too ;). The hot weather has subsided for now, and is actually very enjoyable. We've been over 100F for the longest time

Tonight's w/o is plyo-legs :D.

Ohhh, I'm very excited my Leslie DVD and new Cathe 6ft bands came in the mail today! All my bands were 5ft, and I really wanted (needed?) the extra foot ;)

Jennifer
I love your combo of S&G + TBT LB! How is your booty today? I'm thinking a nice bout of DOMS :D.

Heartymax

You know, I have the same dislike for concentration curls. Perhaps that's because my lower back feels achy during them. For me, nothing beats barbell bicep curls

Toni
I hope you are doing well today :)

Have a great day :)

So, what IS it about concentration curls?! I haven't done them in over a year (I had a bad experience with them) so good for you hot mommas to challenge yourself to them!

My issue is when I was leaning over a stability ball and was concentrating on my curls when I felt a snap in my oblique or somehwere around there. I have not touched them since although I do like the DB curls. It took months for me to be able to do knee-ins without any oblique pain after that incident, fyi.

No workout or walk with the dogs this morning before work; didn't sleep too well last night because the girls were afraid of the thunder (storm) and insisted on being in bed and practically on top of me; I finally gave up and moved to the couch where the cat joined me.

Natty, Glad you didn't lose your post today:) I forgot to comment on that before but that is really frustrating.

Yep - almost major DOMS in my thighs and buns from the S&G and LB split TriSets. I think tomorrow it will be 100% major DOMS especially from inactivity today. I see a foam roller in my near future!

Sounds like a really nice treat for you and Bella, and what a relief to have cooled off a bit; I hope it keeps up!

Congrats on your new Leslie DVD (is it a step one by any chance?), and that's funny about the new 6ft bands instead of the 5ft bands. I know you'll use them well:)

I also hope the guys are in the Xtrain DVDs:D

Heartymax, starting at phase 1 is a good idea since you've been away from the pushups for a while. Your numbers are still awesome, though! I'm anxious to read more about the program because you have motivated me to start the challenge (how often per week, rest time between sets, etc). I will mark my calendar for Monday the 23rd!

Stacie and Toni, hope all is well!

Have an awesome day!

Jennifer- pushups are 3 days per week. You complete 5 sets at different reps and the 5th one is to exhaustion. You have 60 second rest between sets on day 1, 90 seconds on day 2 and 120 on day 3. This program has made a huge difference for me.

Hey all. Yesterday was Muscle Endurance. Holy moly. I totally was not mentally prepared for that...LOL! I think I had gotten used to a slower paced weight workout...ha! I got through most of it but boy was my body tired! I'll be doing that one again next week and this time I'll be better prepared for the pace.

My weight is back down to 142 and oddly enough it feels a bit 'skinny'...ha! I was totally not expecting that reaction from myself. I think it's because I really like the way my husband looked at mean when I was a couple pounds heavier :). Not that he's not still looking, I'm not sure he's noticed the difference yet. I am going to keep the weight off though. I can't stand cellulite and it seems once I get above about the 140-142 mark the wrinkles start to really show....yuck!

Jennifer - I think I've only done Total Body Trisets once, and I remember that leg routine. It's a good one for sure.

Heartymax - good job on the pushups. I'm impressed! Puships are still my weakness. Maybe one day I'll spend the time to really commit to doing them well.

I'm off to do Rhythmic Step. I'm so glad my workout routine is getting back on track. I got five days in this week. I'll be going back to six days next week. Feels good :)

There will be no workout for me today. I am having the carpet cleaned today. It was on the list of things to do while I am home for a few weeks during the summer. So I have been doing some cleaning, dusting, vacuuming, removing spider webs etc. the last few days. I am determined to feel like I have a clean house for a short time. I have also gathered things to donate to salvation army and I hope to make that delivery today or no later than Monday.

I will put in some time on the elliptical tomorrow.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Good morning everyone! No workouts to report here. We caught a bug from my sitter's family and we pretty much have been sleeping alot. My son actually threw up a couple times on Wednesday but seemed to be a lot better yesterday. He just seems really tired. My throat has been killing me in the morning which is one of the symptoms...hopefully I won't get the stomach problems like he had.

We had a terrible event happen in this city. Someone for some reason walked into a movie theater and shot a bunch of people. It was at the midnight premiere of the new Batman movie and there were children there as well. I don't really know what causes people to snap and do the horrific things they do. It really is mind boggling...

Stacie---didn't remember you were from that area. My eyes have been glued to the tv all day. What a tragedy. My heart goes out to the families and community.

I live in a different suburb of Denver that is about 20 minutes away from the theater. I actually used to work about 10 minutes away from the area and used to drive through it all the time on my way to work when I lived downtown. Thank goodness my cousin moved a month ago. She used to live right by there and they went to that theater all the time. Very very scary to see something like that happen in an area you know very well. I feel for all the victims -- especially the children.

Hi peeps, To The Max for me today (no triple tabata - yet); I planned to do Intensity but decided that since I was going to do step and haven't done upper body in a while I would go for TTM. So glad I did; it felt great (gasp).

Stacie, when I heard on the news what happened I thought of you and wondered how close you are to the theater. I am so sorry it happened at all but man - that is so close to home! It is horrifying and shocking; your entire town must be walking like zombies.

Please take care, and feel better soon.

Heartymax, I printed out my PU schedule - Woo hoo! I'm pumped! Ready to start on Monday(wed/fri).

Good job on the house cleaning, carpet cleaning; that was your workout today! I laughed when you said spider webs becaue I can relate to that. It's like, all of a sudden they are there and where the heck did they come from (other than the obvious I mean).

Toni, glad you're back to your regular workout schedule and feeling really good. Congrats - your hard work is really coming together!

I say it's time for you to break our the Trisets LB again:D

Natty, missed you today; hope all is well.

Toodles everyone!

Hello ladies :)

Today's workout was a killer with 4DS upper body premix (70min). I love that workout! It's mostly heavy weights/low reps, but there is so much variation & variety; band work, drop-sets, super-sets, push-ups :) (different variations including high & low ends/triceps/wide). I did a lot of them on my toes, which I'm proud of. The flow is very quick, moving fast from one exercise to the next, which gave it an "endurance-type" feel (my HR was up, I was sweating) but with moderate/heavy weights. My muscles felt completely worked to fatigue. I think I may stick with this workout 2X/week.

Busy day today, I'm pooped. We went to toddler time gymnastics in the AM followed by a tot & parent swim at 12pm. My cousins and aunt were able to join us in the swim, which was nice.

OMG, that shooting in Aurora was so devastating. We had a shooting in Toronto a few days ago where someone starting shooting at party. A few people got killed, including 1 child. My heart goes out to the family and friends of the wounded and killed. This world is SO F-up.

Stacie
I'm sorry to hear about your illness. I wish you a speedy recovery.

Heartymax
Cleaning, vacuuming, dusting, is as good as working out you know ;).

Toni
Great job on your workouts and sticking with them :).
Congrats on the lbs lost...or maybe not. Stress will definitely do that to you. I'm sure you still look wonderful, no matter how much you weigh.
I know all too well about cellulite. Pear-shapes get the worst of it unfortunately. I wish all I could do was lose a few lbs and have it disappear, but that ain't so in my case. I've made peace with my butt dimples ;).

Jennifer
Congrats on To The Max :). Hope you have a good weekend :).

Bye bye for now :)

Happy Saturday everyone. It is a cloudy day here in my town. Today was day 2 of week 1 of the hundred push up challenge which I started over again this week. I did 12, 10, 8, 8, and 17. Then I moved on to 60 minutes on the elliptical followed by 3 minutes of plank work. I dropped my donations off at Salvation army and then completed some shopping at Sam's Club. I ordered a Margaritaville from Amazon and I can't wait to get it. My boys have been wanting smoothies lately and we just have a basic blender that is not doing a great job. They are not complaining---but I am so I just decide to give the Margaritaville a try and we can have fun making some non-alcholic daiquari's too which they loved on vacation. Well----I'll take a little rum in mine every now and then.:D. I may spend some time experimenting with some protein shakes and see how that will hold me up for breakfast a couple of days when I go back to work.

Natty--I don't want any part of low end of high end push ups.

Jennifer--I am glad you decided to give the hundred push up method a try. I like the way the program is set up. The structure allowed me to make significant improvements. I was never able to do 100 but I was able to do 35 consecutive and I was able to do 4 sets of 25 (my 100) with a 60 second rest. My problem is I quite doing them and I need to keep at it to maintain the strength gains.

Hello everyone :)

Very busy w/e for me. First my workouts: Sat was Leslie Sansone's 5 really big miles (I did 4 miles with a 12lbs weighted vest, 60min) and today was 4DS Lower Body Circuit (60min). I'm starting to add on a 2nd LB workout/week again.

Saturday evening I attended my cousin-in-law's stagette party at an Italian restaurant. The food was very good overall. I had grilled calamari (shared), pizza bruschetta (shared), grilled rainbow trout in a papillote w/veggies, caramel crunch cake (shared), and a martini ;). My pregnant cousin was there, and so she ordered a few appetizers which was shared amongst a few of us. I felt good, not overly stuffed.

Heartymax
Fantastic job on the push-ups. Low ends/high ends are always killer. I love the way my arms and chest burn with those.
I always wanted a really good blender. Now that I'm making more protein smoothies, I want one even more.

Hope everyone had a great weekend

Jennifer- I saw in another discussion that you ordered great mats. I am thinking about getting some by the end of the year. I workout in the den area on carpet in basement which works great. I have my elliptical in another room and that room still had concrete floor with mat under the machine. I am thinking about doing mats in that room. Which mats did you get?
