PROGRESS NOT PERFECTION: SEPTEMBER "SCHOOL DAYS"

Stacy, I have vision related balance problems so I feel I spend more time trying not to fall over than enjoying the poses, even in a simple warrior. I'm actually quite flexible for someone my size so I have to go deep into the more advanced poses to feel any stretching at all. I've tried different styles and instructors, but I just don't feel it works for me.

Andrea, I hope you are feeling better.

We are off to buy new sneakers for Hubby {among other things} and then meet my parents for a Bday dinner for Hubby. I remembered to set aside some cake to take to them!:D

I am feeling a little better. Maybe seeing the light at the end of the tunnel is helping, not sure.

What is this horizontal conditioning stuff? Maybe I don't need to know...yet :)

Stacy, have you ever tracked your food intake with Free Calorie Counter, Diet & Exercise Journal | MyFitnessPal.com
I started it back up a couple of days ago (after posting my pics, when FnV told me I had to get back to my old self!). I love the phone app. It's kind of a small hassle but it helps A LOT. As in, because of it, I had a nice fresh salad after work last night instead of a frozen pizza. I was tired as $h!t but knew if I just put in a little effort to make a salad it would be so worth it.

Anyhoo, got to get back to work now. I get to do total sculpting or whatever it's called tomorrow, the beginner one with the ball. Sounds easy :)

Peng, your cake sounds good! Enjoy your dinner tonight! I don't know if you guys have ever heard of or tried kundalini yoga, it is one of the things I was doing while Firming (in addition to eating really well overall!) and it was amazing how much it improved my aerobic fitness. It focuses on different breathing techniques and is more about movement and energy than holding poses...and one other cool thing about it, I do almost the entire thing with my eyes closed! So maybe no vision/balance issues? Hmmmm, maybe I'll do a quick yoga tonight when I get home from work. Maybe the hubster will fix dinner while I do that...now that would be awesome.

Stacy, I was just thinking, I know our teams met in like 2003 or 2004 in the Fiesta Bowl I think? If they play again one of these days, we need to go. For reals. And if we are at our goal weights when this happens, we can have beer and nachos. :)

FnV- have you read Dr. Furhman's eat to live book? Reading it always helps get me psyched about eating mostly veggies and fruits. Just wondered what you thought of it if you have, thinking I'll re-read it this week.

Ahhh...my workday is almost over. Sleeping in until 4:45 tomorrow morning will be like a luxury! I want to stay up and watch the Broncos tonight.

OK, first of all, when you talk about watching Cats and Hurricanes, I am thinking Animal Planet and Weather Channel, both topics I have viewed recently!

I think Yoga would be a good class thing for me to do rather than a video. Plus Andrea's Kundalini comments make me want to try it even more, but its probably gonna stay on the back burner (along w/ STS) for a bit longer. Interesting concept to workout with eyes closed.

Furhman- Long time ago I read his Cancer Proof your Child book - I used to read/do all the Vegsource.com stuff. I haven't read his latest but was pleased to see him doing a PBS thing recently.

HC- does sound tough from VF and the users here on checkins where I enjoy lurking but it really sounds like it kicked your butt, Stacy! I bet you will have great results if you stick with it.

Stacy, good luck at inlaws. Andrea, your schedule sounds brutal. Peng, I can't support you in your pound cake but I hope you have fun trying out CF. Its one I like. I modify as needed, too.

I did BG standing + core then BodyBlast TS and did the Ch and Tri chapters. That took about an hour so i'm probably done but would have liked to get a cardio in too.

My plan has been to do 8s
8 svg of plants (or at least 6)
8 hours of sleep (decrease crazy cravings)
8 glasses of water (or at least 3 bottles)
8 workouts a week (30 min each- can be a walk, wt train, whatever)
*not eating after 6 pm*
No wheat/gluten (wheat belly)
Staying with in my WW (old) points -Keeping a log
Brain and Heart healthy supplements

Peng, never thought about the vision-related aspect of yoga, I'd be falling over too!

Andrea, sounds like a game plan! I have read Fuhrman's book as well, in fact, just pulled it out the other day. I've tried posting my eats but if something isnt in a database I hate guessing, so I end up "forgetting" to post certain things. I do better when I just write things down so I can see where I need improvement.

FnV, your "8's" sound great.

My dinner at inlaws, not perfect but progress over what I normally would have eaten there. One bowl of soup, one homemade dinner roll no butter, 1 small choc chip cookie.

My mini daily goals/challenges
--3 bottles of water (this is SO tough for me!)
--cutting back on the starchy carbs
--eating a veggie with either lunch and/or dinner

Would love to get more sleep, but unless I take sleep meds, I dont see that happening with any regularity. I've slept poorly since childhood.

Have a good night. I'm feeling some DOMS from HC settling in already!

Stacy, I've a very light sleeper so the least little thing wakes me up, but I've had good results with taking Melatonin and drinking 'sleepytime' tea. I"m not really a 'tea person' so I don't always do both but the melatonin works well on its own.

Andrea, glad you are feeling better

Faith, I didn't understand the Cats and Hurricanes either.

Earlier this year we watched 'Forks over Knives' and 'Fat Sick and Nearly Dead" which is what convinced Hubby he needed more veggies.

After dinner, we took April for a short walk, which was really nice since its cooled off.

Dad follows football but I'm not sure about College.

I sent you all 'friend requests' but you guys aren't showing up in my friends so I probably did it wrong. Let me know.

I started a photo album of April. That was kinda fun, I've never tried before.

Peng, cute pics! LOL at the pink bow. Does April have grey muzzle? We are friends now. : )

Andrea, I knew it was football but it seriously is NOT my go to and I really did watch a few episodes of My Cat from Hell on AP w/ dd and of course TWC before Isaac.

Stacy, the sleep thing is hard to manifest sometimes but at least I usually sleep well, its just hitting the hay at a reasonable hour.

Peng, didnt get your friend request nor can I see your pics. So I'm either a computer idiot OR I just dont have something set up right on my computer...or both! :)

Stacy, I tried to friend you again and it said it was pending. Check you PM's when you get a chance?? Maybe its in there?

Faith, we adopted April as an adult from the Hum Soc, and the vet pegged her at about 2 ys old then so she's about 10 now. She is indeed greying around the muzzle, poor baby. We don't know her Bday but we celebrate Jan 20th, usually she gets a new toy and extra treats.

Today is our Fun Day. Hubby has Monday's off as his second weekend day, and this is our shopping and running around day. He bought himself an remot controlled airplane {5ft wingspan} for his Bday so I'm sure we'll go to a hobby shop, among other things.

Peng, I got the link to your albums, nice pics! And, I saw your friend request! I had a friend request from one of our other members Deanna, wonder how long that's been there. I hope she doesnt think I was ignoring her :(

Today is going to be a rest day, didnt realize I had to work late and I'm feeling some soreness from HC anyways, mostly in the obliques and the front of my thighs, nothing too terrible though.

Eats doing decent today, still need to get my water in. Dinner is a grilled pork chop and green beans.

Check back later...

(Andrea, who's your NFL team? The Chiefs??)

Peng- got your request! Love your pics! April is soooo sweet!

Stacy- Yeah, gotta follow the Chiefs, but also like the Giants, Packers, and Carolina. Giants because I just like them, Packers cuz Jordy Nelson is a Wildcat, and Carolina cuz I love me some Cam Newton!

I made it through my work week! WOO HOOOOOOO! Up at 4:45 today to do Total Body Sculpt. WOW. The warm up is easily the hardest part of that workout. LOL. May save that for a hangover day. ha ha...it was actually just what I needed TODAY, but may never do that one again.

I did just thoroughly enjoy three SMALL pieces of wood fired oven pizza and two beers with the hubster to celebrate the end of the work week. Will be better tomorrow. :)

I did a 40 min run and got Bi and Back from BB TS chapters. Stacy she does traditional crunches on the ball in that workout. I will do it tomorrow along w/ shoulders and dance class in the eve. I think. Not sure if I can swing dance class but I can't bring myself to abstain.

I'm short of veggies today
spirutein and almond milk x 2
carrots
apple
Pumpkin seeds
salmon
oatmeal w/ almond butter cinnamon and a little bit of agave maxed out my points and filled me up for the eve- I'd like a nice Sleepytime tea tho.
Peng, did you guys have a nice day?
Stacy you are mostly doing the delta shred w/ HC thrown in?
Andrea did you work today? I can't read that far back.
I think it is hard to do a workout after an 8 hour workday, and harder after a 12. Have a good night

FnV...I'm doing DeltaFit and planning on adding in HC once a week. Phase 1 of DF is supposed to be for 4 weeks but I'm feeling ready to move onto Phase 2 where the workouts are still just 30 minutes much more difficult. I'm also doing whatever I feel my body is needing that week, whether it be more cardio, more pure strength, kinda wingin' it in some ways.

Eats for today, better...

B--coffee, almonds
L--tuna with red peppers, chocolate milk
S--crackers...100 cals
D--grilled pork chops, grilled onions, green beans
S--pistachios

Overall, couldve made a better choice in place of the crackers, need to watch my portion sizes of the nuts. So far 36 oz fluids, planning on another 24 oz water bottle before I goto bed tonight.

Going out to lunch with some friends tomorrow, planning on a salad with salmon for lunch. May try out a Phase 2 DF tomorrow. He also has some "extra" workouts that arent part of the main program I may checkout...a bootcamp, some kettlebell workouts, and one called "The Workout From Hell"...thinking I'm not ready for that one yet!

Today was my scheduled rest day but we did so much walking & shopping that my feet hurt, also my shins are sore from yesterdays walk. Nothing like being dragged up a hill by a dog who thinks she's a drafthorse.

I post my daily menu on another forum so here goes.
Sept 10, Mon
breakfast Latte
Cracker Barrel ~ 1/2 meatloaf, 1 ser carrots, 1/2 mashed potatos.
1/4 cup {Hubby"s} coffee
cake with whip cream + iced coffee
homemade lasagna {I add veggies} + {dessert} stawberries
Doritos {not a great choice here!}

Payless Shoes is having a BOGO sale and they are one of the few places that sell my size {10.5-11} so I bought a pair of black loafers {which I really neded} and a pair of running sneakers with a waffle bottom. There's not much to them compared to my other sneakers but they are fun and support my foot well. Google Image Result for http://www.payless.com/images/490x490/125535_4_490x490.jpg Mine are black.

Cute shoes!

FnV...was it you or Susan (or both) who was loosely following the Paleo Diet at one point? Anyhoo, a friend of mine qualified for and will be running the Boston Marathon. She's been following the Paleo Diet for a year now and credits her diet change to her increase in speed. Just was thin to start with being a runner and leaned down even more after going Paleo. Just an interesting story thought I'd pass along.

Andrea...congrats on finishing your long work stretch! I'll be in the same boat this week, or should I say sinking ship, geez.

I started the bread and laundry this morning. Today is Hubby's Bday, but he forgot to take the day off, so he's at work. {I think his work friends take him out to lunch;)}. I've got KCM's Plateau Buster planned for today.

I admit my diet is my weak point. :(

Peng, diet is my weak point too, but you've just gotta never give up and always strive to improve. I definitely have alot of bad diet moments, but I keep plugging away.

This morning I felt really sluggish and the only thing getting my butt out of bed is knowing I was meeting my sister (did I mention skinny sister?) for lunch. Not a single workout sounded appealing. I popped in a DeltaFit workout and popped it out after the first pushup, then I put in KCM's Kickboxing, popped that one out after it seemed like too much effort to do large arm circles during the warmup. I then proceeded to the FIRM Vol 1 and was quickly annoyed by the standing pelvic thrusts. I then decided to do my old standby, the 3 mile program with random hills on the treadmill. I did this at a brisk walk and in the last mile I went up a bit on the speed, the last mile also has the highest incline, up to about 8-9 degrees toward the end. I walked and huffed and puffed for 54 minutes and what started out feeling like a cop out workout ended up being a sweat fest :)

Off to shower and meet sis!

Stacy, When I have workout days like that I call them 'Goldilocks workouts'... This one is to hard, this one is too easy, this one just bugs me. My older sister has always been shorter and thinner than me, but from what I hear from my parents she's gained some weight. I'm trying not to be too happy about her gain. :p.

If I get too restrictive on diet, I freak out and eat everything for a few days until I snap out of it. I figure a happy medium is better in the long run.
