Please tell me about your dogs...

I have two german shepherds & I love them dearly :p

Nikki is my female and she is 7 now. She protects our house like Fort Knox (esp. when BF's daughter is visiting) but is also the sweetest dog in the world for cuddling and loving! She's always been sweet but in the past year, she's sort of gotten to be an old girl looking for love. Yet, she still prances like a little puppy when she plays! Her favorite thing to do is to sleep in BF's daughter
s (11 year old) room with her. They grew up together and Nik really lights up when she walks through the door!

Timber is my male and he is 4. He is huge and stocky and even though we didn't name him Timber for that reason...he knocks things over in his path (Tiiiimmmbberrrrr!!!) b/c he doesn't quite know his size! He protects our house but more so our family member. He isn't as good with strangers or people he doesn't know very well (although our dogs are never in the house with guests) and is more our watchdog.

They work in tandum together to take care of everything in the house. It is sort of neat that they very rarely bark at the same time (only when there is a VERY big issue) and they switch off walking around, etc. They really love each other too and even though she thinks she's a pain in the rear end (b/c he is just so much bigger and bouncier than her), she would die without him. Him..he adores her. If he is in the house and she isn't (we have a back room that they are gated into when necessary), he will sit near the gate with her and hang out. And when we catch them grooming each other or playing (when they think nobody is looking), oh my, it is cute! Oh, and they are bowl-dumpers too! They take their bowls and walk in the other direction from each other, then dump their bowl, then eat - it's like clockwork every night!

...I coudl talk all day about my kiddies!

Gayle - LOVE LOVE LOVE the Birthday pics!! What precious babies.

Timber99 - I have a two-year-old female GSD named Abby. Amazing watchdog, loves the family to pieces and is great with my children. My six-year-old daughter will "dress-up" Abby complete with a tiara, or, play "vet" with her doctor kit, and Abby will just sprawl out and have a complete check-up! It's just the cutest, esp. since the dog & my daughter stand about eye-level with each other.

The only problem is Abby goes completely crazy when she meets up with another dog. I did the whole socialization bit when she was a pup, took basic obedience classes, etc., she just does not like other dogs.

Love hearing about everybody's dogs!

Hi, I have a yellow lab, named Bowser. He's just over a year old and has a love affair going with my 6 month old kitten. The other day after I brought the kitten home from getting declawed and neutered the dog saw the kitten walking along the couch and went over as if to say hi. Then he went and picked up his empty food bowl and brought it over to the kitten as if to say "Here, you can chew on my food bowl if you'd like, I bet it'd make you feel better.". He's a very sweet dog, a little big and clumsy, but very sweet. Another funny thing that he has done is when he had surgery to remove 3 rocks that he had eatin he got neutered at the same time. He had to have a lampshade put on his head. He couldn't get up the stairs very well because the edge of the lampshade kept getting stuck on the stairs. So, he figured out how to go up the stairs backwards! It was soo funny to watch! Really, the list could go on with the funny things that he does, but I won't make this post that long. Have a great day!

Hi Ladies,

I have a 5 year old Boxer that thinks he is a soccer player. The first thing he does when we let him out of his dog pen is look for his ball and he throws it up in the air hits it with his butt. He can do this with a grape also and after he gets tired of it he eats it. My daughter taught him how to pull her on the skateboard and and rollerblades and they go all over the neighborhood. He also know how to put on and take off his sweater.

We have a 2 year 30lb Boston Terrier "Mr. Jingles" My son was going to bed every night with a dog book, and I asked him one night if you could have any dog in that book what would it be. He picked a Boston Terrier. (He also named him :7 ) I LOVE it when my Big 6'5" dh is yelling for the dog. It cracks me up every time :D

Great pictures! The birthday party pictures are hilarious. I didn't realize I had my speakers up so high until "Who Let The Dogs Out" started at full volume (my office got a kick out that!).

If only I had a dog...I might have to start a cat thread.

I have an 11 year old Lab mix named Princess Leah. I got her when she was 3 months old from the humane society so we've been together a long time. The funniest thing about her is when you say "shhh..." , she'll curl her lips like she's going to attack you, but she's really smiling. It's so cute! I just bought her a new sweater 'cause it's been a little chilly at night, and she's been recouperating from surgery where she had some fatty tumors removed.

GAyle your pictures had my crying I was laughing so hard! I think that Chelsea is the one that I lost all control over. What lucky dogs!

Ohmigosh, I accidentally set one of my dogs on fire, too! I can't believe someone else has done this. It was awful (for me. She didn't have a clue, either). Luckily, she was not injured, so it's hysterically funny, now. At the time, though ...

I too have a dog that smiles! He smiles when we come home or after he has his nails clipped (he HATES it), When he smiles he also wiggles his butt and snorts like a pig. It kills people the first time they see it. He's a chesapeak bay retriever mutt (his mom was a little white terrier thing...not very pretty), everyone thinks he's a doberman because he has the same markings around his face (he's all brown). He's very neurotic and thinks he's a lap dog - he's 55lbs, not too big but too big for my lap. He's going to be 9 next year, *sniff* my little baby's growing up so fast ;(

I can't believe I've been reading this thread all day without telling a story about my own little love. Okay, how about this one. Although my little Maltese Ani CAN jump up on the bed if she really wants to (it takes a couple of tries), for the most part, she refuses. Instead, she just stands beside the bed (many, many times) every night snorting and sneezing (she rarely barks) until I reach for her, then she stands perfectly still until I pick her up (with one hand). My son said once, "Mom, I can't believe you let her use you like that! She's got you trained!"

"My" dog is actually the family dog and lives with my parents in sort-of-rural PA (more room for him to run than in my NYC apartment). His name is Alex and he's a seven-year-old Irish wolfhound/bearded collie mix. He's very tall and skinny, like Marmaduke, and weighs in around 95 pounds.

He is truly the world's most domesticated canine. Every instinct about hunting has been bred out of him. Funny story: Alex has a large fenced-in area in which to run, and when Mom lets him out she first makes sure that there are no cottontail rabbits in his area. Over the summer she opened the door to let him out and as he barrelled past her, she saw a bunny in his area, frozen in fear as the dog hurtled at him. Mom knew she couldn't distract the dog and turned away, waiting to her the poor rabbit scream as the dog killed it. She waited, cringing, and....nothing. When she could bear to look, she saw that Alex was sitting down with the rabbit between his front paws, and he was licking it over and over with his tail wagging in glee. ;-)

desertbriez - That's an awesome web site of your samoyeds! There are so many good pictures.

I noticed that your dogs wear booties in some of the pictures. How did they take to those at first? Gunther likes to go running with me, but he has really sensitive feet. I thought some of those might help.

Muggs is a pug/fox terrier mix - imagine the chunky pug body with a longer nose and legs. Very cute even though they chopped his tail so it is just a little stub! Even though he will be 5 on Christmas Eve, he is still very active and not always in a good way. A real sweetie though - of course, I am prejudiced!! He loves to eat and will eat anything he can. One of his latest was knocking the bananas off the counter and eating one whole - peel and all with little chewing. Fortunately all came out ok!

OMG! talk about FUNNY! brie had her's first (of course.. since she's older) and the first time we put them on... she walked around shaking her feet trying to shake them off! too too too funny! when tyler got his... he just got up on the couch and sulked! lol!

they got "used" to them... and would tolerate them... i think cuz they knew fun things were coming (i.e. hiking!) they wore throught them ( with their long toe nails (yes.. bad mommy doesn't like to clip them cuz they hate it!) and i haven't replaced them!

they were a godsend on the rocks and sand though when their pads were still tender and not callosed yet!
