Good morning,

We didn't get to the yard work yesterday, so that is on the list today, along with a lot of other house stuff....lots of laundry to do....my least favorite thing.

Valerie, yes, I would say staining a deck can be counted as a workout. I really like fresh too... I could not find fresh parsley in the store for the life of me....I ended up using mint for these dog biscuits I make...you put in parsley, or mint and they are supposed to be breath fresheners. I should buy a parsley plant. I totally believe dental health is 90 % genetic. I wonder if most insurance plans cover an Epi pen if you were really allergic? Can you wear 14 carat gold? is it only metals with a lot of nickel that bother you?

Diane Sue, I didn't watch/listen to the talk Cathe had, I probably will go over and read it on FB if I remember...they did mention that one of the new ones would be an advanced Tower workout. I agree it is good for young people to see how lucky they are when they go to these places to help. What is patty pan squash? I could never get used to an underwire bra...it's been years since I bought one....mine are all getting worn out, it's probably time to get some new ones.

Caitlin, that workout with the bleach container had to be tough....are you excited about the move? I really like my FT4...the watch part has lasted pretty long...it's the straps of all of the Polar that give me problems, all but the hard one that I originally got with my first HRM about 8 years ago.

Lynda, how was Jacob's Pillow?

Hi to Lori, Judy, & Josie,

A workout, then maybe getting to the yard work...or a bike ride...also invited to my cousins for a swim...

Take care,

Deb, calling deck staining a workout was stretching things a bit. it's not that hard, but a messy yucky job that gets done to some degree every year. it takes several hours. the stain is thin and drips and sprays so everything around needs to be covered, like the siding, windows. so set up and clean up takes longer than the staining itself. weather here is hard on outdoor wood. cleaning it and re-staining helps it last longer. Does John have to pay out of pocket for his epi pen? It occurred to me that if a child were very allergic to something like bee stings or peanuts, the parents would need to have several epi pens around, and that would get expensive quickly. Home, school, the car, etc. I have no idea what the outdates are but I'll bet they need to be replaced regularly. just thinking about how hard and expensive that would be to manage.
if you use parsley in the dog food, yes, buy a plant and keep it outside. parsley is easy to grow. my grocery has all kinds of plant starts outside this time of year. I like cilantro too but usually buy it fresh as it is hard to keep it growing very long without bolting.

well it is the 4th weekend and the noise started in earnest last night. really makes me wonder about the mentality of the people around here. it was extremely loud last night but luckily it was cool and we shut the windows slept with pillows over our heads. I need to get earplugs out for the next 2 nights.
DH is still sleeping in his chair to keep swelling minimum. his family had crummy teeth... their dental care as children wasn't good, but there are underlying structural issues . we have spent a small fortune on dental issues. his sister is going thru almost identical problems, right down to problems with the same teeth.
I like underwire bras best. if I try a cotton bra it won't have the support I'm used to as the wires and then the elastic in the material holds things in place. the bras are pretty sad looking but I would like to figure out if this is really a sensitivity. Deb, I think my rings don't bother me and maybe they are 14 carat. I honestly don't know. earrings were the biggest issue. necklaces made my neck look dirty and I have no occasion to wear jewelry much so I don't anymore. I remove my rings when I sleep.

diane sue you mentioned tajin seasoning yesterday. is it a powder or liquid? I came across both, with more references to it lately. chili salt and lime sounds good to me. any other info?

I did leg therapy exercises, part of LBB, and core 1 yesterday. did 80 knee push ups in sets of 20 mixed with the other work. Toe push ups are much harder but I want to build up to 100 knee ones regularly, and then shift to toe ones gradually. will do more today.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did both Sweat workouts (46:13).

Che Malambo was a lot of fun yesterday. All-male troupe and mostly drums for accompaniment, occasional guitar/singing. First half was very macho with dancers challenging each other. It seemed to be a combination of flamenco, Russian folk, step dancing, a bit of Argentinian tango with those backward swiping legs, and tap. I don't know how they don't end up with sprained ankles with some of their moves. They also have a lasso with a stone on the end of it that they do incredible moves with. A long program and everyone loved it--their dancing was really infectious. So the crowd was clapping, whistling, cheering along with them.

Beautiful holiday weekend. We will be having Kim's mom and dad over for dinner tomorrow--filets, hot German potato salad, and endive/arugula salad with walnuts, apple, orange sections, blue cheese, and a vinaigrette with o.j., orange zest, olive oil. Sundaes for dessert, with strawberries in Grand Marnier.

Enjoy the holiday everyone!

Deb, I buy fresh parsley and cilantro to keep on hand about once every two weeks at the grocery store. I use a lot of parsley and chop it up for dressings. I like cilantro in soups and chilis but for some reason I don't care for it uncooked in salads. Patty Pan squash is a kind of flat round summer squash. A lot of the recipes I have found take out the insides and fill it with something using some of the insides after it is cooked. I made some Mexican taco meat and mixed in the inside and stuffed it the last time she gave me some. I had to look it up because I was not sure the variety and these that she grows are white.

Valerie, there is a Tajin brand seasoning that has different varieties and in powder and liquid. The salad I made is called a Tajin salad . It suggests that you can use mango or pineapple for a change. I am guessing they mean in place of the watermelon. I liked this one and think the changes to other fruits would probably be good. I have made many salads using mandarin oranges added to them. I think I would like to substitute some other crisp veggie or fruit for the jicama. The one I got was kind of woody and I did not care for the flavor.
Here is the recipe:
2 cups diced watermelon
1 cup jicama diced
1 cup cucumber diced
2 medium avocados pitted and diced
zest of two limes
2 Tablespoons lime juice
1 teaspoon ground ancho chili pepper
1/4 teaspoon ground chipotle pepper
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
Place all ingredients in a bowl and stir to combine

The small city we used to live in had a Mexican restaurant that made a lot of fresh food. I loved a fish soup that they made. It had fresh cilantro on top. It was something I looked forward to when I would meet my husband for lunch. It would be nice to find a recipe that was similar.

Linda, the dance sounds really interesting. My husband came home with a video of some beautiful dance that they did in a show he saw in Taiwan. Your Fourth meal sounds really yummy.

Hello to all the wonderful ladies here. I did Party Rockin Step 2, and my upper body. I know I told you about my back issues, and I don't want to repeat it again. Thank God for the portable AC I bought, or else I would not be able to work out here at all. Diane Sue,I seem to remember that you had a beautiful website about your family and your self. May I ask what happened? I enjoyed looking at it so much. Thank you for the recipe. I know I messed up portions of the step workout, and halfway through, I had to put two more risers to make it 8 inches. My heart rate monitor is acting very oddly so I had to order one from Heart Rate Monitors USA. The reason I did that is that, if anything goes wrong, I can return it. I am going to call Frank and tell him that we should buy a barbecue set for our back yard. I will be up there about August 2nd. I want to join Snap Gym, as it has a lot of equipment, and loads of treadmills. I don't mind treadmills if I have good music. My sports doctor told me it was easier to build up speed on one, and it is true. You can set your speed, and it forces you to do that speed. I was really fast 13 years ago, and I was able to race 3 miles in under 20 minutes. I don't know if I told you that I ran the NYC Marathon, and I actually finished. I want to read more of this forum, as I am trying to get to know you all.

Is there any ICE workout that is really good and that I should buy? Thank you.

Caitlin, I took my website down about a year ago. I wasn't updating much on it. I used to have pictures and stuff on my Cathe page till they switched the forums. Sometimes I feel a bit odd about having so much of my stuff on the internet. It has changed so much over time. Even on facebook I have limited people getting access to my family photos and only a couple of fitness pictures which I made for me only. I took all but a couple off of Beach body as well. I just got too many guys wanting to be a buddy or coach. It made me uncomfortable. I am all about what fitness and healthy living can do for us. At one time I had planned on keeping up adding workout routines that I put together and recipes that I came up with on my own. But, as you can see it never happened. So many other people already have that sort of information out there. I am sure working upper body is somewhat of a challenge for you. Party Rockin Step, particularly #1 is a bit more complex on the choreography. I love them though. The Nautilus treadmill that I used to have had settings for marathon training and it would automatically adjust speeds while you were on it.
Edited to add that I do not have all of the ice workouts so I am not sure that I could be real objective. I like the 3 that I have a lot. It would depend on whether you are looking more for cardio or weights. I wish they had a dvd with all of the blizzard blasts on them and all of the muscle meltdowns. I really like the giant sets of the muscle meltdowns. The only way to get all of them is to buy most of the workouts. The upper body does not have a muscle meltdown but does have both of the core/ab workouts. I enjoy Low Impact Sweat a lot. Also there are some nice options on the mixes with Boot camp Circuit.

Good evening!

Yesterday was a fun day. Never was able to workout. We left early for New Bedford and by the time we arrived home was to tired to workout. Today I decided not to to the Live Giant sets. Wanted to do more of a split. After warming up I did the 2nd half of Live Summer 2016 Kick Off. I really like this segment a lot. It is a great little 30 minute total body workout. I followed up with some standing abs and a 10 min SB Hiit workout. Was about 50 minutes when all was done.

Valerie.... Growing up our dental care was pretty much not existent. My poor mom, being a single parent, was always working. She did the best she could given the circumstances. Needless to say at this point, I pretty much have all crowns. Hope your husband is feeling better soon. ...I love wearing jewrly! Even on casual days at work I need to accessorize! I do not feel right unless I do. :)

Judy...hard to believe I am on week 7 already with SB Summer Challenge. I believe it is only 8 weeks. If she does not start with another challenge I may start the Spring one again. Funny Shape Up was my first KCM too.

Deb...I have been meaning to watch Cathe's video. Will try to get to it tonight. I will not be buying the tower or the new DVD's. Between what I have already, Live and SB's streaming I am very content. More than enough variety for me and that is saying something!

Lynda...such beautiful weather! Glad you enjoyed the show. Enjoy your visit with your inlaws. Your meal sounds delicious!

Diane Sue...Diane Sue...love my earrings! Friday I completely forgot to put some one and I hated not wearing any! I stict with 14k or sterling silver. Everything else bothers my ears. I have such a tough time in Victoria Secrets with all the heavily padded bras. I like a little lining so things to not pop when you are cold  but that is it. I do not like feeling I have armor on!

Caitlin...I love you used a bottle of bleach to workout! I would have done the same thing. Hey if it works go for it! I cannot do Party Rocking Step 1 or 2 at all. Two left feet here. I like all the Ice other than To The Matt. Just not what I like to do. Some love it though.

Hi to Josie!

No plans for tomorrow, just relaxing with my husband!

Hi, I was at Frank's for a week, and I did not want my muscles to turn to mush. When I move in with him, I am bringing all my weights, steps, risers and DVD's. I don't know if I told you all that Frank has mysenia gravis, but he is getting much better. I have to call him now, because I want to ask him if he would buy a barbecue set for our back yard. I also have to call the Roman Catholic Church in the area, and find out when Mass and Confession are. I had not done Party Rockin Step for so long that I messed portions of it up. I am not really that excited, but I do know Frank for over 15 years.

Did Flex Train today, the whole deal and core. I like that one a lot. no serious dread factor. I haven't done it in a while so a bit slow to get through. I need to stop and look for the weight I used on everything, mostly a little less than cathe. 8's instead of 10's etc. Lori I always used to wear jewelry, nothing flashy but loved to accessorize. gradually one thing after another caused problems, mostly starting with earrings. I was OK until I had the second holes punched, and it never was good after that. itchy, burning, swelling. I had good quality earrings and coated them with a special coating, but didn't matter. then my wrist and under my rings started turning black, then my neck under a necklace. so I stopped wearing unless I had a blouse to cover the area. now it's my mid back with itching. I did it today..... ordered a 100% cotton bra and a cotton bra liner. It's only on my back, which is not where you would think someone would be most sensitive. very strange ordering. a lot of "100% cotton bras" are only cotton in the cups, the back is nylon and spandex. not going to work!. If this makes it better I may want to be tested so I know what I need to avoid. maybe it will turn out to be just dry skin but I don't think so.

Lynda, that sounds like a great dinner. I love bitter greens like that. I think arugula tastes like sesame. Love it.

diane sue.. I have not liked jicama. there is something about the texture....feels like it sticks to your teeth. and sometimes, woody. I don't buy it anymore. I ordered some tanjin spice on our amazon order today. can't wait to try it.

Caitlin, I am with Lori on the left foot issue..... never could do step at all. I've had problems with the soundtrack on the entire Ice series. the music on my sound system is overwhelmingly loud. I have many other ( many!) cathe workouts and this is the only one with this problem for me. I need to turn off the music and use voice only. even x-train.... which I think was the series before Ice ... is fine, but Ice is not.

Good morning,

I slept in today....up at 5:3-...yahoo... Yesterday I did Live Total Body Giant Sets...this one is another killer by Cathe. A great workout though. 5 stars. Later, we went to my cousins for a bit in the early afternoon.

Valerie, that deck job does sound tedious, even if it is not really hard. I am not sure if Medicare covers epi pens...John will have to find out. Yes, they only have a shelf life of about a year, maybe 18 months. That part is ridiculous. So they shoot off fireworks every weekend? I remember that you said that in the past, and that calling the police does not help. Good job on the push ups!

Lynda, it sounds like Jacob's Pillow was a hit! Nice dinner plan. :).

Diane Sue, I also like cilantro in cooked food, also as a garnish for Mexican dishes, but not in salads. Agree with you on how the internet has changed, I don't blame you for taking down pics and information about family.

Lori, great workout combo! .I feel strange without earrings ... I usually keep hoops in, and only change them when I am going somewhere special. .otherwise anything else I add besides a watch is for dress up only. I listed to the FB live post Cathe did the other day...it really sounds like the new DVD's that come with the new Tower will be very basic...and she is going to do a new advanced one in the upcoming new DVD's she is producing. I hope she does a PHAT workout in that set.

Caitlin, it seems like a lot of people who used to love step have gotten away from it for some reason. Do you still like doing it? It sounds like Frank is a good friend? Yes, definitely get a barbeque grill for the new place you are moving to. They are so good for summer meals. Like others, I like all the ICE workouts, except for To the Mat and the Kickbox one.

Hi to Josie & Judy,

A workout, maybe a bike ride. There is a new trail open, called "Rails to Trails" where they have taken an old railroad route, removed the tracks and created a bike path where the train used to run through. It connects our part of the city through two different suburbs.

Have a great day!

Got some sore spots from Flex train. nothing serious. Deb a lot of the trails we ride are part of Rails to Trails . the trail we rode in northern ID is one. Railroads used to have immense power. put tracks where they wanted, usually on flat areas because it was easier to get up and down for heavily weighted rail cars. often tracks go past water because that's also flatter. trains had right-of-way so roads were built around the existing trail. that gives the bike path a uninterrupted route. it was brilliant to convert to bike paths. If there are hills, they're usually well graded. some trails are actually too flat! we planned to ride early today but it's raining lightly. rain is good to dampen the fireworks risk. the regular trail we ride used to be a partly rail route.

Local tribes sell legal (and illegal) fireworks around here. people buy tons of stuff that is in theory only allowed on reservation land, but of course it gets taken home and exploded in backyards. a lot of cities ban fireworks. we are out in the county and no rules. people aren't supposed to blow them up, but it's widely ignored. with so many breaking the law at once, it doesn't get enforced unless someone gets injured, starts a fire etc. With a 3 day weekend, a lot of racket. last night was less noisy than Saturday, but tonight will be terrible. there are professional displays everywhere. wish it could be limited to those. most of the racket will be over after this weekend. we never go away on this weekend although this year is wet so should be safer than last year.

Caitlin ... I am the only one who had a issues with the sound track on Ice , so maybe its (somewhat) my sound system. I play them with voice only audio. myasthenia gravis can be pretty serious problem. are you involved in his care?

caught a deer in my plants last night eating a lovely cape fuchsia. went outside to snip some basil and there she was, chowing down. we spray with Deer Stopper but when it rains often, it washes off plus, new growth doesn't have any spray on it. I saw a doe with a new fawn tiny with spots..walking in our yard a week ago, and I'm guessing it's her. saw a buck a few days before that.

I like cilantro in many things but DH doesn't. I add it to my serving after I plate them. he will still be on soft food another week but is doing well. he was happy to realize lasagna is soft food!

Hi everyone--

This morning I did live total body giant sets (59 min.). Excellent workout, but I had to modify some of the core work with the sliding disks. Just too hard on my knees.

I never had my ears pierced, much to Kim's chagrin, since jewelry is his favorite gift for me. But I have lots of bracelets, rings, and necklaces, and I always wear something to accessorize.

Diane Sue, I am very leery of the internet, and since I am easily found on google, I don't add to contact information with a Facebook account,

Valerie, Julia Child didn't like cilantro and she said it had to do with something genetic. Some people say it tastes like soap to them, while others love the stuff. Fireworks are not too bad here, but Max hates them, and I have read that the 4th of July is when people lose their dogs because of fireworks causing disorientation. We try to keep a watch on Max, but he seems pretty stable. Flex train is a great workout. I did it every week for quite awhile.

Deb, if Cathe's new workouts look good, I may quit live for awhile and just do dvds when they come out. I feel like I have neglected my ICE workouts--especially all the premixes. There is a bike trail like that over in Pittsfield.

Caitlin, I can see using a big bleach bottle for working out. Why not?? I did the Party Rockin' Step workouts for awhile when they came out and they were fun, but I quickly tire of tifting. Once I know the choreo on step and do it maybe 4 or 5 times, I just get a bit bored.

Lori, my mom did her best raising us by herself too, and there were a few years when going to the dentist was not on the top of her list, so I have a lot of old fillings, and I didn't get braces until my sons did and I could pay for it myself.

Hope everyone is enjoying the holiday! Hi to Judy and Josie!

Today I did all Les Mills Pump Workouts. I started with Les Mills Pump Extreme, 59 minutes 252 calories, I then did Les Mills Pump Hardcore Abs, 15 minutes, 66 calories, and finished with Les Mills Pump Sports Attack for cardio, 29 minutes, HR avg. 127/ max. 161,214 calories. Total time 1 hour 43 minutes, 532 calories.
weights there is very little rest during these tracks and I always am about ready to give up about halfway through but , somehow keep going.
squat track-5:03 minutes, 40# barbell
chest track 5:08 minutes 25# barbell
legs and back 5:03 minutes 40# barbells (this is clean , press, dead rows and some deadlifts
triceps track 4:10 minutes I used dumbbells instead of plates like they did, overhead ext. 15#, kickbacks 10#, triceps push ups between kickbacks
biceps track 4:32 25# barbell ( the highest I have ever used on this track is 30#)
lunge track 5:16 35# barbell has some squats in between the lunges
shoulder track 5:02 20# barbell for over head press, 5's for the mac raise, 8's and 10's for the lateral raises and rows, push ups
Abs 5:02 no weight

Deb, that was sleeping in :) I used to get up at 4:30 and often wonder how I ever did it. Now I wake up about 6 and try my best to go back to sleep if I have nothing that I have to be up for. I like being up early though. No noise. Everything seems so much more peaceful. It will be interesting to see what the new workouts will contain.

Valerie, someone was shooting off fireworks here about 11:30 last night. I think it worried Gertie because I had let her out when I heard them she was at the door barking and whining wanting back in. The deer are fun to watch but, they sure can be destructive.

Lynda, I do not use my information on facebook. They are constantly trying to get people to put more out there and I cannot believe anyone would want their phone number on there. I do not use facebook to log into other sites which is the general thing sites to get you to do. I do not have my name on facebook but many do. When I am using the gliding discs for abs, I feel it in my knees when they do those tuck in and through the leg in a plank position moves. I stick with a spiderman move or just mountain climber moves

Does anyone know if ICE worksheets ever got posted by anyone? usually someone does it but I can't find anything.

I don't put anything on fb. just too weird (to me) to put a lot of info out where anyone can see it.

Valerie, the worksheets are in the downloadable manual for the workouts. I just printed those up and saved them into my documents.

Since I was not with Frank on the Fourth of July, I did some HIIT and lower body. I have to be out of here by August 2nd. An old male friend of mine wanted to see me again so I said okay, and he wants me to download this messenger called kik and it is almost impossible to do it. I am really glad I bought the portable AC, and I would not be able to work out at all without it. I called the Catholic Church in Catskill New York and they have Mass on Saturday at four PM, so they must have confession before it.

I have been cooking up meals ahead and chopping peppers and jalapenos to freeze this weekend. Today I made a beef stew recipe from the Caveman Feast app but used butternut squash in it in place of sweet potato. I need to get some more zucchini to spiralize for some recipes. The Paleo recipes magazine has some salad that uses them and also as noodles with nuts and apples in it and some other dishes. They have one recipe that uses spiralized parsnips for noodles. I have fried spiralized parsnips and used them as a crunchy topper on burgers and dishes.

Valerie, I am glad to hear that you found it. I had to search for it myself the first time. I don't know if it is anywhere besides the Ice purchase page ?? I remember looking on the forums at first. I like that you can use the sheets multiple times so you do not have to print a sheet every time you do a workout.

Catlin, working out this time of year without air would be really hard. I have not heard of kik.

so I tried Ice Bootcamp, then Low impact sweat.. only parts. are the blizzard blasts all the same awful step ? do I need to look at all of them to rule them out? I hate step..... can't do that fancy twirling and dancing stuff. don't own a step and not buying one for something I can't do. I had no idea that was blizzard blast! I am so ticked!. so then I did the muscle meltdown and that was fine but too easy. thought by the third set I'd be worn out, but no. I didn't like the core workout that followed either, too choppy. didn't feel like anything got worked well, just a bunch of fussy moves.
I will take another look but not happy at this point. I know this is late to be complaining but I had no idea the blasts were step... unless there's a variety of different "blasts". I downloaded the Ice worksheets but haven't figured out how to print them yet. I only want the workout itself, no rotations or anything. I want to record the weight I use, and have the order.
and all the local idiots are blowing up everything tonight.

Good morning,

It was so hot & humid yesterday, we did not get the bikes out..we tried to sit on the patio for a while, but that wasn't even pleasant. We did some nice chicken and vegetables on skewers on the grill. There were people out at 12:40 am still shooting off firecrackers last night. Not the immediate neighbors, but close enough that I could hear it with all the windows closed. Good that we have 2 dogs that don't even flinch when that is going on.

Valerie, I agree, it was a great idea to convert those railroad tracks to bike paths. I like the way ours is connecting the city with the suburbs. I just don't "get it" with all the hoopla about shooting off fireworks...how is that fun? I do think watching a professional display can be nice, but I don't go to any of them anymore. I am not sure about the Blizzard Blasts...I don't think I did many. I like the Muscle melt downs a lot...can you use heavier weights to make them tougher? I think the workout sheets are PDF documents...should be printable...most PC's have software to print anything PDF.

Lynda, I felt the same about that workout, and could not do all the core moves...they are tough! For some reason my gliding disks were not working on the puzzle mat flooring. I wonder if it was the humidity. I give the workout 5 stars. I am surprised you never got your ears pierced...it was such a big thing when I was about eleven I believe. Friends were doing it with needles and ice cubes...my Mom said I could get it done if it was by a doctor....so my friend and I went to a plastic surgeon...(the only Dr that would do it) and it cost $5. I had to save up for it. Smart that you do not have a FB account.

Diane Sue, nice workouts....I had one of those, but sold it on Ebay...it was not like the body pump that I saw on TV...I opened a FB account when I did the NG seminar, because that is where they posted all the comments and recipes. Mostly only look at it, when one of my 3 friends posts something, usually I don't use it at all.

Caitlin, I have not heard of Kik either...is it a texting app?

Hi to Josie, Judy & Lori,

A workout, and making the dog's food today...

Take care,
