Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 6/5

Good evening ladies,

Yesterday was a rest day. I am sad to say my running days may be over. My knee was feeling great by the end of the week so I planned to do a quick run over the weekend and within 5 minutes the pain was back. I wanted to cry I was so disappointed. Seems it hurts only when I run then it throbs for several hours after. Needless to say the pain is telling me not to run. I am fine doing other activities so it must be the constant pounding that does me in. Must be an omen to just give the TM to my son. This morning was SB Avd Barre Cardio Fire and at lunch we did Barre Legs. All this Barre and my knee is fine. Go figure.

Deb...some of SB workouts (not many) use 8 or 10lbs. But for the most part I use 5, 4, 3 and 2's. And when I drop to 2's usually I am ready too! Hard to believe how a 3lb weight can fry your arms! I prefer her streaming over her dvd's. I think her streaming workouts are more intense. Bates Motel is a TV series which is exactly that...a prequel to the Phsyco Movie. Bob and I are really enjoying it.

Judy....thanks for sharing Josie's pictures. I agree the total beginner looked harder than a beginner workout. I am going to do it tomorrow morning afterbthe shoulders workout.

Lynda...welcome back. I am sure your trip was beautiful and it sounds like you had a nice time with your son. The captain sounds like a funny man? I think Ayra will be fine and the girl that did the deed will get it in the end from her!

Valerie...thanks for the recipe. Looks really good. I do agree with Deb though that there are alot of ingredients and I like your substitutions. A great ride as always. My husband has never used the sawzall. Home improvements are just not his thing. Thank goodness he has me!! Lol!

Diane Sue...Barre has really changed the shape of my body. I love the toned (but not bulkie) look I am receiving. I am very stocky and love what it has done for me since adding it in a couple years ago.

Caitlin...I do not blame you for getting an A/C. I workout in our basement and it is naturally cool. I have a nice size fan and a dehumidifier for the Summer months. I would not be able to workout in hot weather.

Hi to Josie!

Today's workout was 21 Day Upper Body Extreme 38 minutes, 177 calories. I messed up and did all of the concentration curls on the right so, at the end I went back and did two rounds of the biceps with a break between them on the left. I then did Kelly Coffey's Cardio Pump workout 1 cardio, 30 minutes, 181 calories. I finished off with 21 Day Fix Extreme Yoga, 31 minutes, 103 calories. 99 minutes, 461 calories.
My week is turning into a much busier week than I had imagined. I will have to do just the 21 Day Fix leg workout Thursday if I am going to fit it in. If I don't I will add it somewhere else. Got to leave in a bit to help my husband pick up a car.

Linda, good to see you back. It sounds like things went well on your trip. I am not sure what it is with my legs. Generally I am trying to build them because they tend to be skinny. It seems though that I can see a bit of the "saddlebag area" . This is not a term I like to use there has to be a better one. It is the first place I put on fat . I can still see the muscle in my hamstrings and quadriceps though. I just need to rethink how I am training. I used to always make sure I did a lot of floor work with the leg workouts wearing ankle weights along with the standing leg work. I have let up on doing that with ankle weights since the knee problem. I always feel the ankle weights will put stress on the knee. Particularly with the inner and outer thigh work. I also used to do at least an hour of cardio a day and I do not do that much anymore. I probably need to adjust the diet more. I am consuming less calories than I used to eat though. I like your profile picture :)

Caitlin, I have never had my doctor mention allergy shots. I use a large Honeywell Air purifier and keep allergen filters in the air units. I recently got an allergy mask to wear when I am working outside which helps some. It would be hard to workout during the summer without ac.

Lori, I really used to feel like barre work was not do much for me and I would wear ankle weights for it. Cathe has some pretty good stuff though and I feel like it is working where I need it too. There was one of the live workouts if I remember right that had a little hopping and stuff with the barre work that I kind of liked. I should do more of that. Flexibility is supposed to be important for the knees. Particularly in the hip flexors and the hips. I read recently that the runners stretch is bad for the knees. Funny how often it is done in yoga and workouts. Even worse is grabbing the foot from behind like they do in 21 Day Fix Yoga. It puts a lot of bad pressure on the kneecap.

Deb, it would be fun seeing some video clips of the dogs. As far as barre, it has grown on me since I have learned to tame down my workouts some. One of the reasons I didn't like doing it so much was because it really does not burn much for calories. Yesterday I helped my husband get rid of those files on his Windows 7 computer. Windows 10 popped up trying to force a download. Then I checked mine after reading some info and the files was back in my updates. I deleted again and had to go back to the updates and find recommended updates where the deleted ones were put and hide them. I had not had Windows 10 pop up again though. Hopefully this is the end of it. I read that in July they are possibly going to make a push and charge for Windows 10. I hope they get the bugs out before we are forced to replace our computers and have to have Windows 10.

Valerie, I did notice that when I put in 21 Day Fix today after doing an Ice core workout yesterday that I had to turn the volume down.

Judy, nice workout today :) I sometimes wonder if the internet providers do something to try to encourage us to upgrade our service to a higher level. We just got a mailing trying to get us to get the whole package because with all of the services "they all work together better". Then our streaming starts getting lousy. This happened to us before when we finally upgraded to 100 mbp. It was working and then suddenly it would not work at all for days. Even the internet would drop out.
Thanks so much for sharing Josie's pictures.

Hi Everyone,

Today I did Spinervals 17.0, Aero Base Builder. It was 85 minutes and I burned around 570 calories. I had wanted to get closer to 2 hours in but something came up that I had to deal with so this was all the time I had today.

Deb-I agree with Lori about SB streaming. I do prefer it over her dvd workouts. There are so many to choose from and many are short enough to be added on to other workouts.

Valerie-great ride! You are really getting good mileage in!

Lynda-I'm glad you had a good trip. That area sounds so nice and the puppies sound adorable!

Lori-I'm sorry about your running :( I hope you will be able to run again, but I agree, the pain is telling you not to run. As someone who used to run a lot and had to stop due to injuries, I understand. It's something that you love to do and it's hard to give it up. I was in tears many times over not being able to run, but I feel much better about it now. It's good to have so many other options for working out, like barre, Cathe, cycling. That has helped me with not being able to run the way I want to.

Diane Sue-I agree about internet providers trying to get us to upgrade. Now that you mention it, AT & T has been sending us info on upgrading and adding more services. I think we have the fastest speed they offer for internet but they want us to add TV and phone service too.

Hi to Caitlin!

I will check Facebook and post more photos from Josie before I go to bed.

I am trying to get started with my fitness pal and when I put in the ride yesterday under "exercise", it was 2 hrs 47 minutes, 33 miles and we rode fast so I used 16-20 mph, although we took a few short breaks. bathroom , refill water, a snack. it came to 2100 calories which seems out of line ridiculously high. I was thinking maybe 1200? not sure what to think.

Lori back off and give it a rest. you may not be able to run regularly, or it may be something ....like different shoes? there are millions of words written about posture, foot strike, and shoes, and sometimes it's something as simple as the wrong shoes. some shoes make things worse. I think you need to be bio-mechanically very well "lined up" or a lot of people get overuse problems running because it is the exact same ROM, with impact, over and over. I would not give the treadmill away yet.. maybe you will be able to use it once a week? or walk on it at an uphill grade using hand weights? lots of options there. just back off and maybe look at your foot strike and your shoes and see if there's something causing an specific issue. for sure though...... if it hurts, don't do it. I can still run but not every day. some running shoes ..ones that are "motion control" shoes....I can't even walk in! while others..neutral shoes... are comfortable. You should look at wear patterns on your shoes and maybe consult with a PT or podiatrist before throwing in the towel..... a different pair of shoes or arch supports may be all it takes. or maybe less frequency.

Met a friend ( high school) and her family today, and thought we'd do a bit of a walk, but it ended up being zip. zero. She is my age but quite thin and losing muscle .... as you look at her. I felt like ARNOLD compared to her! she is slim but very slack and flabby. she has never done much exercise and doesn't want to. I think she is afraid of a lot of things, not sure why but I will ask her when we get some private time. this is not new, she has always been like this. but it gets more noticeable as we get older.

Lynda welcome back. glad the ceremony went well. traffic... the bay area has been bad for a long time. miserable.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Live Compound Giant Sets. Another "5" in the ratings book. I am really liking the compound, metabolic, and PHAT workouts a lot. She could do a whole series of these. :).

Valerie, I do the same with recipes...I like them printed on a single sheet of paper, then I can cross off and make any additions or changes. I don't know how to calculate calorie burn for a ride...it is all based on your own HR, do you have a fitbit or any type of HRM you can use for MFP exercise recording?

Lynda, the trip sounds good, funny about the "yacht" and the speedy skipper. LOL. My uncle lived in Sausalito...one of those tiny cottages on a hill facing the ocean.....I was only there once but remember you had to go up a lot of steps to get to his house. Those puppies sound like a handful. :).

Catlin, yes, you had to buy that air conditioner. I would think that Frank would like it as well. The Catskills are beautiful.

Lori, sorry about your knee and running. Like Valerie mentioned, maybe you need new or different running shoes? We have a store here that specializes in running....called "Fleet Feet". They do all kinds of measuring and examining how your foot strikes etc, when you go there for running shoes. They put you on a treadmill and watch how you run etc. I can see how the 2's 3's would still fry your arms. I looked up some of her YouTube videos, and may try an upper body one just to see what it's like. They are short, so no dread factor. It's the lower body barre stuff that I find myself staying away from I still have never tried the Cathe DVD ones. :( Is Bates Motel on a particular station or it is Netflix? I also have a large standing fan and a dehumidifier in my basement workout area...could not live without those!

Diane Sue, that is funny that you did all the concentration curls on one side...your arm must have been fried. How do you like KCM's Cardio Pump? I think if I could get myself to do barre upper and lower, and a couple PHAT or Metabolic workouts a week that is all that would be needed for cardio. Those are killer. I wonder how those Win 10 files got back on your computer? I am suspicious that that "setting" that we use that is supposed to ask you if you want an update is not really doing that. I am anxiously waiting for them to start charging for Windows 10, because as I see it, they will not be forcing it on anyone at that time, since they will want you to pay for it. I will not get it on this computer unless I was assured that all the bugs were out. Actually there is no need for it on an existing computer. Now, when you go to buy a new one, you will have to have it as they all come with it now.

Judy, that was a great ride, and good calorie burn! I am amazed at how long you can do a spinning workout. do you like the Live ones? Thanks again for the pics, it looks like Josie is having a great time.

We are having another agility trial this weekend, tonight we load the truck at the training hall, tomorrow unload at the trial site, set up and I am running Kylee Friday and Saturday, working the trial Sunday, then everything in reverse....FUN!

Take care,

Hi everyone--

This morning I did both ICE Sweat workouts (46:13).

Deb, all of the houses in Sausalito look like they are planted on the side of a mountain. I can't imagine living there, but apparently it's a very expensive piece of real estate and mostly wealthy people live there now. The pups are a lot of fun. Sisters and inquisitive about everything. They love my son's socks and he's been socknapped many times over because he leaves them around. Skipper Ken was a bandy-legged redhead I'd guess in his 60s, but maybe he was younger and the sea had weathered his face to a mass of lines and freckles.

Diane Sue, I wish I had slimmer legs. I do barre occasionally, but really did not notice any big changes when I did barre a lot. I think Lori might use leg weights when she is doing barre, which might account for her excellent results. Yes, that's one of my favorite pictures of Max and we have it in a very nice antique frame. He looks like he is posing.

Judy, that is an incredibly long ride. Your legs must be flab-free.

Valerie, what is your friend afraid of? Anything in particular, or just a free-floating anxiety? That's nice that you still have friends from high school. Wow, that is quite a calorie-burn!

Lori, that's frustrating that you can't run without an aftermath of pain. While you are running it feels okay? Maybe Deb and Valerie are right about getting 'diagnosed' and there is something you can do to alter your experience. I jogged 3-5 miles a day for several years, but I never really enjoyed it and was very happy to switch to aerobics and step videos and then the Firm.

Caitlin, I was in Hudson last fall and thought the main street was really interesting--lots of antique shops--but as soon as you left the 'downtown' area, it felt rundown and kind of dangerous with a lot of sketchy street activity. Just didn't feel safe and reminded me of Baltimore when you leave the touristy renovated harbor area and walk a few blocks away.

Hi to Josie!

Today I wanted a good cardio day. I started with Intensity timesaver step and low hiit, 45 minutes, 334 calories. My heartrate here was only 123 avg/ 152 max. I used to do better than that with this. I then did Ice Low Impact Sweat workout 2 with muscle meltdown back, 44 minutes, 245 calories, avg 111/ max 147. Total time 92 minutes, 579 calories. I also did fitness blender upper stretching routine, 11 minutes since my neck and shoulder has been bothering me a bit and then I did You Tube Sarah Beth Yoga Static Yoga Cool down. This was 15 minutes and loosened up the neck and shoulders some more and I always kind of like the up the wall version of the figure 4 stretch. I did not count the yoga. These were slow paced.
Editing here to add my muscle meltdown weights
Giant set done 3 times 5 exercises 12 reps
1 arm row 25#
pullover 30#
wide one arm row 25#
1 arm pullover 15#
deadlift 25# each hand

I feel I am staying pretty light on the 21 Day Fix Extreme. Usually my max weight is 15# for the heavy since most things she does a heavy and a light drop set. Once in awhile there is a move that I pick up 20#

Judy, that was a great workout anyway. I do hate having a goal though and giving it up because something comes up. Yesterday I kept having to stop and answer text messages . I think the internet providers are really trying to push the full package because people are starting to get tired of the high rates and repetitive lousy television viewing choices. You can have 200 plus channels and find nothing to watch and it feels like such a waste of money. I am sure eventually they will find other ways to get the money out of you. It is my understanding that some stations are planning shows that will cost money to be able to watch. I am not sure how they are going to do that but I had heard something about even our major networks charging for their special shows.

Valerie, that would be difficult with my Fitness Pal and cycling. I know Map My Fitness has cycling on it but I think that you would have to have a Bluetooth device like that silly Polar HR7 that I have. I have an arm band carrier I purchased for my phone that would track but I am not sure how you do the breaks unless you pause it each stop. Then again you have to wear a strap with that. Maybe a Fit Bit device?? I just know that there are apps out there for this but you have to have a device to go with it.

Deb, I don't know how that update got back on my computer but it is really annoying that they can do that without permission. I read that they had changed there popup to set up the update to where if you click the X it is like you are telling it Okay to download. It has a way out but it is very small and unnoticeable. I saw a way to take it completely off the computer so it can never be picked up again but it looked complicated and I have not been in the mood t read it all over. But this time I did go in and click hide in the recommended updates. That is where they went after I deleted them. You hit check for updates and there they are waiting.

Lynda, thinking of a dog posing, I saw exactly that yesterday. We went to pick up a car and this woman was standing on her front porch and her large dog was sitting under the tree posing for her while she was taking pictures. Everytime I get out the camera Gertie wants to lie down and wait for whatever is coming. Hoping for a cookie or something. She is hard to take pictures of. I think the key to getting much of a change in muscle development is some sort of weights. Although my granddaughter has lots of muscle in her legs from cheerleading practice and sports. For awhile she went to classes at a gym that worked with her on her back flips and some of the stuff she was having a hard time with. I checked my bodyfat yesterday with my Omron and it was 16.4 so I guess most of the fat that is there is in my hip area. I will keep working on it ;)

Good evening ladies!

Today was a total SB arm day. This morning was SB Shoulders that I followed up with Bis and Tris. At lunch was her Arms workout followed up with Bis and Tris. Even though I did Bis and Tris in the morning I like this one so no problem doing it with the ladies.

I have really good sneakers so do not think this is the problem. I am going to lay off for a while and see what happens. I am dissapointed to say the least but will manage.

My son's GF parents came over tonight and he helped my husband remove the floor and the dishwasher while his wife and I drank some Sangria. She brought it over so we indulged while the men worked. :p Tomorrow I'll reschedule delivery and hope there are no issues. We invited them over Saturday night for dinner as a thank you. So nice to entertain like a normal couple now!

Judy...thank you so much for sharing Josie's pictures. I am really enjoying them. I agree about so many other options. I have plenty to choose from so all is good. I want to get back into my heavy bag. Since doing so much of SB I miss my heavy bag. Once I start I'll forget about running for the time being. 85 mins is great in my book!

Diane Sue...Lynda is correct I wear 1.5 ankle weights when doing barre, unless it is a hiit or cardio then they are not needed. I love the extra burn I get with them. Never heard that about the runners stretch. I will keep this in mind. The rule in my house is I do not stop my workouts for anything other than my mom calling. My mom died 23 years ago so this is not happening. No one interrupts me! I think I have scared them. Body fat at 16.4! Wow that is amazing.

Deb...SB has a trial you can try without entering your credit card. Her streaming is really cheap. I buy a year subscription and it works out to about $6 and change a month. To me it is worth evey penny. I love Compound Giant Sets. I may do this one in the morning now that I am thinking of it. We are watching Bates Motel from NetFlix but I think it is on FX. Not sure which network though. They just wrapped up Season 4. By the time we get to Season 4 hoping it will be on Netflix.

Lynda...the pain starts a couple of minutes into the run and gets sharper. Then throbs for several hours after. Clearly and indication to stop. So I am playing it smart and will stop. Hoping it does not bother me during any plyo moves in the future. I will be really sad if this happens.

Valerie...does seem like a lot of calories burned, but if you rode hard maybe it is correct? I have met up with some friends from highschool recently that have not been into fitness at all. I feel just like you did when I met them so I competely understand.

Hi to Josie and Caitlin!

Hello to all you wonderful ladies.

Yes I am glad I bought the portable AC. It looks like I may be moving in about two months. I am still glad I bought the portable AC, as I can work out in comfort for the next two months. Today, I did some high impact cardio, and my lower legs with High Reps. I should actually ice my right knee now.

Lori, I used to use 5# ankle weights for the leg conditioning work on Kickmax.I might be able to handle 1 1/2 lb though. I understand wanting to wait awhile for using the treadmill. Could it be incline or something? Now that my knee is feeling better I am a bit afraid of getting on the Tread Climber again. I will eventually but I need to pull out the paperwork and remind myself how to lower the tension and settings a bit. I didn't realize that it was the problem till it started hurting within the first few minutes the last time I got on the Tread Climber. I never noticed it when using it before though. My pain radiates on the back and inside of my knee. It really felt a lot like it felt when I went in for the torn meniscus so it had me worried. I guess I just put up with interruptions. I don't always answer texts or even check when I hear it and I am working out. It was just the time and I couldn't think of who it would be unless a family member needed something. It was my daughter needing to see if I could help her out. When I try to use my Bluetooth HR monitor I put the cell phone in another room so I do not hear it. I got up to 19% body fat when we were at my daughters a year and a half ago waiting to get a house. It was hard to keep my eating like I would like and I didn't exercise as much. I have been down as low as 8.8% (probably too low) which was being super strict on everything. This was before a vacation when my husband came back from out of country. I have been trying to cut down on my love for dark chocolate and nuts.

Caitlin, it sounds like you got in a good workout today. I have read that some people use ice baths after workouts or icy cold water swims. I don't think I would enjoy jumping into really cold water though.

We did a hike today. a hard one. not that long but it's a route not an actual trail. very messy steep, muddy. very nice view at the top, a snowy ridge with a clear view of mt Baker and mt shuksan. no one there either, which was fabulous. I really need to be alone (or almost) to enjoy hiking. not a group activity for me. . ended up being about 4 hours 45 min but we took a long lunch break. all kinds of tiny frogs on the way down, must have been a thousand of them jumping all over the place. My knee is working quite well. not perfect but pretty good compared to last year.

I was under the impression that all the fitness wrist devices work based on arm swing. since there is no arm swing on a bike, I thought they didn't work accurately. I know I got a decent calorie burn on our usual ride, but this number seems to be way high to me. I don';t have experience with MFP yet and so I'm not sure how accurate it will be. WW wasn;t perfect either.

Good morning,

I spent a good part of yesterday making the dog's food and I made some treats for them that are supposed to help with bad breath. They only have 3 ingredients; flour ( I used almond flour), 2 jars of baby food, and chopped parsley/and or mint. The baby food I used was strained peaches. The dogs love them.

Lynda, what are the pup's names? LOL on the sock-napping capers.

Diane Sue, that was one huge cardio day! That is a great body fat %! I think I actually deleted those WIN 10 files....I know there was something about hidden files, but forget now what it was. I am actually afraid to go over to that part of the computer, afraid that if I click on "look for updates" those darn things will come flying back in. It's pretty sad that we have to be afraid of being "taken over" by technology.

Judy, thanks for the pics...she looks like she is having a great time. Does it make you want to do a long ride like that?

Lori that is great that you had help getting the old dishwasher out. Bob must be feeling good that he can be around on a weekend to entertain. Thanks for the info...a lot of FX programs are on Prime so I will check it out. I need something new to watch.

Caitlin, I hope your knee is ok....do you have to ice all the time after workout out?

Valerie, nice hike! I can understand how you would like it better being alone, or at least with just 2 of you. So nice to listen to the sounds of silence, and birds, frogs etc. No talking, no cell phones. Are you just using whatever comes up in MFP when you put your activity in? I don't think that would be anywhere near accurate. The mid level and more expensive FitBits do have a HRM in them...John uses his when he does his stationary bike. I think they use your wrist pulse to measure heart rate.

Today we unload the truck at the arena and set up the rings etc.

Take care,

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did 2 45 minute Spinervals. The first was a higher intensity interval workout and the second was a recovery and technique workout.
Total time was 90 minutes and I burned around 600 calories. My average hr was 126 and max was 162.

Deb-yes, I would love to do a ride like Josie is doing. It looks like a lot of fun and such a good cause.
That's great that you make your dog's food. I should look at doing that for our cats. I agree with Lori, you should try SB's free week of streaming. Her streaming is very inexpensive for all the workouts that you get.

Valerie-That is a long hike! For calories burned, I usually use my Garmin FR70 with heart rate monitor and I think it's pretty accurate. For a typical ride, like a Spinerval or a Cathe ride I usually burn around 400 calories an hour. For the aerobic base builders at a lower intensity, it's around 300 per hour and if it's very high intensity it can go to 500 an hour.

Lori-I'd love to have a heavy bag. I was looking at them a couple of years ago but got sidetracked. Maybe I'll look again and see what I can find.

Diane Sue-That was a great combination of workouts! I have to get back into ICE and the muscle meltdowns again soon.

Lynda-my legs are small but menopause has definitely changed my body. I am the same weight that I was 25 years ago but I have lost muscle and I have fat in places that I didn't before.

Caitlin-Great workout! I hope your knee is ok. I sometimes have to ice my hip and lower back after a hard lower body workout or running.

Hi to Josie, hope you are having a great time on your ride!

Judy

My legs are unfortunately large and never change unless I lose weight. "Leaning out" is a lost concept to me. I lose more in the mid section than the legs, so the proportions stay what they are. of course I don't have a body fat level anywhere near like yours, diane sue. 8.8 is too low. but 18.8 sounds great.
Judy, it's very strange how age influences where fat deposits go to. I have more in the middle than I used to, but I'd have to lose the weight again to see if it changes. I lose a thin layer all over, rather than the fat deposits I'd like to see gone. always working at it, but not changing much. I think that's what makes me so suspicious of the number that popped up for the last ride. If I were getting that kind of calorie burn, I would be losing. This is mostly about me deciding if I can trust the info coming from the mfp site. WW was not a lot better with numbers that seemed unrealistically low, not even a mt biking category. I have a very simple computer on it recording distance and mph.

My the bike computer gives average speed, max speed, mileage, time, but not calorie burn. I'm sure my heart rate is not high. a genetic thing. if my rate gets to 150, I am working very very hard. my rate is always lower than my DH even doing the same work. I seldom go above 150. It makes me wonder if a wrist monitor would calculate right. cousin has a fitbit ... said it didn't record exercise when he was riding his bike. I think he was shooting for the 10,000 steps. I will look this up.
Deb, I need to check into that because that's the one of the main reasons I haven't gotten one... I want credit for my outdoor rides! I doubt my heart rate exceeds 130-135, which for me is comfortable and sustainable for a long time. the amount of sweat isn't indicative with wind chill, and evaporation. my top speed was 23.5 mph
Our hike yesterday was somewhat aerobic. this route is such a mess...it's uphill and steep but muddy, rutted, slippery, logs to crawl over or under. route finding. snow patches, brush. it's a fair amount of work but not at all like walking briskly up a smooth trail. coming down is challenging because of footing and finding your way. my pack weighs 15- 20 lbs and poles.

ETA I had no idea fitness trackers had evolved so much. wow. and a lot of them for $500 and up. a whole lot more than I want or use. cousin's fitbit is pretty simple! I need something fairly simple if I do this. no music, no syncing. bit of research needed here.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did Live Ice Compound Weights (43 min.). I don't know if it was because it was so windy, but the streaming would frequently go to black, then return. Very irritating.

Judy, that's quite a double session of spinning! I feel like a wuss compared to most of you women. Josie's pictures remind me of what great weather I had in California.

Deb, the pups' names are Penny and Libby. They live on Penny Lane, hence the first name. My son just decided off the top of his head on Libby. Penny is smaller and darker than Libby, but she also seems like the more dominant one because she can jump up on things and Libby just looks soulfully at you, begging to be lifted. They were originally only going to get one pup, but decided at the last moment to take a second.

Diane Sue, that is an incredibly low body fat percentage. How did you have it measured? I thought you had to do it in water with someone who has expertise in measuring body fat. I don't know what my body fat percentage is, but I have noticed the way fat distribution has changed over the years--like everyone, I guess, a bit more in the middle. Dark chocolate and nuts are both supposed to be good for you, so you shouldn't feel guilty.

Valerie, sorry, but that hike does not sound appealing to me at all. Slippery and muddy might end in injury for me. I guess if the final reward is a beautiful view and no people, for you that is more than enough. Is there some data entry point where you get "credit" for your rides? Or are you just competing with yourself?

Lori, I incorrectly assumed that the knee pain was a delayed onset phenomenon. Did you just keep running in the hope that it would subside? I hope you don't have future issues with high impact because I know how much you like some of those workouts.

Caitlin, enjoy your AC! Today we will be lucky to get out of the 50s here, but it is also reunion weekend at the college, and as per usual, the weather sucks.

Hi to Josie on your beautiful ride!

Today I only had time to do 21 Day Fix Lower body Extreme, 34 minutes, 213 calories. avg hr 117/max 138. I sometimes wonder how the heart rate monitor does it's calculations. I was sweating and worked harder on the jump moves and 20's for the squats and the rest 15's. I had to get out to my daughter's. I took a protein shake with me made up with Amazing Grass Protein and Greens.
Family will be here later and we have my grandson's final T ball game tonight. I really wanted to add on great glutes or something but I guess I will try to do that on Saturday when I do Dirty Thirty.

Valerie, I have my eye on the Fitbit Blaze just because I have read reviews and the readings seem to be pretty reliable. I don't care about the music and I am not much into worrying about a GPS unless I happen to start going away from the house for my workouts. I want accuracy The Surge sounds pretty good too but costs more than the blaze. Both are rechargeable which is something that I want. I get tired of stocking up on button cell batteries. For me it has to have heart rate avg and high, calories burned, and having something that gave mileage might be a plus for equipment and walks etc.. I have been looking because I would like to move away from the frustration and service of the Polar people. I think Garmin is supposed to have some good devices as well.

Linda, I use an Omron Body Fat analyzer. Using the water method and the dexa scan method is the most accurate. I have several sets of calipers and a digital caliper as well. The Omron seems pretty good and I have heard personal trainers mention using them. My Grandson registered the bodyfat with it that they gave him at the gym for football. I have a scale too but it is totally unreliable. You can get on it and off and come back and it will give you something else. Also it goes up and down on bodyfat % by weight fluctuations that I knew were wrong. I could post a picture when I was real low but I would be embarrassed because of all of the skin hanging out and I avoid posting those pictures. I would say for the most part I am really lean. Just that lingering something that is proportioned differently. I pay more attention to BF than I do the scale.

I need to run. I will come back and finish later. My husband and granddaughter will be back from the movies in a bit ,she drove him and her treat :) and I have my grandson here.
