Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 6/3

Hi Everyone,

Today I did an indoor ride, 85 minutes. It felt really good after taking some time off. I had been feeling burned out and I feel so much better now.
I am going to continue with active rest weeks every month. We will be working on our half bath this weekend. We took the old vanity out and did some prep work for the new one. We'll put that in tomorrow. I'll post a photo when we are done.

Deb-It's great that you get your mammogram results so quickly. I would love that!

Lori-Thanks again for the spreadsheet! I'd like to do one Live workout a week. They are so good, and now there are so many to choose from .

Valerie-The health food store I worked at had a policy of no cell phone use unless you were on a break. I remember someone being interviewed and turning down the job when they found out that they couldn't use their phone on the sales floor. Another person was hired and quit as soon as the boss told them they couldn't use their phone while working at the register.

Diane Sue-I'm sorry you didn't sleep well. I have a lot of nights like that too.
Thanks for the link. That is an interesting article. It's scary what is happening with children and devices. I'm so glad to have grown up in a time before social media and smart phones.

Carolyn-Great job with Body Max 2! I've been meaning to try that one.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday. I did some weeding and garden work.

Carolyn, good job on Body Max 2. I think I only have the original. Not sure when the second came out. Was it part of a series or a Stand Alone?

Diane Sue, I skimmed that article and saved it to my Favorites to read later. Very scary. We have a column once a week by a child psychologist named John Rosmond. He has a lot of good things/advice for parents. He is from the old school and makes a lot of sense. I hope you the car and laptop issues were fixed yesterday.

Valerie, that hike sounds great. With the vast space where you are, I can understand how a picture would not do it justice. As for walking with a phone etc, there are laws in NYC where you can be fined for walking across a street with your head/eyes on a device and not up etc. With digital imaging, I guess it is a lot faster for the radiologist to get the results.

Judy, Can't wait to see the pics! that's great that you got in an outdoor ride. I need to get my bike out! My cousin is doing a week long ride from NYC to Buffalo at the end of the month. It is for cancer, similar to the Aids one that Josie (that used to post here) used to do. She keeps bugging me to go on rides with her to help her prep. Like Lori, I only have LIVE, no On Demand. I don't think I would use it that much. I am not that "techno-savy" and would probably just get frustrated with it.

Lori, I will toss those notes! I need to re-organize my workout area where I keep all the paperwork....it is getting to where I can't find anything. Do you have any agility classes available near you? I think you would love it with Gigi. Thank you again for doing the spreadsheet. Did you do the PDF and also Excel?

Leaving for Erie. Pa today. John decided to come with me, he will come home early from his fishing trip.

Take care,

Good morning ladies,

This morning the plan is to do Cathe’s recent Live Total Body Toning. It looks great.

I can’t make the water fountain this weekend. The tubing I need will not be in until Monday. The shipment was delayed for some reason or another. Very fustrating. Now it will have to wait until next weekend. :(

Judy...great ride yesterday. You have inspired me to take an active rest week. Bellicon has some nice health bounces. I call them those because they are easy, breezy, stretchy, feel good bounces. These with a few Jessica Smith’s walks would be a nice recovery week for me.

Deb...I have never looked into a local agility class. Will do that later today as I am curious if there is one. Always nice reoganizing the workout area. Once my son moved I was able to declutter my workout space and bring somethings back to the basemeI still workout upstairs it just looks cleaner without so much stuff.

Diane Sue...I would love to be able to post pictures here from my Ipad. It is a pain to have to from my laptop. I would post more often if it was easier. I have 2 rebounders...my jumpsport is 44 inchs and so far the cords have been great. I have had this one for 2 years. This is the one I use for barre and bounce. It is larger and I like the extra space and I have it set at a softer bounce and I am barefoot usually. I did adjust the cords once but that is it. They have knots so you can adjust. It is larger so I never step on the bungies. I also have a 39 inch Bellicon. I use this for my higher impact workouts..LEKfit and BBS. Cords have been great here too but the cords I have now are newer. I bought a new set a couple months back only because I wanted to add more color. I bounce every day on this one and it has held up nicely and there was nothing wrong with the older cords. Every now and then I step on the bungies and it is no issue. I always have sneakers on when using the bellicon due to the faster bouncing. I have used the smaller barefoot and hardly step on the bungies. If you remember I did have a 39 inch jumpsport before the Bellicon. It has a larger bib that extends a bit over the bungies. This is made so you can jump on the bungies with no issues. Maybe Carolyn can describe this better. I would imagine these cords will need replacing before I replace the jumpsport cords due to my heavy use. Thinking your friend should not have to worry for a while.

Safe travels Valerie!

Hi to Carolyn!!!!

Deb we used to get the rosemond column too, he makes so much sense. I see things he talks about in tv characters and also when observing families Shopping or in restaurants. I skimmed the article Diane sue and will read it when I have better access. When I was little I would have disliked dragging a phone around but public phones were everywhere and you could use the landline at s friends house if needed. Good luck finding eiyher now ! With lack of public phones we have generated s need for everyone to have their own. Crazy!!
Even plain non smart phones are scarce.

Today I started with Cathe's Intensity w/up, a few minutes of step then low impact hiit, 33 minutes, 5.9 met, heart rate average 130, max 167, 144 calories, 1,843 steps. I then did Home Gym Intervals with kelly Coffey workout #2, 32 minutes, met 5.8, 205 calories, heart rate average 122, max 144, 1,618 steps. I finished with Sarah Beth Yoga YouTube Flexibility Deep stretch hips, 20 minutes, 44 calories, met 2, 74 minutes, 393 calories. We are getting ready to go to my daughter's to pick up their pickup to use.

Judy, it seems that so much of the projects are prep work and clean up. I can't wait to see your results :) I thought the article was very interesting. I guess I see a lot more having 8 grandchildren ranging up to 21 and watching them with all of this stuff. Then the adults and their phones and handling stuff. My daughter's both try to curb device time for the younger ones. The older ones are officially all adults now and all of the constant selfies and texting, instagram, facebook, it is just mind boggling. We will rent a movie and they are glued mainly to their device claiming they are watching. If we play a card game, the cell phone is there on the table so they can keep texting. Then there is the boys mainly obsessed with their games and game systems. My husband commented the last time we had the littler ones here, that the do not like to go for a ride with Nana and Papa like the older ones did when they were that age. They would rather sit here and watch tv or play on the ipad. I have decided to limit ipads at my house too. The older ones would go get gas with Papa and he quite often took them out for ice cream or got them icies. It is definitely a whole new world developing.

Deb, I see a lot more good parenting advice from psychologists. I heard on the news yesterday talk about how mental health issues have gotten worse and the drugs they are giving is not helping. I feel like, of course not, they are trying to do something that would be a temporary fix, rather than work on the problems. I hope you have a good trip today. Enjoy :)

Lori, that is too bad you don't have all of the materials for the fountain this weekend. I know you have to be anxious to get it done and enjoy the results :) That reminds me of our order for the tin ceiling that we put up. It was supposed to be here in a few days and that changed to 3 weeks!! We were not happy. Thanks for all of the info on the bungee cords. It helps me too whenever I am ready to get another rebounder :)

Today I did Build and Burn Cardio Core for 27 minutes and 178 calories burned. Average heart rate was 127 and maximum heart rate was 154. I had an appointment this morning which was fine, but it took me so long to get home. They are doing construction on a section of the expressway and three lanes were closed which created a giant traffic jam. It took me over an hour to travel 8 miles!

Deb, Body Max 2 is not a part of a series. It is from 2006.

Lori, that’s too bad that you can’t finish your fountain this weekend. How disappointing.

Diane Sue, I don’t have any problems with the cords on my JumpSport and I don’t step on the mat. My jumps are not very high but the 39” area works fine for me. I do check the bungees periodically to make sure they are all still in place and I haven’t had any problems there either. Awesome workout today!

Judy, great job with that indoor ride. You have inspired me to be more mindful of my rest days too. The active rest week is very helpful in giving my body and mind a “reset”.

Valerie, have a safe trip home.

Carolyn, that was a long time for 8 miles. We drove through construction back up on the way to my daughter's today, but not near that long of a wait. It just moves to one lane on the interstate and you have on ramps which really jams it up. When I came home I went side roads. That didn't help so much because the area where that restaurant shooting took place was blocked off to one lane for some reason. Thanks for the information on the Jump Sport.

Valerie, I haven't seen a pay phone around in years. I used them quite a bit before the advent of cell phones. We had a couple of cars that tended to break down when my children were little and I remember having to walk to a pay phone to get help. That is one of the nice things about cell phones. My husbands was low when he was calling and the Range Rover was broke down. I used to have chargers in both vehicles. I don't know what happened to the second one. After working 10 hours his phone gets low by the time he heads home.

While I was at my daughter's house, my granddaughter gave me back my Zumba Exhilerate workouts (I never really liked them that much), Supreme 90, and Tracey Anderson Teen Meta. I really liked Supreme 90. I haven't had these in 5 years :) That Tracey Anderson set actually has some dance type work with some teens and music!! Not the typical Tracey Anderson just doing her thing and not saying much of anything. There was a loop band workout on it too. It might be interesting to check these out again. Maybe not Zumba. I was going to sell it and then she borrowed it and was doing it with her mother and I told them to keep it. But, now I have it back.
